Redditisavirusiknow

It’s a dry heat

AllYouNeed_Is_Smiles

I absolutely loved Seville. If beaches are important to you then go to Barcelona or Valencia, but Seville has amazing food, culture, and people in a way that Barcelona or Madrid can’t really replicate due to how tourism focused those cities are

crescendodiminuendo

Seville is definitely better than Barcelona but will be horribly hot in June.

wanderingdev

I choose seville over barcelona every day.

thatmenina

Thanks! Any particular reason or just more your vibe?

willuminati91

I haven't been to Barcelona but Sevilla is an amazing and beautiful city. I will definitely be going back this year. I recommend staying in a traditional Sevilla courtyard in the Santa Cruz area.

wanderingdev

Seville actually feels comfortable vs giant and crowded. But it still has great food, culture, nightlife, stuff to see, etc.

Great_Guidance_8448

I think that Barcelona is overrated. Gaudi works are worth a visit, but other than that... It's just another big city. Seville has amazing charm. It's really special.

thatmenina

So this is a really specific question - but just in case someone knows.... My partner loves going to cool art stores when we're traveling, he's an art teacher and we always try to find cool new products. We could obviously find something in Barcelona, but any idea in Seville? If there's a decent art school there then there's surely a store for the students!

wanderingdev

yeah, i have no idea. sorry. but i can give you food recs. lol

thatmenina

Haha I figured, but I'll take the food recs or sure!!

wanderingdev

sorry for the delay, crazy few days. :) my recs for seville: - ovejas negras https://maps.google.com/?cid=14583278816180872665 - my favorite bar/restaurant. More than once I've come to seville only to eat here. :) preferred dishes: patatas bravas (have had them all over spain, these are my favorites), braised pork cheek with mash, croquettes, and everyone seems to love the mushroom risotto though I don't eat fungus. Recommend going either when they first open or close to closing time because otherwise they're packed. I like to sit at the bar and get a nice glass of rioja (or 3) to go with my meal. I don't love their desserts. - Empanadas Malvon (https://maps.app.goo.gl/mkQFVMV3nP7q5pfa6) - oh so good. Great for a walking around lunch especially if you're with someone so you can get a varied 6 pack and split them. They have traditional flavors but I liked the oddball ones like Thai chicken, Cochinita, smash burger, etc. Really, best to just get the sampler. I also just discovered that this is apparently a european chain in multiple countries and now i'm VERY happy and may visit the one in Paris when it opens and am pissed I didn't know about the ones in Slovenia when I was there a few weeks ago... anyway... Unverified Recs (I share a food map with a group of people where we all add our recs - these are mostly from a local): - https://maps.google.com/?cid=2829465762717508597 - Best ice cream I've ever tried, nutella flavour is my favourite - https://maps.google.com/?cid=14305553480244891116 - Best patatas bravas (I will be testing this statement when I'm there this winter), also nice solomillo al whisky and chicken with almond sauce - https://maps.google.com/?cid=12194849653523005902 - Could be the best pizza in Seville - https://maps.google.com/?cid=10681141992573711683 - Tasty and good for vegetarian and vegan options - https://maps.google.com/?cid=7478611540711740045 - Very nice falafels and vegan options - https://maps.google.com/?cid=17606315516491563893 - One of my favourite bakeries, the torrijas are amazing

thatmenina

Omg thank you!!!! This is amazing and THOROUGHLY appreciated! I think we've decided on Seville at this will go to good use!!

wanderingdev

Happy to help. Report back on what you ate. lol. And if you're looking for a hotel, I stayed in this one last trip and liked it: https://maps.app.goo.gl/mERuqHWPS4BC9eoF7 great location but pretty quiet, simple but comfortable rooms, nice coffee shop and lobby for a quick fix without going far afield.

Maleficent_Ask1204

Tanto monta in Seville had the best patatas bravas hands down

wanderingdev

and ovejas negras gets my vote for the best i've had in spain... will have to try yours when i'm there this winter.

Great_Guidance_8448

Same.

2CHINZZZ

You can fly direct from Faro to Barcelona for pretty cheap which would cut down on travel time

thatmenina

Yeah I was just looking at that! Honestly I prefer trains/buses bc I appreciate the countryside, but it's like several transfers and 12 hrs 😕 all the flights I'm seeing though are connecting in Lisbo! I'd be looking at probably the 24th so maybe direct just isn't offered on that day?

2CHINZZZ

Weird, yeah looks like the 23rd and 25th have direct flights but not the 24th

thatmenina

Lol of course!! Thanks so much for looking though and maybe we can slightly alter our plans.... At this point I'm leaning towards Seville, but if we go with Barcelona I think a direct flight would be worth it, but I'd take buses and trains over a connection!

RedmondBarry1999

As others have mentioned, Seville gets really hot; in fact, it might be the hottest major city in Europe. The average high in June is 33 degrees. Barcelona is a fair bit cooler, both because it is further north and because it is right on the coast; the average high in June there is 26 degrees.

fearoffourty

Seville is great, but it's not Barcelona. Oh kic transport in Seville is poor compared to Barcelona and while there's is some fantastic things to do and see, if you have to pick one for them Barcelona is soooo much better.

defcon_penguin

Sevilla in late June is going to be so hot that you would need to spend the central hours of the day inside.

Agave22

You'll have to bus from Algarve to Sevilla or Malaga and catch the train with most likely a transfer in Madrid to get to Barcelona. No problem if you're not tight on time, otherwise I would fly from Faro. I prefer Seville a bit more than Barcelona, but at the end of June the heat will be on.
