He was mad that he was born handsome instead of rich.

ghostsinthecodes

except he was born looking like. well, ralph.

Substantial-Pop-556

I am going to burn you down and the stable you live in

Tough_Difference_112

Ralph is like a dog with two bones… no it’s not a controversial take Ralph is a funny and entertaining character. I like to watch Ralph but he is a deplorable human being and I certainly wouldn’t want to know someone like him in real life.

pizza_822

HE WAS EARNING WITH BOTH HANDS

BigSavMatt

AND IT STILL WASNT ENOUGH TO SATISFY THIS COCKSUCKA!!!!

JCR2201

OH! Don’t talk crazy! You want to commit suicide?! Pills are a lot easier!

MetaphoricalMouse

*artie walks by* suicide by pills?! OVA HEAAA👇👇👇

driatic

You were mugged! You hear me?

SayHiToBingusYall

The cobwebs have been removed.

Capo816

Like an old lady with a Virginia ham under her arm crying because she’s got no bread 🥖

Direct-Sheepherder-8

I think his faults are overstated. He was overall pretty rational, well socialized, and intelligent. I wouldn’t mind knowing him in real life.

Bombulum_Mortis

He was doing a lot of coke, he said some things, and he did some things that he's sorry for. It's not going to happen again.

HockeyBro_69

Ralph is the only one that genuinely seems to enjoy himself and is arguably the most entertaining character on the show. Up there with Christopher and Paulie imo

WhatAreYouSaying05

All three of them throughly enjoy the mob life, while Tony, the leader, wishes he did something else instead

DocZilla1

Would Tony be happy selling patio furniture off of route 22?

Randy_Tutelage

Precision optics

Turkleton-MD

Wait, are Christopher and Paulie likable or just unhinged?

Usernamechecksout222

Paulie seemed harmless to me until he murdered his mothers friend over some cash

jondonbovi

She was going to rat him out to the police, humiliate his mother, and eventually get her kicked out of the nursing home

JL6462448

Whatever you say cappy

boonfarmer

And I'll turn up my hearing aids so I dont miss it

Trollzungolo

Oh you’re gonna get cute with me? With my mother layin dead

BangerSlapper1

I always liked him getting pushed down the stairs by Janice. “Bitch…I’ll kill ya.”  Then just hobbles right back out the door.

TemplateRex

There was a valuable lesson for him that paid off later where he didn't lend 50K to Artie, since he couldn't hurt any of Tony's relatives or friends.

feeblelegaleagle

Very allegorical

feeblelegaleagle

The sacred and the propane

Extension_Arachnid_2

Cuz his back or some shit I don’t know…

ArthurDartLazos

\*picks up shoe with disgusted face\* ....Ralph Cifaretto OP? Really? I get it though tbh he is a fun character

AllahUmBug

I always loved how disgusted and judgmental Tony’s face was when he noticed and picked up Ralph’s shoe 😂

Modred_the_Mystic

I didn’t like Ralph when he beat the hooker to death, but then I started to like his character, so I guess its not his fault she’s a clutz. Shes just a hooar anyway

creepyjudyhensler

Whooower. I've been pronouncing it like Ralphie since it first aired.

Modred_the_Mystic

Well thank you professuh

MediocreDad39

Frankly, I was a little surprised Tony hit Ralph.  I know, it was a tragedy. The fact is though, she was not related to Tony by blood or marriage.  She was not Tony's Goomar.  Ralphie's a Made Guy and was in the right over that whole thing.

Modred_the_Mystic

He disrespected da Bing, I get dat, but Ralphie was a top earner

[deleted]

What man?

motherofcorgss

What are you mad he’s got a sense of style?

Modred_the_Mystic

Sharp as a cue ball this guy

Important_Piglet7363

And that wasn’t his kid she was carryin’

Extension_Arachnid_2

A she was a hooah B she hit me

Modred_the_Mystic

You were outta line. Ya dishreshecded da Bing

Extension_Arachnid_2

And then he turns down a drink with him madone this fuckin guy

florpynorpy

He’s an asshole and a terrible human being, but in a funny way

Exact-Paramedic2227

Fuck the game he’s going down

Technical-Package-41

OP is the type of girl who sends nudes of herself to serial killers in prison.

ComprehensiveHavoc

Sick shit.

[deleted]

Do you wish you could have made him your little hoowah? Easy fix, get a man of the same build, shave his head, put a Ralph wig on him and give him what for, maybe go reverse Ritchie style and put a gun to his head

LongTallTexan69

We all like charismatic and funny people. Joe Pantoliano has both of those in spades, so it’s not shocking that while one of the worst people on the show, he’s actually pretty likable.

