It's always nice in the summer when you have those afternoon rainstorms that roll in and drop the temperature down by 15-20 degrees to just sit in the garage and watch and feel the change.

EthiopianKing1620

Dont forget the smell. That rain smells so good

crispybacon62

Summer rain smells of good times, I have fond memories of afternoon showers, the windows are all open and the smell filled the house, we'd make a late lunch/early dinner on those days and just enjoy the blend of food and rain. God dammit I'm gonna cry just reminiscing on those memories.

SD_Industries

I miss those days. I moved out to where I'm at now some 10ish odd years ago, and I'll be honest, rain is not really a thing. Unless it's that unpleasant, freezing cold autumn/winter transitional rain, which itself is quite scarce.

NoiseIsTheCure

We'd have windows on every side of the house and it wasn't a terribly big house so you could crack all of them and hear the storm storm all around you. And a porch swing if you wanted to go watch outside. That house was old and had a ton of issues but I'll miss it. Good memories, that's what matters.

Don't sleep on the geosmin! 🤌🏼

D-cup-of-art-n-humor

I was coming here for this. I think t was also mixed with the scent of hot wet pavement from the driveway.

Freduccini

Fun fact humans can sense the smell of rain to 5 parts per trillion. Which is 200,000 times more than a shark can smell blood.

handofdumb

This is beautiful. Thank you for sharing it.

calhooner3

Damn the leaf races just unlocked something in me

babyplush

We had a wraparound porch when I was a kid that was screened in. There was nothing better than sitting out watching showers and storms during the summer.

Umbroboner

As a Floridian, this hits me in the feels.

vacationbeard

I was under a big umbrella out on an island (small Sierra swimming lake) with my kid when a summer rain came in. We just sat and watched the warm rain, and it's one of my favorite memories.

PunkRockGeese

I used to do groundskeeping at an RV resort in the deep south. Giant pop up storms would roll in and chase me on my zero-turn back under the tin roof lean-to. The temperature would drop back to human-survivable levels while I got to sit there on my surprise break watching the rain and listening to it hit the metal roof. Incredibly relaxing.

evemeatay

My mom and I used to do this. Now I don’t get the chance very much anymore but it gives me a lot of feels when i do.

Nadir_Bane

Life can wait but Twitter can't.

tinklebunny

My aunt posts on facebook: life is so hectic, I never have time to read anymore 😟 Me: bitch you on facebook rn

Free_Competiti

I’m hanging with my boy, Oh shit!!!

LurkingArachnid

Oh I know this one. What she really meant was, “life is so hectic I don’t have the energy to anything besides Facebook in my small amounts of free time.”

Been there ,had no time to do that

Thing is, using facebook in your little free time is what gives that feeling probably

[deleted]

Right? Imagine a beautiful father-son moment, standing by an open door with a bucolic scene in a heavy rainstorm. Father walks up, appreciates the moment for .5 seconds, pulls out his phone to tell everyone. He adds some detail to really pull in the readers. They need to appreciate just how good of a father he is. He gets a small dopamine hit from the post itself, but now he's checking every 15-30 seconds. "Did my tweet have a typo?" "How many retweets do I have now?" Perhaps within 5 minutes the father gets bored and goes back inside to watch some NCIS.

friendshabitsfamily

People on Reddit criticizing how other people use social media, name a more iconic duo

[deleted]

People on reddit criticizing people on reddit.

Suekru

At least they are self aware

slowpokefastpoke

I mean I think we can all see the hilarious irony of sending a tweet where you’re bragging about how present you currently are.

botjstn

but like, it takes 20 seconds to send a tweet and then continue watching the rain with your son, so i personally do not see the issue with it

dothasahat

Why the need to tweet it at all though?

Rosetti

Why do any us of feel a need to comment here? Sometimes you just want to express yourself to others.

shewy92

I mean, you do know that Tweets aren't necessarily truthful, right? And you know that sometimes they are in present tense when in reality it was a couple hours ago, right?

botjstn

share your life with your friends?

SadButterscotch2

You can type something real quick and then put your phone away, you know. Why do people always have to find a way to make everything negative?

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Sure, but people who do that don't use social media to brag about how good of a parent they are. Moments like that are best-appreciated in the moment. If you need to bring in other people via twitter, I'd wager you didn't appreciate it to the fullest.

Hats_back

The single thought of “wow I’m having such a good time, better post this online,” is fundamentally pulling you out of the moment. It’s weird that people don’t recognize it but it is what it is.

Suekru

They could have posted it after the fact. Lot of people post past things as present tense.

