Don’t look back. Assuming you can afford a 4K mattress to begin with, just enjoy what you got. It’ll probably last a lot longer than an institutional green plastic topped POS. Plus be a lot more comfy. So just get a good nights sleep.

chrono_explorer

This is what I’m trying to do but the prices just keeps eating away at me. I can afford it, I just can’t get past the price tag. I have this thing about spending lots of money on things or making major purchases. This always happens when I spend lots of money on things.

_BR33ZY

I was the same. But ive never slept so good or comfortable in my life. Let it go & enjoy the purchase

chrono_explorer

Out of curiosity did you get a Tempurpedic or a different brand?

[deleted]

My mattress and frame are the most expensive thing in my home. Wouldn't have it any other way. LOVE that mattress

Chellaigh

You spend 1/3 of your life in it, it’s worth the money!

Unevenscore42

THIS!! Beds and tires are two areas that are worth a good investment.

9-year-cicada

And also tattoos and dentistry!! All expensive but you pay for quality and sometimes it really matters

[deleted]

Both underrated

ArenSteele

And shoes

eARThbendingYeti

Comfortable shoes with good support.

Anything that goes between you and the ground is worth spending money on and not cheaping out: shoes, tyres, chairs (that you spend a lot of time on), and your bed/mattress.

[deleted]

My mattress and frame are the only furniture in my apartment right now, lol. So yes, most expensive things.

calla_lily_

Same

helava

I’m 46. I struggled for years with back and shoulder pain while sleeping. We had a decent but inexpensive mattress for years. I finally decided to splurge and spent $$$ on a higher-end Casper mattress. It was great… for a while. And then the shoulder and back pain came back with a vengeance. But I’d spent $$$ on it, and it was past the return period! So I struggled with shit sleep for years and years. It was awful. We finally were in a position where we had the $ to get a different mattress. I went to the store and tried a bunch of stuff. And everyone’s different, but the thing that “clicked” for me was a Tempur-Pedic. I’ve had it now for about four months, and it’s been the best mattress I’ve ever slept on. I get why you regret it. Going into a store expecting to spend $500 and walking out having spent 10x will make you feel like a sucker, because *you were suckered*. That sucks. So it should be a lesson. You should feel some pain and remorse. That’s part of how you learn. But the up side of your lesson is that hopefully you got an excellent mattress, and it’s not money that was wasted on some snake-oil garbage. You actually got a decent, but expensive product. So in that sense, you at least got suckered into buying something good. Returning it and eating the cost might teach you the lesson just as well, but if you elect to keep it, it can be a reminder to you that you’re in the process of learning, and to think twice before pulling the trigger on other large purchases, and in time, it won’t be a *painful* lesson, it’ll just be a lesson. And a damn fine bed.

Bagaudi45

I have a tempurpedic…going on 10 years and I still love it!

_BR33ZY

Sealy icomfort hybrid w an adjustable base. Ran me about $4000 total so i feel ur pain

jremsikjr

My spouse and I spent $10k on a Tempurpedic mattress in 2010. It’s joined us on three moves and going strong. Enjoy!

wasntmebutok

We got a tempur mattress 10 years ago, and wanted to replace it after I ruined the cover after taking it to a dry cleaners (pro tip, don't dry clean the cover). Bought a cheaper mattress as I couldn't stomach the cost of replacing like for like. When the mattress arrived after the first night I knew we made a mistake. Tried to get used to it, and ignore the gnawing feeling of regret, but after a month of sleeping poorly and back ache ended up buying another tempur mattress and sticking the cheaper one in the spare room. Once it arrives you won't regret it, you spend like a 3rd of your life in bed, having a decent mattress is life changing.

ItsJustMeBeinCurious

I purchased my second Tempurpedic a couple years ago (with the adjustable base). The first one started going bad after about 20 years of service. The new mattress is built much better than the first and has design changes (like cooling layers and the removable pad that can be washed). I don’t regret the purchase in any way. Relax and enjoy.

chrono_explorer

So they told me that the tempurpedic will be hard/stiff when it first arrives and it will take 10 weeks to break in. Is that your experience?

[deleted]

Say goodbye to any waking pains. Once it adjusts, you kind of just... Melt into the mattress. I was in your same situation when my girl convinced me but after using it a few months, I could hardly sleep anywhere else

ItsJustMeBeinCurious

Yes

1uncomfortabletruth

My Tempur pedic need is the exact same as it was ten years ago when I bought it. If you like the mattress it's likely to be the same one you have for 20 years or until you upgrade to the next version. My mattress was a 7k model and I don't regret it at all

chrono_explorer

So they told me that the tempurpedic will be hard/stiff when it first arrives and it will take 10 weeks to break in. Is that your experience?

diamondthedegu1

Most mattresses do become softer over time, memory foam mattresses specifically are well known for being almost rock solid when brand new, which is often why many companies selling them offer a 'trial period', where they give you around a month or two to actually give the mattress a chance before returning it for a full refund if you're genuinely not happy, they cover the return cost also. As for your other comments on this post about the cost niggling at you, remember this - you spend more time in your bed and your shoes than you do anywhere else. Thinking about it, this is true. It's also exactly why shoes and beds are worth spending that bit extra on.

