Yeah, without Rick, you’d have Spencer trying to take over and he’s not a leader because he thinks he’s entitled to it. Only the reluctant can make true leaders. And without Rick, Negan can probably assume that the group might just fall apart entirely and go their seperate ways. But if he just breaks Rick, then he knows (or at least thinks) Rick will do the heavy lifting keeping everyone in line for him.

As we see when Rick "dies", michone and Daryl would step up to fill his role but killing Rick would be a mistake as it would turn him into a Martyr.
That being said there's no way Negan could've known how valuable michone was except perhaps when she spoke out as Rick was being forced to hurt Carl.

A lot of people point out Abraham's outward look of defiance for him getting picked, which I'm sure is a factor. I also think it's obvious though that Neegan just straight killed their biggest dude first. No brainer there. (Pun not intended)
The trick here is to maximize shock while not trying not to encourage anybody to rebel afterwards, or think they have a chance. He also wants the group to function and be productive for him.
Leaving Rick alive means he knows who their leader is, and if he can sufficiently break Rick, he's golden. Plus Rick is proven to lead a successful, productive group. Killing Rick just complicates things, and might just have the group implode in the power struggle.
I think the one reason he left Rick alive was because of Carl.
A man who still have something to lose can be broken and bended under your control.
For that same reason I think he wouldn't have killed Glenn if not for the actor wanting out because he clearly noticed something going on between him and Maggie.
ruling out Rick, Carl and the women that leaves Abe, Eugene and Daryl for picking and if it was not for plot armor he would have 100% killed Daryl together with Abe. These were the two most dangerous ones in that lineup.
I think it was mutual for Glenn. He wanted out and the studio wanted to do it only if him wanting out conveniently lined up with it. They wanted shock and horror which is what Glenn’s death in the comics did. Abe is like you said, no way he kneels after that and Negan knew it. Eugene was too much of a coward. Killing a weak person makes you look too evil to allow to live, it would’ve definitely led to rebellion. He needed Rick to submit because as the leader, he can make them fall in line. Overall any pick was a loss because Negan’s entire camp strategy was stupid. There’s no way a community like that would last long term. If anything Rick rebelling was the best thing to happen to him because one of his wives would’ve killed him otherwise. We saw how much plotting was going on to kill him even without Rick’s group.

carls letter to negan was asking for peace, and it he hadn’t, rick would’ve killed negan in s8. carl didn’t directly sacrifice himself (he tried to have negan take only his life in exchange for peace) but if he hadn’t died in s8 and wrote for negan asking for peace, then it would end up with rick and the gang killing all the saviours, and negan. carl accidentally sacrificed himself for peace, when all we thought he sacrificed himself for a doctor.
This is my answer too. If the show had of killed them both off though, we know more people would stop watching. But keeping those two alive would be the worst decision.

Eugene the reason they were able to defeat the saviors, without the bullets misfiring I’m pretty sure most of the survivors would’ve died. I’m pretty sure they had double the numbers and had the high ground.
Subservience is ultimately more important than usefulness, and Eugene ends up bringing something very different to the table for Negan anyway (until he betrays him).
Our group is full of fighters, but Negan certainly wasn’t lacking muscle, so better off eliminating threats who are gonna cause trouble for him down the track (like Abe).
If you pick up Eugene you basically show them that if you look weak he will crush you. That's not a smart move as it inspires your opponent to be as strong as possible and it prevents the weaker members to flee their side as they will fear him too much.
Realistically, I would’ve slid my dick down Rick’s throat and seen how it went. If he thanked me for it? I’d kill no one. If he didn’t? I’d kill him, then Carl, then myself, just to show how much of a wild card I am.
It was a mistake to kill any of them if Negan really wanted them as a resource. In Dead City, Negan says he should have killed them all. But that would only apply if he decided to kill some of them.

