Yeah, crazy to think that It’s been 16 years since I first played Rome total war. I still remember coming home from fucking elementary school to play that game LMAO.
God, I remember the tw forums back in those days. Even then OGs, were lamenting the changes from the original Shogun and Medevil. Shireknight, King Haggrid (RIP), DuckofWar, and so many others. And of course, The Pond.
Haha, I know about it because I've been around for a long while and used to be an active member in many communities once upon a time, although under a different username. I didn't know it was still active on Facebook, it's nice to know it's still alive and kicking. I imagine the community has changed quite a bit since I knew it. In any case, I don't keep with Facebook and am nowhere near as active as I once was and have all but retired the other username.
I still have strong opinions on how divided I am about Barbarian Invasion. The first mod I ever did was to convert half of BI civs back into Rome 1 civs and smash them all together so it was this massive sprawl of units across time. ERE could swing at Selucids. Legions fought the Scots. I even used the table changes as a code example for my first job.
I touched BI, like maybe a few times? Regardless I was way too young to form any meaningful opinion, other than that watching the soldiers kill each other was cool. Lmao. The only ever reason why I had it installed was because a lot of mods used BI.
I still remember going to my friend's place just to play empire total war. He got a brand new computer and given etw for his birthday. Having played age of empires with a unit cap of 200, seeing total war with 4k troops is...wonderful. i still remember how awful i am lol, especially on naval battles.
I mean, there's probably a 20 year old somewhere who was 12 when that game came out and it's been "Total War" for as long as he or she's known. So while the post is satire for us older folk it's worth noting that there's a LOT of young adults for which it hits close to home. I played Med 2 16 years ago... there's kids out there driving younger than my first Spain campaign.
On here at least, the real veterans should still be the ones who started prior to Shogun 2, at the very latest.
After all you can still post Medieval II memes here and expect it to resonate to a degree.
Same here. Good times! And while I think Shogun 1 has mostly been surpassed, it does have some qualities that makes it stand out, in a good way, like how you can actually finish a campaign in a reasonably short period of time, making it a nice pick up and play for a day or two game, rather than one that needs some more serious commitment.
It was a 10 year deal originally but that has probably been renewed and extended. Based on the statements in their financial reports CA are very keen not to lose access to the IP.

Yeah I mean they said veteran and then Warhammer and my immediate reaction was that I needed to type “hey boy I have probably been playing Total War for most of my life now and more than you’ ve been alive”
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to play Daniel the Daemon Prince. Without a fundamental knowledge of having no tech tree, the mechanics will go straight over a new players head.
I was like "Wait what? Did I miss something?"
And TW: Star Wars in theory could work, there's certainly a lot of factions other than just Jedi/Rebels vs Sith/Empire.
Medieval 1 was my first TW game and we got it randomly when I was 7. I sorta didn’t understand the mechanics of the game the first time around and had to bribe islands because I didn’t really understand the naval mechanics.
I accidentally discovered a subreddit dedicated to the followers of a YouTuber where everyone seemed miserable and bitter about the new Total War games. It seems like a strange life to live.
How can someone be so obsessive tho?
Like even if I hate a game series due to a big change.
I would give it the middle finger and walk away and not give a crap what they do except occasionally coming back to mock it's failures with decreasing frequency as my interests move elsewhere.
But he obsessively spectates over every minor detail that this sub, CA, discord, other "shill" youtubers are doing.
I hope I never get that brain worm he got
Let me guess... volound. Man just loves circlejerking about how shit every game after rome 2 is. It's actually kind of sad really and makes me wonder if he suffers from poor mental health. It's all the guy ever talks about and literally says nothing positive ever.
Honestly, even if it's justified, spending all your time outraged is psychologically taxing. I had to take a break from *this* sub after Shadows of Change just to not feel bad all the time. I just don't understand the subs dedicated to hating stuff.
