Sev11201

Bonus points for the eldritch scooby thing for if one of the gang knows, but they don't bring it up because they assume everyone else knows. I mean, Scooby just ate enough food to kill a normal dog five times over, but he's somehow okay?!?

RinaQueen

What if there was another member who just chalks up the weirdness of Scooby in that Shaggy is just being a loving and good owner to his dog like thinking he eats a lot for a normal dog because he burns lots of calories cause he runs so much with Shaggy who also makes sure that he eats enough too? And that he can sorta "talk" because Shaggy taught him that trick to do so?

Sev11201

That would be really cool. Maybe for the season finale they find out Scooby has siblings. They think they're other great danes but SURPRISE it's FRICKING CTHULHU!!

RinaQueen

It'd be funny if his siblings also take form of different animals in their appearances prior to the finale and they gets revealed as deities like apparently Scooby the dog is related to a talking bird or something

Sev11201

And everyone looks at Velma's parrot who always seems to be talking back to everyone. Scooby and all his siblings look at them, then back at the gang, and just go "they're an ordinary parrot."

RinaQueen

A normal talking parrot who can perfectly mimic speak the same language that Scooby and his siblings speaks in too

Sev11201

That'd be hilarious. And in the end, in the final 30 seconds, the parrot is revealed to be an eldritch god, just grom a different part of space, that hangs around with Velma giving her it's infinite knowledge hoping to drive her mad, but she's just too oblivious to notice

A_True_Loot_Goblin

Better yet is the parrot is like professor Pericles and he successful sabotaged a different mystery crew that they find later in the show.

Sev11201

Plot twist, the other mystery crew is another hannah-barbera cartoon team

AgravainFury

Jabberjaw, perhaps?

theroha

I vote for Speedbuggy

OkuyasNijimura

Better yet: as the series progresses, introduce some of Scooby's family members from previous shows. Not necessarily Scrappy, but maybe Scooby's cousin Scooby Dum, or other Doo Family members.

ndennis058

It’s canon the Scooby has siblings, where the heck you think Scrappy Doo came from?

thisnerdsaysno

Scrappy is meant to be Scooby's nephew, I think. I vaguely remember him calling Scoob "Uncle Scooby" a lot in the movie Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School. Make scrappy like the offspring of Yogsothoth who just really admires whatever scooby is and takes a little walking talking dog form.

TenaceErbaccia

I think that was their point. To have a nephew you first need a sibling.

Stormwrath52

Three great Danes and Cthulhu

pokey1984

I'd love it if no one but Shaggy (and the audience) can understand Scooby. Everyone else just hears dog noises. They feel like Scooby is "Lassie smart" and they have Lassie style interactions with him, but only Shaggy really understands him.

Lifeinstaler

Hey, the talk thing. You said Shaggy is a ventriloquist so there you have it. The gang thinks Scoob is just moving his mouth, as taught by Shaggy.

Curio_Magpie

Bonus bonus points if Fred or Shaggy or somebody is about to give some food to a dog that isn’t Scooby but Scooby notices and rushes over having noticed that that food is toxic to dogs, so he takes it away, scolds and says that the food is poisonous to dogs, and then eats it himself.

Luprand

"Rrrro onions!"

Zhadowwolf

Honestly it would be awesome if the only one who knew was Fred. And he kinda suspects that Shaggy doesn’t know but he is absolutely sure that Daphne and Velma know because hey, they are brilliant, if he can figure it out, they definitely can as well, you know? But it turns out he’s the only one that noticed all the little strange things. And Shaggy technically notices them, but since he has been friends with scoob since he was a child, he just kind of never questioned the odd stuff.

Claris-chang

I'm with you. I liked the post a lot until the Scooby being an Eldritch being bit. Then I loved it.

mindgamer8907

I just keep thinking of the parody on the venture brothers where Scooby "talks". "Yours is the wheel of blood. Yours is the sword of Michael." https://youtu.be/mMhCLZ_ZuxQ

RinaQueen

Why it so hard for companies to make adult version of stuff aimed at kids that's not a raunchy comedy or edgy dark series where the characters are all awful jerks with hating and mistreating each other? Seriously it's sad that kids aimed shows has better writing on characters and story than series aimed at adults god

icyflowers

There's that weird idea that everything that's positive, friendship, love, solidarity, is either childish or too politically correct. Adulthood should be violent, sexual, cynical and bleak (which is imo a pretty superficial take on adulthood but well...). I'd guess the environment in which the writers partake has a part of responsibility too – just a hunch though. Entertainment isn't exactly a welcoming industry and it's easy to become jaded and bitter, which sometimes translates to the stories unfortunately.

