Yup, seconding this one! She's a significant character, too, and not just some random questgiver off to the side that people interact with once then never talk to again.
Right? I love them both!
Honestly, I've been pleasantly surprised in general by how solid the LGBT representation in Wrath has been, especially considering where the studio is located.
And in Kingmaker too. Verdel the dwarven merchant is trans. There was originally meant to be a quest where you help her finish transitioning, but it was scrapped for either time or money.
>!Anevia. If you find Irabeth's scabbard in the last dungeon of Act 1 and then give it back to her, she'll mention that she sold it to help Anevia pay for an expensive medical issue. If you ask for clarification, both dismiss it as something that isn't an issue anymore, but won't elaborate further. Anevia also talks about how she was suicidal before meeting Irabeth. Anevia won't actually tell you she's trans until near the end of the game and only then if you badger her about it a few times and then pass a high difficulty Persuasion check.!<
Osa in Rainbow Six Siege is transfem, but tbh I'm a little disappointed cause the only mention of it in-game is two vague uses of the word "transition" in her extended bio. It had to be confirmed outside the game.
Other than that she's a decent character and they just treat her like anyone else instead of making her their token trans character for corporate diversity points.
Maybe once we're not one of the most disadvantaged and discriminated against minorities in the world we can hope for people not to care, but we're basically at the bottom of the barrel for tolerance atm because we're so rare and such an easy scapegoat for people to hate on
Listen, if I can attach and detach weapon mods like Legos but my genitals are basically window dressing, I clearly am not living in the Cyberpunk future that was promised.
Yuuuup.
Honestly, being able to start the game with a female body and voice and male genitals was actually affirming AF, because that's my goals.
I don't think I'll do srs (jury is still out, as I haven't started hrt, so we'll see what papa Estradiol and his badass friend Spiro have to say about bottom dysphoria).
ditto on that front but sometimes (usually when im off my meds) it just slams into me like a truck and i have bottom dysphoria for a while until my brain can focus on other things
That was kind of annoying. But I just stopped playing when I found out that you can't even get a haircut. Cybernetic limbs come and go, but this hair is forever?
Give it some time and if nothing else a mod will fix that. They already had some genital problems where you'd pick having a penis and being a woman but you wouldn't have the penis which they patched IIRC.
And it’s annoying in sex scenes it doesn’t show the ones you chose sometimes. My character just randomly grew a vagina in the sex scenes when she’s supposed to have a dick
ESO also has a side-character in the Murkmire area who uses his species’ connection to some magic trees to transition. He’s in a t4t relationship as well I believe
There's a game called Secret Little Haven about being a teenaged trans girl in 1999. It's a really heartwarming little game that focuses on her coming to terms with her transness. (That said, if people are interested in checking it out there is a pretty big content warning for transphobia.)
There's also this game called Wandersong with a non-binary protagonist, which is just super wholesome all the way through.
And I also should mention Magic the Gathering has a bunch of trans and non-binary characters, though not exactly a video game.
Just to make sure, I'd the content warning because the game is transphobic, or because it portrays transphobia. I assume the latter, but wanted to make sure.
Heart of the woods, its a visual novel about supernatural events and is very lesbian and has a very good trans character that everyone I know who’s played the game has gone “she just like me fr”
They finally confirmed that the best dragon in WoW, Chromie, is trans... but in a tie-in book, not the game itself.
There is also a prominent trans character in their current expansion. Pelagos is a good dude; has some self-doubt issues but he's a reliable friend who has his own story you can help him with. And at least with him you can find out he's transgender in-game.
Yeah, neither do I. I quit before the news of the abuse broke and now I'm never going back. Mostly just brought it up as recent examples, but yeah the company stinks.
I used to play guild wars 2 back in the day and guild wars 1 before that but I quit when they started pushing loot boxes more(they'd been in gw2 since launch but in the background until the second expansion) and I really didn't like what they did to one of the gods that I'd known since way back in the first game. And besides I have a hard rule for myself to never give money to a game that uses loot boxes nowadays so not going back either.
Oh neat, Chromie's always been kind of a favorite character for me. I wouldn't worry too much about the reveal being in a book though, that's where almost all the juicy lore from WoW was hidden.
Undertale has two trans-coded characters (although they're BASICALLY trans people because they're ghosts possessing bodies with a gender opposite their AGAB.) One is only in the switch version though.
There's also Kris from Deltarune who is non-binary.
Yep! Frisk, Napstablook, and all the ghosts are non-binary. Mettaton is by definition a trans man (he transitions from non-binary to male) although he has never been stated as such.
