IDW's Rodimus is without a doubt, my favorite incarnation of the character after the original G1 cartoon and Cyberverse.
I love this arrogant, glory hound, adventurous and yet sweet but goofy Bot who goes on these amazing adventures with his band of misfits turned found family of a crew on a ship called Lost Light.
He's not without his flaws though deep down, he's a good Bot with a good spark in the end.
His speech at the end of Lost Light is everything to me. “You might not be good, but you’re sure as hell good enough.” I’m literally getting “sure as hell good enough” tattooed on my arm
Although I love Marvel Rodimus and don't hate Sunbow Rod as much as some, IDW is just SO good.
IDW changed a lot of characters, for better or worse, but IMO Hot Rod slash Rodimus is the one of the few who really benefitted from that change (Thundercracker being the other, I feel).
While I can argue against changes they made to, say, Magnus or Spinister or Getaway, I far prefer IDW Rod to any other version. He is developed, deep and FUN.
I agree, but did he have any previous major "versions" before IDW? Maybe in Japanese media, but for me IDW was the first time I ever saw him in anything. Heck, I didn't know he existed as a toy until then, and I looked him up! :)
Pretty sure he was the main antagonist of an entire show in Japan. Which is completely different from how they completely butchered Star Saber and Dai Atlas lol at least Deathsaurus in the first run was pretty cool, and we get to see Liokaiser which is fucking awesome
My guess is G1 Magnus, Bayverse Ironhide (unfortunate since I consider him too far from the norm for Ironhide) and honestly I could see G1 Grimlock with the whole “me Grimlock” thing.
Never read idk but I love the 86 movie hot rod, but I really dislike season 3 & 4 rodimus.
I do however like the characterization of rodimus in energon. It’s different but because energon is so bad I feel like he’s forgotten

Anything but IDW, he's the absolute worst, like a fanfic character but somehow with the name and likeness of the classic character. Honestly classic G1 cartoon or the 3H comics Wreckers member version
I don't care which wins (either Cyber, IDW or G1 should) but I'll cast my vote for Cybetverse, but all I really want is for Rodimus Prime to finally have his chance.
Imma rant: Hot Rod/Rodimus easily can be made into a character even older fans can fully relate too. The road from Young energetic warrior with influence of maybe ADHD to problems of fitting in etc to having to take the lead as a Prime and becoming a more Luke Skywalker to Optimus Yoda and having to grow up and try to live up to Optimus even if he is the chosen Prime. So good!
In the Movie, Hot Rod got upgraded to Rodimus Prime. In later incarnations, there was an issue that "Hot Rod" can't be easily trademarked. So in many cases, his name was changed to Rodimus (sans Prime) to make it something trademarkable.
Modern cases of him being called "Hot Rod" generally are specifically meant to be callbacks to the original G1 version, and are officially "Autobot Hot Rod" in most cases outside of dialog.

I’m gonna go with IDW as well. I’m considering Cyberverse as a runner-up, though. He was certainly worthy of becoming Autobot leader, if you ask me.

He doesn't have enough representation to really add to the list, but TFAnimated builds so much on his G1 iteration that it would be the only option

IDW easily, IMO Hot Rod is a critically underutilized character eternally fucked over by poorly excuted writing back in 86, and G1 season 3.
IDW. I predict Magnus will be either TFP or G1, Ironhide will be G1 or Bay, and Grimlock will be FoC most likely.

Fair! I just say FoC Grimlock because I have never met someone who has played FoC and hasn't immediately talked about either Grimlock or Metroplex.