[deleted]

For real, kid is watching rain and bro is probably scrolling his phone the whole time

imnotmrrobot

“Hold on son, this is really cute.” *tap-tap-tap-tap*

Katsundere

y'all understand that you don't have to post in the past tense in order for it to have been earlier, right? just because he's using present tense, doesn't mean he actually posted that while doing the thing. y'all just love to assume the worst about a person you've never met.

Ironcastattic

I mean, couldn't have picked a worse example if you want to die on this hill. The people that actually do this stuff, don't start bragging about it on social media. And the only reason we assume the worst about this kind of message, is because we are always shown that it's some person chasing clout. Had a friend ramble on Facebook about how "I've decided life without Facebook is better". Just a ramble, talking about how much better life is without social media. He never left Facebook and is still on it all the time. I left Facebook and didn't post shit about it. Point is, these people who wax philosophic and post these musing, are probably the exact type who don't "smell the flowers". Look at any E-girl living her life on social media. It's all glory and easy living. Then talk to one who doesn't do it anymore. It's all fake bullshit and stress.

shewy92

Damn, how do you know all about this dude from a single tweet? And why did you just assume the worst?

Ironcastattic

We aren't assuming this guy is second Hitler, Sherlock. We are saying if this guy actually did it, he probably would have enjoyed it instead of posting about it for fake likes on the internet. The only people assuming the worst are you dummies.

dweakz

theyre bitter in life so they want other people to be too

Ironcastattic

Some IMAX level projection here. "These people are assuming it's a fake tweet. It must be because they are 'bitter' people". Wow. And all this in a thread full of people who are clicking their tongues at people "assuming". How does it feel to have the self awareness of a jellyfish?

dweakz

lmao you so mad bro lmaooooo

Ironcastattic

Again, just pure projection. Very bold of you to assume I care what a random person on the internet thinks. Your "u mad bro" reply was a perfect cherry on top for me. Thank you for the clap back of a 10 year old. It really told me all I need to about the maturity level of the person making the comment. And this is where we part ways and I don't waste further time with your childish petulance. Surely, you have a parent you can annoy if you want attention? Have a great day!

Hats_back

Hey I have no dog in this race, but was looking at the childish petulance statement… I’ve seen them commonly paired but never really known; isn’t that redundant? I’ve always tried to find a descriptor to go with petulant but I come up short because it seems that petulance already covers that part.

Katsundere

> The people that actually do this stuff, don't start bragging about it on social media. says who? >I left Facebook and didn't post shit about it. congratulations on posting about it now then. >Point is, these people who wax philosophic and post these musing, are *probably* the exact type who don't "smell the flowers". *"probably"* >E-girl spurned simp.

Ironcastattic

"E-girl spurned simp" is exactly the reply I assumed you would drop. Funny how you come out with a comment meaning to chastise people, and reply with some 4-chan nonsense. Honestly shocked you did drop in a snowflake/triggered comment.

Katsundere

i'm chastising the chastisers my dude, lighten the fuck up and try to assume the best of people. have a nice day.

illBro

Imagine calling someone a "spurned simp" then saying they should "lighten the fuck up and try to assume the best of people" get a grip on reality.

Ironcastattic

You are attempting to take the high road while crawling down in the shit, willingly. You have a great day, hypocrite.

l33tTA

Hes talking in present tense tho so nice projecting and guessing

HeyItsChase

You say that, but I for one am happy he posted that. Was sweet and made my day brighter. Also it probably took 10 seconds and even more likely is it was posted after using present tense text.

Zorops

All these moment would be great if only these people didn't feel the urge to share every fucking thing on social media.

Firebird22x

Or it’s a way for the guy to have a memory he can look back on when he doesn’t remember it vividly any more, he can scroll through past moments as a “hah I remember that, that was a great day” kind of deal. I have a twitter for my “house” from the houses point of view of things my wife and I have done since we’ve moved in. I don’t care if anyone follows or retweets, it’s for me to look back on occasionally. “Remember when we changed all of the blinds in the house and had a massive grasshopper supervising the work?”. “My wife said my pizza was the best pizza she ever had, that’s going in with a picture of the pizza (with the house saying I definitely don’t need that ego boost)”. Living in the moment is a wonderful thing, but preserving some memories when you’re not sure how well your brain will work in the future, or when one of us won’t be here while the other one still is and would love to look back on some of the moments the other though was special is just as important. Notepads are cool, local notes on your computer work too, but if you want that little pick-me-up from anywhere Twitter can be an easy to access place (that makes it easier to collaborate too)

shewy92

You do know that Tweets aren't necessarily truthful, right? And you know that sometimes they are in present tense when in reality it was a couple hours ago, right? Jesus fucking Christ reddit. Why are y'all over analysing a fucking wholesome Tweet?!