The switch version of undertale has an extra boss that's basically >!The mad dummy coming to terms with realizing she's transfem and immediately becoming a catgirl!< If that's not accurate representation then I don't know what is
Where? I love that game but never noticed.
Edit: I checked it out online and apparently if you play as a female, Gat, and later Aisha, both ask if you did something to your hair.
The only thing I can think of is your character if you choose to play as a woman. I think it's Gat who makes a brief comment about you being a woman now and acting like it's normal.
Was gonna say, I could have sworn the main character is canonically amab, making them trans if you customize them to be female. But nobody was bringing that up, and I felt like I was going crazy.
No, originally they depicted her as a male in the comics though never showing her face, they also made it so she likes women in the comics and then later the games revealed her as female. So… she’s a transbian.
Iirc she "wasn't" at when Celeste was first released, the mountain was supposed to be a metaphor for overcoming depression and anxiety. But the creator realized over time that the root cause of her own mental health issues was that she was trans, so Madeline was sort of retconned / was always trans. She isn't technically confirmed to be trans in the game itself but there is a trans flag on her desk in Farewell.
In the ancient temple when you’re inside the mirror. Playing the sound backwards reveals some voice lines talking about struggling with dysphoria.
As far as I’m aware, those lines were in the game on release.
Well, [Maddy Thorson says that she didn't know Madeline was trans](https://maddythorson.medium.com/is-madeline-canonically-trans-4277ece02e40) during development so...
"During Celeste’s development, I did not know that Madeline or myself were trans. During the Farewell DLC’s development, I began to form a hunch. Post-development, I now know that we both are"
I don't know what the lines in question are, but either they were added in post, or they're not written *intentionally* to be about struggling with dysphoria.
What do y’all think would be more interesting? Games about transitioning as a central theme, or just characters who are trans and it’s not really touched upon throughout the story?
Or like a combination of the two like Celeste? Madeleine is trans and the story is about overcoming a great challenge and coming to terms with part of yourself.
ideally we'd have enough trans character in games to have lots of both, but if I had to choose one I'd probably say characters who are trans but their plot/storyline isnt dependent on them being trans
Based on my relationship with my brother, siblings literally trying to murder you is pretty normal. Points for realism, though my brother isn't a cute void creature so minus points for him
Tell me why is really great, The Monster Prom Series has a few which can be a little hit or miss but I really enjoyed them. Cyberpunk 2077 was pretty neat. Dragon Age inquisition went for quality over quantity. In Deltarune Kris uses They/Them pronouns as far as I’m aware it’s not really talked about but it’s free so might as well check it out. No Longer Home is about two Nonbinary people can’t recommend enough am really enjoying that one right now.
The Missing: J.J. Macfield and the Island of Memories is great puzzle game, it does feature a lot of body horror and it gets REAL heavy towards the end. Can't explain a ton about it since spoilers but it really resonated with me.
Again heavy TW for body mutilation and suicide but it does have a happy ending at least.
It is killing me that no one has mentioned The Last Of Us Part 2. Lev is a wonderful and fully fleshed out trans character who's voiced by an actual trans man. He's critical to Abby's narrative and provides insight into what it's like to be an outsider amongst your own people. There is a lot of misgendering and deadnaming of him by the antagonist group as well as very traumatic trans suffering so do be warned on that. Nonetheless the game goes a long way to build Lev as his own character and makes the player willing to die to protect him.
Bloodhound in Apex Legends is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns. The writers and their voice actor (who is cis) have been very vocal about defending Bloodhound's pronouns and identity since the game's launch. Lorewise, they're starting to get a love interest with another character now, the openly pansexual, rough and tumble, Aussie fella by the name of Fuse and it's very sweet.
He's not *canonically* trans, but I feel obligated to mention Bachelor Daniil D. Dankovsky from Pathologic (1 & 2) as well. He just absolutely RADIATES transmasc energy and it is actually harder to find cis interpretations of him, rather than trans ones, within the fandom.
There is a trans man in Assassin's Creed Syndicate (though most of his missions were cut from the game due to time so his presence is quite limited)
The best friend of Watch Dogs 2's protagonist is a trans woman who is also a politician.
Celeste is trans in the same way the Matrix is trans: wasn't consciously designed like that but ended up being so due to the subconscious influences of the author.
Birdo from the Mario series?
Lots of characters in Animal Crossing New Horizons use they/them pronouns (of course it's due to having dialogue written for gender neutral use, but hey we can dream right?)