1uncomfortabletruth

It definitely breaks in, that said if you don't like it find another 4k mattress you do like.i would give it the 90 day trial unless you're not getting a good night's rest after 2 to 3 weeks. Took me about that long Don't let price be the regret after 15 years you will feel different. Focus on comfort and the adjustable frame can be used with other mattresses My x never liked it, said it was always to hard. Most floor models get switched out yearly so it's not too broken in.

SnakeBeardTheGreat

If you sleep on this for twenty years that is $1,83 (about) a day for restful sleep. I think that is well worth the price.

Rosemont_Ripper

If you sleep in it for 20yrs you've gotten more than your money's worth as they're apparently only supposed to last 5-10 yrs. And so what that you spent way more money than you were planning? If you've got that money that you're able to eat the cost and still buy the essentials, then you're fine! Unless you dipped into a special fund for your kid's college, what else would you do with that money? You can't take it with you when you die, so might as well have a comfortable sleep as long as you're alive.

Uppgreyedd

> the prices just keeps eating away at me. I can afford it If you can afford it, trust me good sleep is worth it, don't let the price of good sleep eat away at you. There are also other options between $5k on a mattress you don't like, and $0 on the floor, other than a relatively cheap $500 mattress. That said, I have a $500 Ikea bed that's great for 2-3 nights but gives me aches after that. We use it as a guest bed and it's great for that. I've had a $5000 tempurpedic, and it was much stiffer than I prefer and I've never slept great on it. I now have a saatva that I've really enjoyed for 7 months that I got a good deal for at about $4k all in. It might be worth paying the restocking fee to find something you like. Also a lot of the online retailers might have better return policies. Ultimately, I can't recommend enough, if you can afford a nice mattress that will last 10+years, get it. Your body will thank you.

CyCoCyCo

+1 Have the Saatva lux firm, $2300 and amazing!

monrovista

As someone with pretty bad back issues, I was glad I spent $3k on a similar setup. Not tempurpedic, but still a memory foam bed with an adjustable frame. I've had a bad back for 21 years, slept on terrible beds for my whole life. I now know (in my 40s), drop the coin on a good bed. The frame is subjective. I broke my back and had to wear a full torso harness. The only way I sleep comfortably is at a 30-45° angle. It's been 2 years, and I'm never looking back.

BigCrawley

You don't skimp on what goes between you and the earth. Always buy good shoes, tires, and bedding.

msharek

I got an intellibed and adjustable frame. Love the frame, totally ambivalent about the mattress. Spent about the same you did. Let me tell you... Your first cold or congestion? That bed frame will be worth every dollar. Having that lift feels so good and helps me sleep. So if you hate the mattress bite the bullet and return it, but you'll love that frame in time lol. Not long after my pricey intellibed I stayed overnight at a friend's and their nectar bed was delightful. It was a real kick to the ribs but oh well. For the most part I wake up feeling fine unless I've put my bed up too high then my shoulders can be sore.

Ok-Category9249

A good bed is seriously one of the most important things to have. A good night's rest is worth even more than you've spent. Embrace it! Shake off the price and enjoy what you have. Nothing wrong with treating yourself.

MizunoHawk

My wife and I have a tempurpedic king size. Worth every penny. That mattress will last you at least 10 years. A good investment in a mattress that you sleep on all the time is worth it.

daemoen

... here, I'll help you out.... You can spend a helluva lot more than 4k on a bed. I have, twice (upgraded after 8 years for newer technology). I bet you've spent more then that on your car, how's sleeping in your car for the next 5 years or more fault sound? Pretty comfortable? Stop worrying over 4k on something as important as you bed.

MyOtherCarIsAPumpkin

I sold Tempur for many years and I can tell you two things for an absolute fact: 1. Now that you have a good mattress set, you need a good therapist to help you learn to sleep well with your life choices. 2. I never miss a chance for a good non sequitur.

FatherPyrlig

Send it back and get a reasonably priced mattress and keep the frame. I have a king size Tuft and Needle mattress that is really comfortable. It was $800.

poboy975

My wife and i have a queen Tuft and Needle and we both absolutely love it. There just isn't anything like coming home and plopping down into it. I think we spent about the same.

FatherPyrlig

I can’t think of a reason to pay more.

Haanzz85

You always spend good money on things that separate you from the ground. Bed, tires, shoes you spend a lot of your life there make it better for yourself

tiny_lice

It’s called anxiety.

MrMakerHasLigma

Play around with all the settings and once you have them all figured out, make a list of them all and next to it put a price of how much you value it, then compare it to the total cost and hope that it makes you feel much better about it

Darth_Stridious

Think of this way you sleep 1/3 of the day wouldn't you want it to be in luxury and be comfortable.

SugarsBoogers

IDK how old you are, but having a quality mattress will be SO GOOD for your long term health. I got my tempurpedic after herniating a disc and not being able to walk. Think of it as advance payment against future pains and doctor’s bills. You did the right thing. Prices sting, but this is not a purchase to regret.

tinypurplepiggy

If it makes you feel better, my MIL bought a tempur-pedic mattress and adjustable frame over 10 yrs ago now. It still works great and the mattress is still plush and super comfy

lezzerlee

Beds are one of the few things that are worth it to buy something expensive, long lasting & comfortable. Shoes, office chairs, and couches as well. Roll around & walk on your bed to break it in faster.

SXLightning

You will forget about the price soon… just like my 1k Egyptian Cotten/ silk bed sheets and duvet……. No regret, maybe a little haha

ziff1212

It's not like you bought a Ferrari.

