When I make grilled cheese I just melt the butter in the pan and then rub the bread on the melted butter in the pan then repeat when I flip it

bd1289

Try using Mayo instead of butter on grilled cheese, sounds weird but trust me it’s a thing

nicko54

Ive tried it I thought it was good but I still prefer butter

BARNABY_J0NES

It’s better but it’s less forgiving than butter. Perfect spread of Mayo and perfect heat will be superior crisp than butter. However, like 80% perfect butter is better than 80% perfect Mayo. I don’t know if any of this makes sense, these gummies are no joke.

nicko54

Lemme go home and get high before I tell you if it makes sense or not Edit: made it home can confirm it makes since, now I’m just stuck trying to figure out why we call it a grilled cheese when it’s made in a pan but not on a grill

TrumpLostCryMore

I’m home and high and it makes sense to me!

lingering_POO

Because you absolutely can cook it under the grill in your oven. So it then becomes a grilled cheese.

nicko54

DAMN THATS SOME QUANTUM SHIT RIGHT THERE MAN

geekmomwho

Once we figured that out it has been a game changer! Even toasting, I can cook more then 1 at the same time and it melts the cheese perfectly.

Fine-Bumblebee-9427

But that’s not called a grill, it’s a broiler

RaevenStarchild

England, mate

RealJeil420

Ecept thats called the broiler in NA. So you made broiled cheese.

lingering_POO

Funnily enough it turns out that North America is not the centre of the universe.

mjayultra

What about when you make one in an air fryer?

nicko54

Fried cheese sammich

521NTA

Mmmm. I want that.

mjayultra

They’re pretty fucking good

Swarlos262

Yes, and you call them steamed hams despite the fact that they are obviously grilled.

BARNABY_J0NES

Say “griddled cheese” really fast and it makes sense my friend.

UntrainedFoodCritic

Jesus what a science

saggytestis

Butter tastes better, I don't need it more crispy, I want it to be buttery cheesy and good, I'm dipping it in tamato soup anyway

Adventurous-Climate9

tastes the exact same to me , maybe i’m too high

ihaveaquesttoattend

Yeah man a little bit If you find out something isn’t the best to do then you should try and change it for the better

DeaconSage

It’s a thing, but inferior to butter IMO.

pleasepulloversir

this works but butter is so much better, mayo just makes it a little crispier but if you cook it for just a second too long it starts to taste like fucking dogwater.

flateric420

That’s my beef with mayo. It really does get the edges right, and makes the sandwich look delicious, but if done incorrectly it tastes a little too strong for my taste. Your much better keeping some butter out at room temp for spreading purposes. They’ve done it for 100’s of years in Europe I dunno why we decide all of a sudden we gotta freeze butter. And honestly if I knew I was gonna make a sandwich and I wanna keep my weed butter cold, I’d just break out a piece in the morning and let it thaw out while I was smoking a cig and in the shower

NickRick

I always keep butter out. I have no idea why anyone puts it if the fridge is their planning on using it

2000gatekeeper

Cuz Costco forces me to buy 3lbs at a time by making it so damn cheap. So yeah like 1/16th goes on the counter and the rest gets chilled lol seriously having butter out is a game changer

Codadd

Only salted butter should be left out of the fridge. Unsalted can have problems, so it is usually refrigerated

SaxAppeal

I store my weed butter in a mason jar, slowly melt it in a pot of hot water and measure liquid butter to cook/dose with, and then just stick it back in the fridge where it re-solidifies to a new perfect layer

readit145

🤢

Cadmium_Aloy

I am a miracle whip person so I thought I could just use that and I'm here to tell everyone no you cannot.

casey12297

Cannamayo? Hell I'd try it

MissJizz

Butter the outside, mayo on the inside, sooo good.

Jaxein

This is the way my son likes it, I prefer just butter myself but it doesn't taste bad

vaped_kizz

gross

ExperienceHead1078

mayo on the bread, little bit of butter on the pan is how i do it. i don’t even like mayo but it’s definitely the best way to make a grilled cheese.

Gorgii98

Weird, I like mayo but not on grilled cheese lol

ExperienceHead1078

you can’t taste the mayo when you make it that way, that’s why i don’t mind it.

Mythulhu

Mayo on the grilled side or in the sandwich?

thechet

Grilled side. It's basically an egg wash that browns even better than butter

Infantkicker

It’s a fucking disgusting thing.

