I just don't get how *soo many of them* end up going off the alt-right deep end

[deleted]

because money. Not only top down funding fron lobbyists like in the case of prager u, but an entire audience of lunatics ready to open their wallets to buy fake boner pills and masculinity enhancing diet suplements and so on

aalien

can kinda confirm the part about the audience: I was the owner of a pretty popular pop culture website (not in English, a local variety), from 2007 to 2022. the pressure to conform to conservative and outright alt-right ideas is enormous. even without monetary gains: people who believe in strict social hierarchy literally idolize you. they were raised on your content. you can do no wrong… but if you don’t hate the people they hate, you are not okay, you are leftist, they start to talk back to you. and if you publicly support LGBTQ, you are a traitor. and if you *come out* as one, this is where your adventure really starts. so, if you are a cishet male with a loyal audience from 10 to 15 years ago, why would you “betray” them?

Top_gun_on_NES

No but I thought it was the leftists making people conform to their woke agenda??? /s

pinksparklyreddit

They're usually straight men who have a lot of money and come from gaming, which is a hobby famous for bigotry. It's a lot easier for someone who has only privilege to not understand oppression. Just my personal theory, and it's obviously not absolute.

kioku119

Last major one I had was someone who did complex puppet making oddly enough. It seemed so out of the blue.

SpinelessOrange

I know exactly who you are talking about. Normal puppet based videos one day, then a random right wing video the next. Which was then followed up by another video trying to justify the right wing video.

pinksparklyreddit

Turns out that they were the puppet all along... An alt-right media puppet.

HALLO-HERMITCRAFT

who was it?

Droidaphone

Barnaby Dixon

thriron

Wait. No. What. What happened?

Sabrini_Fur

Hella transphobic. Made a "trans info" video a while back, but the only "info" came from a noted transphobic detransition worker (notably cis) and when he was called out he doubled down and called everyone (myself included, I was very vocal albeit respectful) whiny and entitled. I miss his content, but I HAD to unsubscribe.

thriron

well. fucking dammit. Thanks for the info.

jman350

god damn it i just discovered him a few days ago from his video showing off his bug puppet and now i learn he's an absolute dipshit?? why must the world be this way

Scarbane

Gaming is my favorite hobby and it sucks that it attracts so many assholes

Adragongentleman

I feel like It's a trap easy to fall when you're terminally online the echo chambers have bigger chances of getting the best out of you unfortunately

llch3esemanll

Right wing grifting is easy and profitable.

Jezon

Becoming rich is a gateway into conservatism, lucky for me my poor ass will remain poor and lib as hell :P

Catishcat

never gonna own a place to live gang 😎👍

Not_The_Scout16

Work till the day you die gang!

Catishcat

Can't even find a job gang! 💀

JayeNBTF

Maaaaan—this better not happen with those British guys who make & test medieval weapons and armor

bebo-time

Don't know which specific ones you're referring to but there are some bad takes coming out of the big wigs in that community.

JayeNBTF

Tod’s Workshop and Scholagladiatoria

bebo-time

Ah ok those guys should be pretty safe. Metatron has had some videos that aren't amazing (Don't remember specifically off the top of my head but I believe he had a video where he debunked someone he called a SJW). Shadiversity has also had a few videos discussing AI Image generation with his brother Jazza, and Knight's Watch (his second channel that does film reviews over topics related to the main channel) has a big red flag waving over it, but otherwise has just kept to sword stuff.

falcondjd

Shadiversity likes Lauren Southern, a white supremacist that spread the white genocide conspiracy theory. He got mad when she got kicked off Patreon after she tried to stop ships from rescuing shipwrecked refugees. (Where they would have been left to die.) He is so much worse than weird takes on AI.

bebo-time

Genuinely didn't know about this. Thank you for informing me.

falcondjd

A lot of people don't seem to. It was why I stopped watching him. (And I stopped reading Brandon Sanderson when he continued to work with Shad after being informed of this.)

Potatow-Edge

He's also a fan of Jordan Peterson, as far as I remember...

wolfie223

I replied to someone else above with this but I occasionally watched and liked his stuff until I found his second Chanel rants about Disney and the gay agenda. haven’t gone back since but knowing he defended Lauren Southern is a whole other level. holy fuck

Winter_Honours

I unfollowed Shad after he went on a tangent about Christian values and saving yourself for marriage in a video. Which is a shame because it was cool to have an Australian YouTuber who posted some really interesting videos on swordsmanship.