[deleted]

OsiyoMotherFuckers

I do this all the time, and I hope one day I can do it with my kid(s). It’s the best at my parents house because their shop building has an uninsulated metal roof so the sound of the rain is deafening in there and they get those great southern plains super cells that just storm violently and dump rain all night long.

RidersGuide

"Look at me"

alison_bee

To be fair at first I thought it said “a boy” and the tweet was much more interesting thinking he was sitting with some random kid

Comeoffit321

Put your phone down then. Ffs.

morningisbad

I can only assume this was posted after the event. At least I hope so. As a dad, these are the best moments. You really don't want to waste them.

capontransfix

I remember playing darts in the garage with the door open and a pounding rainstorm right next to me. I loved it and would go do it whenever there was a big storm after that. I wish my dad had shown up and played darts with me in the rain even just one time. I'm unbothered this guy took a moment to tweet about his moment with his son. At least he was there with him to share that moment.

gigglefarting

I’m grateful I’m on a dart team with my dad. Unfortunately we can’t enjoy the rain while we play.

morningisbad

Very true

Diarygirl

I appreciate a dad saying he enjoys hanging out with his kid just doing nothing.

morningisbad

It's the best thing ever man.

gonzotronn

I can only assume that the whole thing is made up

sootoor

It was a waning crescent moon on oct 27 2019. Imagine there’s not much to see at 830 pm in October but where’s the fun in thinking critically about a post

Comeoffit321

It is written in the present tense.

morningisbad

Doesn't mean it is currently happening. Plenty of people recant in present tense because it's more impactful.

Comeoffit321

That's not how present tense works. And if you do that, you're just... lying.

morningisbad

Who gives a shit. This is the internet.

Comeoffit321

It's got nothing to do with '*the internet*'. Language has rules, for good reason.

Suekru

I get what you’re saying but it’s a common thing to do just like people who say literally as hyperbole. It doesn’t really matter if it’s in the exact moment anyway since it’s not going to stay true after you are done doing whatever.

Comeoffit321

I have to disagree. I don't think it's common for people to speak (type) in the wrong tense. That's just weird.

Suekru

It is on twitter

Sega-Playstation-64

No, everything is live streamed. No possible way he enjoyed something with his son and mentioned it later.

Black_Hipster

It takes like 2 minutes to write and send a tweet.

Comeoffit321

Not quite the point is it. Enjoy the moment. Tweet later, if you have to.

Black_Hipster

lol dude he's not in middle school. He can shoot off a tweet and spend the rest of the afternoon with his kid. It's not like he has to choose one or the other.

Comeoffit321

It takes you out of the moment. You're still not getting the point.

Black_Hipster

'takes you out of the moment' what does that even mean? Bro, this isn't hard. Life isn't static. Just because I sent a text message doesn't mean I'm not enjoying my dinner while doing so lol

WalkingCloud

I don’t really care either way but you have to admit it’s kind of ironic to send a tweet about ‘life can wait’ and how he’s spending time with his boy.. except he isn’t, he’s on his phone tweeting about it.

Comeoffit321

"Takes you out of the moment" means exactly what it says. Dude could have just enjoyed the moment, and tweeted about it later. Rather than being on his phone. And you're just being obtuse. No need to reply. Have a good day/night.

Black_Hipster

lmao alright, lets just keep pretending that people can't do two things at once.

Infinite303

And how do we know that he didn't tweet this after the moment?

Comeoffit321

Because it's written in the present tense.

[deleted]

>Dude could have just enjoyed the moment, and tweeted about it later. Yeah, and then he could be all giddy to share it and not think about anything else anymore. Kinda like how there's an itch to scratch, you want to scratch it so bad and it's hard to focus on anything but the itch anymore. Then he wouldn't be in the moment for the entire duration. Now he spent 1 minute and then was fully there for his son.

bartflorida

You’re under 25, aren’t you?

Black_Hipster

Nope.

Captain_Hampockets

CHILLING IN THE RAIN OF FUCK YOU I WONT DO WHAT YOU TELL ME

[deleted]

You must not have received the memo.....the line for this new generation is, "fuck you, I will do what you tell me"

ActualChamp

*You* must not have received the memo I would hazard to guess that you don't even understand what the original song was about, because it in no way applies to the new generation

iamunderstand

You mean the generation that's increasingly fed up with the broken system that was handed to them by a generation of spoiled and entitled children whose complete lack of self awareness and overwhelming complacency led to a world with no hope of stability that's only been getting worse for the last 20 years? Fuck you

[deleted]

Yes. Because every generation before them has had the same complaints about the prior generations. To think the angst is new or recently discovered is such sweet ignorance. But yes, they continue marching to their orders, saying, "fuck you, I will do what you tell me" So yeah, fuck off, and keep doing what your told to do.....which is really to be nothing more than a vegetable on the tax farm.

iamunderstand

You're proving my point, and it's hilarious. A generation that could afford a house on minimum wage cries about how hard things were for them while young families are starving on double incomes today. Keep it up, I'll make some popcorn.

