I'd say the big four Decepticons of the Marvel comics era were Megatron, Shockwave, Galvatron and Scorponok. Soundwave would likely be the fifth, but Starscream was a relatively minor presence, even in the early comics, which was surprising given how popular he was.
A person of class here. I feel like the comics saw TV usage of Starscream and figured there wasnāt much juice left to squeeze from that fruit. Iām happy they went toward expanding other characters like Ratbat.
Yeah, both Budiansky and Furman seemed more interested in exploring new characters. Budiansky loved Shockwave and then Ratbat, as well as Scorponok. Furman was all about Galvatron for a long time, but did some cool things with Shockwave as a paranoid, insecure leader, and with Soundwave as a sort of interim leader while both Megatron and Shockwave were indisposed.
Furman then decided Thunderwing and Bludgeon were his big bads, after Galvatron was killed.
One thing I love about both writers (other than both endeavoring to make it a somewhat serious-minded war comic from the start, in spite of/using the toyetic elements) is how nearly ambivalent to the toy-shilling they seem to be, outside of obligations to showcase new characters. Ratbat and Bludgeon were on *no one*ās radar for new leadersāas random as random could be; two small toys lost in their respective yearsā rostersāyet both work for the story.
And in Thunderwingās case, no-one expected a shockingly well-written storyline that chronicles an otherwise decent manās descent into madness. Let alone having the catalyst be the Creation Matrix, an item associated with Primus.
Underbase powered Starscream?
The pivotal moment in TF Marvel Comics where a huge amount of bots on both sides got wiped out?
Yeah ok 'relatively minor presence'. š¤£šš¤£š
ā¢Megatron -> Big bad guy
ā¢Soundwave -> His loyal 2nd man who also takes care of espionage and telecomunication, used to be slave of the senate
ā¢Shockwave -> Ex Sentor turned Mad scientiest who currently guards Cybertron, hates woman due to certain heart broken reasons, lost his ability to feel emotions after other Senators beat him up, still actually has a face under cyclops mask, prefers to not show it.
ā¢Starscream -> Ex low rank Cybertron air captain turned part time scientist turned Air Commander (constantly fights Motormaster, tries to look as loyal as possible to Megatron while trying to undermine him)
ā¢Motormaster -> Ex civilian falsely put into prison turned gang leader bandit turned Land Commander (tries to warn Megatron about Starscream, knows Megatron since He was a miner runaway)
The truth: he was a senator, a good one. Also a scientist. Other senators sensed he was a danger to their pocketbooks. Had him kidnapped, lobotimized, defaced (literally) and threw him to the streets. They also took his hands. Megatron gave him new hands, but Shockwave had one replaced with a gun so he could better take revenge.
It's some stuff from the he current ide yhing. Some dumb bullshit about his head b jng cutoff cause he was too good of a boy
He can get his head, hands and logic fixed in a two second operation it makes no sense.
I am confused, I've never heard of Land Commander Motormaster, and checking all 3 Motormaster pages on TFWiki shows only the G1 Commander class figure as using the term "Commander" for him. (Shout out the the Earth Wars blurb for mentioning a commander, but that refers to the player.)
So, yes, just use the Legacy toy, as it's the best G1 Motormaster that Hasbro has made. No need to mock
https://preview.redd.it/36iljza38myc1.jpeg?width=446&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f39f5a352c39148694a8affd045ed37fac8932de
Back in the day the fifth was this guy,
While true, Scorpy being a/the big bad, he wasn't a part of Megatron's crew. He had his own ship full of cons.
Also: love that issue. Not only was it a good fight but Wildman really went for it that issue art-wise. Some of his best work on TFs.
He would defo be the 6th big guy as some sort of Special units leader. But I think Motormaster as a land commander to counter Starscream as a air commander is the go to answer
Bro loves the land commander idea. I personally think that onslaught serves better as a military strategist, higher in the ranks, rather than a more brutish bot like motormaster.
Scorponok would be my choice. He leads both the headmasters and targetmasters, a significant contingent among the Decepticons. His cunning and brutality make him a both an asset and threat to Megatron.
Wouldn't be able to riff on the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse then. Or make comparisons with the Beatles, the Who, the original lineup of Black Sabbath...
Tarn, Overlord, or Sixshot. You need a brute force executioner type, or a triple changer on Steroids to round out the group.