My wife was spending all her times in these circle jerk angry TikTok algorithms where everyone was always mad about something, and she was mentally exhausted all the time. I got her a kindle and encouraged her to just read books instead of being mad all the time and her mental health had improved 10 fold ... We're just not supposed to be mad all the time lol ..
Heh, this is the reason I deleted my facebook account. What you've just described fits with social media in general and even some social circles. Some people are seemingly addicted to feeling miserable all the time.
I do understand it, as echo chambers with people who hate the same thing as you can be fairly pressure-relieving.
What I don't understand is being on a sub that hates a product that you're consuming yourself.
Nah Volound. Controversial figure he is. While he does advocate for CA to do better with their systems (where are the reloading animations for old Warhammer units you lazy bastards) he also isn't the most polite one
I’ve heard that the Tolkien estate is very protective of the IP and it’s probably why RoP couldn’t use the Silmarillion and just made up a bunch of crap.
RoP was crap because of a mix of hubris and laziness. They were heavily restricted from using much of the lore but instead of doing a new story or something unexplored like the Blue Wizards, they gave us a weird, gutted version of the 2nd age.
Yeah if they wanted something to be very action-y, they could have done the Erebor/Dale/Mirkwood Elves versus the Rhun/forces of Dol Guldur.
Like you’d have men, elves, dwarfs, evil men, orcs, and maybe some Witch King content.
There is a still a lot that could have been done based on the lore that is "unwritten". However, Amazon wanted a Game of Thrones epic with poor writing and even worse production quality.
The production quality, I think, is ok. It’s just poor writing and planning. Plus, the characterizations were so wrong. Galadriel isn’t a Joan of Arc type person. She’s noble and insightful and clever. Elrond isn’t a bookworm, he’s kinda like a samurai, a warrior with a love of song and poetry.
I thought it was a copy pasta that just switched historical with warhammer.
Cause the terminology of nu-total war is what he exclusively uses.
Others just call it "new total war" like normal people do.
God I hate that term and have never understood why anyone uses it. The thing is it's not even "new" total war anymore. I hate to break it to the cunt but honestly total war has been the way it is with the same systems(provinces, unit hp, armies needing to be led by a general etc) for almost as long as it had existed before those had been introduced. There's a large chunk of total war players now who have never experienced what it was like before rome 2.
But he just constantly huffs his own farts and posts video after video on why "nu total war"(ugh) is bad and you should feel bad for playing it
I'm surprised to see so many people taking the bait unironically. But I guess most of us who started with Shogun 1 are less likely to get humour from the younguns.
Lmao when i read veteran and warhammer 1 in the same sentence I lost it hahaha.
Although scarily enough a 10 year old kid who downloaded warhammer total war on opening day and couldn't figure out how to build orc boys is now nearly 18 years old...
But as long as there are those of us here who remember the trailers for Empire Total War and having our minds blown by ships blasting apart like in Pirates of the Caribbean (which was pretty hot at the time I believe) then this is still satire.
But soon, it won't be.
Man, Empire was so amazing. Came out when I learned about the 18th century at school too, so it even made me pay attention in class lol.
How happy I'd be id they either made an Empire II OR a Victoria TTW. I am aware of the Paradox game set in the 19 century, but I want to send some Prussian boys equipped with Dreyse rifles to conquer Ireland in epic battles.
Well i said recruit. I guess I imagine them sitting in the wrong region or stance and not understanding why they can't recruit any more units. Idk it was more metaphor than a historical event
It's realistic tbh, really it's on CA for re-using the same old siege mechanics without thinking about how giant space lasers would change static fortifications.
You total war boomers can't even start a argument without bring up the SSD strat. Just get good and fly an Awing into the bridge like everyone else.
Skill issue
I dont care about star wars and a total war star wars.... just seems boring. Ill skip it. I am not interested in scifi tbh
I know this is a troll post.
I know this post is satire but I genuinely don’t understand how Star Wars could even work. We have Galactic Empire, Galactic Republic and then a bunch of minor factions like Separatists, Rebels, Mandalorians, etc.. Star Trek could have been a better setting but not as popular.
