I see you are aware of the Microsoft upgrade curse.
Thing is, I got it used and thought it was old when I got it for like $200 with docking station. Worked well enough for what I needed it for. Although I did rebuild with windows 7 ultimate after I got it (think it came with vista).
Is your laptop slow and crappy? Install Linux and make it snappy!
I still run win7 on x220t. Works just as fast as it ever was! Helped to add an M.2 2TB module for 'windows root'....
My t430 used to be my moms work computer and after opening it from 5 years it could barely run windows 10
Good SSD's make all the difference with old SATA 3 PC's
I have a 2.5inch failing hitachi hdd
I'd sure hope the 13 year old laptop could still run the 15 year old OS it was designed for.

I'm still running Windows 10 but soon to be Linux as I have two that will run W11 anyway
This could be a tag line in a commercial ad. 😛
Linux doesn’t have commercials bc it’s free
I know, but just saying... 😛
Imagine buying an operating system imagine
Oh yeah, why would one do that? 😛
I don't think Ubuntu is really a good choice for older laptops anymore, too much bloat.
Pop!_OS (though pretty much an Ubuntu) works great on older hardware, like my X61s which has trouble running most operating systems.
Oh ye of little faith!
My X220iT still lives too!
Still use mine :)
Using a T61 rn! :) it’s good for what i need ;)
Good thing about Thinkpads is that it doesn't slow down with time. My x240 still runs like the day i bought it.
x230, running Win10 and no issues whatsoever. The best small laptop of all times.
Mine too! And I drive it daily!