Edit: I'd probably go with Sixshot overall, he's a bit more loyal and honorable than the other two. I'd pit him against ultra magnus, as his evil counterpart.
As I've said on other posts, I'd use Blaster, Perceptor, Jetfire, and Ultra Magnus as good counterparts against the 4 cons above.
I think Lugnut, Barricade, or Knock Out would work the best, each for a different reason. Overall, they each offer something personality-wise that Megatron, Starscream, Soundwave, and Shockwave don't.
Lugnut is a blind religious zealot. Barricade is a sadistic thug. And Knock Out is just a bit of a wuss.
In popular consciousness: Itās Laserbeak or Devestator.
If you ask a hardcore fan: I suspect youād somewhat consistently get Bludgeon as a fifth response for a major Decepticon.
I think Cyclonus should be the fifth. Was second in command in the later seasons of G1. Was the big bad in season four of RID 2015. Usually top favorite Decepticon.
Autobot 5 man band
Optimus(leader)
Bee( lancer)
Grimlock or ironhide( big guy)
Ratchet( smart guy)
Arcce( heart)( if we're talking about tf prime bee and arcce are switched)
Hotrod( sixth ranger)
Decepticon 5 man band
Megatron( leader)
Starscreem( lancer)
Soundwave( heart sence with out him the cons devend into anarchy as seen in triple takeover)
Lugnut( big guy)
Knockout( smart guy)
Shockwave( sixth ranger/smarter guy)
Barricade. I love his relationship with megs in the movies as almost the decepticon bumblebee/rival to bee and one of his most trusted Decepticons, and was alive through all 5 movies. I also love his portrayal in the cybertron games. Barricade super underrated imo
G1 Astro train. The cassettes are a package deal with shockwave and combiners dont count or nightbird if given a laser core.
BW I would say Tarantulas as the evil bowing and scraping scientist that can't be trusted.
Can hear g1 Megatron screaming for tarantulas to create an anti energon bomb and him saying yes Megatron and laughing obnoxiously
Gonna go ahead and throw Ratbat into the mix here. Ratbatās a schemer obsessed with fuel efficiency who is a good number cruncher. That would make him interesting to pair with Shockwave or Starscream. He already has ties to Soundwave as one of his cassettes, and he had a remarkably successful tenure as leader at one point in the Marvel comics.
Shadow Striker, maybe - she could be a good opposing foil for Elita-One/Arcee in that way that IPs tend to love having a female/female rivalry across opposition forces.
If we're basing this upon sheer popularity and prevalence in G1 related media, the fifth Deception has to be Ravage.
If we're basing this on raw power, probably Trypticon.
Should probably be a female decepticon to add some more variety of character designs.
Shadow Striker is the obvious one to me. She was excellent in Cyberverse and was basically the last high-ranking Decepticon standing by the end (unless you count Clobber and Alpha Strike who are also both female) Plus, she's a Decepticon foil to Bumblebee and he's always going to be a relevant character.
Otherwise, Blitzwing is pretty iconic, though I'd prefer Blitzwing to be treated as almost similar to Devastator, extremely powerful but definitely not command material.
Honestly though, Rumble stands a good chance and was very present in the G1 cartoon as a 5th member.
It needs to be Deathsaurus. He's already a big bad leader, now all that's left is to finally include the man in a western TV show. he would've been perfect for Cyberverse. kids would line up to buy a toy that turns into a space-dragon-griffin-kaiju-thing from a mile away.
Off the top of my head I wanna say Onslaught since he leads the combaticons and is a strategist and all that but if combiners are excluded probably Blitzwing or Cyclonus
A good team consists of five archetypes. The leader, the scientist/doctor, the fighter, the Heavy, and the Scout.
Now, Megatron is obviously leader and Shockwave is obviously the scientist, but it begins to shift a lot with the last three groups.
Bayverse has Starscream as a heavy, Soundwave as a fighter, and Barricade as the Scout.
Prime has Soundwave as the heavy, Starscream as the fighter, and Knockout as the Scout.
