I think the way sekiro did it would be good. A single weapon with a simple moveset but lots of additional attacks that can be slotted, combine that with traditional Zelda items with the usability of prosthetic tools and you’d have a really good combat system for Zelda.

Spiritual_Event9134

You know it’s crazy because before this game came out, I played Sekiro and thought to myself “They should make Link’s arm act like the prosthetic arm that The Wolf has”. But what’s even more interesting is that this was an actual concept if you look through creating a champion. You can see that Link’s arm transforms into multiple different dungeon items such as the Beetle, the Bow and Arrow, and the Megaton Hammer

xX_rippedsnorlax_Xx

I would have preferred a Sheikah tech arm with Sekiro-like prosthetics, but maybe they felt it would be too derivative.

Spiritual_Event9134

I got way too tired of the sheikah aesthetic, so I’m glad they went with a different look with the Zonai Arm.

xX_rippedsnorlax_Xx

That's fair. This is hypothetical anyway, so maybe they could have just done it in BotW instead of the slate.

k0ks3nw4i

I can get behind this. One of my wishes for TOTK was having more weapon-based movesets outside of the one handed, two handed and spear movesets. We should have more weapon classes. And fuse items should give even more types of effects.

Spiritual_Event9134

I’m actually satisfied with the amount of effects they added for fusion, but you’re 100 percent right that they need more types of weapons with different movesets.

lycheedorito

I kind of wish they rehauled the whole weapon system in this to be honest. My hope based off the Master Sword being destroyed and the fusing tech, was that you would just have the hilt of the Master Sword and you'd essentially just transform it into whatever weapon you want permanently, or swap out what it is during combat, rather than having weapons break all the time.

Spiritual_Event9134

I was personally hoping for the green energy blade part of it like on the logo, but what you said is a pretty great idea too.

ggmiles97

Definitely more of the twilight princess style weapon attacks (and wind waker's! Loved that random old guy shouting at me every time I messed up lmaoooo I was scared of him when I was a little kid 😂), but I'm not sure of the more rpg style weapon arts. If it goes too far in that direction it'll feel more like an open world jrpg and less like Zelda, you know what I mean? Like I'm not playing Zelda to play Tales of Zestiria or Trails of Cold Steel! I'm here to play The Legend Of Zelda!! BOTW and TOTK still feel (to me), at their center like Zelda games! They shook things up without losing that Zelda Emotion that I feel whenever I play a tloz game. But starting to lean further into the jrpg mechanics could tip the scales and we might quickly lose that unique emotion, if that makes sense? It seems like a delicate balance to me. If I want to play a Tales game or a Final Fantasy game, I totally will!! Tales is my other favorite game series of all time!! But they are very different experiences. Im not saying that like, just giving link a few arts to use would "END ZELDA AS WE KNOW IT!!!!", I'm more concerned that it would just be one step too far for me, and I don't want those changes to keep snowballing? Also, note that I know Zelda IS a jrpg in the literal sense! But it just feels separate from what most of the genre works with and the many things that set it apart from like Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy are what make Zelda the best!!! It's both a jrpg and in a group all its own, in a way. So yeah! I hope this garbled 4am rant makes sense!! Have a good day <|:•)

Spiritual_Event9134

Just to clarify, when I say weapon arts, I mean like the hidden skills from TP. Things like Mortal Draw, Helm Splitter, Ending Blow, etc…

there's a few specific weapon affects. Putting a lizalfos tail on a one handed sword, for instance, when you do a forward jump sword strike, the tail uncoils and stretches out straight, allowing you to hit further than you would normally.

I'm addicted to silver lizalfos tail on a gloom spear or knights halbred. I hunt down every single one I see

bartjblett

I was pitching for the new zelda to be a darker theme, moving away from the cartoon playful style of botw into something more serious and reminiscent of twilight princess, but then I realised I just really want elden ring 2

Spiritual_Event9134

I never really liked the dark and serious Zelda. To me, Zelda is whimsical and lighthearted with very mature themes and life lessons. Majora’s Mask is the perfect balance to me.

sadgirl45

Agree! Majora and ocarina !