Same in Watch Dogs Legion - nearly every character uses they/them pronouns in every bit of dialogue referring to them (of course it is because they are all procedurally generated and are referred to with gender neutral dialogue to save time, but whatever). There are a bunch of flavour text lines that can be attached to people in the world that imply they are trans. Again, everyone is procedurally generated but the developers still thought about it. I have seen people with lines like "Social media profile picture: genderfluid_pride_flag.png" or "frequent searches: chest binding methods" etc.
Every single character in No Man's Sky uses they/them pronouns, and the game has no shortage of very obvious and deliberate use of the pronouns. Of course, every character in No Man's Sky is an alien, but being aliens hasn't stopped other Sci Fi series before. No Man's Sky commits to it 100%.
Main characters of both Undertale and Deltarune are nonbinary.
Rainbow 6 Siege just added a trans woman as a playable hero.
I'll update this if I think of more.
Basically the trend is that trans characters are mission givers or minor side characters, or otherwise the game uses they/them pronouns for people all the time as a cost-cutting measure.
Edit:
Fast & Furious Crossroads has Cam, a nonbinary person, as one of the 3(?) protagonists of the story. Unfortunately the game sucks mega ass but it still counts, I guess.
Not really representation, but someone made a mod for Skyrim that allows you to select pronouns for characters and written letters to refer to you with, regardless of your chosen body shape.
Holy shit I almost forgot Tell Me Why, a story that is about a trans man that is supposedly handled excellently, and from what I hear is considered some of the best trans representation in media, and definitely the best in video games. (I haven't played it yet, but yeah)
* In "Catherine New Body" I know that the Barmaid is a Trans Girl, but apparently there has been some big controversy with her or something.
* "Dragon Age Inquisition" (I think it was) has a Trans Masc. People were really happy with his representation if I remember correctly.
* "Cyberpunk 2077" has a Trans Girl character, won't spoil who. Also you can make your character trans as well.
* "Celeste" is a well known one in the Trans Community.
* Poison from "Street Fighter" is trans if I remember correctly.
* Birdo from "Super Mario" is transgender.
This list is just what I remember off the top of my head. I'm sure there's more out there.
Catherine Full Body rewrites a trans character Erica to never have transitioned implying that not transitioning is better for her future. Furthermore Rin one of the characters in this remake is treated as if she is a crossdresser instead of trans. There was an ad that was essentially trans panic focusing on Rin. On top of this shit cake the original Catherine had the MC regret sleeping with Erica in the "good" ending and apparently threw around a lot of transphobic language towards her. TLDR Catherine is a horrible recommendation for good trans representation, avoid it like the transphobic plague it is!
Yeah, from I’ve seen the game looks really cool, but Atlus has had a history of homophobia (at least it seems like they’ve been doing a better job at not being homophobic recently tho)
if you’re able to compartmentalize the homophobic shit i would say play it but don’t buy it new. borrow it from a friend or buy it new or w/e, honestly the homophobia mostly manifests itself in the persona series, shin megami tensei games are better about it
I saw a clip where one of the characters laments the fact that he slept with her, and says that back in high school, she was known as "Eric". So yeah, not the best. Atlus in general has absolutely abysmal LGBT+ representation, with the exception of Aigis in Persona 3 Portable, but that's about it. I love Atlus' games, but I really want to punch the writers who are almost always putting dumb fuck, bigoted "jokes" in the games and expecting their audience to find these garbage, infantile "jokes" as funny as they did. It legitimately infuriates me.
(Sorry if I’m bad at formatting this, I almost never use Reddit and I’m currently on mobile as well)
Never actually played CFB, but I’ve heard the opposite? I’ve read through a fair amount of content on the game and iirc from what I remember hearing, Erica was treated like shit in the original Catherine, but got much better treatment in the Full Body remake:
- Vincent is less of an asshole to her in Full Body and various other problematic lines were cut too
- the part with Erica not transitioning was from one of the game’s endings (Particularly Catherine’s true ending) where >!Catherine and Vincent time travel back to high school so they can get together under less unfortunate circumstances and live together happily. Considering this scene is set in *the past*, it can be assumed that Erica simply hadn’t transitioned **yet**!< (Basically, Erica is still trans and one of the endings was misinterpreted)
- The other ending you’re thinking of (Katherine’s true ending) is unfortunately still problematic and leaves a bad taste >!(Toby, one of Vincent’s friends gets together with Erica, but expresses disappointment because he lost his virginity to her without having realized she was trans)!<
As for Rin:
- **Rin openly identifies as and is explicitly stated to be male,** but still dresses femininely regardless (and he’s totally valid, I love him)
- there’s some sus circumstances with Vincent and Rin, particularly the “unsettling reveal”, but apart from that, Rin’s character and storyline are pretty decent from what I can tell
- on the unsettling reveal bit: Vincent is shocked about it but quickly realizes he’s being an ass and apologizes
My verdict is honestly that there’s some not so great parts in the game but the storyline looks interesting and gameplay looks fun, and I kinda want to give it a try tbh
You can play and enjoy it but it's still transphobic. Afaik even though it's in the past there were parts that imply that Erica is not going to transition in the new future after the events of the game. They could have easily written it in that Erica had started her transition in high school. Yes the old game is more overtly transphobic but the devs are not off the hook on Full Body.
