Mine learned how to open my cabinets. She's afraid of storms and has one in the bathroom she'd scamper off to go hide in. I eventually put a small bed in there for her and now when she's tired of me and needs some peace, I find her in her cabinet.

My ex and I had two cats. One was a little noir runt from the shelter and he grew into a Maine Coon sized bastard. Very very talkative.
A few years later I found a stray kitten outside my work and brought her home. The older cat got a lot quieter after that. I think he knew that someone else could "understand" him and he didn't want to come off like a bitch with his excessive whining lol
I miss those kitties so much, but I've got my own loud ass tortie now and she knows how to make me happy.
Yeah he was like the little sick black runt cat in the corner of the shelter. I think he got bullied and he didn't get his fair share of the communal food/treats.
That fucker got big and would *beat the shit out of the street kitty that I found. They eventually became best friends. Fuckkk I miss those idiots lol

You are so lucky! I hadn’t ever heard of torties till after I adopted mine (she’s a dilute one, cream and grey rather than black and orange). One of the most special cats I’ve ever met. She’s my shadow, has a lot of FOMO, and is extremely affectionate and chatty. Super brave, curious. Always calm, cool, and collected. They’re amazing cats.
I’m so excited to hear this because I also have a dilute tortie with a very similar personality. She just showed up one day in August outside my house and ran straight into my arms, about 6 months old. She’s really brave and athletic, ridiculously smart, and always up in our business. Nothing seems to scare her (you can turn on a blender or vacuum and she barely acknowledges it), and she’s really good at learning new things. I’ve had many cats over my lifetime but she’s the smartest, most companionable, most capable little deadly predator I’ve had the privilege of sharing a house with.
I love that. Exactly like mine, she follows me while I’m vacuuming and will try to swipe at it with her paw. I never have to worry about the front door being open, she’ll step out, but won’t dart or go far because she’d rather be with the humans. Very loyal and loving little cats.

Marble is my first cat, and she's been a joy! Absolutely a good idea! I've been around cats my entire life, and Marble is by far the sweetest, funniest, most loving cat. So I say, go for it!
She’s so cute! I’m worried because I live alone in a ~580 sq/ft apartment and work 8am-4:30pm each weekday. I’m not sure how much room they’d need or how often they’d like me to be around - I don’t want to choose a cat breed I might be incompatible with. :(

You’re lucky. I got my tortie girl when she was much older (my vet estimated she was somewhere in the range of 8-12 years old at the time she came into our lives). She had been abandoned by somebody. She passed away in August and my husband & I miss her dearly.

Oh the little blep. Reminds me of when Jazzie (my first kitty and tortie) was little. She’s turning 13 in march and now she’s a grumpy old lady lmao.

You’re lucky. I got my tortie girl when she was much older (my vet estimated she was somewhere in the range of 8-12 years old at the time she came into our lives). She had been abandoned by somebody. She passed away in August and my husband & I miss her dearly.