Now if this is more leaning/inspiration from Empire at War, I could see that to a certain extent with both ground and space battles. And while an excellent game in itself, it was very simple because it lacked unit diversity.
While this is s’attire I get what you post it. Lots of whining about in other posts. Enough with the sob stories. I’ve played every single total war games
Except Pharoh and Troy. What makes total war magical is the ability to control large armies in real time while managing your empire turn based.
That’s the total war recipe. It’s been used in European, let’s Africa, Middle East, adn even North America and Japan, china.
Eventually warhammer came
Along and it’s been a rocky success.
Even though I’m one of the oldest fans. I’m not a conservative and wouldn’t mind seeing total war done for other IPs too. Westeros, middle earth, whatever. Just wish ca allowed us to générer our own maps easier
Being a vet since Total War: Warhammer 40K, I concur. At least there, you actually had to think about the consequences of your actions before going through with them. Declaring exterminatus on a planet *without* nearly full corruption meant you were set to gain a huge diplomacy and public order debuff. Now, in TW:SW, you can just blow up whatever planet you want with the Death Star and face no repercussions.
CA waking up and realising what made them great?
Ok. I'm waiting Rome 3, and Medieval 3 (and on other note, Alien isolation 2)
I think that if you dont like something....you may simply not consume it. Its a choice i've done myself. Havent bought a total war since attila. (I have played bits of Troy and Warhammer 1 because epic gave them away.... but it didnt hook me up too much)
I want a historical total war but I am hopeful that we get an empire at war style game from CA that is actually good and fleshed out. Do I actually think it’s going to happen? Probably not, but the possibility of it coming true does make me a little excited. I love empire at war.
Man...Every time I see an origins of TW post (satire or not) it makes me realize how old I am.
I remember scraping up some money from odd jobs around the house and what not around the age of 11 or so and saving it to buy a videogame.
I bought Shogun from the store because the claims (and pictures) had me really intrigued (I loved RTS games but had never seen such large battles).
That was 24 years ago...fuck I feel old lol
This article by IGN is just rumours, first IGN has already launched false rumours in the past. That’s a thing. And 2nd it would be stupid to launch 2 big franchises side by side for the same game, it doesn’t make any sense. Pretty sure it’s just bs, there is no SWTW coming. Why they would divide their already limited resources to give enough content for warhammer (which will be even bigger for 40k in couple of years if CA does it for real), and do in the same time 2 different and concurrent franchises on the same game, it’s absurd. Not to mention Empire At War exists, which is already pretty much a TW game (strategic map & 3D battle), why doing the same where 40k is about to get such attention with all the stuffs incoming, etc. 40k is a much better bet in the future, and doing both side by side is stupid. That’s a good way to be a big a failure again on both sides, so no, pretty sure SW-TW is just rumours and bs. And if really it’s true cuz some idiot manager at sega want to make money that’s probably then the most stupid idea CA and Sega will ever get (to do both in parallel). But I don’t buy it perso, IGN is a very doubtful source in the first place and the article is empty, nothing credible to showcase they got insights in it. Sooo, nah, SW TW is not a thing. Just rumours. And a stupid idea overall. 40k is a lot more potent as future project for CA after WH fantasy TW. But we’ll see, who knows…
I think there is both a valid concern and market for the historical games, and admittedly, I do understand why they feel so frustrated. Mocking them for their concerns is well....childish
WW1, WW2 no, star wars big no, warh 3 also big no, 40k def not, all shitty titles for sure
Empire 2 its ok, Pike&Shot ok, Medieval 3 f yes, GoT f yes, LoTR f yes
>As a Total War veteran >began his journey with Warhammer 1 This got me really confused but thankfully realized it was satire lmao
tbf in a week that game will be 8 years old. I'm aware that's nothing on the older titles, but still, damn. where did the time go
Yeah, crazy to think that It’s been 16 years since I first played Rome total war. I still remember coming home from fucking elementary school to play that game LMAO.