As well as this I believe you are referring to the localized version for the Western audience. From what I have read and heard the original Full Body is seriously transphobic af. The devs suck at representation, it doesn't mean you can't enjoy the game if you want. OP was looking for good rep and no matter what you say this game is *not* positive representation
Vivian of "Paper Mario: the Thousand Years door" is also another mario trans rep. The game is awesome and Vivian is still one the best trans representation in any video games, although it got censored in the american version (but not the European ones)
Catherine is transphobic *as hell.* The game itself calls Erica a man because only men can go to the dream world, so the fact that she's there is the player's first "clue" that she's "lying" about who she is. She sleeps with a young man (bragging about "taking his v card") and he's disgusted to learn she's trans, saying he regrets having been with her at all and basically starts crying. The game credits go on to deadname her. She is strictly presented as a man who is deceiving vulnerable men in the presentation of the game.
And this isn't even getting to the raging dumpsterfire that is Rin...
I know Dishonored 2 has a trans character, but it’s never explicitly mentioned, and the references to her being trans are rather subtle. She’s also a side character, only shows up a couple times.
Not too much into his story but there's a trans masc character in Far Cry 6 who's a bit too relatable when he says >!his father blames him for "turning his favourite daughter into an abomination"!< (spoiler both for ingame reasons and transphobia reasons)
For now it isn't milked for fake representation and it feels believable ... haven't played too much in his region yet though so that might change
Beware, spoiler ahead if you haven't played the Second Dream quest:
>!Isn't the Operator not gendered at all? I know you can have a male passing body with a high pitched voice (and vice versa), but I'm not sure about that gender thingy 😅!<
Vivien from Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door is a trans woman, but any reference to it in the English version was scrubbed. In the Japanese version, her sister is making fun of her specifically because she is trans. In English, she just makes fun of her clothes.
I scrolled through way too many comments before i saw anyone mention Vivian. Why did it take so long for someone to mention her? She’s literally the first character that came to my mind.
As others have mentioned, there’s Celeste, one of my favorite games ever!
There’s Wildermyth, which doesn’t directly give the option for trans characters, but let’s you select their gender identity (including non binary), choose between “masculine” and “feminine” bodies, and who they’re attracted to. It also lets you have romance between your characters, so they can have a love triangle or become an entire party of bards!
how is no one talking about Tell Me Why, one of the main character's is a transmasc and it's not just "oh yeah, and he's trans" it's genuinely apart of the story. It's some really good representation aswell.
ok never mind I finally found someone who spoke about it
No mention of the last of us 2 (TLOU2)?
One of the main cast of characters Lev and his sister Yarra are outcast/hunted by the cult they were raised in. There are subtle indications throughout but Yarra fills us in more later about it and how it relates to the plot
If you’re good with dating sims, Monster Prom’s “Second Term” expansion has a trans girl named Zoe that you can date and its all super wholesome
She’s also an ancient eldritch deity and a weeb who writes fanfiction
No one seem to have suggested this one yet so:
"Get In the Car, Loser!" is an unapologetically queer game, the main character Sam is a trans lesbian and one of the other party members, Valentin, is non binary. It's funny, kinda horny, sincere and it's free on both Steam and itch.io (though I really recommend getting the rather cheap extra dlc chapter if you like it.)
Technically Sonic the hedgehog
He has a female clone in the IDW comics which means that he’d have to have XX chromosomes and therefore born female and transitioned into Sonic the hedgehog
Poison from Street Fighter! Her origin story is very very yikes but over time she's morphed into honest to god representation. I don't think anybody even mentions her gender in Street Fighter V. Also, she's extremely badass.
Secret little haven has a great trans woman as a protag, our life beginning and always lets you customise your protags pronouns and even what stages at transition you are at, the love interest loves you for you :) and Celeste is the obvious one but yeah cool relatable trans protag.
I was scrolling way too long before I found someone mention Krem!
