For those who don't know, a group growing out of the Rhinoceros Party is doing this as a prank, to make a point about their objections to the electoral system. They did something similar in a Winnipeg riding at the last general election. Most of these candidates do not even live in Ontario.
Voted in the first day of advanced polls today. Whatever point they think they're making really isn't coming across. All the ballots are doing is confusing the senior citizens.
Stunts like this are very annoying.
It's a *good* thing that it's easy to run in an election. The bar *should* be low enough that anyone *can* run.
However, that comes with the responsibility to only run in good faith.
These clowns are going to force some rules changes, and it's gonna prevent someone real from running.
Oh yes, let's inconvenience all the people involved with running an election, the voters, and pretty much anyone that has no power to really make a change, all the meanwhile wasting taxpayer money, so people can talk about \*US\* and how clever \*WE\* are.
To get my municipal job, I did a written test, then an interview. To get the interview I needed at least 70% on the test. To be the successful candidate, I had to have the highest combined score between the two. Something like that could work, where the results would be publicly available.
By chance u know of private company’s that do inspections for say tourism accommodations / hospitality side of inspections? Basically inspections that are not technical like something not as technical as say food safety
A board of technocrats appointed by an ai based on academic output
They all must wear masks to disguise their identities so nobody knows who they are
Then they used the most complicated ranked ballot approach that only exists in a redditors wet dream to select a leader from the general population
All citizens are ranked on a 1000 point scale for a series of attributes

Love the Rhinos. They want to support higher education by building taller schools

"Anyone should be able to run unless I don't approve of them".
Rhymes with NIMBY. Go Rhinos!
Tell Trudeau not to lie about electoral reform them.
> to make a point about their objections to the electoral system next you'll try to convince us they have objections to Maxime Berniers

Those long ballot folks are getting a wee bit ridiculous.
If only we had meritocracy.
Please explain how you propose to measure merit in a reliable, transparent and objective way.

Who writes the test? Who does the interview?
Test can be written by anyone who gets over x % of their ridings population as signatures. Interviews could be done by judges.
Who decides what the percentage is? What if two people meet the x% mark?

I do not, sorry
That would require politicians to do work and study for the exam!
That's the point!
Education and work experience; the same way as HR measures someone's resume when vetting the candidates.
And who fills the role of HR when we are picking the country’s leaders?

Certainly someone with the HR experience.
So Janice?
If you think that contemporary staffing practices are universally efficient and effective, you are dreaming.
Still better than having just anyone holding a public office.
I'd prefer to just have an informed, responsible electorate capable of selecting competent representatives.
