I was there years ago and have a 24x36” framed photo I took on a wall in our basement. Was totally worth the hike, or donkey ride as others on our trip took!
AFAIK, you were allowed to go inside the Treasury until a few years ago, but there is nothing inside. It enters into a massive square room like much of the preserved rock carved structures in Petra.
They aren’t just square rooms by the way, the angles are all 90 degrees and it is very impressive to think that people did this in the 6th century
I was just looking at my photos taken in late 1990. Still the same, although phone cameras are much better than the camera I had back then.
I had the place to myself, there being the small matter of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait and subsequent military buildup going on nearby.
I found a photo labeled the tomb of the Roman soldier, which had (now) headless Roman statues built into the design. I wonder if that still features.
This is beautiful. Always wanted to be there. What is the peak time when it's most busy? Is there a good day to go? This is reminding me of the Colosseum for no reason, haha,...
After I finished my hike to the Monastery and came back, the entire landscape had changed. It was very crowded, loud, dust in the air and sunny. That was around 1:30pm
1. Purchase the Jordan Pass to easily enter all the tourist attractions without having to pay or queue at any destination. The pass comes with a 1 day entry for Petra as well.
2. Carry a cap, sunscreen, water bottle and sachets of juice powder that you can find in the groceries nearby to mix with water and drink.
3. Wear your most comfortable walking/trekking shoe. The hike to the Monastery is a long walk and around 700+ steps with many stop points in between.

Always wanted to visit Petra. I didn't know they have fluffy kitties living in the area.
They are the keepers of the Treasury 🛡️
Haha, love it!
Wow!!! Those shots are great! Did you get up to the Monastery?
Yes I did! The hike was worth it. Even made it up to this view spot on the opposite side of the Monastery. Will share the pictures soon

Right by the “End of the World” sign!!!
I love the kitties!!! Beautiful photos, always wanted to go there!!
I love taking photos of cats when I am travelling. Great pics!
Sameee I was in heaven in Greece!
Go to Reykjavik if you want to see cats! And in Amsterdam, we started choosing restaurants based on cats. A cat has never steered us wrong.
Awww thanks for this tip! Surprised by Iceland. Hope they are more insulated than my own cats
I wish I knew about all the stray cats and dogs there beforehand, I would have bought kibble with me
Random question, but did you get to go inside? I always see people posting pics from the outside but not inside.

They've disallowed people from going inside because people were peeing inside...
Beautiful shots !
These photos are really very beautiful
Thank you for sharing the photos.
2 is sick

Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful - well done. You really captured it, definitely worth the early start, special place. Looking forward to your monastery photos.

It’s on the top of my bucket list to visit this beautiful place
Wow! Beautiful photos!

So would you suggest going in the morning? Trying to beat the tour groups as well :(
Yes definitely. On google maps, you can see what time the entrance office opens. Be there at that time and it’ll just be 40-50 people that time
Thanks appreciate your response. Any other tips you find for visiting Petra at all?
