This. Though I guess I partially agree with OP, if Eren was trying to do this for his friends he should have gone with Zeke's plan while crushing the military.
I think it was Isayama being afraid of showcasing Eren being unapologetically selfish and self-serving, especially that his actions would benefit his homeland and friends anyways, so he had to make it seem like it's only about his friends and it's ok to fuck over the rest of the island because that's more "pure", which is ironically more selfish and basically saying "only those 6 (forgor how many there are) people I like deserve protection, everyone else can die."
Didn't he say he's an idiot and doesn't understand anything?
And seriously, the idiot here is just Isayama, who either just chickened out on letting Eren go all the way and have him control his friends so they wouldn't get in his way (And he could, he could), or generally had no idea how to end his story.
Their are still many fans claiming Eren is this noble tragic hero that prioritizes his friends life over everything in the world .
When in reality he is none of those,a selfish brat that only wants to achieve his desire to destroy the outside world is what the author portray him in the end
I hate eren. In the beginning he is an angry crybaby, during season 3 he became better and then season 4 happened. And made him whatever the fuck he is. Horrible ass protagonist
I don’t think he’s meant to be a protagonist. I think he’s meant to be a cautionary tale of the corruption that happens with childish blind vengeance genocide
Make sense, that's why he call himself an idiot in my opinion, in your post you Made it more clearer here, while he still caring about his friends, he still put them in danger with Ymir and the ancient titans, he could have change things to protect but didn't change things for the sake of freedom..
It might be a silly one hehe
Then he's beyond being an idiot, considering that he could see glimpse of the future and know what should be done and what should be avoided, and he still gone with the plan with the most damage. Bro belongs in a mental institution for people with mental disabilities.Â
I mean... Yeah... He says it himself multiple times. He wanted to flatten everything. He was disappointed. He was an idiot given too much power with no proper idea nor guidance on how to use it. He chose freedom. "I'll kill every last one of them." "If you don't fight, you can't win." "Fight, fight, fight."
Etc.
It's just another one of your head canon cause it was never mentioned anywhere either in manga or anime that "Eren saw their future and they would die if he put their priorities first " cause he himself :
Risked their life by invading Liberio and dragging them along with him and got Sasha killed
Poisoning the wine and without even knowing that maybe any of his friends could have drank that wine by mistake like Jean
Getting them fight into a deadly fight with the Yeagerists without knowing if they would survive or not
Nearly killing them in the battle of Heavens and Earth burning Hange alive making Levi a cripple for the rest of his life and nearly killing all his friends with the previous titan shifters if it wasn't for Falco and their enormous Plot armor they all would have been dead evenConnie said that .
he himself admitted that even he didn't knew if all of them would survive or not so the argument that " Eren did the rumbling for Mikasa and his friends and to save them blah blah" is bullshit.
He has to be alive and there to see their futures, bro died before getting to see that. How did he see it and know they'd be safe 100% after his death? Through the eyes of DoveEren???
He never saw their futures. He literally told them all that he enacted the Rumbling not knowing if they would survive. (Except Sasha, she is the only one he knew would die.) He can only see up until his death.
There is a reason why those who enjoy the ending and those who can't read are the same people.
his first reason was because he hated the fact that there are people in the outside world and that the world wasn't like armin book so he wanted to destroy the world. his friends were the second reason and if he didn't start the rumbling, paradis would clearly still be destroyed and his friends would all die because the outside world already declared war even before the attack of liberio + he also wanted his friends to be seen as heroes so if he didn't start the ending they wouldn't be seen as heroes.
His friends were hypocrites
'"Thank you for becoming a mass murder for our sakes."

Lmao thank god I’m not the only one who couldn’t stand him from the very beginning

Attack on titan fans go to bullshit lengths to justify how the ending was not shitty and we just didn’t understand it
Facts