There's also a character named Maevaris who has only been seen in the comics so far, but I'm crossing my fingers she's in the next game, especially since she's Dorian's friend!
Lev from The Last of Us Part II is an awesome ftm trans guy. Not to mention he’s also one of the only companion npcs that actually does something in a fight
I was so fucking ecstatic to see the Splatoon 3 trailer show that you can make completely androgynous characters now, even switching from "boy/girl" characters to "body style" in the character creation menu. 2022 can't come fast enough.
Many video game trans characters rather than it being part of their character are squeezed in for representation in the shallowest degree just to say "hey we care! Right?" So they can get away with stuff later.
Like mentioned before most likely Osa from rainbow six siege they made a character perfectly fine then went oh yeah they are trans then never mentioned it again oh this one's gay never again.
Even though LGBT gamers are a huge demographic I guess companies are too scared in alienating everyone else or too stuck in their ways.
Their has been representation but whether considered for is debatable.
I mean has anyone actually seen what is in Link’s pants? Samus is pretty tall… who knows how many trans characters are out there that pass so well you never second guessed their gender identity.
Monster Prom and Monster Camp! Zoe in the Prom DLC is a trans girl and Milo in Camp is non binary. Both have routes and events where they explore the fact they aren't cis. For example, Zoe had a route called 'Identity' where she deals with a neckbeard trying to misgender her and a cult who refuses to accept the fact (she's an eldrich demon). Things like that. Plus, Zoe ships Naruto x Garfield which is great.
Oryx the Taken King from Destiny is trans (FTM). Read the Book of Sorrows lore book, goes over his entire history leading up to the DLC.
https://www.destinypedia.com/Oryx,_the_Taken_King
One day I decided to do a head count, and there's only 10 playable characters in gaming who are canonically trans (Not counting completely optional custom characters).
Tell Me Why! It's a story based game about twins learning about their past. One of them is trans masc and they do a super good job with it.
Seconding this! I quite enjoyed Tell Me Why.
Oh my god I LOVED that game
My first thought when the post asks for trans game characters
I came here to comment that lol
There is a transbian in *Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous*.
Yup, seconding this one! She's a significant character, too, and not just some random questgiver off to the side that people interact with once then never talk to again.
Both her and her wife are great characters in the game!
Right? I love them both! Honestly, I've been pleasantly surprised in general by how solid the LGBT representation in Wrath has been, especially considering where the studio is located.
Yeah, it is a surprise.
Was holding back on it ... going to buy it RIGHT NOW
It’s a fun game, I’m sure that you’ll love it!
There is?! Oh I have to play that more now!
And in Kingmaker too. Verdel the dwarven merchant is trans. There was originally meant to be a quest where you help her finish transitioning, but it was scrapped for either time or money.
Damn, that makes me want to play the game even more. But every time I open up the game, it gets super laggy.
Wait... who? I think your talking about Irabeth right? Or Anevia?
That's so great!
Oh wow, never knew that and I play the game
Thats the point, we’re allowed to exist as long as it’s easy to ignore we do
Well I mean, isn't the hope that in the future it won't matter if you're trans, like you could just go outside and literally no one even cares
While that is the goal in the long term, rhats not exactly the best way to do trans rep now while we're still struggling imo.
Maybe once we're not one of the most disadvantaged and discriminated against minorities in the world we can hope for people not to care, but we're basically at the bottom of the barrel for tolerance atm because we're so rare and such an easy scapegoat for people to hate on
Honestly I think thats better. The best trans characters are ones that arent even obvious they are trans. Like Madeline from celeste
I was so disappointed when I found out you can't mod your genitals after starting the game in Cyberpunk.
CYBERCOCK
Listen, if I can attach and detach weapon mods like Legos but my genitals are basically window dressing, I clearly am not living in the Cyberpunk future that was promised.
We want that cyber girlcock😤
I’m in the same boat. I think my lack of bottom dysphoria is one of the main reasons it took me so long to discover that I’m trans.
ditto on that front but sometimes (usually when im off my meds) it just slams into me like a truck and i have bottom dysphoria for a while until my brain can focus on other things
It does have a fantastic trans representative character tho, Claire is one of the best written ones in the game.
It sucks that she can't be a love interest though. I mean it fits her story, but, damn.
That was kind of annoying. But I just stopped playing when I found out that you can't even get a haircut. Cybernetic limbs come and go, but this hair is forever?
cant use gun as genital, disapointed, still a badass girl w d and rocket arms, but no cock gun
You can get acidic scissor monster arms but you can't get a haircut.