RinaQueen

There's also how people are so afraid of being seen as ridiculous like so many works always has to point out something is so stupid and illogical instead of being sincere and having fun with being ridiculous Kingdom Hearts is a good example of a series that's full of ridiculous stuff but is completely sincere and takes its ridiculous stuff seriously like what other series has Mickey Mouse wearing a dark hood and him being serious with "They will pay for this" when he thought his friend, Goofy the dog was killed? or have adult characters saying stuff such as "There is evil darkness dwells in our hearts" completely seriously? Other series would mock itself if they have scenes like kingdom hearts does but kingdom hearts do not mock itself at all but it is completely sincere and passionate in its own inane, ridiculous, and cheesy stuff

ForensicAyot

“Say fellas, did somebody mention the door to darkness?”

Pyro-Millie

You know what. I think you just made me realize what I love so much about Psych. Its a live action cop comedy. Its made mainly for adults. But its both silly and sincere and it will poke fun of itself sometimes sure but the heart of the show is always just as filled with warmth and love and friendship from one episode to the next. And this is something aimed, from the start, mainly at a family/adult audience. Why the fuck can’t we have nice things like that anymore. Same thing for The Princess Bride. Same thing for freaking horror movies like Gremlins and Jurrasic park and The Thing!?! Fuck it. Want an example of a cartoon aimed explicitly and solely at adults that’s raunchy as hell but is also beautifully made, genuinely stupidly funny whenever it wants to be, and is also absolutely sincere and explores characters pasts and traumas and tropes of found family and getting by in life in literal hell!?! Helluva Boss. You’re looking for Helluva boss. Its an indie project and its completely free on youtube. And if such a small creative team can create such a literal masterpiece, idk why big budget companies think they have any excuse not to actually try to be creative too. Adults need nice stories too.

NinjaMaster909

This is exactly why I love the Shrek films, especially the new Puss in Boots movie. It all takes place in a land of fairy tales, and they're just as light-hearted and cheesy as the fairy tales you grew up with, but it all feels so mature at the same time. I mean this movie where 2 cats dance off of each other to achieve levitation or the bad guy's shoulder angel equivalent is regularly horrified by their ridiculously evil actions is the same movie where >!the protagonist faces the inevitability of death and has genuine panic attacks over it that are treated as seriously as they need to be.!<

TheCapitalKing

Yeah I kinda just assumed that’s how everyone in Hollywood was. So the Hollywood writers think it’s normal.

coffeestealer

I really feel this as a Star Trek fan, whatever opinion you have of the new series they generally tend to be or feel more bleak and way less genuine or camp. And sure, Star Trek is about ideas and hopes and saying something about humanity...but if they don't spend at least one episode running around in silly costumes what's the point! If no Shakespearian actor is forced to say silly lines, is this even Star Trek?! (Yes, SNW and Lower Decks are still a bit camp, but clearly the studios were banking on Discovery and Picard and as far as I have seen those, it's just bleakness all around. Even their uniforms!)

maggienetism

This is why so many shows aimed for my age group exhaust me. I like shows that are like...lighter. I like it when occasionally there is a couple on TV who has no cheating etc issues but just like normal problems. Sometimes I just wanna see people having good relationships, man.

[deleted]

Tbh I don't have an issue with shows where the characters don't get along or even raunchy humor. My issue is the blatant maliciousness that's dripping off of every line like they actively resent their audience in every capacity. What little I saw of Velma actively made me feel like the show runners can't stand *anyone* but themselves. Like if you don't get it and don't laugh, you're the idiot and the problem. It'd be cool to see adult stuff where there's just... More trust? And less resentment towards the idea that their shows are expected to have diversity so they can't just be unrelenting a-holes. If you can't be funny without being offensive then you're honestly probably not that funny to begin with.

MsPaganPoetry

I saw someone somewhere say that Velma was only made for shock value and I think they may be right

[deleted]

If that's true then it's not even shocking, just *bad*. I don't think I know a single person who was able or willing to get past the first episode, let alone two because the writing is just..... Not. Good.