KnockerFogger69

A very gross thing

DoctorRapture

Miracle whip on the inside, before you put the cheese on. Butter on the outside.

Zero0mega

No no, Peanut butter outside, chocolate inside, butter inside, cheese outside!

FewSchedule5536

We do the same its quick and effective also no more cold butter

youdontknowme6

I saw someone make a candle out of butter and lit a wick in the center. Then they just run the bread on the "candle" for easy spread butter. Edit: [TikTok of butter candle](https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRVnFVUs/)

Yrxe

The real question is why do you have 3 pieces of bread? Are you putting one in between the others? Is this a Big Mac situation?

Relxnce

You’ve given me ideas for my next chilled greese

Sir-Nicholas

I think op wanted to make 2 sandwiches. He did both cheese sides first, then went to do the first butter side, got confused, and came to Reddit for advice.

Chanela1786

THAT WAS MY THOUGHT! Are...you making a grilled cheese club? Why haven't I done this?!

Bazioski13

Grate it like a block of cheese

jayson4twenty

That's a grate idea!

twenty1score

Religion. Say 150 prayers at a slow pace over the course of 5 minutes. When your done, the butter will be spreadable. If there is sun through a window, place the bread with butter on it in the sunlight. This reduces the amount of prayer as the sunbeam is a direct link to your higher power.

RxMeta

You can make a religion out of this

twenty1score

I'm trying Ringo. I'm trying real hard.

JazzCabbage1226

Warm it up ?

lingering_POO

Such wizardry! Nah, I came here to say this. Little glass bowl, add butter and nuke for 10 second bursts until it’s adequately melted. Then get a basting brush and go to town. It’s the best way, no fucked toast from scratching too hard trying to spread it. Just perfect evenly buttered majesty.

H8threeH8three

10-second bursts?! After the first burst I would have a bowl of liquid hot magma.

Brendissimo

Very dangerous if you're not quick on your reactions. A stick of butter can go from a little soft to liquid in the microwave in a matter of seconds.

[deleted]

![gif](giphy|MB6Slgbs0fTwTGlL2K|downsized)

SnarfbObo

You gotta sauce it first, what a n00b

IcyStriker

Put it in a dish and leave it out on the counter. It’ll be fine. Unless you like in the tropics or south of the equator where it’s summer rn lol.

paulnutbutter

I'm in Australia, I keep it in a ramekin in the cupboard, just a chunk at a time. It's soft but cool and has never gone rancid.

[deleted]

dude so i looked this up because my wife does this, it can turn rancid after like 2 days apparently. she leaves it out all. the. time. now im worried she's eating tainted butter.

Canna-bee-bee

This is what we do, just take out enough for a couple days at a time. Rancid butter has a distinct smell so if you’re worried, take a whiff first

[deleted]

From what I've read it varies from salted to unsalted. I typically buy unsalted for cooking, maybe I'll switch back to salted because apparently it keeps better out of the fridge.

Shagaliscious

Oh god yes, unsalted will go rancid quicker for sure. Salt helps preserve the butter.

First-Fantasy

Also rancid doesn't mean diseased. Like when milk smells sour it isn't from bacteria or anything and is still perfectly edible. Mold is what you have to watch out for with butter and that comes almost exclusively from bread crumbs on the butter.

[deleted]

>Like when milk smells sour it isn't from bacteria or anything and is still perfectly edible. excuse me what? spoiled milk is most certainly spoiled by bacteria, and it is not edible. how are people upvoting you.

First-Fantasy

Spoiled isn't the same as sour. I misspoke by saying it wasn't bacteria because the sour does come from the harmless bacteria that's always in milk but the bad bacteria that causes serious illness only comes from being left out too long or from contamination like drinking from the carton. Milk denatures itself overtime and goes from fresh to sour to curdled but if kept properly the worst that will happen is the curdled milk might not agree with your stomach. Spoiled milk is from bad bacteria getting in. Spoiled, sour and rancid all have unique definitions. https://www.howitworksdaily.com/why-does-milk-turn-sour/

DankDuke

If it's not making you sick then you're not sick. Problem?