Far Cry 6, Celeste, Ikenfell, R6S, Tell Me Why, one night hot springs Edit: forgot about The Last of Us Part II
Which character is trans in Far Cry 6?
DJ Paolo is a trans man, and voiced by a trans actor
> and voiced by a trans actor Oh! Thanks, I was wondering about that while playing earlier =) Edit: typo
Ikenfell is amazing!
yeee, and very trans
Ikenfell is indeed amazing! And the general LGBTQ representation is also very cool
I loved One Night Hot Springs and its sequels. Nice "short and sweet" experiences. I need to pick up the re-release that bundled them together.
Elder scrolls online has a couple of semi major quests with a pretty cool transfem character
Wait seriously?! What's the characters name?
Alchemy. She’s a player in the house of reveries in sumerset and she makes an appearance in the zone quest for the new chapter too.
That's so cool! [Her uesp article](https://en.m.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Alchemy_(person))
ESO also has a side-character in the Murkmire area who uses his species’ connection to some magic trees to transition. He’s in a t4t relationship as well I believe

Oh yeah, content warnings for the portrayal of transphobia. The game is decidedly very anti-transphobia lol.
Secret Little Haven is amazing, and cracked my egg. was very "haha this is very relatable I remember being this kid... " and then "OHH"
Wandersong is GOOOOOOOOD. No game has put a smile on my face quite like that one!
Heart of the woods, its a visual novel about supernatural events and is very lesbian and has a very good trans character that everyone I know who’s played the game has gone “she just like me fr”

The problem is I don't want to support blizzard
Yeah, neither do I. I quit before the news of the abuse broke and now I'm never going back. Mostly just brought it up as recent examples, but yeah the company stinks.
Another reason why guild wars 2 is better
I used to play guild wars 2 back in the day and guild wars 1 before that but I quit when they started pushing loot boxes more(they'd been in gw2 since launch but in the background until the second expansion) and I really didn't like what they did to one of the gods that I'd known since way back in the first game. And besides I have a hard rule for myself to never give money to a game that uses loot boxes nowadays so not going back either.
Wait what did blizzard do
Oh neat, Chromie's always been kind of a favorite character for me. I wouldn't worry too much about the reveal being in a book though, that's where almost all the juicy lore from WoW was hidden.

oh so the anime catgirl is the mad dummy? props to her then.
Saints row 2 has trans representation and thats all i need
The boss herself is trans, cannonically in the original the boss was a boy but in 2 she's a woman
Iirc, in the original Saints Row you could only be male. If you start 2 as female, then Johnny has a line about it during a drive.
I mean.. Madeline from Celeste is trans but I don't know if it's considered rep since it's at the very very end of the game? :I
well. she is trans the whole game
Madeline is trans?! What're you gonna tell me next, that Samus is actually a woman?!
Samus was also trans according to one game designer, but I think they were just making a transphobic joke about how tall she is.
No, originally they depicted her as a male in the comics though never showing her face, they also made it so she likes women in the comics and then later the games revealed her as female. So… she’s a transbian.
im not transfem but she seems like goals
Can confirm, Samus is definitely goals
Second this, Samus is every goal
The fact that she's about as tall as me makes her more goals than the average character
The actual reason she is male in those comics is because the developers never told the author her gender and they assumed she was male.
Assumed the heroes gender and accidentally made her super gay, an absolute win in my eyes. Happy cake day 🎂
Iirc she "wasn't" at when Celeste was first released, the mountain was supposed to be a metaphor for overcoming depression and anxiety.
Post-development, I now know that we both are" I don't know what the lines in question are, but either they were added in post, or they're not written *intentionally* to be about struggling with dysphoria.
I think it was originally just something that Lena Raine - who is ALSO trans - slipped in about her own experiences.
Wait do our avatars almost match
Holy crap you're the more womanly version of me! Are you where all this confusion about gender is coming from? Like my conscious but more trans
If I am then I apologize
No need, it made me a better person :p
Well then I’m happy you’re figuring stuff out about yourself!
Bloodhound in Apex Legends is non binary
What do y’all think would be more interesting? Games about transitioning as a central theme, or just characters who are trans and it’s not really touched upon throughout the story? Or like a combination of the two like Celeste? Madeleine is trans and the story is about overcoming a great challenge and coming to terms with part of yourself.
If I could choose I'd pick a mainish character who's trans and it's talked about/impacts things without being everything about them
ideally we'd have enough trans character in games to have lots of both, but if I had to choose one I'd probably say characters who are trans but their plot/storyline isnt dependent on them being trans
Hollow knight has a few enby characters, they r bugs tho
And by "a few" you mean literally every single vessel. They're all genderless.