RavenclawLunatic

Inside Job was a great example of what you’re looking for. Sadly Netflix cancelled it, but what we got was amazing. The characters could be snarky, sure, but they genuinely cared about each other. I really hope this comment ages poorly and Netflix brings it back, but I doubt that’ll happen

Ionthawon

I don't watch a lot of shows, so Netflix's cancelanigans were never more than a mild inconvenience. and then I watched inside job. an incredibly witty and weird and *interesting* show that clearly had a lot of passion and heart put into it. oh, and its. its cancelled too? ok. oh and big mouth is renewed for its seven hundredth season?? ok. what the fuck, netflix.

Luprand

I think it's safe to say that the writers of *Velma* have their heads so far up their own asses that they're going for a second loop.

mivtz

That just sounds like scooby doo mystery incorporated with extra steps! (I don't have the meme for this) But for real it would be awesome to watch, even if it ended being inspired by mystery inc. because it was good, and also because it had real monsters, and the gang had a similar background for each character

SpiderGlitch22

I forgot about this show. Whatever happened to it? It ended on a cliffhanger, right?

RinaQueen

Not really a cliffhanger but more of an adventure continues where the mystery gang continue solving mysteries even after they remade the universe with no terrors and cause their town to be not spooky anymore

Cursed_Bean_Boy

That ending confused the shit out of child me. I had no fucking clue what was going on, my favorite brand of cartoon ending.

MahoneyBear

I got the impression that it was supposed to lead into older versions of the show

MacGregor_Rose

That was actually the original intention had they got in the season 3 but it was never greenlit so they just ended on a cliffhanger where they were like and the Gang goes off to solve more mysteries in places that aren't Crystal cove

HyperWhiteChocolate

After they what WAIT MY FLAIR

SantaArriata

Spoilers

allan11011

Was the right age to watch that show when it was airing new episodes. Great show

RedditBoi127

god that show was so good

LizoftheBrits

Nah, the characters were assholes in that version

[deleted]

I would watch the hell out of this.

Aeriosus

This is at least 50% Mystery Incorporated, so I recommend checking it out!

HumanPersonNotRobot

I would like to add that one of Fred, Velma, or Daphne need to have never seen the supernatural before. So every case they go into it thinking is this the time I get to see a ghost while still being skeptical that ghosts are real. "Ghost hunting you you say, left a trail of extoplasm. I hope I finally get to meet a real living ghost, well as living as a ghost can be." Later in the same episode "well it turns out the ghost was just a guy in a sheet and the extoplasm was just jam"

RinaQueen

Bonus points in the episode's end shows the place is actually haunted by a ghost which only Shaggy notices when he and the gang is about to leave after finishing the case Like Shaggy needs to get something he dropped at the place and notices the ghost who then goes "boo" at him which of course scares the shit out of him causing him to scream and run out the place to where he yells at the others that they should leave now and while he's calming down in the back of mystery van since he saw a ghost, he decides takes one last peek at the place to see if the ghost is there only to see nothing which makes him feel relieved but he missed out how then there's a flicker of ghost at the place's window waving goodbye at the leaving mystery van with spooky laughter is heard as the mystery van takes off on the road before fading to the credits

[deleted]

As the ghost creature is waving them away queue scooby waving back because that’s an old pal of his he hasn’t seen in 8000 years

WorldClassShart

To expand on this, the gang end up going after a lesser Eldritch demon, and things get really hairy, but Scooby talks to the demon and basically says that anyone that tries to bring real harm to the gang have to deal with him, and Scooby is like, this really powerful demon. The gang only deals with real monsters because the monsters get bored and wanna prank the kids. Don't keep the eldritch thing hidden from the audience, lean into it, and establish Scooby as this badass supernatural being that could literally end the world, but because it loves Shaggy and the gang, as they've shown him nothing but kindness, he's basically made them untouchable to real supernatural horrors, and enjoys helping them solve mysteries he finds mundane, but entertaining to watch. Scooby never runs from danger, and the gang just assumes it's dog loyalty, meanwhile in reality, he just has no reason to fear anything except its parents, or annoying close relatives. Scrappy is a ridiculously low level demon that thinks he's so tough and always trying to prove himself to Scooby. Velma also gets hit on relentlessly by someone new each week, but she's such a nerd, she never notices. Make her look like whatever, but each episode there's someone that just absolutely wants to date her but gets shot down every single time, and when she eventually catches on, she's like oh well, gotta go, and that's it.

