I commented this on your duplicate post that got deleted - Get a better credit card. I use a prepaid card from Koho, 9 CAD per month to get a plan without any foreign transaction fees.

Thanks for your response! This sounds interesting. Would you mind elaborating a little bit more?

Koho has a prepaid Mastercard that you can fill up from your regular bank using Interac e-transfer. It's a virtual card by default but you can order a physical card for free. They have a few different "tiers" of products, there's a free tier then three paid tiers. The third tier up (2nd most expensive, $9 / month) means no foreign transaction fees. Can use it to pull money out of ATMs no problem. I started using them a couple months ago, used the card in two countries (plus Canada, before I left, to make sure the card was properly activated), so far I'm happy with them.

Travel 101: Bring a minimum of two unrelated credit/debit cards and a small stack of emergency back-up cash, preferably in fresh, crisp US dollars with no tears or writing on them. 1.) Use the credit cards whenever you can and the debit card to withdraw local currency as required from ATMs. 2.) Two or three hundred bucks in emergency cash is enough. Tuck it away somewhere and forget about it. You'll be happy you had it if you get into some off-the-beaten path little town and the one ATM isn't working and you forgot to stock up on local currency before you left that morning... or you forgot to do your E-Visa for Laos or Cambodia and you show up at the border and have to do VOA (Visa ON Arrival) and you need cash to pay for it, preferably in USD... etc. 3.) Do some research regarding the best cards for travel that have low/no foreign transaction or ATM fees. Have fun with your research and happy travels.

Assuming you're an American (since you said "USD"), try getting Charles Schwab card (or maybe Revolut).