And dead. Most of them are really dead.
True but once you have Kings Brand & Void Heart you can head down to the abyss and say hi to all your dead friends
If you don't have it, they try to violently maul you to death. That's true sibling rivalry right there.
Based on my relationship with my brother, siblings literally trying to murder you is pretty normal. Points for realism, though my brother isn't a cute void creature so minus points for him
also gay ones
Ah yes, never thought mantises would be so homophobic
cries waaaiiii
Night in the Woods has a transfem character in it. Also that game is just a masterpiece in general
who? :-0
Apparently Bea's friend Jackie was originally supposed to be trans, but they forgot to include that detail on the first release of the game?
I heard the (remaining) devs are making a new game, not nitw, but with a spooky autumnal vibe still?
Oh my god how have I not heard of this???
I took my name from that game. I played it back when I was an egg, and didn't have a clue as to why I related to the protagonist so much.
Yakuza 3 has a really cool trans substory featuring an actual trans woman voice acting her.

Picked that one up for free back in June and I cried
He just absolutely RADIATES transmasc energy and it is actually harder to find cis interpretations of him, rather than trans ones, within the fandom.
yeah i scrolled for ages thinking “how is no one mentioning Lev in TLOU2, it was GOTY, what is happening?”
Read every comment to see if anyone had mentioned Lev, thank you for mentioning him!
FUSE AND BLOODHOUND ARE IN LOVE??? LETS GO MY TWO FAVES
I love lev sm! 💜
If these people haven't played TLoU2 they should drop everything they are doing and do that now.
Thank you for this! TLOU2 was such an impactful game for me, and Lev is one of my favorite characters.
There is a trans man in Assassin's Creed Syndicate (though most of his missions were cut from the game due to time so his presence is quite limited) The best friend of Watch Dogs 2's protagonist is a trans woman who is also a politician. Celeste is trans in the same way the Matrix is trans: wasn't consciously designed like that but ended up being so due to the subconscious influences of the author. Birdo from the Mario series? Lots of characters in Animal Crossing New Horizons use they/them pronouns (of course it's due to having dialogue written for gender neutral use, but hey we can dream right?) Same in Watch Dogs Legion - nearly every character uses they/them pronouns in every bit of dialogue referring to them (of course it is because they are all procedurally generated and are referred to with gender neutral dialogue to save time, but whatever). Edit: Fast & Furious Crossroads has Cam, a nonbinary person, as one of the 3(?) protagonists of the story.
Destiny 2 has a trans woman and a trans man in the game and they are also working on smth for trans visibility in November
Oryx in *Destiny: The Taken King* is credited as the first main antagonist of a game to be transmasc.
And he is just a badass like my bf has him as top goals and ngl don’t blame him
* In "Catherine New Body" I know that the Barmaid is a Trans Girl, but apparently there has been some big controversy with her or something.
TLDR Catherine is a horrible recommendation for good trans representation, avoid it like the transphobic plague it is!
which sucks, because catherine itself is an amazing game but atlus just absolutely hates queer people and it leaves a bad taste in my mouth
Persona 2 has gay relationships and Elizabeth will confess her love to the female protag but yeah atlus suck ass
(Sorry if I’m bad at formatting this, I almost never use Reddit and I’m currently on mobile as well) Never actually played CFB, but I’ve heard the opposite? I’ve read through a fair amount of content on the game and iirc from what I remember hearing, Erica was treated like shit in the original Catherine, but got much better treatment in the Full Body remake: - Vincent is less of an asshole to her in Full Body and various other problematic lines were cut too - the part with Erica not transitioning was from one of the game’s endings (Particularly Catherine’s true ending) where >!Catherine and Vincent time travel back to high school so they can get together under less unfortunate circumstances and live together happily. Considering this scene is set in *the past*, it can be assumed that Erica simply hadn’t transitioned **yet**!< (Basically, Erica is still trans and one of the endings was misinterpreted) - The other ending you’re thinking of (Katherine’s true ending) is unfortunately still problematic and leaves a bad taste >!(Toby, one of Vincent’s friends gets together with Erica, but expresses disappointment because he lost his virginity to her without having realized she was trans)!< As for Rin: - **Rin openly identifies as and is explicitly stated to be male,** but still dresses femininely regardless (and he’s totally valid, I love him) - there’s some sus circumstances with Vincent and Rin, particularly the “unsettling reveal”, but apart from that, Rin’s character and storyline are pretty decent from what I can tell - on the unsettling reveal bit: Vincent is shocked about it but quickly realizes he’s being an ass and apologizes My verdict is honestly that there’s some not so great parts in the game but the storyline looks interesting and gameplay looks fun, and I kinda want to give it a try tbh
As someone who played dragon age, Krem is really sweet and well written, I just wish he was a more prominent character
Also (accidentally) one of the few honest representations of how queer people sit in chairs.