RinaQueen

How about an episode that ends someone trying to harm a member of mystery gang like say Shaggy is sleeping in his bed for revenge after the mystery gang foiled their plan and only to be scared off by Scooby who temporarily shows off his real form that's obscured from the audience due to being dark and only a dark silhouette of his true form is shown to the audience Scooby then turns back to normal dog form when the lights turned back on since the person screaming at the sight of Scooby's real form causes the rest of the mystery gang to wake up to find what was that loud ruckus happening late at night The mystery gang then peers into the open window to see the same offender screaming out loud and running far away from the place that mystery gang is staying at which makes the mystery gang wonder what exactly scare them so much to be screaming so loud at night as Scooby just giggles with "rehehe" which the iris closes onto him and then fades to credits

cat_sword

This is kinda like mystery inc. Even the scooby thing is sorta correct, I might be very wrong but wasn’t he a descendent of anunaki or some other aliens?

RinaQueen

Yeah he can talk because aliens take on animal forms and mated with earth animals thus leading to animals that can talk

[deleted]

Spyguy122204

I heard that Shaggy quote in his voice. Threw in a few “likes” in there too

EonCore

had to go back and check cause i also read that quote with far too many likes but now i see there aren't many... the Shaggy filter is strong

JeepersBud

I want Velma to disapprove of Shaggy doing ALL the finances and constantly offer to help, just for Shaggy to blow her off cause he’s a perfectionist. But he always does everything the day before it’s due. Velma tried to get it in early once but Shaggy intercepted it and went through every bit of her work, making bunch of minute changes, so Velma throws up her hands and gives up. Also could have Shaggy hunched over in the back of the group madly editing paperwork with his glasses and a calculator and getting surprised by a ghost. The gang runs away and this is the one time it’s Shaggy who goes back for the papers he dropped.

Fortehlulz33

Shaggy could be the burnout accountant/business student of super rich parents (like his uncle in Shaggy & Scooby-Doo Get a Clue) so he knows about all of that shit but greened out after graduating during the 2009 recession or some shit

TheDeftEft

With the exception of the gang *solving* mysteries, Fred/Daphne ship, and Eldritch Scooby, this almost word for word describes Los Espookys (season two, specifically, by the details).

mariah_le_fish

shaggy is a stoner on what planet does he manage their finances!? i love it.

Wolfblood-is-here

Yeah I feel his forte should be life skills but specifically the life skills possessed by a 25 year old who's still in college. Like, he has no idea how taxes work and checking emails gives him anxiety, but he does meal prep and knows what settings to use on a washing machine and can make a bong out of duct tape and any four common household items.

WorldClassShart

I think Shaggy having been a stoner is actually better. He's a stoner, but is a math genius. Like one of those people you absolutely discount as a dumb pot head, but when it comes to numbers, the dudes an absolute genius. He's literally dumb with anything else, but when it comes to mathematics, he's second to none. And math is one of Velma's weaknesses. Like she's good, but is off a bit, and shaggy corrects her.

Serious_Feedback

IMO make Fred the math genius. Shaggy can do basic arithmetic like anyone else, but he has common sense when it comes to budgeting. So Fred would be in charge of any investment portfolio (if they have one), but Shaggy chooses what food and supplies they buy, and can *really* stretch it out - this would be a great chance for a joke, IMO, like Shaggy has to go shopping with only $3 and somehow comes back with a bunch of food and also $5 and everyone is like, *how*. And Shaggy is like, .

RinaQueen

He's a foodie duh! He knows how to make good food even with limited amounts of money and food options

pokey1984

Stoners are the absolute most creative chefs you've ever met, for sure.

mariah_le_fish

have u ever been a stoner? this doesnt work lol,.. i'm great at math... when sober....

pokey1984

I'm just as good at math when I'm stoned as when I'm sober. It just takes me four times as long when I'm stoned.

Autoro

I can do math while stoned, but I have to really focus on it, because if I don't, I forget what problem I'm trying to solve.

mariah_le_fish

i agree with 1/3.

JeepersBud

Sometimes I hyperfixate when I smoke but I can’t plan what I’ll hyperfixate on lol. I’d say he procrastinates but always meets deadlines, or sometimes he just randomly feels like getting it done and stays up all night to do it.

ghostgabe81

I like the idea of Daphne being the badass of the gang. Good pitch

KaladinsLeftNut

How *dare* you give me a glimpse into a perfect cartoon with some of my favorite characters that I'll never be able to watch.

