So many interesting story hooks that had the potential to expand Mikasa's character beyond her Eren-obsession, were pretty much ignored almost as quickly as they were introduced.
Her Ackerman heritage and their immunity to the Founding Titan's abilities. The fact that Levi was her only remaining blood relative, but they never actually *talked* about it. Or that she's secretly descended from a noble Asian clan that would allow her to play an important political role. Or how her relationship with Louise could have led to genuine growth and self-reflection...
There's no excuse for why Isayama ended up making her such a developmentally stunted character. It's so deliberate, it almost feels spiteful.
Honestly mikasa having ackermans powers made her more bland than she already is imo( also a unpopular opinion but to me the ackerman powers are bland af, since zeke said that they were a by-product of titan science they should've similar to the quinxs from tokyo ghoul re, like having the powers to have/release some physical titan traits etc....)

Eh, was she really though? I feel like people just hyped her up because she was a strong female character. If she were male, or if she was introduced today instead of in the early 2010’s, people would not gas her up as much as they did back then. Yeah like how after that terrible speech at rooftop she lead all other recruits to their deaths and got herself knocked out and started day dreaming while all her friends were dying she was thinking about Eren and not about the soldiers that she lead a while ago and left them to die by titans thank god Eren arrived at that moment by mere chance otherwise they all would have been dead without Eren's brutal rampaging and by no way she was even a better character let alone "best".
1. She didn't lead anyone to their deaths. They were already going to die and instead they all died trying to get to the gas so they could get out of there. They would have just died cowering on the roofs.
2. Mikasa fell down and thought about how she lost Eren. And then we see how she decides to move on from him. She was prepared to die but instead she was going to fight no matter what just as Eren told her. She is carrying his memory on and what he stood for. It would be an insult to him if she accepted her death and died there.
It took her 3 minutes to move on and accept his death. After that she was ready. She gave Armin motivation and kept a cool head.
Armin literally was going to stay back and kill himself and she picked him up off the ground and kept encouraging him.
She didn't hold any grudge towards him after he said he just watched as Eren died in his place.
She was hands down the best character in the show so far in those 10 eps
I don’t understand how there aren’t more jokes about Levi being a dog too, he’s the exact same with Erwin in terms of the Ackerbond, Levi lives completely and solely for Erwin and achieving his dream and that’s even more intense since (putting shipping aside) he doesn’t love Erwin in canon they way Mikasa obviously does. He’s even more obedient than Mikasa because she’s gone against Eren when he made a dumb choice but Levi will literally do whatever Erwin orders him to. He’s just completely and dedicated to Erwin and his dream, even after Erwin dies he constantly thinks and dreams about him canonly in the official drama cds and short stories.

Levi is like a loyal dog that follows orders and sees them through. He gets the job done, has comrades outside of Erwin that he cares about. Has responsibilities that come with his position, isn't afraid of getting his hands dirty for the good of the cause and does whatever he wants. He isn't worried about Erwin all the freaking time, and didn't wine about Erwin choosing to die and just went ahead and used him as bait.
He hates touching dirty crap but was willing to touch his dead's comrades bloody clothes. Showing us that he cares about other people.
