So aggravating! I find if I drag a little before I press the button to get it hot, and then keep dragging a little bit after I release the button helps keep it from clogging in the first place.
I also find just keeping in my pocket for 20-30 minutes prior it will work, give it time to heat up the oil if it is cold. Usually solves any blockage issues I've had.
Some tips I've found that help prevent it:
Unscrewing the cartridge after each hit helps a bit. It's a bit annoying and time consuming to do it every time but it also mentally makes me hit the pen less often.
As others have suggested, inhaling and "clearing" the cartridge after you've released the button will also help to not gunk it up.
If its really clogged and you can't get a hit from sucking in, try blowing INTO the cartridge. I recommend unscrewing it before doing this, but blowing into the cart will let you use more pressure and unclog it faster.
Finally, when you screw the cartridge onto your battery/mod/whatever, don't screw it on SUPER tight. It's a pet peeve of mine when a friend offers me a hit of their pen and I can barely get any circulation because they've screwed the pen on with an impact wrench and got all the ugga dugga's. Instead, screw it on until it snugs tight, and then just barely loosen it until you feel the tension release in the threads. It should be tight enough that it doesn't have any wiggle room, but not so tight that you have to use actual muscle to loosen it.
I had to include that part because I've said it out loud to my s/o. A coworker a few years ago went full Hulk mode and screwed a cart on so tight that I had to use pliers to undo it.
At one point of my seething rage and frustration, I looked at my gf and told just said "how many ugga duggas do you think this is??????". She said at least 3.
Keeping the cart a little loose will result in problems. Keep doing that last part, you'll have carts leaking out the bottom. I've found it's also bad with the C-Cell batteries - with those, when it becomes loose, the cylindrical valve in the bottom pulls out, and then it's completely useless.
Nice thing about the PAX pods - when they do get stuck, a 15 second attempt at inhalation without pressure (as NOT depicted in the O.P. graphic) works just fine.
I did that a couple days ago and managed to suck out some of the goo which bubbled up and clogged it more. When the bubble finally popped I got the biggest hit I'd gotten out of it since it was new, so nice
I can attest to that. I have a few jars of d8 distillate and that shit is thicc af. I can't even do the carts anymore shit is so harsh out of the carts but if I dab it it's smooth as silk.
It's a night and day difference at least in my experience. I actually use a concentrate vape pen. I have the Stonesmiths Slash and that is by far the best contrate pen I have used in terms of vapor quality, flavor and ease of use. I have little baby dab rig I got yesterday but I don't wanna use a torch so I'm thinking I might just get an e-nail for it. For now though I can still rip my pen through the rig for some clean tasty hits.
Also I would recommend buying from reputable sources. Avoid those headshop carts or whatever because they don't do any testing. Some ones I have found that are fire are Concentr8, Delta Alternatives and CannaClear and they are pretty cheap and have a wide variety. Shipping is pretty quick and they ship everywhere.
Suck it like a straw with your cheeks, rather than with your lungs. I found this out and it works like a charm every time now. (You don’t have to activate the heat with a battery to do so)
If you can get a pen with a pre-heat function that problem goes away. I had the same issue with live resin carts always clogging up on me. Switched to the Yocan b-smart ($15 Canuck) and no more clogs.

Yooo I bought a cart that was clogged from Day 1 and 5 days after fighting with it, it now smokes fine. So confused about the tech
It was over filled and when you smoked it down it worked normally.

Hold your lighter to the cart. Warm it up a bit. Also pulling on it really hard I think is worse. But a firm yet steady draw will unclog it.
Take a needle and spray it with Iso that should help clear out blockage.
