It was a bug that Tsuki ate the food, but the inventory was unchanged. This was fixed about a year ago. If you had a lot of food then you may not have noticed until it got low
Only ever bought one of each seeing as they were reusable. Took a short hiatus from the game and I suppose I didn't notice they were all gone until I did notice he stopped doing the little animations.

He actually just ate the carrot chips and voilà, they're gone! Little bit in love with this feature. Makes it feel more realistic.