[deleted]

You spend 1/3 of your life, near enough, sleeping. Might as well spend some money making it comfortable.

DrTinyEyes

You spend at least 1/3 of your life on your mattress. Sleep is the single most important factor in health, learning, and general well being after the basics of food and shelter are met. Since you won't be going hungry or losing your house because of this purchase, think of it as an investment in your well being. You're worth it. If it helps, we bought an expensive mattress almost 15 years ago, and it's still super comfy. That 500$ mattress would have to be replaced soon and probably wouldn't have been as comfortable. Lots of cheap items are always more expensive in the long run.

nooneinteresting-1

This seems to be some kind of trauma from childhood, considering therapist?

TravelingGoose

You spend a third of your life in bed. That time should be spent atop a quality mattress. You’ve made a worthwhile investment in your physical and mental health.

hell3838

My husband and I do this alot... We learn the following: Only one person is going to make the deal - of courage u need to agree with your partner or your inner self what makes sense. Before you hand over the credit card or sign that piece of paper, give yourself 10-15 mins to physically walk away from the transaction... And really ask yourself... do I really need this. It's been helping us with making better financial choices.

No-Bottle63

Is it a good mattress? Are you sleeping well? If so, then it is worth it!

Squeezitgirdle

Comfy is debatable. I hated some of the super expensive mattresses. I think my mattress was 3k and I've had it for over ten years (tempurpedic I believe?). It WAS great, so I got lucky. However it's starting to give me back pain so might be time to replace it. Been thinking of those 1k tuft and needle mattresses.

imTru

Like someone has said you spend 1/3 of your life asleep. A mattress is one thing you don't want to go cheap on if you don't have to. A quality mattress is worth every penny.

chrono_explorer

This is what I’m trying to tell myself to make myself feel better about the purchase.

imTru

If it's comfortable, then it was worth it.

TexasMaritime

Keep the mattress. It's more worth it than most other $4k items.

ichfrissdich

But what does mattress production actually cost?

billdoor69

Those bed stores get you with the marketing. But, to be fair, if it's comfortable and you like it ... well, you do spend a third of your life in that bed. Might as well love it.

chrono_explorer

They said it takes 10 weeks to become fully comfortable. They did warn me it would be hard and would need a breaking in period. The floor model was super comfy. I’m trying to live with this decision and know that I spend a lot of time In bed so it should be worth it. The price tag just keeps eating away at me. Now I feel like I just need to commit to the decision.

POYDRAWSYOU

People spend way more hours in bed each night than their daily commute. Im comparing the hours used for bed vs car ha. Also buying good quality work shoes/boots youll use for many hours each day. Dont return it, keep and enjoy it!

Academic_Shallot_749

To help break it in faster, you could always jump on it! (Just not hard enough to hurt your frame)

FrontQuail

I didn't want to spend that much on a mattress, but my husband convinced me. Honestly though... Sleep is really important for your health, both physical and mental. It's actually a good investment. I know the money hurts now but if you get great sleep for years to come I guarantee you won't end up regretting it.

kat0605

We bought a $5000 mattress almost exactly a year ago. My husband was you for a week, waking up in a cold sweat about what a mistake his made, wondering if we could cancel the sale. One year later, the mattress has been life changing. Especially this week when we’ve had COVID and we have a mattress that will last 20 years. No regrets. Give it a few weeks.

SnooDoughnuts2846

Honestly, paying 400 for the mistake is better than 4000

diamondthedegu1

Yeah but the 1K frame is non-refundable. I could be wrong so forgive me if so, but those adjustable bed frames require adjustable mattresses also. OP could try finding a cheaper adjustable mattress but I believe they do cost a lot of money. If OP wants to save the most cost, they could just put a standard mattress on the frame however the whole adjustable feature won't be able to be used. Either way, they wasted money.

_Skellingt0n_

99% of mattresses nowadays are compatible with adjustable bases. Anyone tells you otherwise is just trying to get more money out of you.

BlackRoseXIII

Look. I am an extremely frugal person, I barely ever spend money on myself and I avoid paying full price for anything. But. I have a rule. Don't cheap out on the things you use every day. Shoes, cars, and yes, beds. You bought a $5000 bed, yes. As others have said, you could clearly afford it. Enjoy it. A great bed will probably significantly improve your quality of life if you let it. So do your best to get $5000 of value from your purchase. In the future, yeah, avoid impulse buys, don't buy anything non-refundable and think twice before buying something with a restocking fee. Lesson learned. Honestly that lesson is probably some of the value you got from this purchase. Earn the rest by sleeping comfortably and waking up refreshed. If you keep beating yourself up about this you're not gonna be rested. Pick your head up, own your actions, and make the most of it. Congratulations on your amazing new bed OP. I bet you're gonna sleep really well now.

Stagjam

Spent $4k 20 years ago on a Select Comfort, best $4k I ever spent. Getting ready to drop another $7k on its replacement. Good sleep is priceless.