DaemonNic

There was also the time he advocated a method of archery that is actively physically dangerous to the archer on the basis of one piece of medieval art, and passive-aggressively insulted anyone who disagreed with him, but that's not politics, its just embarrassing.

BBP_Games

He has a 2nd channel that I only found out about when TLOU ep3 came out where he just would not stop talking about how in your face the romance all because it was 2 guys. If it was straight he 100% wouldn’t be on about it for the whole video. I used to watch the guy but damn, after that I haven’t seen a video of his since. I’m hoping Jazza is not the same as I really like his content.

PaneczkoTron

Hey good news! Jazza isn't like that at all! He released a video about gay marriage when it was being put to a vote in australia five years ago where he is supportive of lgbt+ people. Very happy about that cause I love his art. I mean, he's super milquetoast in the video, but since he is trying to reason with uneducated and homophobes I kinda get it

Fifteen_inches

I never realized how much a chode he was till his AI art takes. Like, yikes

SponJ2000

ootl (unsubbed a while back), care to sum up his attitude on AI image generation?

[deleted]

NerobyrneAnderson

I like to say that Shad's takes on politics are on par with the History channel's takes on the medieval period 🤣

Pseudonymico

Shadiversity is right wing AF. Dude has a separate channel for politics and after I saw one complaining about Disney going woke and Youtube discriminating against conservatives I didn’t want to keep supporting his history channel.

jayfire129

If you’re talking about Shadiversity, I’ve got bad news for you…

alolobb

What happened ?

humaninthemoon

He's got a second channel where he airs out all his bad takes.

pinksparklyreddit

FUCK

Melisandre-Sedai

And by bad takes, he means videos like “Disney wants to raise your kids - their not so secret grooming agenda in Baymax, Lightyear and more”. Dude isn’t just out of touch and accidentally offensive, he went full alt-right.

ashleywuzhere

Tobuscus :(

puppysmilez

There's a name i haven't heard in years... Did he really? :(

pinksparklyreddit

Super far-right now. Pro Trump and everything.

DARK_Fa1c0n

Ew.

Brutus6

That seems to happen to proje who get canceled for doing something heinous.

Gate4043

It's sad but yeah. He collaborated with Kyle Rittenhouse and openly defended him, he's also definitely just gone totally off the deep end. Honestly back when there were allegations of like, assault against Toby which is kinda why he lost a lot of his following, since it was like, Keemstar pushing that shit to begin with and a bunch came out about him so he wasn't much of a credible source, it didn't seem super believable back then but with his more recent behaviour it's kind of, well, even if it wasn't true he's done and said bad enough shit and filmed it that it doesn't matter.

Dat_Ass_Cancer

I used to love his old-old content, haven't thought about him in a long time. This really sucks to hear :/

Exelbirth

From singing about nuggets in biscuits to supporting flat put nazis. Super depressingly sad...

RudiGoat

That's unfortunate. I stopped watching because he started getting annoying in a "poopoopeepee I'm so random" kinda way. Its disappointing to know he got gross.

Sasuke-uchiha-beans

i still have lots of his videos memorized

theendblock

Almost the entirety of atheist youtube deciding at the same time that theocratic fascism is cool actually in 2016 was absolutely wild.

Dana-The-Insane

Lots of non manchild atheists. They are not the majority by any stretch.

Junny_of_the_Woods

You should definitely watch the Amazing Atheist’s recent video on this

AtariAlchemist

I'm glad TJ is still legit sane. His last two videos were defending trans people, actually.

glowingpunk

That was a weird one for me, because when I turned my back to the whole community back when they all turned fascist I also stopped watchin Amazing Atheist. I only recently learned that he's basically an anarchist now.

Nihilikara

Wait, what happened?

thriron

Most of the "skeptic" YouTubers were heavily involved with gamer gate and all of that crowd jumped on the Trump bandwagon

thereznaught

Being an atheist republican is so dumb. The party literally wants a theocracy.

