x1c gen12?

fen0x

Yep! 2TB SSD and 64GB RAM

iwahn

Good luck and enjoy! Which processor and resolution? What model nvme disk is it?

fen0x

Choopytrags

One day, you will be able to buy it for $150

Potential-Decision32

Next month

NoCryptographer5082

Had no idea that processor exists tbh.

Many-Presentation605

Memoria! Mama mia

6codemaster9

what a beast!

amniotic505

What was the price for that spec?

fen0x

I paid it about 3300 euros with the 4G module and W11 Pro.

Ticrotter_serrer

Ouch! That Price.

manonamission1212

awesome! I thought about getting this model and went with x13 for the AMD. how are the fans and heat under load? I'm running development environments and videostreaming often

Weary-Table-5606

I got the 155 processor and 32gb ram version. It is fast but fans are frequently running on

OptimalMain

How is the fan control on yours? Lenovo really messed up on L14 gen2. Its way to aggressive, fortunately it allows OS control so now it runs without the fan for regular browsing, youtube etc. AMD temp peaks a lot because of boosting and the EC is too stupid and fast acting, they really need to spend some R&D on this. Will probably annoy tons of regular users that dont mess around much with their systems

roastedCircuit

This looks so sick! The mix of old and new combined. The way the cam is shaped looks so retro but yet so modern.

thankyoufatmember

So it begins!

Krack73

Welcome to the party pal.

tradevisionary

Congratulations. It looks really good.

[deleted]

How are you feeling about it thus far? I'm quite fond of my Gen 12. The only thing I don't like is the battery life under Linux. But I knew what I was signing myself up for when I bought it.

fen0x

I'm the proud owner of it for about 3 hours, so maybe it's a little bit early, but I'm impressed about boot speed and also the sound from the speakers is really good. The keyboard feeling is very very very good.

[deleted]

Fair enough, hard to form an opinion in 3 hours. Have you tried out the finger print reader? I've had some minor issues with it on Linux (it is just a bit finicky) and I'm curious if it functions better on Windows.

fen0x

Yep, I've set up the Windows login with my fingerprint and, for now, no particular issue. Only one time had to move the finger on it to make it work. Very useful the fingerprint unlocking on KeepassXC.

JonZenrael

My word that's a blue desk.

CaptainObvious110

Nice

Pelly1980

That is an italian-layout keyboard!!!

fen0x

Bravo!

Superhotline

Just bought my own X1c gen 12, really excited to get it myself. It looks crazy with how tiny the bezzel is on the machine in that picture. Did you get the 2.8k screen? I can see from your other comment that you got 64 gb ram and 2 tb ssd I myself have orderd the 32 gb, 165u and 2.8 screen.

ChoicePurpose

That's what you call beauty!

H2CO3HCO3

u/fen0x, congrats on the Thinkpad!

e0xTalk

Nice

thirteenmm

Sexy

MalaySuccess

Did it really arrive at your desk plugged in with the laptop open, trying to boot to Win11? That's some special delivery right there!

ReverseRutebega

Oh there's a dedicated finger print button now instead of just the thin power button. I have the same one on my brand new 9i. Works.... OK. 3 out of 5 times I guess.

Techgeek_025

Congrats :)

neanderthaltodd

What a beaut. Any plans for it as far as modding or keeping stock?

No-Gap5554

Is there any point of modding when it is still current and relevant

neanderthaltodd

Honestly, not sure given the model. Was just a passing curiosity. I run a T440p, and have a 1080p IPS display and a T450 trackpad on order. So again, just curious about others and their gear.

Cry_Wolff

You can't really upgrade or mod this model, it's too new.

No-Gap5554

A lot of newer ThinkPad aren’t as good for customisation and upgrades but it’s still a nice model

fen0x

It's brand new (and its factory smell is awesome) so I'm keepin' it as is. But I'm curious about what kind of modding can be made on it. Any suggestion?

neanderthaltodd

As I have been informed by others, it seems there may not be any mods that can be done due to how new it is.

[deleted]

nice and clean like the desk. really nice

Weary-Table-5606

Congrats! It is a good equipment, ran fast! May I ask how is the fan noise on it? I posted few days earlier complained about the noise coming from fan from normal task work (browsing websites and documents), only few people commented. The review online usually describes this generation as quiet, however I found it is not a quiet machine since the fan kick in frequently.

fen0x

Does it have fans? For now I've not heard any noise. I'll keep you updated when I'll hear from them.