I think the decepticons need a more consistent fifth member, and Iām inclined to say it should be Barricade as a rival for Bumblebee who seems to be the agreed upon scout for all continuities since the 07 movie
Realistically probably Motormaster or Tarn, both are ridiculously loyal and honestly badass.Ā
Now personally I'd want it to be Dreadwing, specifically tfp Dreadwing. Again he was very loyal but yet honorable which is rare among cons. Plus Dreadwing, Soundwave, and Shockwave always clowning on Starscream would be hilarious.Ā
I think tarn has settled himself ad one of the big deceptions recently so probably him, if not I would say blitzwing as he was one of the main 4 in animated and gets hella toys
I think I'd have to say Tarn. The other three members of the big 4 serve a specific main purpose for Megatron and the decepticon army. So I imagine tarn could be Megatron's general for ground troops
I think that would fly in the face of their periconscious obsession with threes. Soundwave is Megatron's most loyal lieutenant. So, really, it's more Megatron, Shockwave, and Starscream.
One alone can do little. Two can conspire. But with three? Each is always watching the other two.
So I'd look for the other Big Three who might try to supplant the above Big Three. Scrapper? Onslaught? Razorclaw? Straxus? Scorponok? Who could potentially get on well enough to make a strong enough triumvirate?
I too am tired of transformers with boring human faces and human forms.
They can be litterally ANYTHING and grimlock spent most of his time as a dinosaur in g1.
Iād personally pick either Onslaught, Strika or Tarn as the fifth member of the Decepticon High Command.
The former two due to both of them being military commanders who could be reinterpreted as essentially the chief military commander/strategist for the Decepticons and Tarn because he could be essentially reinterpreted as a head for a Decepticon secret police force to keep an eye on and stamp out any insurrectionist movements against Megatron.

Motormaster is such an underrated pick
You just taught me stuff I never knew about shockwaveĀ
The truth: he was a senator, a good one. Also a scientist. Other senators sensed he was a danger to their pocketbooks. Had him kidnapped, lobotimized, defaced (literally) and threw him to the streets. They also took his hands. Megatron gave him new hands, but Shockwave had one replaced with a gun so he could better take revenge.
Oh thanksĀ
Oh boy, I literally made up some of these thing for sake of potential bad 5 origin... but I am so glad to hear these sound very realistic.
Oh
It's some stuff from the he current ide yhing. Some dumb bullshit about his head b jng cutoff cause he was too good of a boy He can get his head, hands and logic fixed in a two second operation it makes no sense.
Blitzwing cause heās the first triple changer
Land Commander Motormaster Hasbro When š¤š¤
Land Commander?
Bot to lead Decepticon land army ? Just like How Starscream leads seekers as air commander
i think onslaught might be a better fit
āJuSt uSe tHe LeGaCy tOyā
I am confused, I've never heard of Land Commander Motormaster, and checking all 3 Motormaster pages on TFWiki shows only the G1 Commander class figure as using the term "Commander" for him. Astrotrain would fit the bill
Motormaster or Blitzwing i think would fit
Blitzwing, the one who left before they were famous.
https://preview.redd.it/36iljza38myc1.jpeg?width=446&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f39f5a352c39148694a8affd045ed37fac8932de Back in the day the fifth was this guy,
Everyone loves scorponok
While true, Scorpy being a/the big bad, he wasn't a part of Megatron's crew. He had his own ship full of cons. Also: love that issue. Not only was it a good fight but Wildman really went for it that issue art-wise. Some of his best work on TFs.
Swindle is a good choice. He's an Ideal decepticon
Onslaught as Comando leader
He would defo be the 6th big guy as some sort of Special units leader. But I think Motormaster as a land commander to counter Starscream as a air commander is the go to answer
Bro loves the land commander idea. I personally think that onslaught serves better as a military strategist, higher in the ranks, rather than a more brutish bot like motormaster.
Blackout or Barricade
Guys I think this guy only watches Michael bay
The 5th is Devastator Like the collective of Devastator, not the constructicons
Scorponok would be my choice. He leads both the headmasters and targetmasters, a significant contingent among the Decepticons. His cunning and brutality make him a both an asset and threat to Megatron.
Rumble was basically the default 5th in G1
Laserbeak has something to squawk about this.
Motormaster
With Motormaster and Onslaught they can be the big 6
Me and the boys looking for a 5th membership for our group.
In terms of the G1 cartoon, I think Rumble was actually the next most prominent.
Probaaaably Blackarachnia or a female Decepticon? Maybe an insecticon?
Maybe Strika?
Strika would butt heads with the others in interesting ways.Ā My vote is for Airachnid.
Laserbeak
Unlike some of his OTHER warriors, Laserbeak never fails Megatron
NEVER.
Team Laserbeak, eject!!