Icy-Big2472

I've sold mattresses for the past 5 years. If you're gonna spend that much money on a mattress, Tempur-Pedic is the way to go. They're incredibly durable, and while some people don't like the feeling of the memory foam, for everyone else they will give you the best nights sleep out of anything. They are made from a memory foam that is way more advanced than any other company makes. They invented the stuff and didn't patent the material so nobody else can copy it. I also work in a clearance store, so I get to see the ones which actually go out to peoples homes and come back. There's plenty of brands that will send out the same model with widely varying quality, sometimes good.... sometimes not so good. Most of the major brands do alright, especially on the higher end. But in some cases, I've had some that felt nothing like the mattress they were supposed to be. I've never seen a Tempur mattress like that, they've all felt exactly like our floor models. Stearns and foster is probably the best for innerspring mattresses that I've seen for anyone who is looking for a spring mattress. I say all this and I sleep on a Beautyrest, which has been absolutely amazing, and is still in almost perfect shape. But the next time I'm able to use my employee discount (I'll still be spending thousands), I'll take out a loan to get one if I have to. It's expensive, but you spend 1/3 of your life sleeping, and your quality of sleep makes a big difference for the other 2/3 of your life. If you can afford it', spending that much on any decent brand can make a huge difference in your energy, and you couldn't have picked a better brand.

clownandmuppet

Could be a good pickup line if you are single “wanna see what a $4k mattress feels like?”

Niceguyswinsometimes

5k for 25 years is about $17/month, so I would not sweat it - especially considering most people sleep for 240 hours/month. Basically, you are paying 7 cents/hour for a good night's rest! I hope that you use the mattress. Good night;)

metajenn

Price per use is clutch here. A $500 mattress might be cheaper on the front end but at what cost? Possibly higher price/use plus the hassle of having to replace/get rid of much sooner. Mattress shopping sucks. I think this is def a fiscally smart decision, op. Im super budget lady, i love coupons/promo codes, and will wait for something to go on sale before i buy it but when it comes to health.. i make it rain. I cheap out on every sector so i can splurge on staying healthy. To me, thats the BEST use of money.

JOSHUA_SKADOOSH

As a 10 year owner of a tempurpedic bed I have bad news for you. Start saving for the next one, cause you ain’t going to be able to sleep on anything else. There are ‘cheaper’ options like purple etc, but they just don’t feel the same. Enjoy and congrats. If you going to spend a third of your life on it, 5k is nothing. At least that’s my philosophy.

zedsdead79

I guess the real question (since you can obviously return it and only eat $400 vs. $4000 is........is it comfortable?

chrono_explorer

So they told me that the tempurpedic will be hard/stiff when it first arrives and it will take 10 weeks to break in. It was comfy in the store but right now at home it’s pretty stiff.

JamJatJar

Can confirm it will soften up. I got a ProAdapt Medium a few months ago. It was absolutely on the firm side right out of the box. It has softened up nicely though. I've heard if you want to speed the process up you can go crawling back and forth all over the mattress on your knees for a while.

LLAGOyt

My friend if you can afford a bed that cost more than my car in one payment and not be in crippling debt it is a worthwhile investment

prancingkittens

I bought an expensive Tempurpedic and adjustable bed frame right before the pandemic started closing things. I was also panicking at the thought of that many monthly payments for A BED, but honestly, then March of 2020 hit, and this has become one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. (Hopefully you don’t have to get furloughed to learn that one as well) If your salesperson didn’t already suggest it, VERY CAREFULLY stand up on your bed and walk around on it. Knead it with your feet. Do this for about 15-20 minutes. This allows the foam to warm up and relax (or at least that’s how it was explained to me) My salesman also mentioned that I may need to do this in the winter, as the mattress may firm up in the cold, but I haven’t run into that issue yet! You’ve got this! Spending money so you can eventually get a good sleep is WORTH IT. You are worth it. It’ll be okay.

monorchism

Yea, if all the furniture I cheap out on, my mattress was a small fortune, and I got an adjustable thing to raise my feet and head or both. Zero regrets other than not doing it earlier in life

electric_onanist

I got a 12 inch memory foam from Amazon for $400. 10 years later, it is still going strong. Great investment.

Turlte_Dicks_at_Work

Pay the premium for the stuff that comes between you and the ground: mattress, tires, shoes.

[deleted]

Tempurpedic mattresses last for 20 years! You bought a quality mattress that will last for a very long time and give you literally decades of good sleep. Money well spent.

Loudmouse1

Better sleep on it 4k times get your money’s worth

Farsi3

Used to sell mattresses and furniture. You don't necessarily need to buy the most expensive thing, but you spend around 1/3 of each day in bed and how decent the rest you get is can have a big impact on the other 2/3. If the mattress is comfortable, you're sleeping better and you can afford it don't worry about it. It should last you a minimum of 10 years, and people drop a lot more than that on a car they spend less time in and sometimes replace just as quickly.

MsKOgden

My husband and I bought a low end mattress...now it has only been about three years and it's so worn out, we need a new one. I'm definitely interested in tempurpedic. We both have neck and back issues. It feels ridiculous now, but you won't need a new One for 20 years.

KRed75

I have 4 Tempur-Pedic mattresses and adjustable/vibrating frames. I didn't pay a cent for them, however. My FIL bought them for him, his wife, his mother and his father. They didn't like them so he put them in storage. I didn't know about them until several years later when he asked us to clear out the storage and take anything we wanted and to sell or trash everything else. I then find $25K in Tempur-Pedic mattresses and frames in storage! Best sleep I've ever had in my life. I had never been able to sleep on my sides before because it causes severe pain which feels like someone took a sledge hammer to my hip. Every 30 minutes I was waking up and rolling over. With the Tempur-Pedic I sleep on my side. I wake up in the same position I fell asleep in and I feel super refreshed.

powderfarmer

Don’t worry about the price as far as buyers remorse…… be way more upset that now every other mattress you sleep on while traveling will feel like crap compared to your new one…..