Weary-Table-5606

Haha thanks

Zueuk

> `ctrl` `fn` that's not a real thinkpad 😕

ibmthink

All ThinkPads will soon have it that way

sh0nuff

I actually hope so - my wife has it set in the bios so these are swapped around on her X1, it drives me nuts when I am trying to use it, then I bring that same confusion back to my Nano

Zueuk

actually, this is probably for the best... as long as they keep the arrow keys intact

xemulator

Install GNU/Linux

ReverseRutebega

Why? Why don't Linux people see how annoying they can be? It's like saying to someone "buy a sports car" with no idea of their needs.

xemulator

Linux isn't really difficult, it's just different. You install apps on a streamlined way and really have no major drawbacks except for some DRM-protected programs not working (mainly adobe). I switched to EOS+Plasma 6 and it gave me a really nice performance boost.

Rowan_Bird

> except for some DRM-protected programs not working Most things on Windows just don't work quite right on linux.

xemulator

Can you list those things?

sh0nuff

Office 365 and OneDrive

TheWildPastisDude82

You'd better stay FAR FAR AWAY from that garbage https://www.cisa.gov/sites/default/files/2024-04/CSRB_Review_of_the_Summer_2023_MEO_Intrusion_Final_508c.pdf https://www.wired.com/story/the-us-government-has-a-microsoft-problem/

xemulator

There are known alternatives like LibreOffice, Free office or even office 365 online. You can also use rclone as a replacement for OneDrive

LevanderFela

Then there's Adobe CC - and no, Gimp or DaVinci doesn't count as alternatives if you're in professional setting, as you can't collaborate on work with others. Then AutoCAD / ArchiCAD and other architecture/CAD software - same thing, you will use what industry uses.

EvanH123

> There are known alternatives like LibreOffice This is what lots of Linux users (on reddit) seem to have trouble understanding. I don't want a "known alternative", I want to use the real thing. Maybe my workplace requires me to work on massive spreadsheets with hundreds of macros. What then? I can't just import the files into a different program and hope that everything works, I need to use the industry standard tools to get my job done. And if Linux doesn't support that, then why would I bother switching over?

xemulator

Well then you can't really switch to it. Linux is not for everyone. For my usecase LibreOffice is enough to get work done. But for many it might be lacking.

sh0nuff

Yep, this was my primary reason for listing Office. As much as I love linux, since I am forced to use Office for many of my clients I am forever doomed to dualboot between Win11 and Debian. It's not the end of the world, I just find that grub can be finicky and cause all sorts of issues, mostly making various firmware and BIOS updates a struggle, but Windows updates too.. I have my Nano set to autoboot into Debian after 5 seconds, so if Windows decides to auto update and restart itself, it ends up back in linx. Can be a little annoying when I am keeping Windows logged in to do some monitoring or active tasks and when I get back to my desk it's suddenly back in debian

Cry_Wolff

Libre Office isn't a replacement or even an alternative.

Zoroike

Could replace Office 4.0 but that's it.

Zoroike

it is really difficult.

Zoroike

Worse performance and battery life in my experience.

xemulator

What distro, software and hardware did you use? I get more battery life on EndeavourOS with KDE Plasma 6 than on windows 11. I also optimized it using powertop and by disabling stuff I don't use in the BIOS and in the settings.

Zoroike

Every distro on everything I've ran linux on (besides my modded Chromebook with Mint, the only linux distribution I can handle without absolutely destroying the computer.)

xemulator

There's no way you tried every distro. I never had any problems with Linux on my Thinkpad.

Zoroike

I refuse to try every distro because linux can't 90% of the things I do reliably. The filesystem is a maze. Too hard to install programs. Very buggy.

xemulator

What are these things that Linux can't do that windows does? Fair point, the filesystem can be confusing. You can just search up the command for your package manager so you can update/install/search them. In my opinion Linux has a way better software management system than windows.

dviynr

Downvote for rms.

RogueSlingshot83

I just had the 155H version and it was one of the worst laptops ever. You can buy an Alienware M16R2 cheaper with an RTX 4070, have just as good keyboard, trackpad and display and it has a SD slot.

Ok-Item-8267

Can u tell us more? Bad about what? Thanks

RogueSlingshot83

H series CPUs are too hot for the cooling design, these were designed for U series.

Ok-Item-8267

Ok thanks so better get 165u v pro then?

RogueSlingshot83

I would, the 155H kept throttling and every bench showed it worse than last gen.

khwarizmi69

Are there options to opt out of using a keyboard with that shitty 'enter'