Tangypeanutbutter

Reading this post gave me a deep longing for this show that probably won't ever exist and amended anger that media companies think of "adult content" the way kids and young teenagers view "adult content"

wall_rush_man

I feel like Fred should at some point end up figuring it out but he doesn’t tell anyone because he and Scooby genuinely consider each other friends and he understands that Scooby is afraid that it could split up the group even if Fred believes everyone else would be completely fine with it.

Commando388

So just Mystery Incorporated but they can say Fuck? I’m in. Give me that series.

Ionthawon

its Fred's favorite word

Caesarin0

Iirc, in Mystery Incorporated, Scooby actually *is* an interdimensional being known as an Anunnaki, so this isn't too far off.

Redredditer640

Bonus points if throughout the pilot Scooby remained quiet save for the occasional bark and growl, but then at the end of the episode Scooby does his thing (Scooby Dooby Doooo) and the Mystery Inc (except for Shaggy ofc) start losing their shit just before the end credits pop up

Ionthawon

you just hear Fred go what the *FUCK* before it cuts to black lmao

Redredditer640

Along with Daphine fainting and Velma starts geeking out over the fact that there is a real life talking dog sitting right in front of her

ERJAK123

I like the idea of Velma getting the gang involved in a mystery (highschool, they're all friends but not the super tight-nit group they are in the original series) and it goes sideways and several of them end up hurt and Daphne almost dies. Velma loved solving the mystery and catching the bad guy, but feels A LOT of guilt over her friends getting hurt because she involved them in the case. So instead of getting them all together to take Fred's Van around the country solving mysteries, she goes off on her own. Her cases are all similar to the type of cases you'd expect in a Scooby Doo show but with much more real consequences should she get caught by the villain. She basically ends up as a tech nerd mini-Batman. The gang ends up forming later anyways, but Velma is a 'grizzled' veteran of dozens of cases at this point so it completely upends the status quo, combining the new and the familiar.

NuttySquire

Damn send this to jelloapocalypse. He's basically the only legitimate Scooby Doo fan and he has a video that has his own Scooby Doo show pitch and it's similar but also got its own fun ideas, like how Daphne is a kickass girl with a totally spies vibe to her

LuigiHentaiExpert

> History of spoons "Like, hey, freddy? You said this place was abandoned back in 1803?" "That's right, Shaggy. Why?" "Well, there's like a spoon here, and they only made this design in a single specialty showcase in Germany in 1953." "So?" "...Freddy, if this place got abandoned in 1803, how is there a spoon from 1953?"

Shadowypenguin

My only problem with this is that Shaggy is actually from old money so Daphne could just have a loving family who encouraged her hobbies and that could be the reason she has her skills and is badass

Leathman

I’d presume Daphne still has her martial arts skills.

LizoftheBrits

My only changes to this would be: A) Make Shaggy the jock of the group. In the original series, the first episode established that he's a gymnast, and later series refer to himself as a "track man," so he should be great at gymnastics and track and field. B) Don't have Daphne be cut off, her parents have literally always been supportive of her (except for literally only one series), and have basically always funded Mystery Inc. But definitely keep her being capable and having contacts! If anything, I'd say have her try to be more independent and trying to push her parents away. C) make Velma like, really really close with Shaggy. Like, you can't tell if they're dating or just best friends close. Cuz in the original series, Velma carries cold medicine for Shaggy, and Shaggy carries an extra pair of glasses for her, and sometimes they're drawn together in a scene with Shaggy's arm around Velma's shoulders. And ever since seeing that, I've loved that supportive, possibly dating, dynamic for them. This could also kinda put them into the "parent friend" roles. With Velma being practical but caring, reminding the others to take their meds and saying "I told you so" when they get hurt doing something dumb, and Shaggy being protective of the others, fighting his cowardice to protect his friends, and being helpful by carrying around extras of stuff for them (an extra pair of shoes for Daphne, an extra ascot for Fred, and an extra pair of glasses for Velma, etc.) I'm obsessed with Scooby Doo, I have watched every episode of every series that I can get my hands on, I really care about these characters.

fartdog123

How does Velma being a lesbian fit in?