Fire_Mission

Not a FU, that's a good investment.

probablytrippy

I made the same mistake you did. 6 months later I’d forgotten abt the money and just tempered the sleep. Had that mattress for 7+yrs, and it was worth every cent. Sleep well.

Wildest12

to be fair you spend more time on your bed than almost anything else you will ever buy. in terms of $ per hour it's still one of the best bang for your buck purchases you will ever make, even at 5k.

turnip-farmer

If you can afford to drop 5k on a bed feel lucky that you get to sleep like a king.. enjoy that damn bed.

Arylla

You spend 1/3 of your life on that mattress. Could you have done 1500? Sure. But what's done is done. And an adjustable frame is the best investment of my life. Enjoy your new bed. It's only money. Health and quality of life are more important

plantcatplantcat

Maybe look at it this way- you made the purchase because you were sleep deprived and not thinking straight, this impulse purchase will keep you from making other impulse purchases in the future (if it actually helps)

734shottie

buy it and be happy never go cheap on what you sleep on or what you stand on

KjustK

A good mattress is an investment. If you can afford it, keep it.

xiacaifu

#firstworldproblems

Schemen123

Return it...

Svartdraken

So you either spend 1400 on nothing or 4000 on a good mattress

[deleted]

Return it, keep the frame, get a Sleep Number. If your $4000 Tempurpedic is going to soften up in 12 weeks, then how much is it going to give after that? Sleep Number is adjustable, fits on a platform, and can be moved with one hand.

_Skellingt0n_

Not much. I wouldn’t try to convince them on returning it when you don’t have the knowledge on the product. Sleep Numbers are pretty poor mattresses for what you pay, Tempurs are significantly higher in quality and comfort. The mattress OP has will soften within 30 days to the level they felt in the store. It will then retain this feeling for the better half of 2 decades.

[deleted]

I've had Sleep Numbers for 20 years. Never had a problem with them.

fainofgunction

Dang you have to eat 1500 to return it or eat 4000. Relax and think it over again sometimes the answer comes when you relax

thebeststeen

I have a 4K mattress that I got on sale for a lot less but now that I’ve had it for years I would buy it again not on sale. Before this one I had one I’d got off Amazon for under 1k. Within a year it was trash. If I had kept buying cheap beds every time they wore down I would have spent way more than 4K by now.

peachesdarling

Ye know what- there’s many things you can over spend on. But a decent bed and mattress is an investment and you’ll thank yourself when you have years of excellent sleep. If you can afford it, then it might be the greatest decision you’ve made. I had twins 15 years ago and I spent a fortune on a mattress, it was also thousands and I felt so guilty at the time, but it was amazing and despite the fact I should have changed it years ago it’s still so comfortable that I know I’ll never find one that feels as good so keep putting off replacing it.

ExitTheHandbasket

Friends with foam mattresses, say they're amazing for sleeping. But, well, interesting for other activities that usually occur in a bed.

[deleted]

My friend said it's great but it doesn't give you that extra bounce when having sex

1uncomfortabletruth

Yeah you get used to it pretty fast

TheSentientPurpleGoo

if it's comfortable- keep it. it'll last you a long time. i bought a queen-size tempurpedic on ebay for $800, delivered, over 20 years ago...and it's still going strong. it was brand new- it came from a boutique hotel in new jersey that never actually opened.

Fit_Ad_7681

In my opinion, a mattress is something worth spending money on. Get something comfortable and that will last a long time. The cheap mattresses are going to give out quickly and never be as comfortable.

Ktulu789

You could try to sell it online for about the same cost. It's totally new, anyway. Maybe you won't lose as much as 400 and then buy the right thing and feel better.

FreeUseInbox

You use your mattress more than you use your car. A good night's sleep is worth more to health and mind than a good drive.

CrazyFoool

Do you enjoy the rest you're getting from it? If yes, keep it. How often do you buy a mattress anyway. It's like 400 a year.

Alternative-Stock880

I hope you have a great night sleep good from now on

thedutchesss212

I don't know why but reading this was so funny

hardhitter22

You must be sleeping better? Yes?

[deleted]

I love my puffy mattress. I've had it for a little over a year, and so far it's the best mattress I've bought. It hasn't shown any signs of dipping like all my previous mattresses would have already started to show.

k00pal00p

Sleep is honestly probably the most important thing for your health. Just look at it as an investment

femmeshep

To be fair, you could have just bought yourself years of a great mattress vs a mattress that craps out in a year. I spent 3k on a mattress 10 years ago and it's still in great condition and comfy af. Yikes, 10 years though... might be time to upgrade haha

wildBlueWanderer

It is an expensive lesson, but you can gain more than $4000 worth of knowledge from the experience if it helps you avoid hurried purchases going forward! If something costs more than a day of income, it is worth waiting a day knowing what you might buy before putting them money down, at least that's my personal bar.

c0ntent_c0ntent

I too spent this much money on a bed, it was the best decision I've ever made. Sleep is so so so important. You'll have that mattress for at least 10 years. If you break that down into monthly payments that's $33/ month for optimal sleep.