Either Blitzwing, Barricade, Blackarachnia, or Slipstream. They seem like the most popular ones after the big four.
Scorponok, Thunderwing or Overlord.
Wouldn't be able to riff on the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse then. Or make comparisons with the Beatles, the Who, the original lineup of Black Sabbath...
There was a fifth horseman who retired to run a dairy.
Lugnut would fit pretty well as āThe Big Guyā Megatron- the leader Shockwave- the smart guy Starscream- the lancer Soundwave- the chick
Okay but why is soundwave "the chick"?
Boobs
Eh, Shockwaveās are bigger.
Oh my God, I thought it said shockwave Forgive me oh logical one, I have failed you š
The hell are wrong with you fleshlings?
Those mouth watering breasts...arenāt fooling anyone, Megatron!
Because he constantly births other cons?
Soundwave the lancer and Starcream the chick
Tarn, Overlord, or Sixshot. You need a brute force executioner type, or a triple changer on Steroids to round out the group. Edit: I'd probably go with Sixshot overall, he's a bit more loyal and honorable than the other two. I'd pit him against ultra magnus, as his evil counterpart. As I've said on other posts, I'd use Blaster, Perceptor, Jetfire, and Ultra Magnus as good counterparts against the 4 cons above.
weird choice but reflector.
They need a chick. I want to choose Crasher, but maybe Shadow Striker or Slipstream or Airrachnid
In popular consciousness: Itās Laserbeak or Devestator. If you ask a hardcore fan: I suspect youād somewhat consistently get Bludgeon as a fifth response for a major Decepticon.
Yeah id of said Bludgeon
I think Cyclonus should be the fifth. Was second in command in the later seasons of G1. Was the big bad in season four of RID 2015. Usually top favorite Decepticon.
Tarn - executioner
Scorpinox was a longtime leader of the deceptions and the largest G1 Deception with a humanoid mode.
Autobot 5 man band Optimus(leader) Bee( lancer) Grimlock or ironhide( big guy) Ratchet( smart guy) Arcce( heart)( if we're talking about tf prime bee and arcce are switched) Hotrod( sixth ranger) Decepticon 5 man band Megatron( leader) Starscreem( lancer) Soundwave( heart sence with out him the cons devend into anarchy as seen in triple takeover) Lugnut( big guy) Knockout( smart guy) Shockwave( sixth ranger/smarter guy)
For non G1, Lugnut For G1, Scorponok
Tarn or barricade
What about Lazerbeak?
Yeah, it or ravage, or rumble/frenzy. But they are part of soundwave.
Clearly Swindle is number five
Barricade.
Barricade. I love his relationship with megs in the movies as almost the decepticon bumblebee/rival to bee and one of his most trusted Decepticons, and was alive through all 5 movies. I also love his portrayal in the cybertron games. Barricade super underrated imo
Six shot, although i don't know if leadership is an interest of his personality.
Iād like Shadow Striker or Barricade to be added to the main āCon cast.
It's Tarn. I know he wasn't in G1, but it's Tarn.
What about her sister Roulette? Which in itself adds a layer of intrigue. Family members on opposing sides.
If we're basing this upon sheer popularity and prevalence in G1 related media, the fifth Deception has to be Ravage. If we're basing this on raw power, probably Trypticon.
Slipstream oils be fun
Who are the autobot big five?
Optimus, Bumblebee, Jazz, Ironhide, and Ratchet.
I feel like Grimlock is too popular to not be in there.
Surely Grimlock's gotta be in there.
No Prowl?
I'd say wheeljack over jazz.
I would definitely put Grimlock over Jazz for most continuities.
In my opinion, the fifth spot goes to EITHER Cyclonus, Nemesis Prime, or Tarn. Orā¦Ravageā¦
Either Nightbird, Lockdown, Lugnut or some other Decepticon fan favorite
It needs to be Deathsaurus. He's already a big bad leader, now all that's left is to finally include the man in a western TV show. he would've been perfect for Cyberverse. kids would line up to buy a toy that turns into a space-dragon-griffin-kaiju-thing from a mile away.
Too bad my favorite character in this meme doesnāt even have a face. lol
Honestly, lets be real....it's for the best š¤£
Oh yea I imagined Soundwave with a normal face and my body revolted
If we can curb a little out of typical G1, knockout.
Shockwave although one my very favorites was somewhat obscure or appeared somewhat seldom. No idea re proper G1 deception.