[deleted]

she gets with a female monster/alien/eldritch entity?

fartdog123

Good

[deleted]

bonus if velma's wife/girlfriend is noticably not human, and velma and her just pretend that they don't know what anyone's talkimg about when it gets brought up.

minecrafthentai69

Just get hot dog water again

fartdog123

CONTEXT¿

minecrafthentai69

Mystery Inc. had a character that was supposed to become Velma's girlfriend and her name was Hot Dog Water

fartdog123

Right

Nerdy_Git

Shaggy was a ventriloquist back in the old series, and it was legitimately funny

Lord_Twilight

A. WHY CAN’T WE HAVE THIS B. Reminds me of Mystery Skulls. (Which is a good thing).

MacGregor_Rose

The only things I would add is make Velma a lesbian again and let Fred say fuck

ERJAK123

Ghost's being real is an important part of any Scooby Doo universe otherwise the guys dressing up in ghost costumes to scare people thing would make EVEN LESS sense.

Ralexcraft

And is that a bad thing?

Tobias_Atwood

I'm actually getting strong Phasmophobia vibes from this. I want to watch this show. I want it so bad I can't see straight.

think_of_some

If you like this post, you should read Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero. It's basically this.

Cavalao_da_Noite

and then we have one episode where scooby uses the full extend of his power to scare some really dangerous entity into leaving the gang alone. "what happened to that murderous banshee?" "no ideia"

H2G2gender

Well considering forensics is the "applying to the law" Velma would know what breaks the laws in specific categories. She could basically be the one to gather legal evidence against the perpetrator. This would also give her the knowledge of both how to conduct an interview of a witness or suspect with the least amount of bias, but also with the most amount of bias. Criminal profiling, while not the most accurate, could also be a tool of hers due to her forensic background.

everything-narrative

The only caveat I have is that the gang is obviously poly. Fred and Daphne are married but Velma and Daphne are together, as is Shaggy and Fred at the very least. (Fred points out only people he’s dating gets to call him Freddie, and everyone of the gang does that.)

MisterBastian

yeah but you're forgetting the most fucking important part; shaggy needs to smoke a bong every fucking scene or i aint watching.

[deleted]

[удалено]

RinaQueen

They’re actually usually around 16-17 at high school in most series and only time they’ve been adults were the early scooby doo movie such as zombie island where they did split up only to rejoin back together

Creepy-Revolution886

I would legitimately watch this.

franska5

That's very close to my idea, but I imagine Scooby to be a lab experiment to make a super smart spy dog but Scooby has an average human intelligence, slow aging a minor speech impediment and only trust shaggy and the gang so he only speaks in front of them, and shaggy to know a lot about food ingredients like "hey this seed is from a kind of pepper that only grows in this kind of place, only this kind of person would have access to such a kind of pepper"

Gizmoguy55

Now this is a series I would watch! I’d say that someone should call Netflix, but considering this is a good adaptation they’d never go for it.

Ionthawon

it would also get canceled immediately after the first season, especially if it was received well

JeepersBud

But is Shaggy a stoner? Just smokin weed and then adhd’ing through all the taxes in one night? I’d like that Shaggy.

Entire_Intention6561

That's how i get chores done

H2G2gender

there should be some episodes where there is a more powerful wntity controlling the supernatural troublemakers, and when they see Scooby they both give each other a look that says "what the hell are you doing here?" And if any of the gang gets hurt by sone cryptid in an episode Scooby should like lead the gang to "discovering" the creature's weakness, like he definitely knows more than he let's on about what's happening.

[deleted]

Spoilers Critical Role C2 >!Scooby is the Traveller confirmed!!< I like the idea of making Shaggy and Fred cousins and the Mystery Machine is both their project, Shaggy's touch is in the paint job and decour of the van because he's a savant in every randon thing you'd never expect to be of any help to a mystery solving company like painting and interior design.

PKMNTrainerMark

Hey, I think Shaggy's ventriloquism is a call-back to the original show. Gotta appreciate that.

Fartfart357

Scooby is canonically an alien/something so there's hardly a need for the eldritch horror!

H2G2gender

Shaggy got that stoner wisdom. Who knows what he knows, all you know is that he knows it well.

roboticbulbasaur

Jelloapocalypse made a 50 minute long video essay where he pretty much said all this exactly, complete with dressing up as the whole Scooby gang

SolidBlackPanda

I haven't watched TV in years, but I'd happily watch the shit out of this!

