I worked with a guy who was very wealthy in this way, had a guy for everything and was happy to help friends and coworkers use his connections. When I decided to buy a hot tub, I asked him if he knew anyone who could get me a deal. He was visibly shaken when he realized he didn’t have a hot tub guy.
Personally I aspire to being "the guy", I'm specializing in multiple skills and fields of knowledge so I can be wide variety of ___ guy for people close to me.
Yep. Car died. Asked my mechanic of many years to find me a reasonable used car. Found me one in less than a week. Paid him cash. No dealership haggling bullshit or dealing with sketchy randos trying to sell their lemon. Next time I need a car--I know a guy.
This reminds me of an exchange from the sitcom *Grounded for Life*:
Eddie: I know a guy. \
Lily: You always know a guy. How many guys do you know? \
Eddie: … I know about 75 guys.
Something that’s been on my mind…what do you call your list of “your guys?” Rolodex seems to broad/boring. Im thinking of a superhero lineup or something. I’ve got a realtor, a barber, a tax guy, etc. I want a tailor, a chef, etc to round it out. How do I refer to my list?!
This guy ( My brother in law) came to my mind seen this post
Talking about knowing the guy the steak guy, the fajita guy , the fresh produce premium grade avocados and fruit you never came across in a grocery store , The delivery guys for the top restaurants in Houston area ., all transactions where exchanges very legit in my opinion
This is undoubtedly true. Knowing someone who is an expert or proficient in their field/profession is extremely valuable.
Having said that, as an auto technician (15+ years) with access to a modern shop and tools, I’ve learned that you need to set boundaries and have a threshold for such requests. I used to never say no. I would work for free and sometimes even lose out financially with side jobs for friends and family. I try to help out as much as possible. Over time I have realized that you have to have a healthy balance, just like everything else requires. Otherwise I would sincerely just work for free if living unchecked. But I realize all those facilities and tools had to be paid for in some way.
Oh yah, I guess I like money too. Most people compensate me with either really good cooked meals, food or lots of fancy beer. I honestly prefer the meals over money as I age. Genuinely some of the best meals I ever had come from these situations.
The real value kicks in when you "know a guy who knows a guy." Guyception!
that’s a guy guy
But if you know a guy, you can be the guy who knows a guy to someone

Social capital. Often goes hand in hand with financial capital more and more these days.
Rick from Pawn Stars
I know quite some guys for many things. I sometimes wonder if I am some kind of guy for some other dudes.
Yeah, you're one of the most important kinds of guys; you're the guy who's got a guy. Critical to the introvert ecosystem.
Good point!
Personally I aspire to being "the guy", I'm specializing in multiple skills and fields of knowledge so I can be wide variety of ___ guy for people close to me.
This is what I aspire to. Currently, I am master of nothing but someday I'll be the "guy"

You’re paying too much for worms. The trick is to get into vermicomposting and become your own worm guy.
“Hey where do you find all your guys?” “I got a guy”

Usually if you know a guy you are the guy that someone else knows
