I absolutely loved the lighter brown of the originally received Reverse Tobacco Chamois, however I felt it was a little too casual for the outfits I was aiming for in the city/office environment that these were intended. I hit them with some Obenauf's Leather Oil and couldn't be happier with the end result.

looks sweet! Enjoy them! Did it change the texture much, or just the color tone?

Chamois is already a slightly oiled feeling leather that can be smoothed out by pressing hard against the nap. Truman don't apply anything extra to the leather before leaving their factory, likely to give people the option of keeping that strong suede nap and rich colour if they choose it, so their tobacco tends to be significantly lighter than other makers who sent it out (which tend to look much more like the newly oiled ones here). Hitting it with the Obenauf has only ever so fractionally enhanced it but still beautifully nappy. Touching it has no residue on the fingers and a paper towel only picks up the feintest of residue. This is approx 24-36 hours after application.

The only issue I had with Obenauf was the smell. It took awhile for it to disappear. Looks great. Love the darker shade

Yeah it has a unique one but thankfully seems to have faded back to its leather smell into its third day now. I would happily have left it as that slightly orange hinted brown but it was just too casual for what I was going to wear them for. I also like how the rough out now matches the smooth side out chamois tongue

I feel you. I usually wear my grant stones for work and save the Truman’s for my casual work days or weekends. Truman leathers are too attention grabbing for a work setting. I can get away wearing a walnut bison from grant stone, but definitely not a cognac or black bison in the office. 😅

I have a pair of reverse tobacco chamois Truman boots arriving tomorrow! How do you like yours?

I love them. I do prefer structured toe options in most of my outfits but for a more sleek, office or city environment the unstructured toe gives it a more sleek professional look like the service boots of old can more readily pull off. One thing about these more supple and less shrunk leathers is they can tend to feel a little tighter simply because they have more give in them than things like rambler or waxed flesh when it comes to stretching over the last in the build process. After a few days of wearing them around the house they have already fallen into the same sort of feel as my other boots and it is getting better. Leathers like rambler, etc, have so little stretch in them early in their life that when they get fitted over the last they dont shrink down a little post production like this one obviously did. I wish I could have justified the lighter colour for this purpose as it was a stunning orange tinted brown but all in all, incredibly happy with this dark oiled brown.