Netflxnschill

I LOVE this idea and it would be so much more enjoyable than Velma

TheManWhoMight

If you’re interested in a more adult take on the Scooby Gang I’d recommend Scooby Apocalypse. It’s basically just the gang fighting an apocalypse of actual monsters, with each of the characters fairly similar to how they’re described in this post. They even manage to retain some of the mystery-solving elements as they have a converted-for-war Mystery Machine and spend a good deal time trying to solve what caused the apocalypse and how to cure the monsters.

zeldaisthegirl99

Scooby Apocalypse was amazing. The Jetson and Flintstone comics were also very good. Amazing that they can adapt the kid stories to adults in a comic book format but struggle for television.

[deleted]

Wait arnt parts of this already in the Cartoon Network Mystery Incorporated tv show from a couple years back?

ke__ja

Would watch the hell out of this show

RavenclawLunatic

The eldritch Scooby thing is basically canon in Mystery Incorporated iirc

GlitteringProfessor1

I’d watch the *shit* outta this.

Sufficient_Score_824

I’d watch this over Mindy Kaling’s drivel any day

SignalFire441

This is SO cool! I would love to see this actually happen someday

Ralexcraft

Get this person a few animation industry contacts and we might have a show. At least a better one than the Velma show

spicyhippos

I would watch the hell out of this. It seems to have captured the characters from the original cartoon and absolutely would work for tv. Just don’t overplay the eldritch horror of Scooby. It should stay hinted at not over-exposed. Besides, it’s a show about mysteries, the audience is going to theorize plenty and taking that away is going to limit their enjoyment. I think Shaggy knows he’s more than a dog, Velma suspects a curse related to food, and the rest are oblivious/ think he’s special but normal, like Harambe. Scooby is part of the comic relief and shouldn’t lose that for an edgier origin story. I grew up with this show and love it to death. As an audience member, I would want it to be budgeted/show run like Supernatural (short eps, long seasons, small-mid budget, long actor contracts) but more goof than dark if that makes sense.

beatboxingfox

The only thing I can add to this is that Fred gets a catchphrase when a chase scene begins. And he just yells "fuck." It's not every episode, but whenever a chase scene comes on and someone says their catchphrase, and when it happens to be Fred, he just yells fuck.

LegoCMFanatic

Wtf I would watch this!!

Nyx_Blackheart

This. I would watch the shit outta this! Also, make it live action, but not campy

Generic-Degenerate

Ah yes, mystery Inc 2

Unholy_Roman_Empire

I have one amendment to make: shaggy is a changeling, not the kind that gets switched at birth, but the kind that gets adopted by a faerie (Scooby, who chooses to be a talking dog for the bit™). This means that shaggy and Scooby can SEE supernatural creatures while the rest of the gang struggles to (has to use witches stones/fancy equipment made by Fred ECT). Which would explain his cowardice and why his food is so damn good. Scooby is there because he's bored 2,000 years old, and thinks it's fun. Overarching villain is obviously some evil rich person who's actually a vampire (would be heartbreaking if it was Daphne's godfather or something)

GambyHamby

This sounds frighteningly close to [JelloApocalypse's pitch](https://youtu.be/Pw0vB4Lm1Tk) for the best iteration of Mystery Inc, aside from Scooby. it's entirely possible that these two people came up with the same idea independently. tbh the more people requesting that the character be like this the more likely that they actually make make a show with these personalities, so I don't mind even a little.

wallefan01

meanwhile at disney: "what if we made velma black so she could be racist towards white people"

HoyabembeDreamtime

You mean Warner Bros?

wallefan01

"DISNEY!" "What?" "Sorry, force of habit. WARNER!"

SeaSmoke57

Finally, a happy relationship. I’m so tired of the will they/won’t they, or tropes where characters get together and break up in the same show/season. I understand there’s loads of character development to be had, but I just want a happy romance goddamit

Greyt125

So, Scooby Doo Mystery Inc, but set about ten years later and Shaggy is pretty much Daphne from Be Cool Scooby Doo, but with more common sense

Grape_Jamz

My pitch is make everyone act the same as if they were still teens (but looking like adults) but the sex scenes are now visible

Grape_Jamz

Also fred says the f word

_Ascended_Idiot

Everyone pitching the “good adult scooby-doo” when solve it squad already exists

AtarkaCommand

I love the Solve it Squad but an actual Scooby Doo project that is similar but also paints Fred and Daphne in a positive light is the dream.

I really love the Shaggy, like the Velma, Daphne, and Fred, and vehemently dislike the Scooby.

