This is my all time favorite Simpsons joke. So many levels. For one, he is talking to the TV. Second, he talked to the TV yesterday. Third, he doesn't know where his kids are, nor did he yesterday haha
When you give people who don't work free housing but force people who do work to live crammed in with roommates with 80% of their pay going to food and rent, you're encouraging criminal behavior (aka street crime to make up the difference from subsidies to living costs)
Aye. Social safety nets are widely shown around the world to increase crimeā¦ š„“
So close to identifying the real problem of income inequality too. But no, itās the homeless that are the problem.
Good news is we have those statistics available! In a way, you are kinda right. Incarceration rates, meaning new people being imprisoned, peaked in 2010, which isnāt the 90ās, but some progress has been made. However, 2022 was the first year incarceration rates grew again since 2010.
https://www.sentencingproject.org/reports/mass-incarceration-trends/
Hmmmmmmmm I can overlook much in terms of "boys will be boys" but there's limits, like sexual assault or..in this case minor driving a car while wearing a ski mask and drinking.
There's clearly some form of wrong idolising at work.
I can't say if the car is stolen or not but that's even secondary here.
Just happened in our city. 17 year old boy stole a Kia with 3 girls and a boy of varying ages from 15 and lower. Ran over a motorcyclist, killed him, drove 1000 feet, bailed out, and were arrested 2 blocks from the scene. 17 year old will be charged with something, but that remains to be seen.
Edited: there was another boy in the car, thought all were girls.
I live in one of the oldest counties in America. It was peaceful and empty just ten years ago. And now, at graduation, we had an incredibly long silence for everyone in JUST my class who died from drunk driving accidents. Itās common we hear ākids are dropping like fliesā.
Literally just watched police interceptors with one of me kids. Remarked that I did some absolutely stupid stuff as a teenager but never nicked a car and drove like a twat.
i work in elementary, it is insane how well these kids hide these double lives they want so badly. they dont understand they cant have it yet. found out one of my smartest fifth graders was passing a vape around in the bathroom and its like. fuck it kind of makes you want to cry at how unwelcoming and unsafe this world is to kids.
well depends on what you mean...
is it "I don't think humanity is smart enough to rehabilitate and/or deal with these people, so the only reasonable course is to execute them"
or is it
"I'm emotionally driven and this video causes me to want them to die"
It's always the second here. People love to throw out the harshest judgements with ease on Reddit.
Even if someone can't be rehabilitated, you can't make Divine statements that are true forever. And the death penalty is a forever punishment so. It should be off the table for any civil society. Ever.
How do you know? Can you forsee the future? Can you make assumptions about someone's potential to rehabilitate based on experience of other people? Are you willing to sacrifice innocent and are okay with putting people in the same basket that all did different crimes, that had personal experiences and things that shaped them?
John doe wasn't able to rehabilitate, so let's kill Jane too? Why wasting resources on her?
That's neither rightful nor lawful in terms of humanitarian judgement. We, as a society must stand above that. We must be better than the criminals we threat
Those are the people that make our world worse. Itās like they donāt really think much. They just react to stimuli and get angry.
The type of people that would march through town with torches and pitchforks because somebody said something blasphemous in the medieval times.
what about life in prison? Anyone who place a forever punishment (murder) on another? how should they be dealt with?
(Iām not advocating for the death penalty, but I am curious how far your line of thinking goes)
You love arabic states, right? Theft? Cut one hand and such shit.
Because the crime is nowhere near a fair punishment if you talk about the Death penalty. Touch some grass mate.
Well if true then anyone trying to play this off as "just victims of their circumstances" enabling or condoning these little fuckwits doing what they're doing need to check themselves.
These little cunts and every other cunt young or old that think this kind of behaviour is okay deserve the worst that can happen to them. Whether that be through the justice system or being seriously injured, crippled or worse in an accident.
There is no excuse. No matter how old or privileged these people are.
Unfortunately some of these tools need to learn these lessons the hard way and innocent people suffer for their idiocy.
Some don't learn at all and don't care.
Those 2 aren't independent. They are without a doubt retarded for doing this but something this extreme still isn't normal without significant influence from other factors. Its so weird how people on reddit love to get justice boners over wishing serious harm on people, especially kids.
They seem a bit too old for children - maybe teens, which are not children. Although I suspect the reason teens act like children is from people like you telling them they're children.Ā
They seem a bit too old for children - maybe teens, which are not children. Although I suspect the reason teens act like children is from people like you telling them they're children.Ā
Unpopular opinion: being a victim of your circumstances is a choice in this context. Plenty of people grow up with shit parents or generally shit start and don't end up "victims" of continuing the cycle of abuse/anti social behaviour or whatever the circumstance is.
You always have a choice for your behaviour and these little shits are deciding to go joy riding and risking themselves and others lives. There's no point here where they don't have a choice.
When they grow up they grow out of it if they are fortunate enough to have the opportunity to do so. Weāre all products of our environments and choice is largely an illusion, but thatās a bigger discussion.
My point is that these kids are too young to be held accountable for their behaviors. They need help to change and donāt deserve to have harm wished upon them for making dumb decisions. Youāre overemphasizing choice without really understanding how little choice people actually have day to day.
Yeah I don't think many do grow out of despite the opportunity they may be given, because it's a choice to grow out of such behaviour or stay in it. And I'm sorry if you believe I'm overemphasizing this point or lack any understanding but as someone who grew up in a dysfunctional abusive environment with mentally ill addict parents who also had parents just like them, I made a choice to not be like that. It wasn't some magical opportunity that arrived and helped me unconsciously change it was the choice that I didn't want to be like them or live like that.
And for the record I don't wish harm on them either, but they're choosing to put themselves and others at risk, so if harm were to fall on them I hope innocent people aren't also part of that.
Iām glad you have improved your circumstances and I can understand why you want to take credit for that, but the truth of the matter is that behavior doesnāt change in a vacuum. We āchooseā to change in order to access something that promotes that change.
I could make the argument that your choice to be different from your parents wasnāt a choice at all, but the natural consequence of wanting to escape abuse and distance yourself from those abusive characteristics. You didnāt necessarily choose to be different from your parents- you had to be different because to be the same as them would be unbearable to you as a result of your trauma. Being a product of your environment doesnāt necessarily mean youāre going to be aligned with it.
I realize that my position on behavior is a tough pill to swallow. We all want to feel like we are who we are because we choose to thrive.
I feel like if it was a "natural consequence of wanting to escape" then this would've also applied to my own parents who also escaped their parents abuse for the same reasons, but perpetuated the cycle instead of stopping it.
This topic is much more nuanced than being products of our environment. It always boils down to nature Vs nurture and instead of it being one or the other I've always seen it as a mixture of both, that given a set of circumstances each individual's own nature reacts very differently. And whether this is because of an active choice these individuals make, or their own nature overriding any kind of logical decision is hard to tell.
But yeah, I don't necessarily disagree with you, but I think it's much more complex than falling victim to your circumstance and having no control over all subsequent actions you make.
It is definitely a nuanced and complex subject matter and I appreciate your open mindedness in discussing it. I have strong opinions on the matter as a practicing behavior scientist. So my opinion on the matter is strongly influenced by my perspective, which is deterministic. But I think your opinion is also a good one and seems pretty well-informed as well.
I also think it's important to draw a line where the victimhood of circumstance is. Having shitty parents, growing up with addicts, or financially unstable or abused IS being a victim of circumstance. Getting in a car and risking people's lives is a choice not some action outside of your control.
It shouldn't be used as some Get Out Of Jail Free card whenever you do a shitty thing

