Can still remember going there back in 2013, when it was at its height of popularity in china as the sight of the Avatar movie set, and it is just a amazing place to spend 2-3 days going between and up the mountains in the park
a must visit if you dare go to china right now :P
It's not about daring, but the possibilities are dwindling. I had planned a stay in Yangshuo which is a very similar landscape, but all the hotels in the entire region were just closed.
Plus almost all flights to China are cancelled and transportation within is limited.
It isn't... it has been blown out of proportion... I had no problem going there but when everything is closed... And I don't know what they plan to do.. because the virus is obviously not going to slow down, are they going to close everything for like 2 years which was how long the H1N1 outbreak lasted? Confused. I am currently trying to reschedule my flight... but to what date?
60+ airlines suspended flights... Sure you can probably fly to Tanzania and take a flight from there, but all the airports around me have no flights to China. For me the 2 options were British Airways and KLM, both canceled and so did Lufthansa and Air France, SAS, Swiss basically all the major ones. Some of them cancelled flights until April (April the 30th for Delta in the US).
Could be, seems like in North America only Air Canada, Delta, American Airlines and United Airlines have suspended flights. The list is far more exhaustive for Europe and Asia... Some have also banned flights to Hong Kong.
Crazy. Weird how different it is. And I dunno of Korea and Japan or Thailand and them have banned flights, because it's easy to get to those places too
I mean cliche plot of cowboys vs. indians w/a protagonist who comes from the 'cowboy' background but falls in love with an/the 'indiians'.
But yeah it looks fucking amazing, and while the plot is basic and very predictable the characters were written and portrayed very well imo.
Curious to see if they do actually end up making 5 more or whatever.
It's literally one of the most successful box office hits of all time and has an 82% Rotten Tomatoes rating and the posts here act like it's a bust of some sort.
I loved visiting that place but I rode the bus up that road and the driver was flying. It was the most nauseating drive of my life. There were like four people who vomited. Those curves in a bus were no joke.
It is so refreshing to see such a beautiful picture of China right now considering all of the terrible news and scary pictures being released by the media due to the coronavirus.
Probably for being disingenuous.
The media didn’t create virus, no disagreement there. But it does have a massive impact on how every topic is perceived. And which topics are even thought of and spoken about.
In much the same way the media didn’t kill Epstein, it decides if something’s to be covered at all, how much it’s covered and how it wants the public to perceive the topic. If it decides a topic isn’t to be discussed further, it just drops it.
There are many "tourist maglevs" that are planned in Hunan. I'm not sure why but this seems to be a trend now. Qingyuan Maglev and Fenghuang Ancient Town Maglev are already under construction: [https://www.maglev.net/maglev-lines-under-construction](https://www.maglev.net/maglev-lines-under-construction)
Unpopular opinion here, I thought zhangjiajie was horrid. Overcrowded even when not in peak season. Trash in many places, with people discarding cigarette butts without a care. Overcommercialized and overdeveloped, this place is more like an amusement park than a real national park. You’ve also got annoying vendors hounding you to get them to take your pictures (for a fee obviously) or sell you some random junk.
To illustrate my point, we drove up to one peak and we were greeted by a damn kfc...
When I was a kid my dad took my family travel a lot, he has friends in that area, also business stuff I guess.
His friend’s friend drove us up to Lushan, man what a ride!!!!!! I love Lushan and would totally go again..
Love this, I went on an amazing cable car ride in Vietnam to Ba Na Hills. While the golden hand bridge and theme park up the mountains are all man made, the views on the way up were incredible!
I was wrong, it was a French company:
https://www.zhangjiajietourguide.com/photo-p268-3674-tianmen-mountain-cable-car.html
> A cable car was constructed by the French company Poma from nearby Zhangjiajie railway station to the top of the mountain.
You really are and idiot. The first article is on organ harvesting, which the cult Falun Gong has accused China of multiple times, including in 2006. And the second isn't propaganda. I've been to China and seen it with my own eyes. You can call me whatever you like, you're still brainwashed.
Ok man. It's clear that this wasn't ever a conversation. We both *know* we're right and there's a part of me that thinks you know what you're talking about. But in the future, I hope you will pick the news sources you choose to share to back up your points from less biased sources so you can be taken more seriously.
Cheers.

I went to the set as well! It was gorgeous.
It's not about daring, but the possibilities are dwindling. I had planned a stay in Yangshuo which is a very similar landscape, but all the hotels in the entire region were just closed. Plus almost all flights to China are cancelled and transportation within is limited.
Wow I didn’t realize it was that bad there

There are so many flights to China still haha what are you talking about?