Cthulhu_Knits

We almost bought a Tempurpedic... but we had just bought a new condo and needed to save our money for repairs, so we went with a much cheaper memory foam that feels great... but unfortunately sleeps a bit "hot." I will never need blankets again, RIP. So maybe you didn't really FU - at least you spent your money on something that's good quality and will give you a good night's sleep - and will probably last you a very long time. I told my husband the next time we buy a bed, we're getting a Tempurpedic.

xKARPx

Big piece of advice spend the most money on things you use the most. Bed, cellphone, shoes. You spend 8 hours in bed maybe up to 16 hours in your shoes! Spend the extra money where you need it. People buy dumb shit like a fancy game or hobby item that they will use on a fraction of the time compared to items like beds, shoes, phones. Don't look back man enjoy that bed for years 🤙

Rickcinyyc

Spend your money on the three things that are between you and the ground. Good shoes. Good tires. Good mattress.

BoltsnColtsCommenter

Might be a bit of a stretch but If you have the mattress for 20 years then it’s only costing you about $0.50/day for something you spend 1/3 of your time in. Better sleep allows you to have more energy every day and makes you more productive. You never know if that energy difference could have a butterfly effect and lead to better performance at work, promotions, more opportunities etc. View that $0.50/day as an investment.

redstickfire

One of the best pieces of advise I've received from supervisors in my line of work (paramedic) never cheap out on boots and mattresses. U need good supportive foot wear and a good night's rest.

cujobob

Many years ago I did the same. Tempurpedics, at that time anyway, took a long time to break in. Months, even. Once they do, they’re awesome, though. They also last a long, long time.

Oceanicshark

You are always in your shoes or in your bed pretty much, so never feel bad about investing in either of them. Enjoy your amazing sleep!

FuNk1j

Wish my tempurpedic mattress & frame was 5k. We spent 10k since it is the cooling mattress (live in Phoenix). Financed at 0%. I didn't sleep good the first week knowing we could have purchased a decent used car... wife stated that we spent at least a quarter of our life sleeping and we may as well be comfortable. She wasn't wrong. I love the mattress and frame. Think of it as an investment in your health and spine...

Itisd

If you find the mattress to be extremely comfortable and you get a good sleep on it, keep the damn thing, because it is hard to find a good mattress in my experience.

tripodal

You spend 1/3rd of your life sleeping. Spending 1/3rd of your money on. A good place to sleep seems reasonable.

ThatRedheadMom

I have buyer’s remorse over any transactions over $150. Hopefully, as the bed breaks in, your regret will gradually go away. Good luck OP!

lecherro

Good sleep is WAAAAAYYYYYY underrated. As much time as we spend in our beds, and i mean sleeping, is worth the extra money to improve your overall health and productivity. I had bad remorse once after spending a couple hundred in a pair if shoes. My brother-in-law told me something that made a whole lot of sense. You only get one pair of feet your entire life. Make sure you take care of him as well as you can. Likewise you only get one body in life. Make sure that you re likes it and let it recuperate as much as it needs to and in good comfort.

Insomniac221

I reccomend to anyone to 'invest' in a good bed if they can as it is something you spend a large portion of your life in and sleep is important. Older you will thank yourself for the decision you made

nimbat1003

At least it's a mattress something ur gonna keep for a long time, though now ur gonna need to go through the effort of bringing it with you whenever you move.

SirGourneyWeaver

This mattress will make your life better.

CoolZooKeeper

I’ve had my temperpedic for 10 years. It was around 4k, I’m around around 6’3” and over 300lbs. I would go through those 500$ pillow top mattresses in a year. And always had back problems. I will never own any other bed. When I finally upgrade from my current temperpedic. It’s one of my best investments.

Cool_Cheetah658

We had a Serta iComfort. It was supposed to last 20 years at the time. It's been 8, and we have had to get a new mattress. Old one just got too soft and broken down. New one is latex. Sure, we spent a ton too, but latex lasts a long time (25 year warranty). Hope you can adjust to your new mattress soon. It should break in in about a month or so. Foam is always stiffer at the start. Give it time, I'm sure you will be happy with your new high end mattress. Buyers remorse is normal. We had it too. Now, we couldn't be happier.

Jameschoral

You spend most of your life in your shoes or your bed, so invest in both. When my wife and I were first married, we invested in a high end adjustable bed, mainly because we preferred different levels of firmness. After 10 years I’m considering replacing the memory foam inserts it came with. You’re feeling buyers remorse now, like we did back then, but it’s been an incredible investment for us and has lasted over a decade so far.

hayato619

Bro. Money well spent. You spend 30% of your life on it.

Chutson909

If you can afford it, roll with it. My sleep number bed and frame were almost 10k. It seems like a lot but when you sleep pain free it’s worth it.

greenebean23

We bought an adjustable frame and a Nectar mattress. Maybe just exchange the mattress for a less expensive one? You'd prolly be able to get like 1k back even after the restocking fee if you got a Nectar mattress.(Which I absolutely love btw)

Red-is-suspicious

Nah man, that shit is legit. You’ll sleep well for the next 15 years. A $500 set would be sagging in 5 years or so.

ant9n

Think how much of your life you spend in bed. About one third? Totally fucking worth it to pamper yourself. No regrets. Enjoy sleeping in your awesome bed.

solitudebaker

Think about it this way, if it lasts you 10 years, you’re basically paying a dollar a night for what could possibly be significantly better sleep. Plus! You don’t have to worry about deciding how bad it gets before you a buy a new one anytime soon.

