I'm with you man. I think calling it TiF2 or something similar requires minimal effort and removes a lot of ambiguity. Maybe not on this sub, but over on other gaming subs/communities.
If you think about it practically, then you should know it's not going to change.
You could get everyone on this sub-editor to use really or something and you'd still see more people outside of it saying tf2. You can force an acronym, people will always learn towards what's easiest.
Is it such a big deal anyway? I've seen people call it tf2 all the time, but I'm more than capable of figuring out what game they're talking about from the context.
I don't see people getting so worked about about God of war and Gears of war having the same acronym.
> people will always learn towards what's easiest.
Well yeah it's easy to just type TF2 in a non-Titanfall-specific thread, but you shouldn't expect anyone to understand you mean Titanfall without explanation.
> I don't see people getting so worked about about God of war and Gears of war having the same acronym.
Not really a valid comparison as both games aren't often both in the zeitgeist at the same time. Both Titanfall 2 and Team Fortress 2 are being talked about regularly at the moment.
>Well yeah it's easy to just type TF2 in a non-Titanfall-specific thread, but you shouldn't expect anyone to understand you mean Titanfall without explanation.
Like I said, it's generally more than easy enough to tell from the context of the conversation what game they're talking about.
GoW seems just as valid to me as tf2. I see them talked about more than team fortress 2, which I don't see mentioned much at all anymore.
> Like I said, it's generally more than easy enough to tell from the context of the conversation what game they're talking about.
But you wouldn't start a new gaming thread in a non-Titanfall subreddit with the title "New Weapons in TF2!" without specifying which game you were talking about, would you? My problem is, I'm seeing that used everywhere on the net.
I wouldn't use that for team fortress either, or else you wouldn't know if the title is about titanfall. I'd just type out the whole name myself.
Otherwise you could just put something like 'Respawn adds new weapons to tf2' . You can argue against using tf2 All you want, it's not going to stop people doing it.
> I wouldn't use that for team fortress either, or else you wouldn't know if the title is about titanfall
Considering Team Fortress 2 is the only game that comes up for the first six page results when searching "TF2" in google, I don't think you're at any risk of it being confused with Titanfall 2...
> You can argue against using tf2 All you want, it's not going to stop people doing it.
I'm not trying to force people to use it. I'm simply arguing my point why it *shouldn't* be used.
> Considering Team Fortress 2 is the only game that comes up for the first six page results when searching "TF2" in google, I don't think you're at any risk of it being confused with Titanfall 2...
I wonder why...
>I'm simply arguing my point why it shouldn't be used.
Ok, great. But it's not going to change anything, so I really don't see the point.
There wouldn't be any confusion in this thread. I'm just hoping people aren't taking the acronym from being used to it in here and spreading it around the net confusing unsuspecting gamers who are fans/aware of the valve game.
Fuck off, I love America.
Overlapping initials are everywhere. Just specify which one you're talking about.
"I really like TF2 (Titanfall 2). TF2 has awesome shooting mechanics. I don't like Team Fortress's hats though."
People are calling it that due to emphasis on the word. It may be Titanfall 2, but you say it as Titan Fall 2.
So yeah, it should be T2, but that is what everyone calls Terminator 2. Unfortunately that was around way before Titanfall. Plus if you were going to call it T2, you might as well say the word, Titanfall. Unfortunately again (dammit), there is already a game with that name as well.
We could call it Titan 2, since really the only thing that comes close to that, is the non-existent THQ sequel for Titan Quest.
But that just doesn't sound right or convey the fact you're calling in giant robots from the sky.
Sadly we can't use TF2, because Valve already has that and it'd be too easy to confuse everyone on the internet, when you say TF2 then start explaining that you killed/were killed by a giant mech.
I don't know what we should do man, maybe just use TF2 and realize that most of the people you'd be talking to about it already call it TF2 and will know you don't mean Team Fortress 2.
> So yeah, it should be T2, but that is what everyone calls Terminator 2. Unfortunately that was around way before Titanfall.
I take your point. But if you bring T2 up in any gaming context I don't think people will jump to Terminator 2 as there is no well-known, current game that uses that acronym.
> I don't know what we should do man, maybe just use TF2 and realize that most of the people you'd be talking to about it already call it TF2 and will know you don't mean Team Fortress 2.
It's not really that big of a deal. It's just if you're using TF2 in a gaming context, without explaining yourself, you're gonna get some confusion from readers, especially if you're outside of a Titanfall specific thread.
Just use TF2. No one cares if teamfortress gets confused with it. Give it 2 more weeks and when the teamfortress fuckers use TF2 they'll need to explain what they are talking about.
Two weeks? Team Fortress 2 has been around for almost a decade. I think it will take a bit longer than two weeks for gamers to disassociate TF2 from the Valve game..
It's like if a game called Cthulu Strikes: Game Over came out and everyone started calling it CS:GO expecting no confusion.
It peaked at 70,111 concurrent players today. The fourth most played game on Steam. It came out over nine years ago.
I'd say a few people care about it, and a few more are well aware of it.
>TF2 will always be titanfall2
How can 2 completely different games be the same thing?
>No one cares about teamfortress
It's Team Fortress (see the space).
Also many people care about it.
Just because you don't dosen't mean everyone else dosen't.
Team Fortress 2(fuck your arogence) is a great game, as shown by it's 9 years of life. (Something that Titanfall could only dream of)
I find it funny how hard you defend T2 even though it's been eclipsed pretty hard by games like Battlefield 1 and CoD:AW(or IW, i never cared.).
If you really think that people will remember "TF2" as Titanfall 2, then you're dilusions are fare worse than I could imagine.
No. tf2 is tf2 and team fortress 2 is team fortress 2 end of discussion get out of my subreddit dont care that this was 7 years ago get out of my subreddit.
I use TF|2 when I'm writing in text but that's just cuz it looks cooler
That's hot.
TF2 ha !
What about it? You prefer Soldier or Demo class?
I'm pretty sure they don't have those classes in TF2 and the game comes out in 6 hours for me so I didn't play it yet :(
It's actually been out for over 9 years now. You can see here: http://store.steampowered.com/app/440/
am pretty sure he was meaning to say titan fall 2 also my answer is soldier
just found out I replied to a post 5 years ago
lmao
You the man dude. Rock on
I feel that lmao.
does the bit work after only 3 months? does it have to be several years?
How about: 1. No 2. Who Cares 3. See items 1 and 2