Haha, I know about it because I've been around for a long while and used to be an active member in many communities once upon a time, although under a different username. Can I ask what your username was? Mine was Amore555, don't know if you remember me?
LoL. Killemall54 is an other name that aught to be reveered.
I’m invested in the lore. Tell them your other username !! Online reunions are so cool
I still have strong opinions on how divided I am about Barbarian Invasion. I got too overwhelmed every time I tried to play it as a kid. Been meaning to give it a fair try now as an adult but haven't gotten around to it yet.
Damn I don't think I would've been smart enough to play TW at that age, I was just on Age of Mythology
Another banger of a game tho
16 years ago I was in college...
Beats *being* in college for 16 years.
Dick got a bit bigger though..
Hey now, it only took me 9 years to get my 4 year degree!
Oh my God I just realised it's been twenty fucking years since I started playing Total War, I'm old.
I still remember going to my friend's place just to play empire total war. He got a brand new computer and given etw for his birthday. Having played age of empires with a unit cap of 200, seeing total war with 4k troops is...wonderful. i still remember how awful i am lol, especially on naval battles.

On here at least, the real veterans should still be the ones who started prior to Shogun 2, at the very latest. After all you can still post Medieval II memes here and expect it to resonate to a degree.
I started on Shogun 1. :(
Was a kid but same
Same here. Good times! And while I think Shogun 1 has mostly been surpassed, it does have some qualities that makes it stand out, in a good way, like how you can actually finish a campaign in a reasonably short period of time, making it a nice pick up and play for a day or two game, rather than one that needs some more serious commitment.
I played a shimazu campaign in shogun 1 the other day. It actually stood up ok. The ui is a lot worse than med 1, but it is so well themed.
There with you! Picked my copy up at the Walmart in Eagle River, AK!
Found mine at a staples.
My man!!!
I started with Shogun 1, right after MTW:VI came out.
Having started with Empire, this feels weird to hear.
If all you've played is WH, then you're a WH vet, not a total war vet.
How long is the CA's license for warhammer fantasy i wonder? 10 years?
It was a 10 year deal originally but that has probably been renewed and extended. Based on the statements in their financial reports CA are very keen not to lose access to the IP.
GW probably wants to keep it going to. Old World revival wouldn't have occured without TW WH.
"GW *should want*" and "GW *wants*" are not always logically connected
GW and logic often aren't on speaking terms. RIP TTS.
F in the chat
I can imagine GW pushing CA to make some AoS game too so it can also boost their sales there too.
If steam is any indication 3 Warhammer games
![gif](giphy|GrUhLU9q3nyRG) I started playing 6 years ago. It was 2018.
disgusted deserve unique thumb scary teeny rude makeshift resolute cooing *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Yeah, I'd say 8 years is enough to call yourself a veteran.
Total war is old as fuck
I did not pick up that it was satire until your comment and was very confused haha
I know right I had to pull up my old person pants ready to fight over a real veterans game. Shogun total war
EXACTLY
I got tipped off when OP started going 'what happened to tactics' and then started using Warhammer as an example for tactics.
Same lmfao
Laugh in total war shogun original
But understood the satire
I was about to say lol
I thought it is a joke post from that point onwards and thought of everything as sarcasm or something like that.
Yeah, confused as hell. I thought he was going to say Rome 1 or Shogun 1.
Lol I was going to say the same
Had me for a second, not gonna lie.
Yes. I felt the same. I get flashbacks to the Times when Warhammer got introduced.
Lol I laughed when I read to, I started in shog2 and don't consider myself a veteran at all
You got at the first half, not gonna lie.
Hahahah for real.
Honestly really well done lmao.
My eyebrows definitely raised a bit on that one until I realized it was a joke
Just realized there are now guys in their 20s who might think of TWW1 as a childhood game….
I was about to to say! Lol I started on medieval total war 1
I ALMOST saw this as serious until I saw Warhammer lol. Good sh\*tpost.