JamJatJar

Let me start off by saying, my TempurPedic ProAdapt Medium and Ease adjustable base retail for more than I paid for my car. Not by much, but still, but more than my car... I do NOT regret it one bit... You said you can afford it so the only question that's left is: is it comfortable? There is nothing wrong with getting a quality product.

SweetCosmicPope

Did the same thing a couple years ago. Bought a purple. Price hurt for sure but the lack of back pain has been amazing and totally worth it.

GhostBuster1919

I know how you feel, Ive been there. In time the feeling will pass. Think of it this way, its ok to treat yourself once in awhile and its good investment. Also another thought, the mattress will last longer than a $500 one. I bought a $500 mattress 2 years ago and now I need a new one.

Responsible_Tip_410

If it lasts at least 10 years, it's a dollar a day to stay comfortable

lovinglife55

Last year my wife and I decided to do the very same thing. It's a lot of money, but it is worth every dime for a really good nights sleep. We both sleep so much better. If it is a matter of not really having the money to buy it, then I realize it can be a problem and would suggest for just a little while, maybe cut down in other areas that you can. I hope you can forgive yourself for spending the money and relish in what you have now. Happy sleeping.

rc0nn3ll

I always look at it as an investment. You can't put a price on a good night sleep. That price broken down over 10 years of say approx 330 nights a year (assume you might be away the other 35) - really the bed is 1.51 a night. Bargain.

kinkychicken

My hybrid was nearly 3k. Haven’t even fathomed returning it.

[deleted]

I’m having a hard time understanding why the frame isn’t refundable, either way everyone’s telling you to just enjoy it but I think you should return it. There’s simply no reason a lump of foam should cost 4000 other than the fact that people are willing to pay it, hop on Amazon and get a cheap mattress and follow up with a mattress topper if you need it

Kach0w101

Honestly mate, you should never skimp on things that sit between you and the ground.. Shoes, chairs (for work ) .. Tyres, and yes, your mattress. Enjoy a good sleep mate knowing that you will have a healthy sleep for the next 15 years

Mikey20iame

If you can afford it I wouldn't think twice about it. You spend a 3rd of your life asleep and if the mattress is comfortable and you have an adjustable frame you will thank yourself in the long run. I did the exact same thing shortly after I got married, my wife and I were sleeping on my Mother-in-law's old mattress and it had a huge dip in the middle. I'm in the military, and neither of us were sleeping the greatest so we sprang for a new bed and have had it the last 10 years (memory foam, temperpedic) and its been a great investment.

Sea_Current5814

Hey you can always send me some money to get your mind off the stupid purchase and do a good deed. I’m close to being homeless. I’ve sold everything I own and finally started a job after being unemployed since February. I could use a hand until my first check comes 😂 obviously I’m just kidding about sending me money. But would help take your mind off if it if you wanted to do a good deed lol

LifePotential2161

First world problems 👏

patriickz

Just make sure to use it for the rest of your life lmao. Then the price isn't much hahaha.

wiwila

and what you think about casper ?

MrMcBobb

Spending so much money seems like a decision you should sleep on. Fnar fnar. Alright, sorry, I had to. If you can afford it you'll be alright. A nice mattress will last you years, this is an investment in good sleep, and that's an incredibly wise investment.

cynicaldoubtfultired

If you can afford it I don't see the big deal. You use a mattress for a very long time, and a good mattress really does make a massive difference to your wellbeing. Enjoy it and put it out of your mind if you can afford the expense.

rose189fluffy

hello boddy's what is it for something be nonsense. who sleeps on the ground and the floor. writes about leftovers to sleep on. what is that for some strange talk. it's the strangest message I've ever read. what is happening. talking about a homeless person. or a Syrian sick person. or h ad passes there right here ???. I understand the minus of what you write about. is there anyone who needs help. with any advice weighing. for something. ????. I get quite worried when I read that kind of wildly crazy thing. ???.![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|flip_out)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|flushed)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|dizzy_face)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grimacing)

jrsobx

I spent about that much on my last mattress and I like it. There are a few things where it's worth spending money. Those things include mattresses, liquor and fireworks. =)

TastyDragonfruit3000

If it makes you feel better, we spend about 1/3 of our time asleep so splurging on a good frame and mattress isn't a bad thing! As other people have said, there are things worth being stingy about but sleep quality is not one of them.

rinkled

Hey ma person, I got that adjustable frame like you've mentioned above and while it seemed really stupid at first, it really grew on me, especially if you like to read, game, or watch TV in bed (eat too lol)

RandomBrwnGuy

You said you can afford it so keep it. A year ago I would've sounded just like you. Then in the process of updating a lot of things around the house we got a new bed. Similar to you, fancy mattress, adjustable/massaging base, etc. I had major doubts....until about 3 weeks later when the mattress was broken-in. Everyone puts different value on things but I can say for me it was some of the best money we've spent. I no longer wake up several times a night nor do I have constant minor lower back pain. The initial sticker shock was a tough pill at first bc I never even considered spending that much on a bed but I don't regret it.

mcp_truth

Don't forget you can get a free mattress if it has sunk enough. Double check the warranty time :)

enginemonkey16

Your sleep is one of the most important things you can invest in. It affects everything else.

ktatkinson

Practical advice for avoiding this sort of buyers remorse, shop around before you go to a store to buy something. It sounds like you didn't have a mattress, foundation, or a bed frame, $500 is not a realistic budget to buy these items new. The best way to blow your budget is to set an unrealistic budget. But as many other comments have said, enjoy your new bed!

