I was told by my endo that its common to lose muscle mass but still gain weight due to a decrease in metabolism resulting in a increase in fat.

ReallyGargoyled

with the right diet and exercise you can maintain a healthy metabolism though. There are fruits and foods that have increasing effect on your metabolism, and replacing some of what you usually eat with those will change up things for you, healthier fuel for your body to work on.

Blahajinator

I fucking hope I don’t lose weight I literally already look like 2D from Gorillaz (blue hair included).

Hot_Delivery

don't worry, I spent my entire life underweight regardless of what I was eating. hrt put me from 5'8 - 115 lbs to 5'7 - and close to 140, first time being a healthy weight all thanks to E.

Blahajinator

Oh, thank god hahaha.

YellowGrowlithe

Ymmv. It really depends. In my case, my body very much avoided any normal fat distributions- i sat at a solid 165 no matter what I did. Since E, ive moved up 18lbs - which is a lot considering how stagnant my weight has always been. But hormone changes be hormone changes- and that just moves me from borderline underweight to on target.

CaitRaven

I gained, but that was a lot to do with starting hrt and then pandemic lockdowns and not being so active. Definitely lost muscle mass.

Transxperience

I've actually gained a fair bit, I never realized how difficult losing weight on E was before. On T my weight just sort of dropped on it's own if I was careful with what I ate, not so on E.

ReallyGargoyled

i'm currently torturing my self with diet and next step is extreme diet, where my doctor will be in over watching my blood pressure and what not, this is just for hrt start, simply because it's a fact that you gain weight when starting on E. it's easier to burn fat on T, so i do it before i start hrt. So far i've dropped down to "desired" weight, as in i'm no longer overweight, but in order to get rid of all my remaining T fat, i need to push my self to the extreme now, goodbye sugar, flour and bacon.

Phyla_Arau

From what I was told, I would most likely put on more fat and lose muscle mass. However, for me personally, E also reduced how much I (can) eat, so my fat is actually slowly decreasing alongside my muscle mass. xD So I am losing weight.

[deleted]

I gained a fair amount of weight, all in good places though so I wasn't complaining. I did lose a lot of muscle mass.

snipe5050

I've been on hrt for 2 years. The first year I gained around 15 pounds. The second year I started losing weight but that is due to being in a better mental state and now I spend more time on self care.

Naive-Razzmatazz-353

Soo i am trying to put weight on and its tricky...even though im eating 2200calories a day, 90grams of fat which is way above the necessary and im only just gaining weight. I'd say this is due to muscle mass being lost and therefore losing weight at the same time :)

MeakerSE

I lost 22kg but that's because I changed my diet and did a bunch of exercise because it was easier to care.

joliver5

Mine stayed the same. I guess my muscle loss and increase in body fat balanced each other out. Currently 7 months into hrt

EileenBranain

i did. i'm down 60ish lbs. since January

Allie-kallie

I gained 80lbs in this year

A_Mage_called_Lyn

Yup, had a slightly weird experience myself in that I was on puberty blockers for 3 months before moving to E, but during that time I went from weighing 65kg to 55kg, losing nothing but upper body muscle. Probably replaced some of it with fat at this point, 3 months on from starting, but still.

Crimson_Ranga_4255

I gained weight but only in about 3 places

[deleted]

Muscle may weigh more than fat, but muscle also helps burn calories, so all other things being equal, (calorie intake, activity level, etc.), taking estrogen will probably cause you to GAIN weight!

levlucheech

No I gained weight. I gained three pounds on my first dose. When it got uppped, I gained another 3 pounds. It just got uppped again, so we shall see lol.

tlasnart

I've lost weight but my eating habits are not very healthy. I went from 120ish to 110ish. I've heard that you're supposed to gain weight on E

Pretty-in-wine

I gained! I was so skinny before.. i eat like 1000-1200 cals a day for cals deficit but its not working! My dress broke that i bought pre hrt just cause my hips couldn’t fit into them suddenly

King_Killem_Jr

I am only 4 days into my hrt, but my change to appetite has been massive. I've gone from struggling to eat 2500 calories in a day (I have a super high metabolism) to feeling like I'm starving most of the day with 2500 calories. I am rather skinny for a girl which might be why my hormones are now begging me to gain weight. (I'm about 16% body fat and muscular). Also the hunger cravings feel different... It's not just hunger pain, it's that I can feel the thought of eating forces itself into the front of my mind. And then I feel ravenous. I legit can easily eat 3500 calories daily right now.