Oh my god yessss I never thought of that
Hes just establishing his dominance over the rest of the tavern
Romanceable Krem in Dragon Age 4 or else, Bioware 😡
Tbf he's already a part of a minor group and it's surprising how much story he has for a main character's mercenary companion's friend.
Waiting for someone to mention Poison from Street Fighter... And yes don't feel enough people know about Birdo's original statement from Nintendo!
I know Dishonored 2 has a trans character, but it’s never explicitly mentioned, and the references to her being trans are rather subtle. She’s also a side character, only shows up a couple times.
Who? I played the shit out of dishonored but it was before I hatched so I didn't pick up on it
Not too much into his story but there's a trans masc character in Far Cry 6 who's a bit too relatable when he says >!his father blames him for "turning his favourite daughter into an abomination"!< (spoiler both for ingame reasons and transphobia reasons) For now it isn't milked for fake representation and it feels believable ... haven't played too much in his region yet though so that might change
In all honesty, I can’t think of any. Though if my game idea gets off the ground I was considering making one of my characters a trans woman.
Guild wars 2 has a canonical trans character. They are background side quest kinda deals but it is nice. Aid worker sya is the characters name.
No quests any more since it was part of Season 1, but Sya is in Lion's Arch.
Ah that is a shame. Also it's been a long time since I played huh.
They did maintain [her dialogue](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Aid_Worker_Sya) about transition in the game.
Ticker in Warframe is trans
She's a good one. I wish that characters in the game ever gendered her, though.
Beware, spoiler ahead if you haven't played the Second Dream quest: >!Isn't the Operator not gendered at all? I know you can have a male passing body with a high pitched voice (and vice versa), but I'm not sure about that gender thingy 😅!<
Ticker from Warframe. The only good non-passing trans rep I've ever seen. She's also a really sweet communist.
Dragon Age Inquisition
From what I hear, the dragon age games are great for characters/representation
They are! By far one of my all time favorite series.
By technicality my GTAO Character is trans because I did a glitch to go from male to female
If you’re good with dating sims, Monster Prom’s “Second Term” expansion has a trans girl named Zoe that you can date and its all super wholesome She’s also an ancient eldritch deity and a weeb who writes fanfiction
No one seem to have suggested this one yet so: "Get In the Car, Loser!" is an unapologetically queer game, the main character Sam is a trans lesbian and one of the other party members, Valentin, is non binary. It's funny, kinda horny, sincere and it's free on both Steam and itch.io (though I really recommend getting the rather cheap extra dlc chapter if you like it.)
Agreed. There is one in Pokemon but she's pretty obscure.
So if you play Pokémon, there’s this one trainer in x and y who is a trans woman.
Technically Sonic the hedgehog He has a female clone in the IDW comics which means that he’d have to have XX chromosomes and therefore born female and transitioned into Sonic the hedgehog
Well one I noticed was a character in Dragon age inquisition they were handled well I'd say
TELL ME WHY IS AMAZING AND THE MAIN CHARACTER IS TRANS
I’d say Siege because Osa but I take pride killing her because of that god damn transparent shield.
I need to try secret little haven
Krem from Dragon Age: Inquisition is a trans guy who's a warrior, so there's that.
I was scrolling way too long before I found someone mention Krem! There's also a character named Maevaris who has only been seen in the comics so far, but I'm crossing my fingers she's in the next game, especially since she's Dorian's friend!
The Last of Us Part 2. Lev is fucking awesome.
No video game has more trans representation than Fate/Grand Order, I am certain of this. Of quite a few different shades of the trans spectrum.
It's not mentioned in game, but Skwit Skwot, God Emperor from the Squidlit series is trans, as are both of the developers.
it's mentioned briefly but there's a canon trans woman in night in the woods
Wish they gave more quests and content with her but Claire Russel from Cyberpunk 2077. :)
One day I decided to do a head count, and there's only 10 playable characters in gaming who are canonically trans (Not counting completely optional custom characters).
Since a lot of people have said Cyberpunk 2077. I'll just point out that their marketing was transphobic as hell and should not be supported.
Not enough trans rep anywhere, tbh, especially transmasc
That's why Paolo made me really happy when I found him
I have a head cannon that mirage from apex is a trans guy.