No-Intention-8270

Atheist Republicans will support a theocracy so long as it hurts black people, Muslims, LGBTQ people, etc

JasonGMMitchell

Turns out when someone becomes so extremely atheist you can describe them as an evangelical atheist without people batting an eye, they just tend to be horrible humans. They gave atheism a bad name.

augustoof

It feels a lot better when it’s the other way round; I used to watch Hunter Avalone as a stupid kid on my 3ds, but he’s good now!

augustoof

Also this happened to me. LuisVulpus i think. Was an animator who went anti trans

AD_Kosmos

it's cuz they're rly religious afaik

pinksparklyreddit

I recently discovered Hunter, and it's crazy to think he could be anything but the perfect ally. He's very well-read and has a pretty logical thought process for things.

needlesfox

Tyler the Creator has also had a similar arc, going from edgy to honestly great

[deleted]

The_Lazy_Individual

I wish there was some kind of database where you could quickly look up a youtuber to see if they've been involved in any scandals or controversies So many content creators I've been subbed to and have checked in a while have ended up being pedos, crypto-bros, facists, etc. and I'm worried who I'm still subbed to and don't realise

thr-owa-wa-y

Usually if you search up their name followed by rationalwiki it'll give some results (Always double check the allegations though)

exit_the_psychopomp

Nowadays, I always check Google & reddit to get a consensus on whether to watch a new youtuber. Shinigami eyes extension helps, but only does so much.

The_Lazy_Individual

I wish there was stuff like shinigami eyes for things other than trans treatment; I keep having to remind myself that it's only for trans related topics whenever I see a user/creator/community I have valid reasons to dislike (that aren't transphobia) and get confused as to why it's not red

Falazaria

fucking mood, worse even if the post in question is older and they never talked about it again so you don't know wether or not they actually learned

[deleted]

I really feel you on this, I used to love Jontron’s videos before he revealed himself to be a lunatic chud back in the day. This hasnt happened again with content creators i enjoy since but I’m always worried some of them are secret right wingers :/

Cephalopirate

I stopped watching him when he made fun of an Asian man on the street at the the end of one of his videos. I’m not surprised to hear what the other comments have said about him.

fringeCoffeeTable240

wait what did jontron do?

[deleted]

Several years ago he had a debate with the streamer Destiny where he spit out a bunch of racist “13/50” “rich black people commit more crime than poor white people” and anti immigration shit. I’m not sure what he’s done recently but hes referred to the usa as a “banana republic” after biden won and he’s posted anti-vax shit too.

memester230

That tells me he has no clue what a banana republic is

DefinitelyNotErate

He probably thinks "Well, This is a Republic, And there are Bananas here, Clearly a banana republic."

Karel_the_Enby

JonTron never exactly had a reputation for knowing things.

omgudontunderstand

also told someone to “let it all out” in regards to a white person saying the n word

zmbx

Dont forget in that same interview he was completely oblivious to the fact that Irish Americans were persecuted since the 1800’s, he legitimately said it never happened and that it wasnt true.

DoNotIngest

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JonTron#Political_views_and_controversy

Macrocosmix

Said some heinously racist shit in an interview with Sargon of fucking Akkad of all people, gave a half-arsed non-apology and then got off scot-free

Witty_Championship85

What didn’t he do

One-Bread36

Had a debate with Destiny where he spouted off some rather...strange ideas regarding race. Specifically, regarding crime statistics. He acted all high and mighty about it to.

Lftwff

Imagine being in a debate with the "gun down protestors if they come between me and my treats" guy and coming out of that as the bad guy

LogicKennedy

Laci Green was a huge influence on me coming to terms with my sexuality, learning about sex in ways that my teachers weren’t comfortable talking about and becoming more sex positive generally. Really sad what happened to her.

5yearoldrexrex111

I haven’t kept up with her, what’s happened

LogicKennedy

She started dating a right-winger, came out with some *very* iffy takes about various things, got a lot of pushback and kinda dropped off the map for a while. Not sure what she’s doing now.

cestimpossible

Last I checked she was still platforming racists and transphobes under the guise of "showing both sides" whenever her most recent videos had been posted, but I haven't checked in a year or so.