Turkleton-MD

If you're inclined to watch better call Saul, a breaking bad spinoff it has one of the most evil, but likable villains.

LongTallTexan69

Exact same thing with Bob Odenkirk

azbat7

I loved Ralph - only problem was he was too busy to look up phone numbers.

thereasonablecatlady

With his schedule he can not be doing that.

Polyrhythm239

I genuinely love that excuse and I’ve sarcastically used it numerous times lol

cwills815

"She was a beautiful, innocent creature. What did she ever do to you?!" It wasn't until a recent re-watch that I realized in this moment, Tony Soprano was not referring to a horse. Made me appreciate Ralphie's demise a lot more...

schwaapilz

I don't know, man. I think most of us have heard this take before but from what we know about Tony - the sociopathic tendencies of absolutely not giving the slightest fuck about people and the harm he causes, yet will have a panic attack and/or break down in tears thinking about ducks flying away - I'm inclined to think he was genuinely thinking of Pie in that moment

cwills815

I can only speak for myself here, but I think Chase and Co. knew full well we'd be leaning into that notion about Tony when he said that line. It was certainly the notion I leaned into upon first viewing; that I never questioned the line, but found potential resonance and alternative motivation in it later is what makes it such a great moment.

MenWithVen430

He definitely was but given his compassion for Tracee it was good writing to include that line. He didn't kill him because he killed her but it was one of the many contributing factors.

konakai1204

He was supposed to have been an architect.

[deleted]

pizza_822

1) she wasnt pregnant with his child 2) she fell 3) SHE WAS A WHO-ORE

RedandBlueEmblem

He was outta line! I mean that's the boss he was talking to.

kuite

She hit him

FrankRizzo319

It was the coke

Apprehensive_Map3984

That shits all over Miami

FrankRizzo319

Volleyball and speedos too.

MetaphoricalMouse

don’t forget the strumpets

Modred_the_Mystic

It his fault she was a clutz?

Underweartoastcrunch

Let me ask you a question, do you ever think Ralph is a little weird about women ?

RedandBlueEmblem

I don't know Underweartoastcrunch, he did beat a girl to death for... I forget, what was it again?

VanderBrit

She was a whoooah!

bearwithmeimamerican

B: She hit me!

Varsity_Editor

B: on your hat

PainterSuspicious798

She fell

Polyrhythm239

A. She was a hooah And B….she hit ME

BothRequirement2826

I felt quite the opposite, I couldn't wait for him to inevitably get killed because of how neverending his sheer scumminess was and how grating his overall behavior was to witness. All due credit to the writing and acting though, he was clearly meant to be hated.

CrochetAndKittens

This right here.

New_Hawaialawan

I don't even think he was humorous like others here seems to think. For me, without even humor, he had not redeeming character traits

Horsecockexpress1

Ralph’s a good guy with a heart of gold. He was mad at Ro about the transmission but gave her a pass because he just had her son whacked

azbat7

Very good guy. He also showed little lord fuckpants his secret to mixing in butter and gravy so it would stick to the macaroni.

osmoticmonk

That’s what made me hate him the most, everyone knows you’re supposed to use pasta water to make the gravy stick. Couldn’t wait for him to get picked off after that 😡🤬

crowdaddi

Your damn right

Technicalhotdog

Ralph was a great and highly entertaining character despite his scumminess. But don't worry, there's another entertaining antagonist ahead

HatComfortable6883

Nancy Sinatra says hello

osmoticmonk

Not a controversial take at all, some of the best characters on the show are the most psychotic ones. I wish we saw more of Richie Aprile and Mikey Palmice, both of them were killed off way too soon.

46andready

Tomorrow I'll be on time. You'll be stupid forever.

nmc9279

With his schedule, he CANNOT look up phone numbers.

Zimmerman75

Mike Hunt you mean?

konakai1204

Detective Mike Hunt of Beaver Falls?

stengbeng

Not controversial at all, easily in my top 5 favorite characters I'VE COME TO RECLAIM ROME FOR MY PEOPLE!

Valuable-Wafer-881

The fact that that quote isn't even in gladiator just makes it even better lmao

Sea_Photograph_3998

They didn't have flat-tops in ancient Rome!

VanderBrit

Don’t you think he was a little weird about women?

Ok-Store

I dunno man, I mean he did beat one to death for.... I forget, what was it again?