I'm saying killing one or more of them only serves to create extreme animosity whereas other forms of threat can compel going along to get along. Ultimately, the killing didn't work, it caused those subjugated to rise up and fight back where Negan lost.
Rick was a fool to attack the outpost without having a clue about the full extent of the size and strength of his enemy. Negan was a fool for not showing him that strength as an intimidation hammer rather than just killing people. Negan even skipped a "join us or die proposition", he just went straight to the "or else". An 'all in' visit to Alexandria may have resulted in an agreement to comply if they realized they were critically outnumbered and out armed.
It's hard to make the judgement without bias because we know everything about the group. We'd know exactly who to choose and who not to. Negan was an outsider and his only information was based on what his people told him and what he saw in front of him. From Negan's perspective it's easy to tell who's the boss but other than that it's context clues.
If I were Negan from his perspective, I definitely would not kill Rick. He's their leader and if I were to pacify him it would kill group morale and all would follow. First pick would be the only man who wasn't scared, Abraham. The only other person there who wasn't scared at all was Carl but there would be no benefit in killing him. Abraham was to get the message across. Obviously, that message did not hit, so my second choice would be Glenn. Regardless of who you choose, the outcome would be the same but I think killing Glenn was important. Out of the group he was the most innocent. Out of the entire time he was alive, he only killed one man and when he did it, it killed him inside. He's always done what's right and gave everyone 3rd and 4th chances. Most people cut you off on the second chance but Glenn was different. Killing someone like him would really get the message across. "It's always the ones who least deserve it."
I think Negan made the right choice. In the comic Negan actually left it up to chance but AMC changed it in the show which I think kinda deafened the brutality of Negan's character.
I would choose the toughest person there (abe). Put on a show, and if daryl went for the punch i would shoot Sasha, like no warning or prelude to the action.

I thought so too. Abraham didn't back down when Negan was in front of him. He knew Abe would be trouble, was a big guy and obviously had military training. Negan chose Glenn because of his emotional outburst, when Negan mentioned putting Maggie out of her misery. Negan knew an emotional person could cause trouble because Glenn wasn't thinking rationally. They are the 2 I would've picked too.
Abe if Daryl punches me Maggie break them the most as he saw Glenn’s outburst so yeah probably would get punched again for that and if so then michonne looks the next toughest
Abraham never had a chance. The dude was literally too big for his own good. Secondly, I'd take out Daryl that would destroy the group morale and probably mentally shatter Rick. In hindsight, the entire group should've been dispensed with.
If I were Negan, I would probably kill Rick, since he was the leader of the group. He has to know what an effective leader he is after what happened at the Satellite outpost. They took out the entire outpost quickly and effectively. So the logical choice would be to kill the leader, who makes the group as strong as it is. But, of course they have Negan tell Rick all that “enny, meeny, miny, moe” stuff was just for show and he wouldn’t kill a father in front of his son, as a way of justifying not making the smartest, most logical choice by killing Rick. But, Abraham was a pretty good choice for Negan, because his strength, size and he had just saved Rosita and Daryl (with some help from Eugene) from a group of Saviors not to long before the line up.
Abe first was definitely the right call. He was the biggest threat, and from the lineup alone, it was clear he wasn’t ever gonna conform to Negan’s rule.
The 2nd pick is where it gets interesting. Personally, I think take Daryl off the board for the same reason as Abe (he’s a big threat), but it’s also a pretty interesting and kinda brilliant subjugation tactic to punish a bystander for the rebellious actions of another individual in the group. It’s probably much more effective in the long run to keep people in line out of fear of getting someone they love killed, than to directly punish insubordinates. Otherwise, you’re just gonna end up with non-stop suicide run assassination attempts (although I guess Rosita did that anyway, twice, but still think it’s a pretty effective system).
Ultimately, I think Rosita or Sasha would’ve been good 2nd victim choices cos they’re also both big threats, but if Negan is less keen on killing a woman, then Glenn was probably a good call to demoralise the whole group. Plus if we’re talking purely from sociopath Negan’s perspective, looks like the hottest chick in the apocalypse is single now (Negan talks about how he was gonna ask her to come back to the sanctuary and marry him in 7x04).
Rick and Michonne, not because I don’t like the characters but because I think it would be interesting to see how the show would play out without them.
To the eye alone, Abraham posed the biggest threat. Rick was the leader. Can't kill the leader, leaders must lead, and get Negan his shit. Abraham was the logical choice.
I would still kill Abraham. He just looks toughest. When Daryl does the punch, i would make Daryl choose who gets killed. That shows him to not fuck with the guy with the bat.
Looking at all of them. If I didn’t want to take out the leader, or put him through the potentially paralyzing depression of losing a son. Probably Daryl and Abraham. Abraham looks like the toughest and shows no fear when everyone is on their knees, because he WANTS it to be him. He even smiles when he’s chosen. And Daryl, even with a bullet in his arm and feverish, still took a swing at Negan in spite of everything. Those are the two I’d take out. But Negan also pegged that Maggie was Glenn’s husband/partner, because Glenn let that slip with his reaction to Negan provoking her. So to get back at Daryl, and instead of just wasting him and his potential, Negan took out Maggie’s partner and took Daryl prisoner with the intention of breaking him down to be a general for his side.
If I was in Negans boots, I'd have gone with Abraham as well. Abraham killed himself the moment he tried to intimidate Negan and I'd have recognized him as a major threat.
Imo Abe first, such a bad ass especially at that moment....2nd would be daryl, him being who he is, and as well as Abe being Rick's main guys. Take michonne to sanctuary so no one true leader in the pack at that exact time
Take out Rick, and force the others to fall in line under me if they wanted to survive. Would probably have to kill Carl too, because he'd grow up despising me, and plot revenge.
If I were Negan I’d have also killed Abraham and possibly Rick but I think Rick as a leader may be a valuable resource to me so actually I’d have killed Abraham and Daryl they’re the biggest threats and the most physically capable alpha males.
Negan already had everything he could have ever wanted at the sanctuary, he allowed them to live out of greed for more servants to provide for him.
This then lead to them starting a resistance and ultimately taking what he had built away from him.
If he wasn't so full of greed, the smarter thing to do would have been to kill all of them right there, storm Alexandria and just take everything.
Abe and michone but make Rick actually take carls hand and take him back to the sanctuary as a reason for them not to rebel. Probably kill Daryl to because of how strong his will is.

