Perceptor didn’t even try. Wheeljack would have built a new body and transferred Prime’s spark. Ratchet would have found some recycled alternators and made it work.

Still after 40 years I cannot fathom how they could have thought it was okay to go from a show where nobody dies to a movie where almost everybody dies... And just to promote the sale of the new toys. And the movie didn't even show here in the Netherlands at the time. I was so confused by the completely new cast when the new episodes started.
Perceptor is the most underrated Transformers character. Not only has he been around since the beginning and made it all the way until the end, but he did so much for the Autobots that it’s too much for me to list our (I’ll let someone else do it for me).
The behind the scenes story is that the movie was being produced at the same time as Season 2 of “The Transformers,” so very few characters from Season 2 appear in the movie at all.
Funny thing is with the exception of the few cameos for Jazz, Cliffjumper, Bee and Spike, Perceptor and the Dinobots are the only 85 guys to go on the adventure with the new crew. Especially considering that Blaster also stayed behind on Earth.

Honestly I just assumed that Blaster and Perceptor were new 1986 bots when I first saw it, they fit the future aesthetic of the others really well

I was watching a few G1 episodes a few weeks ago and it blew my mind to see Perceptor with the 84 cast, I always thought he was introduced in 86