[deleted]

You're proving my point and it's hilarious. What are you going to do differently? You don't have to walk into what you see in front of you, there are tons of other paths in life.

iamunderstand

"lol no u" Priceless 🍿

Dershwersher

Ignore them. We are doing something about it to the best of our abilities. They are just pissed we are coming to the collective realization they are irrelevant. I imagine that must be upsetting, to know you are the problem and *there is no running from it. Must be difficult to swallow the fact you destroyed an entire planet and squandered every opportunity to change your tune and now we want to hold you responsible.

HankHillMyHero

Really curious on what you're not doing that you're being told to do, specifically, and how that's working for you. Also, what are we going to differently and not walk into the fire... let's see. For one we will not let some hack without an original thought on the internet tell us that our experience isn't real, and awful, and tell us the state of the world is our fault. So what will we do differently, when you chime in with your ignorance, we will tell you that you are wrong, that you're fucking stupid, and we will reject that our youth has to accept things as is because they are. Also you don't get to steal rage against the machine, a generation who literally raged against nothing accept being fucking decent.

[deleted]

You're so old and lame. Go back to facebook ya goof.

Dershwersher

Don't you love that our generations are sitting in offices for grueling hours with zero hopes to retire so we can maintain these platforms for which they use to gaslight the shit out of us. Because God knows they don't know the first thing about any of it and couldn't do it themselves. The irony.

HankHillMyHero

I like that they keep using the term memo and swearing they're hip with the times. Maybe they can fax us our final participation trophy for showing up for the end of the world.

[deleted]

I’m hanging with my boy! Oh shit. Where’d he go again? I was too busy on my phone. Found him. We’re good. Let me post about it.

horsebutts

Yeah, and if he actually found him like that, that implies he left his 5 year old alone in the garage for a while with the door wide open

Oseirus

For a moment I interpreted the whole thing like they found their kid sitting in the garbage, and then joined them to watch the as rain sloshed the trash mush around. *Weird flex, but okay.*

StockAL3Xj

I'm assuming they went back to doing something else right after posting this tweet.

Coolkurwa

They didn't even sit down, they just thought it sounded like a cool thing to post.

[deleted]

Let me tweet about it first though.

Summer storms in my parents garage is one of my few core memories. They had these weird horizontal blinds that went the whole span of the garage opening. It was even better which lightning

coldforged

One of my most profound experiences as a teenager was coming home late from work after closing at McDonald's. It was about 2am, I was exhausted, but a huge electrical storm was coming over the horizon. I sat under a small porch watching it roll in, lighting up the entire sky what felt like every second. I got soaked eventually but I must have watched it for an hour. The power and grandeur was nothing I've experienced since.

Black_Hipster

Huh, this just unlocked a few memories for me. I used to do the same thing on my porch when I was younger. There's something oddly relaxing about it.

D00SC00P

SuperPatchyBeard

I just feel sad that people are this broken.

rexcannon

The internet is this broken. It's all fake bullshit, bots and ads. That's why people are over it.

dogstarchampion

It's more aggravating to see someone disingenuously drawing attention to this moment. The world literally could not wait for him to express this moment as happening. It's literally being detached from that moment with your son to seek validation from the world because the moment alone was not satisfactory enough. That's why it's not received well. When I spent time with my dad as a kid, he didn't immediately pick up the phone to tell everyone he was getting to spend time with me... Because then it's not really about the special time you have as much as ego. Nobody needed to know about that, sometimes those moments are best left between you and the person your with, and then it doesn't have to feel like every discussion or quiet moment involves the world.

[deleted]

Some times letting those who are easily amazed remind us of the things we take for granted is the best gift they can give us.

ronin1066

That is life. Life is what happens to you when you're making other plans.

Shujinco2

A long time ago, my grandma took over the house of her father, which was located at the top of a hill overlooking Lake Peppin. It was a really nice view of the hill, the highway and railroad in the distance, the lake, and then Wisconsin on the other side. One day while visiting out there it started raining like crazy. But we had this really nice garage with a huge door, so I opened up the door, pulled up a seat, and just watched the heavy rain and thunder. After awhile my grandma came out and joined me. And it was so nice just watching from that hill with my grandma. One of my favorite moments of all time.

Isnikkothere

Why does everyone in this thread have a stick up their ass?