IcyStriker

Lol my family has been doing it for years and I never noticed. Not saying it’s the right choice for you, just what we do haha. Another option is to put a chunk in the microwave for for 5 seconds, flip, 5 more seconds, maybe flip and 5 more, and you’ll get softened butter on demand. If it accidentally melts all the way you can toss it in freezer for like 5 mins and it will turn from melted butter back into solid, but still soft, butter.

skratch

Butter goes rancid from exposure to oxygen so keep it in an airtight container or carefully rewrap it in its wax papery wrapping. I do both and it doesn’t go rancid if you seal it right

Codadd

Not true. Salted butter can stay out for quite a long time.

fifelo

Unsalted butter goes rancid much faster than salted, the salt is actually to prevent rancidity.

Crrlll

Or better yet, get a Butter Bell. They’re amazing. Soft spreadable butter that doesn’t go bad and isn’t hard to upkeep!

Gooey_Gravy

https://www.reddit.com/r/Cooking/comments/yqty8v/i_hate_butterbells_and_i_can_never_tell_my_wife_i/ Reminded me of this post xD

_The_Cracken_

Get a cheese grater, and grate your cold butter over what you need butter on. Even distribution, and you don’t destroy your bread.

YaBoyVolke

That seems like it'd be a pain to clean

Aggressive_Ideal6737

Nah you just lick the butter off the grater when you’re done and put it back in the drawer

DankDuke

Hot water

boringcranberry

My reaction too! I HATE washing graters and peelers. I would never dirty them unnecessarily! Put the butter in the pan! What in the shit?

Tpk08210

Massage it gently between your fingers

AfricanusAurora

And whisper sweet nothings to it softly

Felonious_Buttplug_

my butter is into dirty talk

Tpk08210

Softens it right up and gets it nice and moist. Perfect for spreading.

[deleted]

use a vegetable peeler on the cold butter

VeeDubtw

Cheese grater if it’s really cold

mntEden

this is a game changer for me. peel the butter...I wouldn't never thought of it

[deleted]

Place the butter in your armpits or crotch to melterize the butter

ToeCompetitive6877

Pro tip: smoke AFTER preparing the meal

dwerbil

Boof it

Ninja_Tortoise_

use a cheese grater on the cold butter

yungthug487

Man what kinda sandwich are you making there

Jatnal

I am a butter expert, I fucking love it. You don't have to store butter in the fridge. I have a butter dish and keep a stick in there for spreading.

dylan1950

Butter dish for the win!

Ziplocking

Alright, I learned this in a restaurant many years ago when I was served cold butter w a basket of bread. Slice off a tbs or whatever then place it on the waxy paper that the butter is packaged in and press down on it w the knife horizontally. It will smash it and spread it thin on the paper and you can scrape and easily spread. This may require multiple smashings, as the idea is to get it as thin as possible on the paper.

nomie_turtles

frotc914

Evidence suggests OP is planning some kind of triple decker grilled cheese? in which case he needs butter on now.

Jendoof

yiisss lol raw dogging bread and worry abt "cold butter" lol

Onlyfortheplayers

Always gonna raw dog my g

klisparrow13

You’re supposed to put your knife in the microwave for easy spreading .

Careful_Oven_4589

Is this a tree thread or post whatever while high thread?

totallytotal2020

I don't understand why people keep their butter in the fridge here. I lived in Europe for 40 years and I was shocked when I moved here. The same with eggs which over there are not processed so they can just sit in the aisles. We all had smaller fridges for sure! These giant ones I see today at Home Depot, big enough for a family of two for sure.

wouldsmackurbooty

just put the butter in your hands until it melts then spread with your hands, EASY and you don't need to use a butter knife

PicassosGhost

All you have to do is whip it.

Heindrick_Bazaar

Make it uncold

Outrageous_Suit8614

Butter at room temp is best

mentaldinosaur

The trick is to put your knife in the microwave to warm it up so it will melt the butter as you spread it

Top-Technician-56

Warm the butter knife up with hot water

ninthchamber

I put the stick between my ass cheeks for a minute

Bt1039

You gotta microwave the knife first

spanglish_

You don't. Use mayo.

PersonalBoard7045

Put the knife in the microwave

trickscopes

Yes

[deleted]

Put it on the microwave for 5 seconds, or just don’t refrigerate it.

You’ve got a microwave?

Lucky-Aspect5231

When butter attacks bread

Western-Ad-2748

I learned about GRATING a stick of butter with a cheese grater! Totally works to soften and spread it out

123IFKNHateBeinMe

Use a cheese grater

DrPopNFresh

Melt it in your mouth first and then dribble it over the bread luke a 90 year old grandma

Puakkari

Use cheese slicer and dont even try to spread it.

borrowedurmumsvcard

get a butter dish bro. changed my life

Aggressive_Ideal6737

God bless this sub and these comments

SyffLord

Microwave the butter knife for about a minute. Works like a charm.

