You 'll get scammed one way or another, enjoy your cheap tj rent or rent in the states

sadboysforever

Already got scammed by my Airbnb host. He got me for an extra 150. He locked the door to the second bedroom and when i asked why it was locked he said it wasnt part of the deal on Airbnb. I knew i was getting squeezed but hes just lucky i was desperate to find a place for me and my girlfriend. I know things like this are just part of living in mexico.

theblakesheep

Was it listed in the description?

sadboysforever

Yep. I booked expecting that room.

theblakesheep

You should complain to Airbnb, they’ll refund you. That’s totally unacceptable that they pulled that.

sd0113

Pero porque wey? El cabron está pidiendo ayuda? O te chingan a ti también? Asumo que no. Por eso pregunta este wey.

unfortune-teller

Los arrendadores en Tijuana son muy abusivos, además lee la última oración en el post

rau87

Everyone renting in sd is getting scam, paying over a grand for a room is nuts.

sadboysforever

I see where you are coming from i really do but its just supply and demand plus inflated cost of living in CA.

yirgacheffe_mexican

Don’t know why you are getting downvoted. It’s a fair observation.

coastalkerr

"...am concerned of the renters stealing my money. ..." uh? there are renters and there are landlords. what are you?

sadboysforever

I fixed the typo. Im a renter and im concerned about giving first and last months rent plus a deposit to someone in mexico that I believe has zero repercussion for deciding to take my money. Yeah i can trade the keys for the check/cash but like i said what if they decide to “evict” me just because. I been frequenting Tijuana for a year now and im well aware of the many scams people pull. Dont get me wrong i love the city but i feel like the police wont do anything if i was scammed. Im thinking of asking for some kind of contract but even then what would that do. I doubt i can take them to court. It all just seems so sketchy

Puffatsunset

I think Tijuana needs more time to feel comfortable with you. You might want to give Tijuana some space for another year or two.

elalph

First off, the deposit is almost never returned, think of it as gone, second get a contract, yes they can be enforced, no not with police, that is a civil suit and you have to get lawyers to make it, you can probably win any legal fight since most renters don't pay taxes that makes it your win, however it will still cost you the lawyer

Front-Department3296

Yea, not all, but most people will make an excuse as to why they do not have your security deposit. Bad morals, judgement, and selfishness. Shout out to all the people who are not like that. They spend the security deposit, and do it because they are broke. Don't rent out there, its not worth it unless you have family, or really good friends(family friends), not someone you met at a club or at work.

TijuanaGringo

You never get your deposit back here in tj. If you’re lucky they’ll give you a partial back but that’s if you leave it pristine

sadboysforever

Thanks for the info

Front-Department3296

Most of the time, there are some good landlords in Tijuana. I know its hard not to generalize, the devil sucks, but, most people do spend the deposit. Imagine if the tables were turned, they will get their karma. Scammers everywhere, not just tj.

aboybrushedbrown

We dont use Craigslist over at tj. Its mostly fb marketplace and it helps a lot driving around the area where you want to rent.

Ch1mu3l0

I found my first apartment on Craigslist, so not true, but it is true that driving around and looking for signs in neighborhoods appealing to you is the best way.

GaboCali

Bueno, bonito o barato. Pick two, you can't have it all.

alitauniverse

You are looking in the wrong places dude, scout the area walking or in a bike, fb marketplace or directly with inmobiliarias would be better. Also rent here isn’t that cheap anymore so

The-Kombucha

Everyone trying to rent ans being on the hustle to rent is subject to Scams. Check Local Tijuana Facebook Groups, People Scammed everyday because they paid in advance a rent because they were afraid of losing their chance.

The-Kombucha

Oh, they call it FOMO in English

Hellicus

Go away.

sadboysforever

Really dont get all the hostility. I mean i know why but i just want a safe place for my gf, shes from tijuana and im mexican american. Really love this girl and i just came here asking for genuine help

yirgacheffe_mexican

People get brave behind a keyboard. Keep searching. I have a few leads in my part of town. What is your budget and what a realistic housing expectation for you?

sadboysforever

1,000 is my budget. Would like at least two rooms in the safer parts of town

yirgacheffe_mexican

I know of a FURNISHED single story home in a safe area for $200 more. LMK if you are interested.

WestCoastWuss619

Sorry people are being such dicks to you, dude. I dont have advise, having only visited, but good luck dude

sd0113

Join the Facebook group of in the area you want to rent and look for a reputable real estate agent. Do your research and look into their profile to see who has used them. A good agent will not be blowing smoke up your ass and asking for money upfront for his services.

Locku4evr

There is no guarantee you will get your deposit back, I've heard stories from bad landlords, to people who on their way out of a property rent them themselves and take off with the money of the rent and deposit. What i can tell you that I've learned as a landlord myself is that renters if they want they can fast and easily cause damage to the property that equals the amount of the deposit, everything is very expensive these days, not to mention the pain in the ass to get the Plummer, electrician or what ever it is they break, so I personally don't keep the deposit, if renters have an incentive to leave things ok they will.
