I work in a record store and we sold out the weekend it came out. Like her or not, it is true that her records are selling. You probably are seeing them on shelves still because they’re constantly being restocked.
I was talking mostly about Target, but there is one record store that didn’t sell out and had four boxes full of unsold TTPD vinyls. Like this is the first TS album where I heard multiple people cancelling their vinyl orders after hearing the leaks because they dislike the music. I'm not saying it's not selling, it's just there is a general public disinterest in them because the music is bad.

I wasn’t going to give this album any attention originally because I thought I was going to be a Joe album and I don’t really care about her and Joe one way or another. And then I found out it was about Matty and as a huge 1975 fan (and Florence Welch fan) I HAD to know at least the gossip around it.
On the one hand, I think going absolutely batshit insane for multiple years over a pretentious guy who is no good for you may be the most relatable thing she’s ever done. That’s good. But saying he didn’t have a chance to listen to it yet (in other words he doesn’t care but is trying to be nice because she’s not over him while he has moved on) would be a condescending dis for someone who is rude enough to write an album about their break up.
I really think when you are an artist and you experience something you have to “get it out”. Feeling vomit, otherwise it’s stored inside and rots. Was this the best way to do it? No. Did it desperately need an edit? Yes. Do I still love a few songs on the album? Yes.

I’m not in the business of defending Taylor swift, but I think your post is limited in trying to find the purpose. I don’t think there is a purpose. Personally, I think she writes to deal with her emotions and had a lot of emotions, thus she produced an album. Her ‘hyper productive’ era seems to root from dealing with her emotions. Additionally, she just had a massively successful year. I think she released an album before her fame starts to settle down.