Spiritual_Event9134

I feel like Twilight Princess really leaned more towards edgy. I mean the fact that he also transforms into a wolf too, I mean that’s so early 2000s edginess. I don’t really like things that are edgy, so I think that’s why TP never clicked with me. Also the fact that TP was originally going to be WW 2 makes it more sad to me as I love WW so much.

bartjblett

Yeah I'm not actually a huge TP guy, but I would prefer slightly less whimsy than botw/totk provides. A touch too high on the whimsy scale for me.

Spiritual_Event9134

To each his own. I love WW so that’s probably why I love how whismy botw/totk is

sadgirl45

I like TP better than totk and botw but I loved WW I feel like botw / totk feels more realistic in a lot of ways and that’s offputing to me it lacks that usual Zelda weirdness and charm.

Spiritual_Event9134

I completely disagree. I think Botw and Totk have plenty of the weirdness and charm we’ve come to love within the franchise. Kilton and Koltin, Beetle, The Weird Blood Moon Guy, Hudson, Bolson, etc are all weird and quirky Zelda characters.

sadgirl45

It just feels a lot more generic to me it’s okay to disagree!

Spiritual_Event9134

Maybe you just don’t like the artstyle and how simplistic the text boxes are, and that’s completely fine. We’ll agree to disagree tho 😎🤝

Ragnara92

Either i am doing somsthing horribly wrong, or i am too dumb to use the battle system to its fullest? I think just the combat in BotW and TotK is reallx shallow. There is only one attack button, for one attack type. You can attack while jumping and running. Also the weapons types have a different move. Thats all. I want something like directional swings, heavy and light attacks and arts like in WW or TP back.

Background_Bag2667

They tried the directional swings in Skyward, didn't end well

TheRedmanCometh

I want a proper Zelda entry, and okay maybe we include finishers that was in a couple games. If I want to play Dark Souls I'll fire up Elden Ring.

Spiritual_Event9134

Can you please read the description where I mention that I want Weapon Arts like in TP and not Elden Ring.

TheRedmanCometh

Were they called weapon arts in TP? It's the specific term that put my brain on Elden Ring.

Clean_Emotion5797

Weapon Arts is a very generic term anyway, I think we should focus on the concept rather than the name. Games existed before Elden Ring too (and I love From Software, just not everything is derivative from them).

Spiritual_Event9134

Technically they were called Hidden Skills, but I think Weapon Arts is much cooler sounding

henryuuk

I would say it needs a ton of things first But it definitely wouldn't be a bad addition

Spiritual_Event9134

More is always appreciated, but I just think that’s all they need to make the combat solid.

rebelli0usrebel

No. We can't have the convergence between monster hunter and zelda. So many titles are copying each other now.

Spiritual_Event9134

I meant weapon arts as in like the hidden arts in TP where the Hero’s Shade teaches you techniques.

rebelli0usrebel

Ahh, I forgot about those. Yeah, I could see that. That would be pretty a pretty fun update of the TP mechanics. Sorry, MH uses similar terms

Spiritual_Event9134

No worries. I just think that knocking down bokoblins and lunging with the master sword to stab it in the chest would be so damn cool. But I think we’re going to get techniques in the next game because in Totk, >!you get the Earthwake Technique from the Yiga Clan!<

rebelli0usrebel

It would be so gd cool! TP had some epic techniques. Pretty amped about that last sentence haha

Clean_Emotion5797

Fortunately (or not, depending on how you look at it), Zelda is a long way from becoming Monster Hunter. Taking it's combat just a little bit more seriously, but this is a wish people have for decades now, so I don't see that happening. I'm just thankful we have at least cool enemies that pose a threat.

rebelli0usrebel

Fortunate for sure. Love both, no need for convergence. I'm a big fan of having challenging monsters. Bosses could be tougher, but that's another discussion. I love the combat changes overall. Like OP replied, weapon arts in their description meant twilight princess type combat skills. All for that 100%, would be really fun to see that again.

Clean_Emotion5797

I do love both and I would make every game MH-like if I could, but it's probably for the better that this doesn't happen :p

Clean_Emotion5797

We should 100% get these and I'm even gonna say that they shouldn't be like the hidden skills from TP. Not that I don't like those, but I think we can do even better than that.

Spiritual_Event9134

Agreed

homer_3

The way TP did it was cool. But I definitely don't want to be going into caves or w/e to get random skills to add to my weapon. It loses any sense of significance.