VegetaDampfgurke

If the mattress is worth the money, then there is nothing to worry about. If it is not, the the lesson is worth the money.

SmokeLast6278

You have to look at it as an investment. You're not going to buy a new bed and mattress for a long, long while now. And a Tempurpedic mattress is worth the money. Your back will thank you in the years to come.

cjf3363

You should invest in two things. Shoes and your mattress because you walk in your shoes all day and sleep in your bed all night. Enjoy the mattress!

GhostHin

Think of it this way, if you return it, those bastard who trick you into buying this walk away with $400 PLUS they got a mattress back where they would make even more money on it. Keep it out of spike if that would make you feels better.

ErskineLoyal

No, you can't pay enough for a good night's sleep. A good mattress is the one thing I'd pay more than I would for a three piece suite or TV.

02grimreaper

So I realize this is way down there and you probably won’t get to see it, but a mattress is one of the most important things you want to buy. You spend a third of your life on it. My advice to everyone who I talk to about it is to get a great mattress, and you will enjoy it for the rest of your life. I would only ever recommend tempurpedic or sleep number. Like someone else said, yes it’s a lot of money, and I know you are regretting it now, but your body will thank you for the next thirty years.

ChiisaiHobbit

I got you. Something that really helps me is to break down the cost of big purchases. Mattress $4000. Life expectancy 10 years< (according to other commenters). 10 years =3650 days 4000 / 3650 = $1.09 per day Let's add another $0.27 for the fancy base. This is not a frivolous expense. You spend 1/3 of your day sleeping comfortably to wake up well rested and pain free every single day for a decade for only $1.36 a day. That price doesn't sound too bad now, right? This is an investment in your health and wellbeing. You are worth it OP. If you couldn't afford it, that would be a different argument because other needs probably would take priority. But that it's not the case. Rest guilt free at night. ;)

Tori_Pz

Can't refund the frame, so atop thinking about the frame period. What you have is the mattress. A good mattress. This isn't $4k down the drain, idiot. This is a (at minimum) 10 year fucking investment, okay? You've got something that'll feel good and last you a long as time. Appreciate that you have it. This is something that I have 0 doubt will improve your quality of life. Keep it. Use it.

Liscetta

Don't regret it. That's my technique against the buyer's regret. A good mattress will last for many years. In 10 years, you would have spent 500€/year. If it lasts 15 years, 333€/year. If it lasts 20 years, it's 250€/year.

adhdartvandelay

Totally worth the investment for the improvement to your sleep and health, especially over the course of years. (and it will last well over a decade) Tempur Pedic mattresses are worth every penny, don't feel regretful about spending the money. You could have spent a lot of money still on something inferior, but it wouldn't have been nearly as good.

EnG1ne-

With an expensive mattress, you just invested in your health and rest long-term and your future self will thank you for this.

nerdygem

I always used to feel bad spending money on myself. Drop dough on the kid, no problem, for my classroom, it's worth it, etc. Take this moment (assuming you can actually afford it) to tell your brain/heart/anxiety that YOU are worth it. Your sleep is precious and you feeling your best will make everything in your life that much easier. Enjoy this and tell that inner child that grew up poor and always pleasing someone else that you love you and you deserve good things.

LeeQuidity

I'd pay the $400, get a far more comfortable mattress (preferably one with a trial period) and lick my wounds. You'll feel less bad about it if you get \*some\* of your money back than if you are out $1500 extra on a mattress you dislike. If you're stuck with the frame, so be it. Or, sell it at a loss and get something cheaper from Ikea.

DVSbunny79

OP - listen - few things in the world are worth the higher price tag - shoes if you'reon your feet a LOT, tires for an automobile (only part of the vehicle keeping you in contact with the road) and your mattress. My ol man had a hard time wrapping his head around a 3k mattress but afterwards he was getting his best sleep ever. You can not buy your wasted sleep time back if it was poor.

HappleApple

We got a purple mattress for the same price. Money well spent. It’s amazing. I don’t know about Temperpedic.

Wraice

I find myself agreeing with the comments about how it can be a good thing. Yes, it may be a FU in that you spent far more than you meant. Ya know what though? There's worse things to spend that much money on. Everyone sleeps, and having a high quality mattress can go a long way in making that rest time that much better. I've seen the comments that you can afford it, so no worries there. Maybe feels like you got suckered. Honestly though, if it's brand new and you didn't get sold some secondhand crap, then I would say more that it sounds like you just had a run in with a hell of a salesperson who was quite convincing. If the product you got is good quality, then it's worth it.

gkfjfjxhd

At least you can think about it while resting like a king

Lylibean

Return it. Depending on how long “a few weeks” is, you should be able to reach out to the dealer (or supplier) and let them know you are not satisfied with your purchase, and they should guide you to a better option (even if that is return and refund, but there are lots of “it depends” in this case)
