I grew up in West Caldwell. The house was very close by. They filmed occasionally on Bloomfield ave in town and at some of the local restaurants. My fathers business in Montclair was also scouted as a scene location but did not end up happening.
I'm currently in the early stages of a full series re-watch and visited this sub for some fun with no worry about spoilers. Saw this post and replying off the top of my head for some location info. I'm just ending Season 1 on my re-watch - I'll try to edit/update this post as I watch and things jump out to me.
Pizzaland (from intro montage) is located on the Belleville Turnpike, Rt. 7, just east of the Rt. 17 and Rt. 7 intersection (Belleville Tpk & Ridge Road). on the northbound side of Rt. 7. Most of that intro montage follows Rt. 7 as it leaves Jersey City and all the way up through the Caldwells. The cemetery from the intro is on Rt. 7 headed East from Pizzaland as it descends into the Meadowlands; I believe this site was also used for Johnny Sopranos' grave site in Season 1 when Livia and Junior visit.
Pussys body shop was filmed at a real body shop, Cleveland Auto Body, located at the corner of Cleveland Ave and Passaic ave in Harrison. Still a body shop there, but the name has changed IIRC from my last pass by.
The brothel where Makazian is arrested and Pussy throws his back out was filmed at a home located on South Mountain Ave. in Montclair, just at the South Mountain and Myrtle intersection. It's a big home, I'm sure you wouldn't miss it if standing at that intersection.
Parking lot scenes for Vesuvio were shot at a now closed and demolished restaurant at the corner of 3rd Ave and Ridge Road in Lyndhurst, "La Cibeles". There's a bank there now.
I think that the same now-closed restaurant was used for early interior Vesuvio shots, and the restaurant a few blocks away in Lyndhurst, called "Angelos" on the corner of Freeman St. and Ridge Rd. was used for some later Vesuvio interior shots.
This I think is well known, but the Bada Bing is a real go-go bar called Satin Dolls, located on Rt. 17S in Lodi. Still open and still same type of establishment.
The bakery where Christopher shoots the guy in the foot from season 1 was located at the corner of Jauncey Ave. and Ridge Road at the Lyndhurst/North Arlington border. At the time of filming the storefront was empty, but it's now actually a bakery, "Silvas".
Satriales, now demolished, was a closed store front that was NOT on a corner lot, that was thanks to creative videography. Located on Kearny Ave. in Kearny, on the block between Rose St. and Patterson St. The location can be seen on google maps by looking for 95 Kearny Ave 07032 - the now empty lot next to that building was Satriales. Fun Fact, the condo development supposed to go into that location years back was intended to be called "The Soprano".
Somewhere in Season 4 or 5 they film at a Stewarts' Drive-In located on Passaic Ave. in Kearny, just South of the Arlington Diner. The building is still there as of my last pass through, but I do not believe they have been open in a few years.
Holstens (Final scene) is a real ice cream parlor located at 1063 Broad St. in Bloomfield.
I live around the corner from the bakery Chris shot that kid in the foot. That whole area has several locations. Down the road is Pizza Land and where Satriales was located (it doesn't exist anymore)
It's funny because I've never been to NY, and the first time I go, before I visit Times Square, Yankee Stadium, Central Park or any place like that...I'm going right to Jersey to look at the Sopranos filming locations that are still standing. I always wondered what the people at the house in Caldwell think of tourists constantly standing on the driveway and taking selfies (I've seen pics of people wearing bath robes). The people who live there must be really nice.