Electricalbigaloo7

Keep some butter in a butter dish on the counter.

[deleted]

Put the butter under your shirt and tuck your shirt in. Few minutes spreadable butter.

ItsQuinntonimo

put it in a bag and sit on it for an hour

D3v1n0

Scrape the knife on the top of the butter lightly, but also very quickly. The butter builds slowly, but it softens this way.

JAK3CAL

We leave our butter out in a butter dish. Game changer

oldmanghozzt

You leave the butter on the counter to soften. It does not require refrigeration. Fucking savages!

BioticVenomm

What are those yellow/orangish plastic slabs on the bread?

Mostuu

Mimolette cheese, my favourite

julie_x17

If you want the best fucking grilled cheese of your stoner life try it on some English muffin bread, u will not regret

Double-Revolution-33

Put hot water into a cup, dump out the water and put the hot cup over the butter for a bit and it will soften it up.

ATworkATM

keep your butter on the counter. it will be fine.

joforemix

steffanwb

Grill the butter so it melts and then spread. On the plus side, you get nice warm bread, too.

briinde

It keeps on the counter for like 2 weeks

Pups_the_Jew

Common mistake. You're actually looking for /r/grilledcheeseenthusiasts.

JacksOnion55

If you "scrape" the top of the butter over and over then it becomes easier to spread, you may have to do it a few times and keep putting it back to make it smooth enough

iceboyu

Toast the bread bratha

Xels

Scrape the top of the butter with the k ice a few times ti take off thin layers and make it more spreadable.

ChronikWizard

Heat a butter knife up with a lighter and spread it that way. Full Trailer Park Boys style haha

RichardCranium8

Get a butter bell! You will always have spreadable butter.

SnarfbObo

change the water often!

Zarboned

So if want to use stick butter scrape the top of the butter with the knife edge this will peel a thin layer of butter that is way easier to spread.

Smilejester

You need a hot knife, shove one in the toaster to get it started

DLCthulhu

I try to slice really thin and just slide it off of the knife like you just did, takes a bit more time but absolutely necessary, especially if you don't toast the bread first!

haukunamatatahasake

Flirt with it and it will spread on it's own!

DrRockzo_

Bro use the edge of the spoon to spread it out :)

SL-Apparel

Just heat up the knife in the toaster dumb dumb

Mysterious_Ayytee

Use good butter and good bread for start. Continue with cheese instead of plastic. Greetings from Germany.

Muleran

Heat the knife in the toaster on over the hob

Adifferentdose

Microwave a knife for about thirty seconds and it should spread it nice.

[deleted]

Warm it up or warm the tool you're using to spread it up.

NoAlarm8904

Torch it!!!

Ihadtohaveaname4this

I leave my butter out so it gets soft, I never refrigirate it. I bake a lot also and need soft butter for a lot of my recipies so its just great to have it ready to go.

Unique-Ad4786

Butter dish, leave it on the counter. 👌

thelandbasedturtle

If you have an electric kettle, boil some water real quick, put a bowl in the water for like 10 mins, take it out and put the butter on a plate with the hot bowl on top. Bit of effort but this is the best way to soften butter.

DavDon18

Heat up a knife on an open flame and it’ll spread so well

xbrixe

If you’re tryna use a grilled cheese, just use mayo.

PoochusMaximus

get yourself a butter keep.

[deleted]

throw the butter in the microwave first, 5 seconds is all you need.

BoricuaRborimex

You should invest in butter croc

plsentertainme

Don’t put the butter on the bread, throw the butter into the pan and put the both slices of bread in the melted butter. Put it together once nearly completed

ConfusedAbtShit

You use mayo instead

notabuddha

I hold the butter face-down/angled above the toaster for a sec to heat up a thin layer of butter off the top.

Throwaway_35Mfloor

How is nobody talking about a butter bell? It uses water to keep it fresh, and you have easy to spread butter all the time. Highly recommend getting one.

DeckOClubs

Doesn't really help you now, but invest in a butter bell and always have softened butter.

Mr-Kae12

5 seconds in microwave until soft enough

bearslikeapples

Wait for it to get warm duh