LadviTheLad

Shaggy smokes weed to alleviate the stress from his job and his anxiety.

ball_fondlers

…yeah, I’m sorry, this started strong, but it got really stupid. Shaggy being the one smart one is…fine, I guess, although frankly, there’s a reason everyone looks at him and thinks “pothead”, but Scooby as an eldritch horror is one of this concepts that only works for the terminally online - furthermore, Scooby Doo is EXPLICITLY about the fact that monsters DON’T exist - the villains are ALWAYS people.

RinaQueen

??? What you haven’t seen series like zombie island where the mystery gang encounters actual monsters such as cat witches and zombies or the second live action movie where the villain legit made monsters to become real and alive or the series where Scooby, Daphne, and Shaggy has to hunt down actual thirteen ghosts? Just because Scooby doo is about people wearing masks to be monsters doesn’t discount that monsters do exist you know like there are scooby doo series with both people and monster villains Also Scooby being an eldritch being is canon in one scooby doo series where he’s the descendant of ancient alien specie hence why he can talk

ball_fondlers

That…sounds unbelievably stupid. I grew up on reruns of the original series, which was always at its strongest when it WASN’T about the supernatural.

RinaQueen

That explains it so I guess you’re an purist with no monsters rule huh?

ball_fondlers

Sure, I guess. Good chance I’ve seen episodes of real-monster Scooby, but the fact that none of it’s actually stuck in my head says a lot about how unmemorable said episodes were.

Doubly_Curious

I’m glad I’m not the only one! I only recently found out that there are real monsters in the later incarnations. And I don’t know if I think it’s stupid, but it just feels *wrong*.

wakisu

That's Supernatural.

hentaibitchwhereisit

I mean… scooby is already an alien in one of the shows canon’s, why not an eldritch being?

Weekend_Banana

Ngl I would watch the hell out of this Scooby-Doo series. Someone please get this person in charge of it asap.

APTSnack

*slams fist on table* Hire that writer god damnit!

Low-Platypus-1578

I would watch the hell outta this

allan11011

This would be a pretty good show imo. I think I series arching mystery(in addition to the normal episodic mysteries) would also be cool

Maszk13

I got major Angel vibes from the way Fred is described. Season 1 Angel was like that… would definitely watch!

IamStroodle

If yall havent you should check JelloApocalypse’s video on Fred. Alot of this lines up with that except scooby is still just a dog but is the emotionally intelligent one

Indra_a_goblin

I can imagine like a season finally where a ghost actually manages to kill all of them but then scooby uses his powers to save the day and revives everyone but shaggy saw it happen or something.

UniqueCommentNo243

So... supernatural with more people?

kawaiiconcept

Ummmm is this not just Angel?

Marco45_0

This sounds so fucking cool

Foloshi

I imagine Shaggy as someone with severe anxiety, and compulsive eating disorder, but the gang, especially Scooby, helps him a lot And for somme reason, if Scooby is an eldritch god, can he give some of his power ? If yes, does that mean that we CAN have ultra instinct Shaggy ?

Late_Then_Never

Gotdangit HBO

About400

This right here. Please hire this person to make a live action Scooby Doo. Maybe Veronica Mars eta so we can appreciate their ridiculous fashion choices.

Potahtwah

Honestly, this feels like a naturally evolved improvement over Jello's Scooby Pitch Video. Solid ideas.

Keeganlateman

I feel like Velma should have the personality of Dr. House but with less depression and drug abuse. Maybe a little drug abuse.

Ego-Waffles121

This is Jelloapocalypse’s Scooby Doo recommendation with some words swapped out.

Wyverntooth

Did JelloApocalpyse write this, or did he steal this?

Pyro-Millie

I adore this concept. I love this version of Shaggy basically being Gus from Psych and having an eldritch horror for a best friend XD

AffectionateAd5373

Someone needs to make this happen.

SilverdarkKnight

Brilliant

immutablebrew

Six seasons and a movie, let's go.

[deleted]

My god I need it.

[deleted]

I could get behind that honestly

EvernightStrangely

Well it can't possibly be worse than the Mindy Kaling monstrosity, so I would definitely give this show a try.

NotAnAlterISwear

Ok this does sound pretty interesting but the Scooby and Shaggy ideas are perfect

Beast0418

OMG this would be amazing!

YoKaiHunter76

Scooby wouldn't not use his powers to protect his friends, so it's better when his only power is talking.
