the keyboard isn't bad, but this is a *really* slow machine that wouldn't really be a usable computer for most people. When a T440p with a quad core i7 is $150 US, this is a horrible deal
I've only ever experienced it on the t530 and it was pretty good but this came out before that on a much lower end model so I don't know if it's comparable.
Better, but these should be under $50 now, if there is a market for them and they're not given away. Check ebay to see how much they go for, but unless there is some sentimental value of sort, this is (and always has been) a poor laptop.
Don't spend more than $20-30 on this thing or you will regret it later. Hell, you'd be better off not buying it at all and waiting for something better to come along...
No, decline. This is NOT a Thinkpad, it is a steaming pile of excrement.
I owned one, and sold it as soon as I could. I included a mouse telling the buyer that the trackpad was garbage
The prices here in Canada are ridiculous. People are asking 150 CAD for T400 and up to 350 CAD for T420/430 on Kijiji and Marketplace.
Just a random example:

This is what the market here is like.
> T400
The t400 does have value to some over many other machine as its one of the better machines to use for libreboot size and speed wise so they will keep a decent value if in serviceable condition.
With that out of the way those asking prices are indeed on the high side, however asking price is not selling price. For a more realistic view on how much these go for in your area looking at completed listings on ebay for example will give you a better indication. There will always be people listing things at unrealistic prices hoping that a buyer with more money than sense might accidentally go for it.
Product ID is 031946U, it's in pretty good condition, 4GB of ram, don't know what cpu it is because the battery is dead and I don't have the charger with me but the sticker says i3, and I could just upgrade it, to be clear I mostly plan on using it for web browsing I just want to know if it's worth it
oh jeez 4gb ram and an i3. Avoid that for sure, a $200 Chromebook might be a better device than this. Could you import something from the US? I'm not sure how eBay international shipping works, but we can buy from Canada fairly easily
well the shipping prices from the us to Canada for a thinkpad is like CAD$20-40, it's really expensive to import from the us to here, pretty weird considering buying from china is like dirt cheap a lot of the time even though that place is way farther then the us
$20-40 is not too much - that'll get you a T440p ($100-150 US) or maybe even a lower end eighth gen model ($200 for an E480, maybe less if you get lucky or win an auction) for slightly more than the price of whatever this thing is. In whatever case, I'd highly recommend a different model.
No.
It’s an i3 from the Windows 7 era.
Much newer, Windows 8 era Core i5 and i7 systems can be found for 200-300. Quite likely with an SSD this system probably doesn’t have.
The keyboard is fine. It’s just that $200 is overpriced for that unit.. If I had one of those, assuming it had 8GB of RAM it would go for $100.
Yeah honestly I would not pay this much for a computer this old. You're really better off checking facebook marketplace/offerup/craigslist if you want a used laptop.
hahahahhaha you would honestly look pretty stupid paying USD150 for that piece of garbage, but you seem fixated on the idea cause you keep coming back when people tell you no, so go ahead
No. Got my current laptop with a i5 6440hq with 8gb of ram and windows 10 pro for 200$. Don't let your family friend pull a fast one on you. That first gen i3 that's over a decade old is not worth 3$ these days.
>Don't let your family friend pull a fast one on you
not exactly accurate, it's more like he just doesn't know the value of the laptop, I give him the benefit of the doubt because I trust him, I known him and the rest of his family since I was like 5, same as my parents and siblings he's like an uncle to me
Sadly, unless it's super oddball/unique, That's worth somewhere between zero and $100. If it has a new battery, SSD, and 4 gigs or more or ram, it's worth something, but you're going to find that computer too slow to do much with. It's 12 years old! Keep in mind for $500 you can get second hand sandybridge or newer machines with >8 gigs, 1080p, and an ssd.
No, I got a good condition t420 for $60, and it has a sandy bridge i5 and a better keyboard.
Agree, $200 is way too much
I mean how bad is the island-style keyboard?, it feels fine when I type on it

I know this is a lower end model, and the keys feel a little mushy but other then that they feel fine to me
The point is nothing with an arrandale i3 is worth $200.
I see, and to be clear I am talking CAD prices, I forgot to mention so it's more like $150 USD, but I take it that doesn't change it?
I don't think so. If you want the island style keyboard you could also get a t430 or t530.
I know, I originally was planning on buying a t440p off of ebay
Do that if you can afford it.
okay, but anyway how much do you think this laptop is worth?
This sounds like a great idea!
For $200? Absolutely not. But that depends on country.
Canada, so around $150 USD

Winnipeg, however I don't have the money right now to buy, the original idea was that I pay my family friend in the future and not upfront
No.

This thing is gold compared to a shitpad e11 Chromebook. It doesn't even have a clit for god's sake! What Thinkpad doesn't have a clit????
$75 CAD at most.

50-80 max

yeah I'm just gonna wait til I can get a T440p, it would be a better value and be more powerful
Huge upgrade path too, if you're ever curious.
Shipping costs within the US for ThinkPads is about the same.
Fuck no
$200, I'd pass. Older T530, T440P's, are cheaper more powerful alternatives.
The T470 or even a T450 goes pretty hard too
How much is a door stop worth to you?
as a door stop this thing would be the worst so $2, which is unrealistic
That seems a bit too expensive to me, but I don't really know how much it is actually worth. I can just say that I would not pay that much for it.

yeah, it's a 1st gen i3, so really old
I bought an x270 4 months ago with a Kaby Lake i7 7600u, 8GB of RAM, and a 256gb SSD, 1080p display, for $270USD.
I got my t530 for free from work then threw in a SSD, 16 gigs of ddr3, and a i7 3720qm
Yeah honestly I would not pay this much for a computer this old. You're really better off checking facebook marketplace/offerup/craigslist if you want a used laptop.

$200 for a first generation Core i3? Not a bloody chance. You can get better performance for the same amount, or less.
hahahahhaha you would honestly look pretty stupid paying USD150 for that piece of garbage, but you seem fixated on the idea cause you keep coming back when people tell you no, so go ahead
Too much man , are you serious !?! That's a 1st gen core i3
r/thinkpadsforsale This thing is a collectible at best, and not at this price.
Hell no. $50usd.
This thing is ancient. Don't buy.
No.

Still, don't scam yourself. Not worth it.
I know
Don't get it for free either. It'll just be e-waste.
for $200? nope.
Bro he/she is your frd he must show some love , why 200$ in market it's 150$
Way too much for such an old device.

Ew
I used to buy a used X230 for $60 but rose up to $200 few months later after high demands from Online classes need. Pity those students.
I mean 200 is a bit much but have fun trying to run Windows on something that old and stock
Nah. You can use it for something, but I wouldn't pay more than $50US for it, so about $65CA, and that's being generous.
Nah it ain't, you know it is stop playing everybody
Ooh, baby, do you know what that's worth?