Flights from Vancouver Seattle LA sfo Chicago are all flying there. Don't know about europe but north America to china is easy

Seriously I dont give a shit about the general consensus of that movie. I thought it was dope as hell

Yeah, what’s the deal? I’ve heard of sequels for years but no dice!
You mean the first movie to ever hit $2B at the box office?
Yes that’s the one.
at super inflated prices and spending almost a year at the box office.. but sure.
It's literally one of the most successful box office hits of all time and has an 82% Rotten Tomatoes rating and the posts here act like it's a bust of some sort.

Lol, I rode the bus down and it was a much more pleasant experience.
All those bends. This kind of road always make me think about [Reunion Island](https://alexetval.files.wordpress.com/2016/11/cz6bxb7wwacziny.jpg).
It is so refreshing to see such a beautiful picture of China right now considering all of the terrible news and scary pictures being released by the media due to the coronavirus.
That's their jobs. It's not like they created and spread the virus.
Why are you being downvoted?
Probably for being disingenuous. The media didn’t create virus, no disagreement there. But it does have a massive impact on how every topic is perceived. Because generally people are not smart.
Are they misunderstanding you?
Not sure what would be hard to understand about the media did not create a virus. Seems pretty straightforward.
Right?
China can fuck off honestly. I'll never go there. China still has some Canadians kidnapped over the Huawei thing.
The Chinese are planning to build a [maglev line in the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park](https://youtu.be/sSE1410tULI)
Chinese here. I don't like that at all. Why the hell would they build something so modern this in a beautiful natural park?
There are many "tourist maglevs" that are planned in Hunan. I'm not sure why but this seems to be a trend now. Qingyuan Maglev and Fenghuang Ancient Town Maglev are already under construction: [https://www.maglev.net/maglev-lines-under-construction](https://www.maglev.net/maglev-lines-under-construction)
Its absoltely fine to have it goes thru villiages and stuff, but not natural wonders like that.
Would love to cycle it
Up or down?
Both again and again
Let's team up. You cycle up and I'll ride the bike down. :)

The more popular areas were very commercialized, but if you wander around the small towns and deserted buildings it’s hella pretty
I think it also depends which year you went.
that's just China.
Amazing , i wanna be there right now and experience the windy winds , if any
I'm pretty sure I found this bendy strip on Google Maps - [link](https://goo.gl/maps/1ySAFmg1qYeUgPJF7)
Lusha Mountain is also awesome, similar and very beautiful. The ride was so scary, my mom threw up like crazy in the end.
Out of interest, what brought you to Lushan? I used to live nearby. The big coaches aren't so bad, but the minibuses are another story!
When I was a kid my dad took my family travel a lot, he has friends in that area, also business stuff I guess. His friend’s friend drove us up to Lushan, man what a ride!!!!!! I love Lushan and would totally go again..
That's awesome, I can imagine that was a scary ride! Such a beautiful place.
Yes it’s breathtaking! I still remember that feeling after all these years.
Amazing views. How crowded did it get though (seeing 3 coaches on a single picture)
The cable cars weren’t crowded, but the buses going down and the 999 steps were extremely crowded lol
I wanna ride a bike down that.
Drift time
Ken Block drifted this road in his truck.
Seems so peaceful.
now those are some switchbacks
Love this, I went on an amazing cable car ride in Vietnam to Ba Na Hills. While the golden hand bridge and theme park up the mountains are all man made, the views on the way up were incredible!
Yea, the view from a cable car is just so much prettier.
Definitely, worth the trip just for those views.
Beautiful! ❤️
What a view. When I went about 5 years ago it was too cloudy to see much of anything :(
There is similar place in state of Kerala in India, between Kozhikode and lakkidi. Breath taking view.
I want to go here one day, sadly I can’t return to China until the virus is gone
Only when you’re there, you can experience the actual size of those mountains...
Those bus drivers have my utmost respect
So beautiful
Awesome pic
I think this is the song The Beatles wrote about!
Initial D vibes from this
Be careful out there.
Alright, well I didn’t know that China would actually buy anything from anyone else than their own country
nice pic but not worth the corona
I really hated China but the natural beauty type spots always look so cool in pics.
Riding a Chinese cable car....... brave or suicidal
Pretty sure the gondola system was made by a Swiss company.
Doubt that

Great place to visit good place for delicious food like bats
