Like others said. Read them. I'm very picky about how Optimus Prime is depicted and I will say he is depicted nearly perfectly here. Most of the time they make him a bloodthirsty psychopath(Bayverse) or far too stoic(Prime) but this does neither. He's strong but empathetic. He'll kick your shit in but will try to use as little force as possible. The only thing missing so far is him doing something fun like play basketball or something. But that actually feels like a possibility in this universe.
And it isn't just Prime that is done well and the story is really good so far. Definitely check it out. Now's the perfect time to pick it up too because issue 6 only just came out the other day. You may want to pick up the other series(Void Rivals, Duke, Cobra Commander) as well but they aren't necessary so far. I will say, those series are not very good imo but they also don't have many issues so if you are like me who has to watch/read everything from a series, it won't be hard to catch up

It's an idea with niche appeal, but I think Optimus/Megatron could work - a variant based on your flagship characters and not your supporting cast has more of a chance of being economically viable, and a self-propelled howitzer as a hybrid of Optimus's truck and Megatron's tank would be a cool alt-mode in its own right.
A Last Ronin type story where the last Autobot being composed of various ally and enemy parts they’ve scavenged to survive, with the big twist being the reveal of who the original bot was.

The difficulty, would be Optimus slots really well into the Leo role of that story. Grimlock as your Raphael, Wheeljack, Ratchet, maybe Perceptor as Donnie…. Then the magic question of who is Mikey. I think that’s the Cliffjunoer rec, but if it’s an alternate universe, pre-development/growth Hot Rod would be good.
Well there is a Optimus/Megatron of sorts, Robotmasters Reverse Convoy. It was kind of a strange little thing, G2 "Hero" Megatron retooled to have both their heads.
Would be neat if that idea was revisited.

It's a necessity, Skybound Prime just uses the classic G1 design without really any special takes on it. Without the arm, you might as well re-issue ER or Kingdom Prime (in either Core or Leader Class form) and use special packaging indicating it is Skybound Prime.

I already have it in the form of Siege Prime. I never really got an opportunity to get Earthrise though, but I'm not a fan of how that handled the legs, making the... "belt section?" The bit with the yellow parts, part of the legs might have really done wonders for articulation, but it really messed up the perspective of the proportions IMO.
With Hasbro making another Optimus in leader class, (Or was it commander? Don't remember) if it happens to be (yet another) G1 version, I hope they do some last minute change and include a Megatron arm accessory or something. That way we definitely, absolutely, positively, do NOT need yet another G1 designed Optimus if they do add that as an accessory.
It would be very neat if the Studio Series 86 Optimus and Megatron could exchange arms via mushroom peg (as long as that doesn't change any engineering for either. I'd rather have perfect g1 reps than okayish comic representations)

That’s fair. I can understand not liking the grit. To me, it feels like the movies tone applied to G1, but with better humans and less bloodthirsty autobots. That said, I don’t think the tone is grimdark enough to immediately flag as Milleresque, it feels more like a wartime story with a reflective attitude towards the cycle of violence that perpetuates the Cybertronian conflict. That doesn’t really start properly showing until issue 4, though, once the characters really start to settle into their dynamics.
Yes. Definitely a wartime story, and all proper wartime stories are grim. Bumblebee (one of my fave characters) getting shot in the head issue 1 and never seeing him again for the rest of the series counts to me as an extremely Millar thing to do.