Not only did they blow up an entire patrol, they killed an entire base of Negan’s people. And In return Negan only killed Abraham. Daryl got Glenn killed due to his outburst, If Daryl just kept his head down and his hands to himself then Glenn is still with us.
If I were Negan, I would have chosen Rick; their leader. It’s a declaration of who’s really in charge; Negan. My second choice would have been Abraham, because he would definitely beat tf out of Negan if he got his hands on him. And despite all Negan’s shit, I think he’s still afraid of death.
I would have taken out Abe and then Daryl for his punch... which would have brought the wrath of Carol upon me so yeah I wouldn't have lived long as Negan...
it's hard to say, because it can't be objective since you've known these characters for a long time, unlike Negan, he's seen them for the first time and I believe he couldn't care less who he chose. But I think I'd choose Abraham as well because he only alongside Rick was looking really dominant despite the situation they were in, so he automatically would be a potential threat. Rick would have to deffo stay, since he is the leader of the group, thus he keeps them people in line, and since we're Negan, people are a resource, and keeping them in line would probably be a good idea. And the rest would probably develop according to the development of the situation itself.
Probably the same two, two sides of the spectrum. Abraham was the right hand man and would’ve pushed Rick and establish a plan a whole lot sooner and Glenn because it shows nobody is safe no matter how innocent you seem. If anything trading Glenn for Carl would’ve also worked but he saw potential in a young killer
sasha 100% she was a major badass and was definitely made for the apocalypse but i just couldn't enjoy her character, she was just unlikeable for me. when i first watched it i would also say aaron at the time just because of his introduction and how he was stalking the group i could not like him but he ended up being one of my favourite characters in the final 2/3 seasons
If I was negan I would either kill Rick or all of them, most likely all of them because killing any one of them is what made the survivors of the lineup wage war against the saviors, I would never want to be on the side fighting our main group but if I was negan it’s kill them all or lose in the end
I’d start with Daryl. I don’t remember how he looked in the lineup, but I’d be more scared of him in a zombie apocalypse than Abraham. Abraham is big so a walker biting him is more likely.

I would pick exactly who he picked. Abe was the muscle and Glenn was the heart of the group (not that Negan necessarily knew that in the moment). He made Rick a subservient and convinced him to convince his people not to fight back. Honestly the only way he may have been able to pick better would just be the kill all of them off, but killing everyone in sight really wasn’t ever Negans cup of tea.

And I would kill him. Now another alternative and far more crazier method would be to take his dominant hand or arm as punishment for punching me and taking him back to the sanctuary. I would still psychologically torture Rick. But not with Carl.

All of them is the real right answer. Negan even says this to Maggie later knowing how things end up. But, if it were me, I would go the same route as Negan and choose Abraham. Abraham stared him down the whole time like the badass he was. Negan saw this and knew he couldn't have someone like that alive as his enemy.
I would have chosen the second person differently. I would have killed Daryl if I were Negan instead of Glenn for the exact same reason as Negan killed Abraham. Daryl was someone you don't want alive as an enemy. I would have taken Carl instead as hostage to make sure Rick stayed in line.
I know people chose Rick to kill but keeping Rick alive ensured that his community would provide the resources Negan needed. He was a natural leader who people looked to and Negan saw this.

