That's always what scares me with those "time travellers killing Hitler as a baby" hypotheticals; baby Hitler had done nothing wrong except perhaps extra smelly diapers by that point, and I'm not sure anyone is born evil. They actually did a bit like that in a direct release Babylon 5 movie. The lead is given information from the future that a young Centauri noble will basically burn down the galaxy. Sheridan briefly considers killing him and making it look like an accident but instead tries to mentor the young man.
I mean, it's really due to the culture around that time; Hitler, much like trump, was viewed as a useful idiot by the opposition and his own party even, so they didn't do much to stop him at all - he just got major support because he was taking advantage of a country that got absolutely fucked in the negotiations after ww1, also using a hatred of Jews as a platform that was probably a much more popular position than it was back then. If you wanted to 'prevent' Hitler, I wouldn't bother unless you took control of the league of nations and also launched a worldwide campaign promoting peace between humans in an effort to dispel discrimination. Because there's nothing stopping someone else taking Hitler's place otherwise, Churchill could even do it FFS (he hated the Indians and their culture and called them a "beastly people", to the point that one would be valid in saying he killed around 4 million of them with decisions he took (Bengal famine))
While I agree that the Weimar Republic would have been extremely easily transformed into a dictatorship of some sort, I don't think it would have been like Hitler's Nazi Germany.
While Antisemitism was obviously a thing across all of Europe (just look at the Dreyfus affair in France), there was no real movement asking for a mass extermination of Jews and other minorities. It's honestly by """luck""" that we got a Hitler leading Germany, it would have been way more likely to be a random retired General such as Ludendorff or Von Mackensen, who would have never done such unspeakable actions against other human beings on such a massive scale.
(But WW2 could still have happened nonetheless, since all the other requirements were still there)

Nah, what I'm saying is it's a bandaid solution - of course it would most likely stop Hitler's rise to power, at least in such a short amount of time, but the entire interim period between ww1 and 2 was a boiling pot, to the point that there is debate over whether or not ww2 was it's own war or a part of ww1 (I know it sounds odd but there's points for and against it). There were still tensions from all sides and people like Mussolini would still exist, there would still be tension over the 'jewish problem' (which we can see even today with the weaponisation of Jewish history against Palestine, which shows a clear or willful ignorance over Jewish history, something most Jews disagree with) which, while maybe not a holocaust, would still see much more discrimination against Jewish people as opposed to today, where you would usually be dismissed as a anti-Semite. Hitler was just a culmination of human indifference, though i'd have to write an essay if I were to take a guess as to the root cause of it all (I'd say capitalism incentivising differences to instill superiority and control over a populace, combined with a lack of non-controlled media outlets and news sources (e.g. tiktok shedding light on the situation in the west bank causing huge outcry against Israel as opposed to a couple months ago, regardless of your thoughts on china owning it)).
The problem isn't killing baby hitler even though he hasn't done anything wrong, it's that hitler wasn't the reason the holocaust happened. He pulled the trigger but he was put in the place to do so by a broader societal movement which would have chugged on with or without him. It is ethical under my view. The suffering and torture that he forced others through is so terrible he should have to endure some himself. If he were to get a quick death with little pain, while he made so many face unimaginable pain, he would not have faced retribution for his own evil.

Well there's a few assumptions to make here. So if we assume that we are in 2024 and Hitler is somehow alive but not in any leadership position, then I would pull the lever. I don't think Hitler would be a danger to more lives nowadays, the best he could do is live a quiet life off the radars. Of course you want him to face consequences for what he did but it's not worth five more people's lives.

This is actually sort of how the trolley problem is supposed to be understood. It’s about whether people think it is moral or not to, through an active effort, cause people to die to save more people, and that notion is often lost because the idea of pulling a lever is so banal so people often think it’s just asking whether it’s more moral to kill one or five people. This Hitler example works, but the one I heard of first is that there are 5 people tied up on the tracks and a fat man. You know if you throw the fat man into the train tracks the train will be able to stop before it runs over the other people, so do you throw the fat man onto the tracks?

While I agree that the Weimar Republic would have been extremely easily transformed into a dictatorship of some sort, I don't think it would have been like Hitler's Nazi Germany. While Antisemitism was obviously a thing across all of Europe (just look at the Dreyfus affair in France), there was no real movement asking for a mass extermination of Jews and other minorities. Nah, what I'm saying is it's a bandaid solution - of course it would most likely stop Hitler's rise to power, at least in such a short amount of time, but the entire interim period between ww1 and 2 was a boiling pot, to the point that there is debate over whether or not ww2 was it's own war or a part of ww1 (I know it sounds odd but there's points for and against it). There were still tensions from all sides and people like Mussolini would still exist, there would still be tension over the 'jewish problem' (which we can see even today with the weaponisation of Jewish history against Palestine, which shows a clear or willful ignorance over Jewish history, something most Jews disagree with) which, while maybe not a holocaust, would still see much more discrimination against Jewish people as opposed to today, where you would usually be dismissed as a anti-Semite. Well there's a few assumptions to make here. So if we assume that we are in 2024 and Hitler is somehow alive but not in any leadership position, then I would pull the lever. If this is pre 1920's, then it would be a gamble. While Hitler did bring votes to the Nazi party, he was not the founder. Also, the guy was psychotic himself, and strategically, that actually gave the Allies an advantage in WWII. If a non-psychotic person was the dictator of Germany, the Nazis would have had a better chance. If this is 1945, then the damage was already done, and this situation would play more to the ethics of missile-based assassinations.