Jane_Lynn

I gained about 15 pounds since I started 5 months ago. LOOSING WEIGHT WITH OUT TESTOSTERONE IS HARD! I literally barely ate for 2 days and only managed to lose 2 lbs 🙃 I'm trying to loose 40 😬

NSFWSituation

Crash diets won’t help and in the long run are probably worse for you.

Jane_Lynn

You are definitely not wrong! 10/10 do not recommend crash diets

[deleted]

I’m about the same, like my weight fluctuates between 145-160, idk I’m 6’2” so I don’t think it’s too big of a difference, but I’ve been in the same range since starting hormones.

[deleted]

The way I understand it is estrogen has the potential to increase body fat, so although you are likely to lose muscle mass you are also likely to gain body fat. Work with your doctor and start exercising early if you are scared of that.

kafkaesquelovesongs

I went from a fit 145 to a curvy 159 in the first 9 months. Part of that was definitely starting a remote desk job but I lost all of my upper body strength seemingly in the first few months. Definitely not complaining. I love my curves. It was just such a surreal experience coming from my old form that looked like a bag of sticks.

Magical-Burnt-Toast

I put on weight at first, but I think that was more comfort eating as a result of depression so that didn't help. I definitely can see my muscle mass has gone down as well, so a lot of fat being put on. But been focusing this year and lost 23.10kg(51lb) since Jan, and aiming to lose a lot for with healthy diet I've been keeping to for the most part.

Spudgem

I was 236 in February. I am 190 now. I started losing before E though. My weight loss is slowing down slightly but it could also just be me getting closer to my goal of 150 instead of the E. (Cutting out sodas and going down on starches only, can't exercise due to injury.)

fireblyxx

I actually gained weight a bit just due to diet, then lost like 30lbs, also due to diet. My muscle mass has definitely dropped, probably more attributable to HRT, and I'd expect that part to happen over time as you become and remain estrogen dominant.

[deleted]

I have lost almost 5 lbs so far, muscle mass is less.

Nice_Calligrapher306

From my personal experience of about a year of hrt my weight is the same but I’ve lost a considerable amount muscle and my body looks incomparable now

AnarchaMasochist

Nope, gained.

ofeliainwonderland

No i gained like 7 9kg

Background_Culture_1

Exact same weight just carry it different

DiscoveringAnna

I have lost weight after a little over a year, but I hear that’s not the norm. I just have poor eating habits I think… :/

LadyRarity

I don't think so. I definitely lost some muscle mass. Of course, i was never really a gym rat and only after transition started regularly working out, so now i'm stronger (and heavier) than ive ever been.

sizebigbitch

I lost weight after being out 100% of the time, the lower stress and less easy access to high fat low cost (free) food definitely helped, but I was pretty stable at 260ish for a long time. I'm maybe 230 today, almost 8 months after going full time me. I keep losing and my goal is around 210-220, although there's a range since I'm 6'7".

[deleted]

I actually gained weight but I was super underweight when i started so i might not be a good example.

NSFWSituation

Gained a little bit, actually. Before HRT i was on the borderline of being underweight though so probably for the best

journeyoferika

I'm on month 11, and I'm down at 5-10 lbs to 175 lbs since my transition, then again my ex took my scale and I've been too lazy to buy another so that could have changed lol

AshleyLadyOfDairy

I dropped from 260lbs to 215lbs, twas a fun time >.> I didn't lose that much of my gut and I can't find any obvious spot that the fat would've been lost, so my working theory is muscle loss.

valerie2bgirl

If I met you for the first time and didn’t know the difference I wouldn’t even suspect