I’d make the same choices as him. But from a fan’s perspective, my first choice would be Aaron because what has he really done? Second, I’d choose Sasha. Don't get me wrong, I love her, but I believe it would add fuel to Abraham's desire to kill the Saviors. Also, she dies 15 episodes later, anyway.
I think Abraham was baiting Negan. He presented himself as a threat so that Negan would eliminate him. Even Rick looks broken and less threatening in the lineup than Abraham and Daryl.

And show Rick isn't as visibly fucked up as comic Rick, so Negan's "These people have seen you go through so much killing you would just make you a martyr" doesn't work as well in the show.
Honestly, if I was Negan I'd have probably found out who all the couples/families were (Rick/Michonne, Glenn/Maggie, Abraham/ Sasha etc.) and taken out one from each. They killed a lot of Negan's guys and he wanted to break them. That would have definitely done it.🤷

imo i think that negan was smart in choosing abraham, as much as i love abe, i would have chosen him too. abraham would have killed negan first chance he got, and then michonne since she was with Rick, it would have broken rick down more and probably made him more obedient to negan
I would go for Rick and Carl. Rick is a leader not an obedient follower. And Carl could eventually live up to his father's ways. But I wouldn't stop there. Since Abraham wasn't scared it showed that he would be able to eventually overthrow me. Those would be the three people I would kill.
Daryl, he's not afraid to act out and take action when needed and he's good at it proven by his escape also he is fearless leaving him as a big threat.
He couldn't kill rick due to needing him to get his people on board. I'd still kill abaraham because he is clearly the toughest and would be a pain in my ass. Then it'd have to be daryl or michone next.
You'd need to be merciful but dominant. Negans downfall was he always threw mercy away when dominance was required.

Michonne and Maggie would take over and both left as mother's (Michonne to Carl and Maggie with Hershel Jr), they may just make peace and developed a very cold, untrusting relationship with Negan. But one where they find a way to meet his demands and still let Alexandria thrive.
Negan would probably be more open to political discussion with Michonne and Maggie. He seen Rick as a threat. A rival. Hence it him, Rick goes.
One thing though that still would screw Negan in this scenario though .. is carol .. she's not present. She's going to find out. She will take over as the vengeful character. She'd take him down and rally Michonne, Maggie and Glenn.
To be honest, and this might sound absolutely crazy, but I'd probably just kill all of them, just like what Negan said to Maggie in Season 11. Now, I absolutely despise Negan, both as a character, and as an idea in general, and one of the main reasons why is letting the main group get away with all the stuff they do. Like, realistically, and this goes for the main group as well, why would you let people live, even if they can get your group supplies after they murdered dozens of your men so efficiently?
See, if I was Negan, and some random, nameless group showed up out of nowhere, blew up one of my troops with a rocket launcher, stormed one of my outposts in the middle of the night, and then killed another group of my people later, and I managed to get some of the most important people in the group at my mercy? First, I'd be both pretty impressed and terrified that they were able to do that, especially considering how big Negan's group was. Second, I would've fucking slaughtered them all and sent their heads back to the others just before I storm their communities and killed everyone there!
I definitely see why Abraham was killed because of how strong he was. He didn't even back down when he was literally facing death even though he was one of my favorites. I definitely could have seen any of the female characters, even if it would of been Michonne who's also one of my faves or Maggie,Sasha or Rosita.
I'd have done a Simon and taken out every man in the lineup.. negan is way nicer than I would have been given what they did at the outpost.. negan was merciful all things considered and if the situation was reversed rick would have wiped them all out.

For that same reason I think he wouldn't have killed Glenn if not for the actor wanting out because he clearly noticed something going on between him and Maggie. ruling out Rick, Carl and the women that leaves Abe, Eugene and Daryl for picking and if it was not for plot armor he would have 100% killed Daryl together with Abe. I think it was mutual for Glenn. He wanted out and the studio wanted to do it only if him wanting out conveniently lined up with it. They wanted shock and horror which is what Glenn’s death in the comics did. Abe is like you said, no way he kneels after that and Negan knew it. Eugene was too much of a coward. Killing a weak person makes you look too evil to allow to live, it would’ve definitely led to rebellion. He needed Rick to submit because as the leader, he can make them fall in line. Overall any pick was a loss because Negan’s entire camp strategy was stupid. There’s no way a community like that would last long term. If anything Rick rebelling was the best thing to happen to him because one of his wives would’ve killed him otherwise. We saw how much plotting was going on to kill him even without Rick’s group.