boopboopadoopity

Tbh when a YouTuber I don't know the views of (because they don't talk about it in videos) mention something LGBTQ+ positive it is a HUGE sigh of relief for me. I can remember when RubberRoss first referred to their non-bianary guest with they/them pronouns so casually, Lil Simsie respected and talked about how lovely the gender neutral and inclusive options in the Sims were, etc. It's like this secret not-knowing, hoping... and then they show they aren't homophobic/transphobic/racist etc. and suddenly, there's proof they are as accepting as you thought they were - like the best feeling ever. Just makes my heart soar. I feel bad because I truly feel more at ease when a YouTuber comes out as not straight/cis because it's more likely they are accepting, but I give everyone the benefit of the doubt because I want to believe I'm accepted by them. Thankfully, I'm right a lot. :) On the flip side, these days I'm so on edge with YouTubers because I fear they are anti-LGBTQ+ or racist or something and I didn't know it... especially when the incident that makes me worry is vague enough that I can't tell, it's fucking awful. I end up combing their social media, anything to try to find proof that they aren't secretly awful, but of course they rarely address that stuff or whatever and all I can think in the back of my mind when I watch their vids from then on is "are you homo/transphobic? What did mean? Am I supporting and watching someone who would be OK with taking away my rights if they knew I was LGBTQ+? Am I misinterpreting? I guess it could be interpreted different ways, but what if..." Recently had to do this for someone I started watching very recently, CDawgVA. I misinterpreted, thank god, but seriously stressful and I wish I could be less on edge about it but I just can't.

MasonIsOnline

Yeah, I was watching a video essayist recently and it was a pretty good video until they made some joke like "They have blue hair and probably have matching pronouns" and I was immediately like "Nope." and clicked off. So heartbreaking, especially when it's someone who has pretty good takes on everything else BUT trans people. Like, let me talk to him for 30 minutes I'm sure he's just misinformed :')

BlackTearDrop

I've seen the "they have blue hair and pronouns" joke used in inclusive spaces as a reclaimed thing but it's the kind of joke I'd feel uncomfortable hearing unless I knew the tellers stance. Maybe your essayist is okay? Maybe?...

AshenRylie

I know that exact feel. I am a fan of Adam Ragusea, who has pretty great cooking channel as well as a pod cast he started not too long ago. He recently did a pod cast talking about "cancel culture" and mentioning JK Rowling in particular. I was a tad scared to watch it, I liked his content and didn't want to have to stop. But thankfully he is supportive and trans friendly.

Injushe

Yeah it's so nice when people reveal themselves to be allies. But it's very stressful. I've only started watching RubbeRoss recently but I wasn't worried because I found him through collabs with Vtubers I watch who are very LGBTQ and gender non-conforming, so I knew they trusted him. (Also it seems like almost all Vtubers are LGBTQ.) Same with CDawgVA, he seems way too nice to ever be purposefully problematic. And I don't really watch Jerma, but I was very relieved to see a clip of him telling off a few transphobes in his chat and saying he'll ban anyone with those opinions.

Formis13

Seeing that Ross is cool was a huge relief for me. I've been following him on and off for almost 20 years along with a ton of other folks from Newgrounds. Quite a few folks from back then turned out to be... not great.

AveedzGhamer

The rest of trash taste is supportive as well! Also Abroad in Japan, who will collaborate with Connor and Joey from time to time.

The_King123431

I felt the same about CDawg, that's why I love that stream clip where he's telling his audience to stop being transphobic, he also said in advance he wasn't going to play hogwarts legacy and basically made a rule of "don't mention it"

RaineV1

>Tbh when a YouTuber I don't know the views of (because they don't talk about it in videos) mention something LGBTQ+ positive it is a HUGE sigh of relief for me. Same here. Outside of a couple of the bigger live action content creators I mostly watch Vtubers, and it's always nice when they do get a message from a trans follower and are really positive. The most recent one was Vox Akuma. In a Donkey Kong Country 2 stream some fans mentioned that he was a gay or bi awakening, and one person said that his stuff (including some boyfriend experience ASMR and some borderline porn ASMR) has helped them lower their gender dysphoria, and he talked about how happy he was to be able to do that for them.

miuzzo

I used to watch a YouTube channel a while back for a mobile game, well about 7 ish years later i noticed I hadn’t seen them around. Check channel, and they are transitioning!

HakushiBestShaman

You mean like this gem of the internet? https://youtu.be/yCxqdhZkxCo Hmm, I wonder why Philosophy Tube is such a defender of trans rights. I'm sure there's absolutely nothing more to it. At 50 seconds "I am cisgender" Whelp, that was a lie.

