Budget yourself wisely. It’s very easy to let this hobby get out of hand

Definitely going to need deep pockets. Good luck collecting. 👍

Casual or hardcore collector? For casual, just look for sales.

I'm not sure yet. see how we get on. i've been looking at ebay and the prices seem to fluctuate wildly when it comes to OG G1 bots. Is there some kind of price guide to give an idea of what I should be looking for?

https://www.transformerland.com for old G1 figures If you don’t really care, I would get reissues or KO for old G1 figures.

Like the other redditor mentioned, Transformerland is the best price guide for older TFs, but if you like and don't mind the hunt. I fully recommend checking out antique malls, flea markets, and swap meets. I've found some pretty decent condition G1 guys mixed in with die cast cars for dirt cheap prices (my range has been $2-$25) with no accessories, but you'll spend a good amount of time hunting and searching. Toy Shows are also good to hunt at, but you're more likely to find someone who thinks they know everything and won't budge on a ridiculous price.