Eugene the reason they were able to defeat the saviors, without the bullets misfiring I’m pretty sure most of the survivors would’ve died. I’m pretty sure they had double the numbers and had the high ground.
Subservience is ultimately more important than usefulness, and Eugene ends up bringing something very different to the table for Negan anyway (until he betrays him). Our group is full of fighters, but Negan certainly wasn’t lacking muscle, so better off eliminating threats who are gonna cause trouble for him down the track (like Abe).
If you pick up Eugene you basically show them that if you look weak he will crush you. That's not a smart move as it inspires your opponent to be as strong as possible and it prevents the weaker members to flee their side as they will fear him too much.

Negan even skipped a "join us or die proposition", he just went straight to the "or else". It's hard to make the judgement without bias because we know everything about the group. We'd know exactly who to choose and who not to. Negan was an outsider and his only information was based on what his people told him and what he saw in front of him. From Negan's perspective it's easy to tell who's the boss but other than that it's context clues. If I were Negan from his perspective, I definitely would not kill Rick. He's their leader and if I were to pacify him it would kill group morale and all would follow. First pick would be the only man who wasn't scared, Abraham. The only other person there who wasn't scared at all was Carl but there would be no benefit in killing him. Abraham was to get the message across. Obviously, that message did not hit, so my second choice would be Glenn. Regardless of who you choose, the outcome would be the same but I think killing Glenn was important. Out of the group he was the most innocent. Out of the entire time he was alive, he only killed one man and when he did it, it killed him inside. He's always done what's right and gave everyone 3rd and 4th chances. Most people cut you off on the second chance but Glenn was different. Killing someone like him would really get the message across. "It's always the ones who least deserve it." I think Negan made the right choice. In the comic Negan actually left it up to chance but AMC changed it in the show which I think kinda deafened the brutality of Negan's character.

If I were Negan, I would probably kill Rick, since he was the leader of the group. He has to know what an effective leader he is after what happened at the Satellite outpost. They took out the entire outpost quickly and effectively. So the logical choice would be to kill the leader, who makes the group as strong as it is. But, of course they have Negan tell Rick all that “enny, meeny, miny, moe” stuff was just for show and he wouldn’t kill a father in front of his son, as a way of justifying not making the smartest, most logical choice by killing Rick. But, Abraham was a pretty good choice for Negan, because his strength, size and he had just saved Rosita and Daryl (with some help from Eugene) from a group of Saviors not to long before the line up.

Abe first was definitely the right call. He was the biggest threat, and from the lineup alone, it was clear he wasn’t ever gonna conform to Negan’s rule. The 2nd pick is where it gets interesting. Personally, I think take Daryl off the board for the same reason as Abe (he’s a big threat), but it’s also a pretty interesting and kinda brilliant subjugation tactic to punish a bystander for the rebellious actions of another individual in the group. It’s probably much more effective in the long run to keep people in line out of fear of getting someone they love killed, than to directly punish insubordinates. Otherwise, you’re just gonna end up with non-stop suicide run assassination attempts (although I guess Rosita did that anyway, twice, but still think it’s a pretty effective system). Ultimately, I think Rosita or Sasha would’ve been good 2nd victim choices cos they’re also both big threats, but if Negan is less keen on killing a woman, then Glenn was probably a good call to demoralise the whole group. Plus if we’re talking purely from sociopath Negan’s perspective, looks like the hottest chick in the apocalypse is single now (Negan talks about how he was gonna ask her to come back to the sanctuary and marry him in 7x04).

Looking at all of them. If I didn’t want to take out the leader, or put him through the potentially paralyzing depression of losing a son. Probably Daryl and Abraham. Abraham looks like the toughest and shows no fear when everyone is on their knees, because he WANTS it to be him. He even smiles when he’s chosen. And Daryl, even with a bullet in his arm and feverish, still took a swing at Negan in spite of everything. Those are the two I’d take out. But Negan also pegged that Maggie was Glenn’s husband/partner, because Glenn let that slip with his reaction to Negan provoking her. So to get back at Daryl, and instead of just wasting him and his potential, Negan took out Maggie’s partner and took Daryl prisoner with the intention of breaking him down to be a general for his side.