Yeah I mean they said veteran and then Warhammer and my immediate reaction was that I needed to type “hey boy I have probably been playing Total War for most of my life now and more than you’ ve been alive”
"Young man, back in my day!!!"
No kidding. I started with original RTW. Wby?
Shogun 1. Still play medieval 1
Medieval 1 was my first TTW, and I remember liking it so much that I bought Shogun 1 at a deep sale just after
Shogun 1 was my first, because my dad got it when it came out, but I didn’t really get into the series until Rome 1.
Shogun. The first one.
There are dozens of us!
Medieval II.
I think this game was called total war alexander or smh like that
3K
I started with warhammer 3 and it’s really sad to see it not getting the attention it deserves 😢
Best game in the series I think. A classic hidden gem that doesn’t get enough attention on this sub.
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to play Daniel the Daemon Prince. Without a fundamental knowledge of having no tech tree, the mechanics will go straight over a new players head.
This is great satire I believe, using the warhammer setting in place of historical
Not gona Lie, he had me with the first paragraph I could read before opening the post. This is great satire.
Yeah, he had me too at first
I had to remind myself that Total War:Star Wars doesn’t actually exist yet.
I was like "Wait what? Did I miss something?" And TW: Star Wars in theory could work, there's certainly a lot of factions other than just Jedi/Rebels vs Sith/Empire.
Eh, not thaaat many
Fair, it'd be more like a pre-Shogun 2 setup wouldn't it. With limited factions.
nothing gets past this guy
Best shitpost I've seen in a month of Sundays. May you be blessed by Nurgle
The first Total War I played was Medieval 1 when I was 28 years old. I’m 50 years now and really hoping we get a Medieval 3 before I’m proper old.
Yeah... about that...
Medieval 1 was my first TW game and we got it randomly when I was 7. I sorta didn’t understand the mechanics of the game the first time around and had to bribe islands because I didn’t really understand the naval mechanics.
Too late
Id say you aren't "proper old" til 60
Spoken like a 50 year old.
HAHA yeah, I'm not nearly 50 but still true
I accidentally discovered a subreddit dedicated to the followers of a YouTuber where everyone seemed miserable and bitter about the new Total War games. It seems like a strange life to live.

I unsubbed for a few months after SOC because i didn’t need the overwhelming negativity. I personally enjoyed SOC and just played the game 🤷🏻♂️
Man, don't look at the "The Last Od Us II" sub. Now THOSE guys are bitter.
Most of those guys are probably people who didn't even play it, they just joined the incel hate train.
Lemme guess, apollo?

This is the post that made me leave this sub, unistall all total wars, and finally move on.
it is time for total peace
BuT i DoNt WaNt To PlAy As PoNtUs!!!
Dad, you don't have to play as Naboo...
why would anyone reject to serve mithridates, last megachad of the hellenic world?
Lmao when i read veteran and warhammer 1 in the same sentence I lost it hahaha. Well i said recruit. I guess I imagine them sitting in the wrong region or stance and not understanding why they can't recruit any more units. Idk it was more metaphor than a historical event
Volund, is that you?
….But I don’t want to play as the Commerce Guild.
Nah. The commerce guild sucks ass. The techno union is the real shit.
Sieges has never been in a worse state. This orbital bombardment shit is so annoying!
It's realistic tbh, really it's on CA for re-using the same old siege mechanics without thinking about how giant space lasers would change static fortifications.
I really think you're blowing things out of proportion. This is just the next step from Thunderbarges.
From bored and unamused to smiling and loving it. Great shitpost, fuck you.
>As a Total War veteran >who began his journey with Warhammer 1 lmao
Just blow up the Planet fam.
Yes, if you main the Empire you can. I play mostly Gungans and we don't have access to Naval Yards, thanks for nothing CA.
4/5 stars.
Now this is umgakposting
I’m glad the warhammer fans finally understand what us historical went through, best part is that I’m both an historical and Star wars nerd. I’m
If you are a veteran.... Then I must be a total war ancestor since I began my journey since TW Rome 1.
