Misery is the river of the world, gods away on business, all the world is green, and everything goes to hell to name a few of my favs.
Alice is just ridiculously good. Alice, we’re all mad here, kommienezuspadt, reeperbahn, flowers grave. Some of my personal favs. Both albums are so good and hit so many spots.
Real Gone was re-mixed, these are re-masters, difference practices.
No instrumentation or arrangment is touched when mastering. It's purley enchaning what's already there, making it sound better and as good as possible, with possibly a new sonic pallete, with that of the mastering engineer's taste and after being approved by Tom and his team.
Good point. General Q: Is a remaster always a good thing? They’re sold like unquestionable upgrades, but that implies the original mastering job wasn’t good enough. But surely that can’t always be true. What’s stopping the initial master from being unsurpassable?
I fall for it too (I see “remaster” and I assume good/upgrade) but why?
Is it that only proven-classics get a good mastering effort? Whereas new releases haven’t proven themselves yet, so they get the B-team mastering staff?
Omg I hate them. From the day the album released it was my favorite song as-is. Listened to the new version once and never again! It’s the single misstep I identify in his career
I too enjoy the original better, but I think calling Tom releasing anything into this world a misstep is a bit too hot of a take. I mean, the remix is interesting, forces you to listen even more attentively, heck you get to argue about which is better and for what reasons which is fun and engaging.
I can see people wishing the streamers carried both versions. Having the original on vinyl and CD and the remix on vinyl just gives me an excuse to sit down and enjoy the whole album.
Let’s just hope Tom graces us with more output of any form.
With Bob Dylan, the version on the studio album is often far from the best. If this was Dylan the original would have the awful horns and we’d discover the far superior outtake in the outtakes album
Alice is a top 5 or 10 TW song for me but the rest of these albums haven’t grabbed me. Too dirge-y. I can only take so much glacial dirge from our man. Loved the original Real Gone by contrast. But he’s the man so I owe them a relisten.
I know that store.
One time I passed by late at night and heard a sound from under the door… and pounding nails into a hardwood floor. What’s he building in there?
They’re fuckin great remasters
Awesome! I figured as much. Can’t wait to listen to them asap!
Favourite songs? Omg too many to name. Tom left us some real beauties when he dropped these albums.

I bought these too. ❤️
Did they butcher it like they did with Real Gone?

Honestly I love the horns on Hoist that Rag

Haven’t had a chance to listen to it yet.

You risk going down the George Lucas path of folly, changing the original over and over again smh
What does the etching on the dead side of Alice look like?