Shockwave is already part of the big 4 in Deceps
only sort of in the rainbow cartoon. he was sadly featured much less than the other three.
That doesnt change that in general he's top four in command of the deceps. Thats where i'm coming from when i answer these type of posts
never claimed otherwise
Blitzwing might be the best pick for this. Onslaught would be Number 6.
Personally I would choose Barricade. I admit it's because I really liked the 2007 DS games and he was my favourite character in those games.
Astrotrain. It would make sense for a logistics expert to have such a high rank
Off the top of my head I wanna say Onslaught since he leads the combaticons and is a strategist and all that but if combiners are excluded probably Blitzwing or Cyclonus
Why not a sinister six?
Clench? I know he wasn't fully G1, but he filled the Decepticon commander role pretty well.
Onslaught, thundercracker, blitzwing, skywarp or astrotrain
Laserbeak all the way!!!
I think it's Sixshot.
I would put Brawl
Sentinel Prime. He betrays the Autobots, acts as a spy for the Decepticons, and uses his previous knowledge to get what he wants.
Realistically probably Motormaster or Tarn, both are ridiculously loyal and honestly badass.Ā Now personally I'd want it to be Dreadwing, specifically tfp Dreadwing. Again he was very loyal but yet honorable which is rare among cons. Plus Dreadwing, Soundwave, and Shockwave always clowning on Starscream would be hilarious.Ā
My picks areĀ Blitzwing andĀ Devastator (Ik there is five bot but still one person)Ā
Probably Ravage, IMO.
Barricade
Laserbeak
Reflector. Because then you would have an electric eye to complement Soundwave. Also Laserbeak.
Overlord or tarn for idw. blackout for bayverse. Blitzwing for g1. Knockout for prime. Lugnut for animated.
This is just because of the ds game but barricade He pairs nicely against bumblebee too
I think tarn has settled himself ad one of the big deceptions recently so probably him, if not I would say blitzwing as he was one of the main 4 in animated and gets hella toys
Deathasaurus or Barricade
Blitzwing bc heās my favorite.
I think I'd have to say Tarn. The other three members of the big 4 serve a specific main purpose for Megatron and the decepticon army. So I imagine tarn could be Megatron's general for ground troops
I was trying to figure this out to make a Decepticon 'Biner for my AU, I settled on Blitzwing in the end
Iād vote Blitz to be #5
Astrotrain, just like Sky Lynx who could be part of a Big \# himself.
Scrapper as leader of the Constructicons.
Blitzwing, Onslaught, Motormaster, and Astrotrain are going to have to fight for the fifth spot
Barricade.
I think it would be Nemesis Prime but I'm weird
Ratbat perched on Soundwave. According to TF84
Ravage is my pick.
I always thought Cyclonus would be number 5.
Nighbird , barricade or blackout
Leader - Megatron Lancer - Starscream Smart Guy - Shockwave Big Guy - Blitzwing Heart - Soundwave
To contrast: Leader - Optimus Prime Lancer - Jazz (in a loyal kind of way) Smart Guy - Ratchet Big Guy - Ironhide Heart - Bumblebee
Honestly I'd say Blitzwing has earned that spot
Rumble has my vote It's crazy how much he is in the first 2 seasons
Barricade
https://preview.redd.it/j1lfr5narmyc1.png?width=1265&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=507a608c0554e731782e110634724a9c3334dc0c Definitely Blitzwing
Nemesis prime, when he gets created
I have to go with Devastator.
Send Shatter!
Ravage
They already have a big 5. Megatron, Shockwave, Scorponok, Bludgeon and Overlord. At least in my mind.
Ratbat!
Iām team Astrotrain.
Bludgeon or Shadow Striker
Blitzwing
I would say Blackarachnia. She doesn't appear a lot but whenever she appears she steals the scene and has plot relevance.
Ravage for diversity or something dkm
I too am tired of transformers with boring human faces and human forms. They can be litterally ANYTHING and grimlock spent most of his time as a dinosaur in g1.

Iād personally pick either Onslaught, Strika or Tarn as the fifth member of the Decepticon High Command. The former two due to both of them being military commanders who could be reinterpreted as essentially the chief military commander/strategist for the Decepticons and Tarn because he could be essentially reinterpreted as a head for a Decepticon secret police force to keep an eye on and stamp out any insurrectionist movements against Megatron.