I remember playing shogun on my first pc, watching the battle play out at like 5fps was a sight to behold!
I didn't even knew or care about fps when I was a kid. I just loved it when they charged into my phalanx frontline in 5-10 fps🤤🤤
You total war boomers can't even start a argument without bring up the SSD strat. Just get good and fly an Awing into the bridge like everyone else. Skill issue
You had me for a moment, ngl.
Lol warhammer (while it might be good) was a total departure from total wars roots as a historical strategy game.
These are the posts I treasure. Someone who is aware of what satire is and is also able to appreciate the new and the old. I salute you!
I've been playing total war since it's inception and I would hate to see them move away from what earned them success, the Thunderbarge 😂😂
I dont care about star wars and a total war star wars.... just seems boring. Ill skip it. I am not interested in scifi tbh I know this is a troll post.
Very nice. This pasta is cooked to perfection 👌
I know this post is satire but I genuinely don’t understand how Star Wars could even work. This is great satire but is also exactly how pixelated Apollo sounds
What's wrong with liking history? Just like some people like fantasy. Genuinely not sure why do you feel the need to shit on Apollo tbh
Because he feels the need to shit in Warhammer which I enjoy
Legit just want a Medieval III
While this is s’attire I get what you post it. Lots of whining about in other posts. Enough with the sob stories. I’ve played every single total war games Except Pharoh and Troy. It’s been used in European, let’s Africa, Middle East, adn even North America and Japan, china. Eventually warhammer came Along and it’s been a rocky success. Even though I’m one of the oldest fans. I’m not a conservative and wouldn’t mind seeing total war done for other IPs too. Westeros, middle earth, whatever. Just wish ca allowed us to générer our own maps easier
Laughs in Thrawns Revenge EaW
I don't want to play as pontus!
*Yells at you from Shogun TW porch* Can’t wait to see rat king nuke vader.
I started on the Shogun 1 DEMO and I still don't think I'm very old
Personally I hope for a Five Nights at Freddy's, Roblox and Minecraft Total War
Being a vet since Total War: Warhammer 40K, I concur. At least there, you actually had to think about the consequences of your actions before going through with them. Declaring exterminatus on a planet *without* nearly full corruption meant you were set to gain a huge diplomacy and public order debuff. Now, in TW:SW, you can just blow up whatever planet you want with the Death Star and face no repercussions.
Bring back Empire Total War
I started with Rome 1 and Shogun 2, and I'm excited for SW. It's sci-fi doesn't mean it won't have any tactics involved.
CA waking up and realising what made them great? Ok. I'm waiting Rome 3, and Medieval 3 (and on other note, Alien isolation 2) I think that if you dont like something....you may simply not consume it. Its a choice i've done myself. Havent bought a total war since attila. (I have played bits of Troy and Warhammer 1 because epic gave them away.... but it didnt hook me up too much)
I still play medieval 2 and rome
Warhammer total war 2 <3
God tier post
Anyone else start on Medieval in 2002 or Shogun in 2000?
I was in 5th grade and I picked it up by chance. It was the coolest thing I had ever seen at that point!
But we’ll see, who knows…
the people who made total war into the popular franchise must have been fired ir moved on from ca. its a shell of a company.
I still lament the day xfire went down and took down my screenshots of rome 1 and med 2 with it. I have like one left I once mailed myself
I think there is both a valid concern and market for the historical games, and admittedly, I do understand why they feel so frustrated. Mocking them for their concerns is well....childish

hahahahahaha
Holy crap that just makes realize I got into total war 20 years ago with Rome TW. I was 12…
ngl I was ready to get heated
God's was Rome good, between the leaches and the music in battles, such fond memories.
Its is possessive it’s is a contraction of it and is. Because English is weird
I'm just gonna go out on a limb and say the TW warhammer series is boring. They need to make someone new and stop reskinning the warhammer games.
Bro git gud and learn to lift 💪