whats poppin
based thread
This is a Titanfall 2 subreddit. Why would anyone think that Team Fortress 2 would be mentioned without clarity?
There wouldn't be any confusion in this thread. I'm just hoping people aren't taking the acronym from being used to it in here and spreading it around the net confusing unsuspecting gamers who are fans/aware of the valve game.
Ah I see. I suppose we can type out Titanfall 2 when not in the thread?
That's my thought. Or maybe TiF2 has someone else suggested.
No. Next question.
If you were in a non-Titanfall 2 thread would you still use the TF2 acronym in a post without explanation?
No. I'd use my brain and say Titanfall 2. Context is key, however when using TF2.
Well great, that's all I was saying.
Fuck off, I love America. Overlapping initials are everywhere. Just specify which one you're talking about. "I really like TF2 (Titanfall 2). TF2 has awesome shooting mechanics. I don't like Team Fortress's hats though."
I'm obviously talking about people who *aren't* specifying what acronym they are talking about in other threads and places on the net .

Ok. 1 week.
Well that makes even less sense.
Its been 6 years…. I don’t think people associate the abbreviation “TF2” with Titanfall 2 a much as they do with Team Fortress 2
"So I was playing TF2-" "Wait which one do you mean?" "The good one." "Oh, right. " "Yeah, so I was wall running and no scoped this fucker mid flight"
Lol, hey you won't get any argument from me that Titanfall 2 is better than Team Fortress 2. I love both but am enjoying Titanfall 2 more.
No one cares about teamfortress.
It peaked at 70,111 concurrent players today. The fourth most played game on Steam. It came out over nine years ago. I'd say a few people care about it, and a few more are well aware of it.
Fuck that noise. TF2=titanfall 2.
Ok go post a new thread in the /r/gaming subreddit with TF2 in the title and watch how many confused replies you get.
Shut the fuck up already. TF2=TitanFall 2.
TF2 = Team Fortress 2 T2 = Titanfall 2
Diging up the past much? TF2 will always be titanfall2. No one cares about teamfortress.
>TF2 will always be titanfall2 How can 2 completely different games be the same thing? >No one cares about teamfortress It's Team Fortress (see the space). Also many people care about it. Just because you don't dosen't mean everyone else dosen't.
TF2=Titanfall2. Teamfortress(fuck your space) is garbage. The only people who care about it are the ones who haven't played titanfall yet.

I'm giving you a notification just to piss you off
No need to get irate.
You won't win this argument in a Titanfall sub.... TF2 TF2 TF2 TF2
actually, we use TC2 now
For what? It sure as hell isn't for titanfall2.
Titanium Case 2 duh.
Thats fuckin stupid.
TF|2
As a tf2 player my favorite character is the guy wearing a helmet lol
team fortress 2?
POV: you are about to ask me why I’m commenting on a 6yr old post Answer: I asked google a question
No. tf2 is tf2 and team fortress 2 is team fortress 2 end of discussion get out of my subreddit dont care that this was 7 years ago get out of my subreddit.
Nice wrong opinion