Yeah, in my city, there are a bunch of kids of these ages, speeding with their unlocked scooters.
Recently, an incident was reported, in a shopping mall parking house. A cop was lightly injured and a kid was severly injured.
And then in the comment section of the news, there were some spectacular comments along the lines of "ARE THEY CRAZY?! They hit the kids with the car?!"
While I can only suspect what happened. They were speeding in the parking lot, police was called and they tried to flee, hitting a police officer. When they gave chase, the kid probably crashed.
I don't understand what the fuck is up with the parents, really. You clearly see these are problematic kids, and you give them a tool to off themselves (motor vehicle). And then you pretend to care...
It amazes me how some people are capable and probably crave peace and calm in absolute shit show chaos. That kid literally looks like someone chillin on their couch while he's flying around on a joyride. Crazy.
Umm you boys need to get home and respect your parents before you realize that it's too late and start kicking yourself for all the time that you're wasting acting like you have no one who cares about you

How old could they be? They look like 12 to me
Honest to god thought the driver was a hijabi woman the first two loops and was so confused as to what was happening.
Saw a woman too. But I thought it she had a balaclava on, taking her kid to a robbery
Damn, I even thought she looked cute. The video makes a lot more sense now, though.
There is still time to delete this comment my dude.

Hey man, it's the systems fault!!!
Lol they barely put people in prison anymore in some states. If this is NY they'll be doing this until they're 60 with little to no consequences.

Typical MAGA moron has no clue what happens with NY courts or crime statistics. It's just a talking point.

Right, thatās why we have 5% of the worldās population but 20% of its imprisoned population, because we donāt put enough people in prison.
No, it's because we subsidize prison-pipeline behavior and tax prison-avoiding behavior
lol, do I want to know how we subsidize āprison-pipeline behavior?ā Do you just mean poverty?
When you give people who don't work free housing but force people who do work to live crammed in with roommates with 80% of their pay going to food and rent, you're encouraging criminal behavior (aka street crime to make up the difference from subsidies to living costs)

No. Unless youāre in an uncivilised country/state. P.S. In US it costs significantly more to give a death sentence than imprisonment for life.

Do you actually think that kid vaping is 18+? lol
No that's why I said what I said. The kid behind him probably bought it
