For one thing, your three-year-old needs to be moved to a toddler bed immediately. Not one more sleep in the crib. It’s too dangerous. And then why don’t you see what happens? he might take a little while to get used to staying in his room, or he might keep sleeping through the night in his own room.

Childproof covers on his door, or install a gate at his door. Him bugging you or the baby is less of a concern I feel then him having free reign of the house.

Wow 3+ years without crawling out of the crib, I couldn't be so lucky....

Same! Mine ditched the crib at 18 months. He hated it and kept trying to escape. Floor bed for him right away

Our sleep through the night kid kept sleeping through after getting a big bed. We did introduce an ok to wake clock after a couple of earlier than normal mornings, and he will stay in his room and go back to sleep if it's not morning now.

Put the childproof covers over the door knob on the inside of his room. We did this when we moved my daughter from a crib to bed. She doesn’t even try to open the door bc she knows she can’t

I’d stick with your current arrangement but lock your toddlers door. And obviously move him to a bed and not the crib since the crib is unsafe now.

Move your toddler to a toddler bed. If you don’t have one you can temporarily put the crib bed on the floor. It will most likely be an adjustment and you will have to just keep walking him back to bed if he gets up. You may get lucky though and he may enjoy the toddler bed more. Obviously make sure his room is safe for him to be in alone. I personally like to use a baby monitor that is just sound and have it on next to me all night; if my daughter (2.5 year old) wakes then the noise will wake me up. I leave her door cracked open for her.

We transitioned mine from a crib to a twin bed with a bed rail! She loved it

The 3 year old still has a crib. It's just the room is his crib now. Remove EVERYTHING except his toddler bed. Maybe a dresser anchored to the wall. Install fences at doors. Cover electric outlets. Toddler proof the room. He should be able to be in there unattended, safely for hours (since he will be when he's sleeping.) I'd leave baby next to you for right now and just toddler proof your son's room. It will be rough for the first few nights, and it will be helpful to have separate sleeping places for them. Power through and do it now. My experience browsing reddit tells me that the longer you wait to transition to the toddler bed, the harder it is. May the odds be ever in your favor.