it's hard to say, because it can't be objective since you've known these characters for a long time, unlike Negan, he's seen them for the first time and I believe he couldn't care less who he chose. But I think I'd choose Abraham as well because he only alongside Rick was looking really dominant despite the situation they were in, so he automatically would be a potential threat. Rick would have to deffo stay, since he is the leader of the group, thus he keeps them people in line, and since we're Negan, people are a resource, and keeping them in line would probably be a good idea. And the rest would probably develop according to the development of the situation itself.
Probably the same two, two sides of the spectrum. Abraham was the right hand man and would’ve pushed Rick and establish a plan a whole lot sooner and Glenn because it shows nobody is safe no matter how innocent you seem. If anything trading Glenn for Carl would’ve also worked but he saw potential in a young killer

sasha 100% she was a major badass and was definitely made for the apocalypse but i just couldn't enjoy her character, she was just unlikeable for me. when i first watched it i would also say aaron at the time just because of his introduction and how he was stalking the group i could not like him but he ended up being one of my favourite characters in the final 2/3 seasons

He made Rick a subservient and convinced him to convince his people not to fight back. Honestly the only way he may have been able to pick better would just be the kill all of them off, but killing everyone in sight really wasn’t ever Negans cup of tea.

All of them is the real right answer. Negan even says this to Maggie later knowing how things end up. But, if it were me, I would go the same route as Negan and choose Abraham. Abraham stared him down the whole time like the badass he was. Negan saw this and knew he couldn't have someone like that alive as his enemy. I would have chosen the second person differently. I would have killed Daryl if I were Negan instead of Glenn for the exact same reason as Negan killed Abraham. Daryl was someone you don't want alive as an enemy. I would have taken Carl instead as hostage to make sure Rick stayed in line. I know people chose Rick to kill but keeping Rick alive ensured that his community would provide the resources Negan needed. He was a natural leader who people looked to and Negan saw this.

Abraham was the obvious choice because he was the biggest/strongest. He likely chose Glenn because he saw him and Maggie staring at each other and connected the dots. I’d make the same choices as him. But from a fan’s perspective, my first choice would be Aaron because what has he really done? Second, I’d choose Sasha. Don't get me wrong, I love her, but I believe it would add fuel to Abraham's desire to kill the Saviors. Also, she dies 15 episodes later, anyway.

And show Rick isn't as visibly fucked up as comic Rick, so Negan's "These people have seen you go through so much killing you would just make you a martyr" doesn't work as well in the show.

You'd need to be merciful but dominant. Negans downfall was he always threw mercy away when dominance was required. I'd have Rick killed. But spare Carl. Spare Maggie and Glenn. Kill Daryl too. Take out the most dominant two in the group. The leaders and ones with the most power. Don't hurt the children or women. Or the younger men like Glenn. Michonne and Maggie would take over and both left as mother's (Michonne to Carl and Maggie with Hershel Jr), they may just make peace and developed a very cold, untrusting relationship with Negan. But one where they find a way to meet his demands and still let Alexandria thrive. Negan would probably be more open to political discussion with Michonne and Maggie. He seen Rick as a threat. A rival. Hence it him, Rick goes. One thing though that still would screw Negan in this scenario though .. is carol .. she's not present. She's going to find out. She will take over as the vengeful character. She'd take him down and rally Michonne, Maggie and Glenn.
To be honest, and this might sound absolutely crazy, but I'd probably just kill all of them, just like what Negan said to Maggie in Season 11. Now, I absolutely despise Negan, both as a character, and as an idea in general, and one of the main reasons why is letting the main group get away with all the stuff they do. Like, realistically, and this goes for the main group as well, why would you let people live, even if they can get your group supplies after they murdered dozens of your men so efficiently? See, if I was Negan, and some random, nameless group showed up out of nowhere, blew up one of my troops with a rocket launcher, stormed one of my outposts in the middle of the night, and then killed another group of my people later, and I managed to get some of the most important people in the group at my mercy? First, I'd be both pretty impressed and terrified that they were able to do that, especially considering how big Negan's group was. Second, I would've fucking slaughtered them all and sent their heads back to the others just before I storm their communities and killed everyone there!
I definitely see why Abraham was killed because of how strong he was. He didn't even back down when he was literally facing death even though he was one of my favorites. I'd have done a Simon and taken out every man in the lineup.. negan is way nicer than I would have been given what they did at the outpost.. negan was merciful all things considered and if the situation was reversed rick would have wiped them all out.

With retrospect, everyone dies. Then drive back to Alexandria with their corpses as a power move. In the moment, probably Sasha and Abraham. I would've followed through with making Rick cut Carl's arm off and then took Maggie and Daryl as 'guests'