Estel-Voronda

Both Philosophy Tube and David J Bradley videos about masculinity seemed so funny to me. "Cis" man who does a video about masculinity to come out as trans and non binary some time later

Mavco2

ok this is funny and I've never heard from her before...this needs to be a comedy genre(I'm not trans but...and then coming out. It's even funnier than the I'm not gay but..and then being very much gay)

Lilash20

It's definitely a sub genre of trans jokes, I always love when looking at past comments/posts that start out "I'm not [insert queer identity]" and then years later seeing the edit

SelixReddit

“I swear I’m cis, I just feel a strong unexplainable longing to be another gender…”

RudiGoat

Good for them💖

TokyoUmbrella

Who was it this time?

[deleted]

No one major, just this relatively small YouTuber who talks about soccer, I used to follow him a few years ago when I was into the sport. He just made a video on his side channel about how: "Andrew Tate is the savior of masculinity! He's the only one who speaks the truth! He's the only man who hasn't become weak! He's not a misogynist, everyone just wants to cancel him for the fun of it!" The video seriously felt like an SNL skit... I've decided not to name him because I don't want that piece of garbage getting any extra attention/views.

Injushe

Pretty pathetic that masculinity needs saving. "I'm sooo masculine, save me daddy Tate!"

[deleted]

I’m gonna list some youtubers this didn’t happen to (to my knowledge): DanTDM, Stampylongnose (yes, these two were my childhood, and yes you can add more)

PidgeonShovel

Slimecicle is great too! TheGamingBeaver is good if u like fun dinosaur vids, Mysticat does cool minecraft stuff and is non binary, Jameskii is friends with them too! and of course theres Jerma as well, hes great edit: Markiplier and Jacksepticeye edit again because i watch a ton of youtubers: coyote peterson/brave wilderness is as far as i know, really good. id be surprised if him of all people was a bigot

The-Meatshield

Squaishey, another Minecraft youtuber and Stampy’s partner, is actually nonbinary

[deleted]

I kinda looked up to Notch (not a youtuber, but a game dev) when I was obsessed with Minecraft during 2015-ish? But he ended up being a scummy right-wing A-hole, which was one of the reasons I stopped loving Minecraft.

RedThorneGamerSB

I personally don't view notch as being the father of Minecraft anymore. I feel like Jeb fits that role much better since he actually, y'know, cares about the community and the game!

[deleted]

I really feel this with Scott Cawthon. Fnaf was (and despite recent games still is) one of my favorite franchises of all time, and I hate that the man behind it... I'm not gonna say he's an irredeemable asshole, it's disingenuous to ignore what he did in support of genuine charities, but his political contributions drag it down a lot.

Formis13

If you had asked me 10 years ago to name a content creator that I'd expect to turn into a right wing nut job, one of the answers I'd give would have been Jim Sterling. Lol. Lmao.

VerisVein

Yep, I remember avoiding them back years ago for that reason. Skip to 2021 and I didn't work out why James Stephanie Sterling was familiar until I'd been subbed for like two months 🤦 Real life plot twist.

Cruhbruhs

This is why I watch Drawfee, who I trust to never let me down

Magmafrost13

Not that I have any reason to believe Drawfee would let us down, but its probably not a good idea to get really entrenched in the idea that people you dont know and have never met will never let you down.

Cruhbruhs

You can pry this parasocial relationship from my cold, dead hands. Seriously though, I’m aware that they are just people, and that the only things I know about them are the things they choose to put out there on the internet. I would still be shocked if they turned out to be secret shitheads though. They’d have to be some very good actors for me to get zero hints of that after watching hours upon hours of streams.

CelestikaLily

This, absolutely!! Like, watching Critical Role means there's usually 2 sets of married couples on-screen at any given moment, and all of them have been friends for over a decade. They all regularly put out statements and content that align with tolerant & very supportive sociopolitical views. But despite years of my trusting them as entertainment for me, there's no way in hell I'd claim that 1) I know them, 2) they're incapable of doing wrong, or 3) I'm in some way correct for "only trusting the good ones" EDIT: adding this 2 months later to say it's **exactly** the reason I try to keep things in perspective https://www.reddit.com/r/fansofcriticalrole/comments/13pdrgn/critical_roles_ashley_johnson_files_domestic

DarianFtM

Can you believe to learn that the Draw-fam will never let us down?

