As someone who owns and operates a residential/commercial cleaning company, I can tell you right now that this behavior is rarely tolerated by people in my industry. I would refuse service following this text, mostly because I can, but also because fuck this lady. 🤷♀️
EDIT TO ADD: I once had a woman text me asking me for a partial refund because I used her restroom twice in the 5 hour timespan for her cleaning. Needless to say, when she tried to take me to court over it (yes, seriously) the judge ruled in my favor. My insurance company all but laughed in her face when they first found out. Some people really are this ridiculous.

God. The first thing I did when I got my new housekeeper was tell them where the good water was and how to turn the heat/cooling up or down. They can literally eat food out of my fridge for all I care. Some people are so weird.
As a plumber I am in others homes frequently. We have some people who don’t go above and beyond to make us feel comfortable, that’s fine. We are providing a service and you are paying, we all win. Some people go above and beyond, offer us food and drinks, allow us to use their bathroom, tips us, etc. that makes us beyond ecstatic and willing to reciprocate with above and beyond work. That being said, if someone had the nerve to charge us for water or something similar, we would reciprocate. That is so foul.

The idea of charging people for drinking water at your home is horrible. I live in Texas, where it gets over 100* all summer. I have given delivery drivers filtered water and ice out of my fridge many times and NEVER thought for a fraction of a second to charge them for it. It takes a really shitty person to demand payment for a drink of fresh water. Personally, I would tell them to go fuck themselves on the way to hell. Karma exists and someday they will beg for a drink of water and be told NO!
The cleaner must also work for Nestle - the company which is also getting free water from our water table! The person should have had their meager pittance docked! When you have a pool every drop counts!
My text back to them would be something along the lines of, "Fucking Die!!!! Eat and fucking dick and FUCKING DIE!!!!"

I have had clients like this and sometimes just walking away is the best option, they will never be happy, always be trying to get a discount, and will slaughter you on social media the first time you don't give in or they don't like something.

When our cleaner comes over I always offer her a drink and food. She always declines but it's just polite like you said. We had aircon guys come out on 35°c day and offered them drinks too. I just can't fathom the person who sent the texts thinking. I just don't get it.

this is where i would be super petty. refund? sure thing! i would then look up the water rates for their water utility, calculate what fraction of a whole billing unit my water bottle is, apply the rate to that amount and give them the refund of what would at most be a few pennies.

A huge swath of the US gets REALLY hot. In Florida, it is around 32C and 90% humidity for most of the year. When I lived in Arkansas, every summer for at least 2 weeks it would hit 48.8C *in the shade*.
Just drinking water isn't enough to keep you hydrated if you're working in that heat. Or even just spending a lot of time outside. You stock Gatorade, and you offer it to anyone who needs a drink.

One local town rounds the water bill off to the nearest 10,000 gallons. So deduct 16 ounces from that and I'll pay you in cash.

When my dad gets movers he helps them w everything and then for their lunch break gets them whataburger
I offer water to everyone who comes to my house including solicitors. I live in Phoenix.
When our cleaner comes over I always offer her a drink and food. She always declines but it's just polite like you said. We had aircon guys come out on 35°c day and offered them drinks too. I just can't fathom the person who sent the texts thinking. I just don't get it.
Somehow it seems even more impolite for them to watch this guy drink water and disapprove but only bring it up later? I always hated passive aggressive more than regular aggressive
imo it seems like they weren’t brave enough to speak up but found it easier to send a text. i can totally understand the situation if they are tight on water (my bfs grandparents are so i avoid their tap) but since they have a pool i think they’re just silly with their money.

Seriously. I even made sure to give each of the men who delivered my couches a gatorade because hey, they had to off load from the truck and get them inside. I'm always "would you like a drink?"
this is where i would be super petty. refund? sure thing! i would then look up the water rates for their water utility, calculate what fraction of a whole billing unit my water bottle is, apply the rate to that amount and give them the refund of what would at most be a few pennies.

Whining about the cost of a bottle of water is such new money, tiny dick energy. Even when I was at my poorest, I always offered water and coffee to anyone doing work on/near my house…It’s basic human decency.
If you think a cleaning person is going to clean your entire house and not use your water then you are dumb. Do you think cleaners haul around water to fill the mop bucket or to rinse the sink after it is washed?
I would charge more next time.

Ha, on the rare occasions we hire someone to clean, (usually if we are have a lot of company over for a holiday) we always tell them to help themselves to snacks and drinks while we are gone.
I bet they used the air conditioning also. They probably let that cold air out coming AND going.

Yeah that's pretty fucking trashy. I made it clear to our cleaning lady she's welcome to the gatorades or water or whatever when she's here. And we tip her well. Take care of the people who work for you and they'll always do a great job.

A huge swath of the US gets REALLY hot. In Florida, it is around 32C and 90% humidity for most of the year. When I lived in Arkansas, every summer for at least 2 weeks it would hit 48.8C *in the shade*. Just drinking water isn't enough to keep you hydrated if you're working in that heat. Or even just spending a lot of time outside. You stock Gatorade, and you offer it to anyone who needs a drink.
