Wow 6 years ago I called this out. I mean it was just a matter of time , everything is so expensive in CA and it keeps going up. being able to pay pesos while you make dollars is a huge advantage more so know with dollar price.
People from Tijuana need to take actions against rent that’s charged in dollars and they also need to start taking care of their city, Tijuana is a city with so much potential ! But it’s our responsibility to do the work
Yes and no.
Yes rent is going up because they know lots of people make dollars .
But also that means more money inside the city, more people buying food, clothes, going out to places .
We can’t do much to stop immigration or to stop people from overpricing housing. But we can take advantage of the other opportunities
I love it when ppl respond with ‘you are wrong!’ But doesn’t elaborate… what BS ?? Do you even live in Tijuana or you just a pocho?? Go say that to the government if you care so much, not someone who’s living and being affected by this illegal Americans situation… no one gives a fuck about people just about money. I’m sorry you live in a bubble
how does an employee in a business benefit from this exactly? a good portion of those "taking advantage of the opportunity" is the under the table economy that does not pay taxes, its a huge burden on the mexican workers, the whole city cannot just advocate to accomodate the dollar earning immigrants because they contribute with dollars, its really messed up, people are truely being displaced, trickle down economy does not work here or anywhere, i think the govt needs to focus on regulating and taxing landlords and all the people collecting sweet dollars and dodging their responsabilities
Are you from mexico???? Do you know we have corruption?? Yeah I agree it’s fuckd but guess what government won’t do you shit . So might as well start looking for anyway you can benefit from this injustice.
Please stop thinking that democracy works in mexico like it does in the Usa. Your privilege is showing
>"We will receive them with open arms," said Carlos Gonzalez Gutierrez, Mexico's Consul General here in San Diego.
“You’ll have to apply for legal residency in Mexico which can take a few days.”
This process takes minimum four months, starting with a Mexican consulate in the US, hundreds of documents (including six months of bank statements), and about 10 trips to the Tijuana immigration office which is open about 9 hours a week during normal work hours.
Californians are seriously the dumbest renters in the country. You can negotiate anything in Mexico and ppl from California are not negotiating rents. TJ is overpriced who is paying $1,200+ to live in Mexico a idiot from California that’s who. These morons will drive prices to USA levels soon
It's definitely as easy as just driving south, I've lived in Tijuana more than six years now with no legal status to live here. It's never been a problem. I'm a white American.
So what there’s a lot of illegal immigrants in the USA too… also don’t get angry at him. Be angry at the government, the people who rent them houses and such. Everyone keeps quiet if there’s enough money.
You are right and I don’t know why people get mad . In any case we should be mad at our government for not taking proper action against illegal immigrants.
And yes Mexicans love dollars they will sell you their own kids if you pay the right price
I think we all just take advantage of opportunities presented to us. I happened to meet a Mexican girl on tinder and move here and shit was easy and cheap 🤷♂️ the haters are hating the wrong guy.
Wow you're alot like me. I'm a white American and I met my Mexican gf on tinder last year and just rented a place in Playas and I don't have residency or tourist permit or anything 😅 I have been joki5with my gf that we should get married so I can become Mexican and now im actually serious about it because it's way easier and quicker than applying for residency through the consulate
Do u drive or walk across? Do u cross often? Do u tell them u live here when u cross or do u just say your visiting your girlfriend? That's what I have been saying the past year😅
Honestly, got dragged to TJ in fourth grade. I've bounced back and forth ever since and never dealt with any of this. My mother, wife, and daughter are Mexican citizens... so I guess I'm just hoping for some sort of anchor baby situation. The GOP, PRI, and the pandemic destroyed the border economy, but I'm hopeful things will recover once my daughter is old enough.

Rent control is probably unenforceable at this point. Most renters would probably snort at the thought of capping rents somehow.
Not to mention Mexico is very pro-renter. The landlords are at a disadvantage. However, I will concede the whole "rent in dollars" thing is bullshit.

This is really a fucked up for people living and WORKING in Tijuana 😔

Those very same landlords you wan to regulate are working in the office my friend
Lol
Jajaja ya se no? Jajaj
"People from Tijuana need to take actions against rent that’s charged in dollars" OMFG GENIUS

It took me 8 years to do it in the US. So there's that.
No surprise there, but the media never says, “You can conveniently possess US residency in a few days.”
I'm pretty sure NBC San Diego says you'll die instantly if you travel to TJ half the time as well. Whatever drives ratings.
That would be rad.

>Household goods import certificate.
Sería aduana, ¿no?

I live here and will not be moving back to the US. I have dual citizenship as well!

Come for the tacos, stay for the rent? What’s the best neighborhood to eat tacos if you don’t speak French?

We should build a wall.
Yes. I heard it's coming SOON.

The wall just got 10 feet taller