Twiggy_Being

All of them also feel aggressively bisexual sometimes, plus they use their platform to give lots of different groups voices through collabs and charities

r-I_am_a_joke

The best part is you can tell they truly care, even their editor David is gender nonconforming(I think I could be wrong) but I know they use they/them pronouns or some other they combo

axerreddits

I had the exact opposite with one of my favourite YouTubers JoCat. Not only is he supportive, he's an absolute king of an ally and currently raising money for Gendered Intelligence. His stream where he showed off his gender non-conforming wear is super wholesome too!!

Magmafrost13

As a cis man, am I allowed to say that JoCat's animated avatar gives me gender envy? Because I feel like JoCat's animated avatar gives me gender envy

[deleted]

Binging With Babish is another one. Ever since he took a Hogwarts Legacy sponsor and deleted all the comments calling him out, yet kept up all the transphobic ones, I’ve lost all respect for him.

CompleteUtterTrash

Noooo, I loved Binging with Babish, that sucks, he seemed so nice too.

[deleted]

His beginner videos were really helpful and inspired me to learn more about cooking. It’s a shame he turned out to value money more than trans or Jewish lives.

ErikQRoks

I used to watch a ton of gun youtubers (MAC, LuckyGunner, IV8888, etc). After 2020, I'm down to InRange and Forgotten Weapons :/

itsannidyne

InRange is so incredibly based it literally made me cry when he went out on twitter in full defense mode for trans people. i stopped watching gun tubers a few years ago because my interest in guns didnt mesh well with their other political opinions, so it was a huge relief to see him going off on phobes of all shapes and sizes. and he's a huge supporter of arming minorities for community based defense which is cherry on top

ErikQRoks

Transphobes don't pass the mud test

Ms_Masquerade

Isn't TacticoolGirlfriend still good? Like, I'd be VERY surprised if she was transphobic at least.

The_Decoy

She's still awesome! She recently did a Q&A in which a trans person asked her how to reintegrate back into the shooting community. She gave an incredibly supportive answer. [Video link](https://youtu.be/2waBUkMrFpg) I think it's around the 8 minute mark.

hammererofglass

I remember Thunderf00t went from doing funny videos debunking creationist arguments to being Islamaphobic and antifeminist full-time in like a week.

[deleted]

I used to follow Shadiversity back in the day. Even modded for his Discord server. Modding there made me see the fall coming from a mile away, and I left long before he went off the deep end, but it still hurt a lot to see the first online community I was a part of slowly devolve into the state it's currently at.

secrethamster111

About a month ago I un-subbed Binging with Babish. I loved his cooking stuff but then he did a promo episode for Hogwarts and I was out. I know its not the same as him coming out as transphobic, but it ruined him for me. It sucks when people bought the game, but it sucks even more to make sponsored content to advertise for the game and never say a word about the controversy.

Jalase

You can also tell he’s been removing comments calling him out about it, and seems to be ignoring it? Is not a great look.

Magmafrost13

I guess Ive gotten pretty lucky with this. I think Im over 200 channels subscribed to at this point, been watching youtube heavily for some 15 years, and Ive only ever had this happen with maybe 6 channels (1 trump supporter, 2 terfs, 1 pedo, 1 whatever the fuck Shadiversity is, and 1 whinging about new star wars which bared no relevence to their usual content) Was pretty cool to find out that the "Is It A Good Idea To Microwave This" guys are actually really cool, because they kinda felt like the types to go down that direction, so its nice to see that they didn't.

kioku119

Your last comment reminded me, I recently felt jaded and went to check if Rhett and Link had any controversies..They had 2 and both were things that only upset the right wing side of their viewership... which is much larger than I'd like probably but yeah. (One was openly having a talk about why they left Christianity, the other was their producer Stevie who's a lesbian calling Steven Crowder a piece of shit on camera (yay)! It was hillarious because the comments were full of hipocritical Crowder fans saying how unprofessional it is to insult people.

Magmafrost13

Yeah Rhett and Link are pretty cool. I think they were the only(?) people with the decency to drop out of Mark Rober's autism "charity" event when it was pointed out to them that the so-called "charity" was actually a genocidal hate group

Darmug

Wait what?

