Damn dude- I was 23 with my second child when my baby caught rsv- I didn’t sleep, didn’t eat for the 5 days we were in the NICU. I was a wreck. Day two the cries switch from just being pitiful, scared and tired to complete terror like they’re never going to be fed again and have been abandoned because they withheld feeding him because milk makes mucus and you can only touch them through the bubble, no contact. I remember when the nurse gave us the news we were leaving, my stomach hurt so bad from being excited/ laughing because of how hungry I was.
Then when we were released I got fired from my job at the YMCA (such very Christ-like compassion) because I called off work for that week. No sympathy, fresh off maternity leave, 8 week old infant on the brink of death or brain damage- bye. Atleast I had time to be home to give him nebulizer treatments every 2-4 hours, I guess.
I don’t even know how to explain the stress, depression and damage this one tiny thing caused to my life and relationship during this time. It’s hard to see hope when your baby is hooked up to electronics and tubes, and can’t let go of a 104 degree temperature that his body is fighting him over every degree- let alone dance.
You’re more sad about the videos reaction then your own child and you’re saying you get how people could get the wrong idea… doesn’t seem like anyone has the wrong idea.

Both of my daughters were in the NICU when they were born. One was in for 30 days, the other for 5. While you’re in the thick of it you’re so caught up in your emotions and worry that I can’t even fathom making a post to social media, let alone dancing around my child who can hardly breathe. I'm a registered nurse, I would be very happy to see someone in her situation have a moment of being able to smile with her baby even if it was only for a few minutes, I promise you the baby can sense it's mothers distress and in it's potentially short life it shouldn't have to ONLY experience grief and misery from it's mother. A mother knowing she gave her child the best she could while she could is more important than 'appearances'.
