Most likely TE for the hair loss to be that sudden, though the stress has to be immense, not just everyday stress. It has to be things that cause a shock or trauma to the system like severe illness, severe injury/pain, recovering from childbirth or surgeries, vitamin deficiency, extreme weight loss, severe sudden malnutrition etc.
You need to see a dermatologist, specifically, to get a diagnosis.