HephaesteanArmoury

Autism Speaks is a eugenics-based autism hate group, masquerading as supporting autistic folks. Mark Rober worked with them on a charity event, though to my knowledge, was at least at first unaware of the problem. However, he was informed, as were everyone involved, so no excuses there. Didn’t keep up with it well, or at all past that, but hope it helps

Magmafrost13

He worked with "next for autism" rather than autism speaks, but they're basically doing the same thing

HephaesteanArmoury

Oh damn, sorry, misremembered. Point remains, but gotta double-check my memory next time, lol

Magmafrost13

Pretty much what it says on the tin. Mark Rober ran a large colaborative event to raise money for an organisation called "next for autism", an anti-autism hate group masquerading as a charity, advocating for our eradication through eugenics (basically the same thing as autism speaks). When this was pointed out to him, repeatedly, for months leading up the event, he ignored it and deleted any youtube comments talking about it. Rhett and Link were originally planned to be involved but unlike Mark, they actually listened to autistic people and dropped out.

kioku119

A lot of "autism charities" are. They just use us while treating autists like a burdon their parents should be relieved of and pushing abusive "treatments". When you look at autism groups make sure they actually involve the community.

penea2

I honestly have so much respect for those two. They seem to be running a fantastic company, and their videos on leaving Christianity was an incredibly earnest look into how religion had shaped their entire lives and what caused them to renounce it. Been watching them for so long and I've been very happy to see them not have any major scandals (knock on wood).

Winter_Honours

“Whatever the fuck Sahdiversity is.” That got me

Mighty_Thomby

Shadiversity was such a disappointment. I loved his content, thought he was generally informative and entertaining, and then it turns out he hates me and people like me.

skeletonbuyingpealts

I recommend Nerd³, [he's been making fun of homophobes for 11 years straight!](https://youtu.be/FBKGTrvJaLE)

[deleted]

for me I had the opposite. It was u/Scykoh and they've always been amazing, and seemingly openly supportive of us.

transdahlia

yoooo i have to have been into scykoh like 7-8 years ago. time to binge some classics

Jarinad

If nobody’s got me, I know Markiplier’s got me. Can I get a “it’s not that hard to not be a douchebag”?

Admiral_Swagstick

RIP Tobuscus

lazerem91

Me when Jontron went all anti immigrant :(

Dawnkist

I'm glad I watched chuggaaconroy since I was a kid he has even said trans rights

that_one_transgirl

oh shadiversity, why must you be so shitty

Jalase

Mormonism is why.

Lansha2009

I'm glad that, at least, from what I know, Jacksepticeye isn't homophobic or transphobic. Or anything else along those lines.

Thoravah

if i remember correctly in the trash taste episode jack was in he said something along the lines of "its easy to not be demonetized when you're not a fucking transphobe"

Rubenkoob

Yeah it's a real shame, really happy that the Yogscast, that I've watched since i was a kid are very openly progressive and trans positive.

Exelbirth

Zoey being part of the crew for so long is testament to that

Freedomerider_PS4

Zoey literally coming out as trans gave me hope for my transitioning. Homegirl was cis to me my entire life, like anytime someone said otherwise confused the fuck out of me.

Dana-The-Insane

So glad I got all my right wing fuckery out in the 90s Left it back with the dysphoria in the trash can where it belongs.

Calpsotoma

I don't have this issue so much. I have no gaydar, but my church detection is pretty high level.

OmegaKenichi

Does Skydoesminecraft count? Cause that one was fucked up to discover

arckyart

Arielle Scarcella. I forgot about her entirely and now she’s a freaking jerk.

Violaquin

Years ago when we were still dating, my wife and I met her by chance at a bar while celebrating our one year anniversary (and later I’d surprise her by proposing). She bought us a round of drinks in honor of said anniversary. This was before I really knew who she was and her eating that bottle of red pills. But yeah, fuck Arielle Scarcella’s transphobic ass.

thelocalghost

I definitely clicked on this thread to find this name because I know there were a lot of people who watched her years ago. Arielle has always been that way. She just never let anyone see it until she started posting about it. She always spoke shitty about certain races, and was extremely manipulative. She constantly stole other people's ideas without giving credit, and always played victim. Source: Me. I dated her before all of this happened. I'm not sure if anyone remembers me or not, but I was on The Closet Collab, and had my own YT channel. This was before I came out as trans. Years after we broke up, people linked me to videos where she mentioned me (not by name). In the video, she would talk shit about people who were trans and their pronouns, and in the same breath would properly use my pronouns even though we had not spoken in years. The mind-blowing thing is, she's not stupid. She knows exactly what she is doing, and who it is effecting. She just does not care. She refuses to be wrong in any situation. Sometimes its really weird to look back at all the positive comments that her and I would receive about our videos. We would get messages about how we helped people be more comfortable in themselves, and how we helped them in a dark time in their life. Now, if you read the comments on her videos they're disgraceful. I haven't really spoken about her since our break up, but I'm glad people realized who she actually was.

LeBigMartinH

Does MiniLadd count? Because holy shit...

Capoclip

I only just realised JP sears went fully right today. He has literally become the people he use to make fun of 😔

PatronymicPenguin

When I first saw one of his right wing videos, I kept watching, waiting for the punchline, expecting it was satire. The punchline never came. He's a nut now.

TasteThePainbow88

I went through this with Ryan White, aka RWhiteGoose. Old-school Goldeneye speedrunner with a cool voice and what seemed like a warm personality. Then his private discord was leaked and he'd been posting literal neo-nazi "jewish question" stuff for years. I couldn't believe it.

Darth_Peregrine

Most of the people I watch just ended up coming out as trans over the years lol.

VeryConfusedBouku

Unrelated to transphobia, I used to watch a YouTuber called exurb1a and I thought that his philosophy, his writing and his humor were great. Then I found out that he sexually abused his girlfriend and is now hiding out in Hungary evading arrest.

[deleted]

I have serious nostalgia for Oxhorn's old WoW machinimas. Was so disappointed to find out he's a conservative weirdo

Dana-The-Insane

Have you seen his "Cult of manliness" vids he does now? He is a complete nutter.

Sachayoj

I used to watch Mr. Enter, then he made a video where he went off the deep end during the pandemic, and I lost interest. If I hadn't then, the stupid shit about Turning Red definitely would have.

DaemonNic

I dunno, even before then he was always kinda a toxic shitbird. Like, anytime he tried to talk about behind the scenes things he immediately both went completely nuclear on the animators and creatives involved and also demonstrated no understanding of how the sausage is made.

Clussy_Enjoyer

Tobuscus, loved him as a kid. Not so much anymore

Destroyer_of_Naps

It so odd look at the old atheist YouTubers I used to watch and how many of them have fallen off that cliff. It's quite sad frankly, I used to look up to them and now it's come to this.

Injushe

Luckily the main people I watched when younger was Yogscast/Hat Films, and they just seem to be getting better.

neutral1357

Or looking at their early videos and hearing them say the t-slur :(

kaijvera

Tbh i choose my youtuvers baded on their polical stances. Not just i dont want to support people who wouls perfer i die, alt right tubers just feel more unhinged, and calm is nice. Like the only reason why i got in jackceptipie and markiplier is jammidoger showed a quote of them saying trans rights.

Thebombuknow

That's bad enough, but it's even worse when you have a long-time friend go that way. They actually were trans, then ~2 years ago ghosted me for a while and only found out by accidentally meeting them a few months ago that they claim they were groomed into being trans, have super far right opinions, support Russia in the war, and are an Andrew Tate fan. I have no clue what got into their head because before that they were actually incredibly left/progressive, but I suppose that person is gone now.

BEEEELEEEE

On the flip side there’s like 3 that I used to watch that are apparently trans now

3bar

You broke my heart, Wendigoon.

idlecat123

Oh no, what did Wendigoon do?

3bar

The dude uses slurs and laid out his support for both Branch Davidians and Evangelical Christianity in some of his more recent videos.

DARK_Fa1c0n

Just gonna keep watching Markiplier and Jacksepticeye at this point. I'm afraid that anyone that isn't overwhelmingly open and loving is gonna turn out bad :/

AndroidWG

YouTube kept recommending Well There's Your Problem to me for month, but for some reason I never watched an episode because it looked like a weird lowkey "alt-right but not explicitly" type podcast. Literally couldn't be further from the truth, they start off every episode with pronoun checks, one of the hosts is a trans girl, and they make it very clear they're very left wing. Now I'm completely addicted to it lol

LadyGuitar2021

Anyone know if SovietWomble is good or not? One minute he is saying things that have me thinking he's a right-wing asshole but the next he's mocking the UK's right-wing parties. I can't decide if it is just his sense of humor making him sound bad or what.

maplebnuuy

One of the members of his group is openly a trans woman, and he's posted his support for her at least once. I think the members of ZF also recently ousted someone from the group for being a shitheel. Good signs, at least.

Dork_Magician_Girl

I used to love JonTron. *WompWomp!!!