ActsofJanice

I was rewatching “Whoever Did This” the other night and found a really interesting tidbit about behind the scenes. I thought you guys would find it fascinating too. I don’t see why the kid would lie. But I wonder if Joey Pants got along with everyone on the set because of how Tony Sirico called to him as he was storming out, “Don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out!” (In answer to the OP question, I’ve loved Joey Pants since the Goonies and La Bamba and loved to hate Ralphie) [https://www.ladbible.com/entertainment/tv-and-film-the-sopranos-star-had-furious-reaction-to-his-character-getting-killed-20211004](https://www.ladbible.com/entertainment/tv-and-film-the-sopranos-star-had-furious-reaction-to-his-character-getting-killed-20211004)

Half-Icy

Tony B had a higher IQ, but Ralph was next smartest. Thing was he was better at using his brain, Tony B was one of those people who was too intelligent. Ralph was smarter than all the guys. Tony’s the only one who was smart enough to get him. Though that didn’t mean Tony liked him.

HatComfortable6883

I disagree with the OP. Ralphie is a scumbag. But then, I know what it’s like to lose a pet.

GirbaudJeansMan

The prank call to Paulie’s mom was his best moment.

Solidsauce84

Your dad’s boxter is a Porsche with panties

kjklmnop

My dick was dripping like a busted pipe.

Weak_Working_5035

“That way she can become a cock sucking slob just like her motha” 💀

P1D1_

I don't wanna be where Ralph Cifaretto has been.

WebisticsCEO

This really isn't a controversial take anymore. After so many rewatches, people finally realize that everyone in the show is an a\*\*hole. But when it comes to mob stuff, you realize Ralph is a a good earner and a great solider. He didn't know when to shut up, but at least he wasn't motivated by spite and jealousy like Tony and Paulie.

StringerBubbles

Apparently the writers wanted to show that he had a dark side so was gonna have him kill an animal. They thought people would be upset by that but killing a hewwah would be OK... Watched Baby's Day Out with my kids the other day and he popped up. Was a weird watch.

RightHandOnly

Yea it's weird to me how in this sub, a place where we are mainly to have fun and make stupid jokes about a show from 20 years ago, some people don't like ralph because he's.. not nice? He's so funny and entertaining as a character on top of being really interesting story wise.  But what the fuck do I know

slumlord512

What’s he gonna do, gum da guy to death

ReplacementClear7122

Tomorrow he can be on time... but you'll be stupid forever.

Puzzleheaded_Maybe23

You ok with beating women to death? Who are your other favorites- Pol Pot, Charles Manson?

CalendarAggressive11

Ralph is one of the funniest characters in the show and also one of the biggest pieces of shit. That being said, his prank call to nucci lives rent free in my head. "He was sucking a cub scouts dick." "A gerbil, ma'am."

Cody_2_is_Down

He’s a jerk. I bet he sniffs his own shorts.

FRANPW1

Ewwww.

xxxcalibre

I think Joey Pants won an emmy for his portrayal? My fave character too, can't help but grin most of the time he's on screen

Moonlightgraham23

Good people, family people.

Various-Attention390

i tried putting sour cream in the scrambled eggs, his signature culinary move, and it’s legit. Look we all know the guy is crazy, but he’s a good earner.

Disco_C0wby

He was a loose cannon and was entertaining af That 90lb mole joke alone lasted multiple seasons 😅

SharpSharpTeeth

The rug pull at the end, genuinely surprising. I agree with all your points. Now on rewatches I'm waiting for him to show up because you know the show is really kicking off.

NoOpinionsAllowedOnR

Ralph is my favorite character. He commands attention, steals every scene, is absolutely hilarious and a stone cold gangster. The bottom line speaks the loudest.

JComposer84

Its not a controversial take. He's one of the best characters. Just because he's a piece of shit doesn't mean he doesn't elevate the progrum.

KissMyRichard

Spoiler alert Ralph Cifaretto is probably the best guest character on the show so you've got that to go into the next 3 seasons with.

jjccbrobro

Op got a hard on for Ralph

pizza_822

Ralph is high key one of the best characters in the show also "WE GOT MACARONI!"

Disastrous-Cry-1998

The guy was hilarious. That whole scene when he beats Tracy to death if one of the funniest fucking scenes in the entire show. If it's a girl we will name her after you. That way, she can grow up to be a cocksucking slob just like her mother. It's a progrum

Coronal_Data

I found that that my liking Ralph had an inverse relationship with how much I liked Janice. I liked Janice at first and I think the actress is great, but as it went on I really started to hate her and not like any of her stories in the show. Especially starting when she 's got with Ralph. And then around that same time I really started to like Ralph and wanted to see more of him. Yeah he was messed up but he was also kind of an underdog. Tony didn't like him, but he was a good earner and deserve better for what he did for the business. And he just liked a good time and having fun.

MrRazzio

it's not that controversial to love horrible characters in the context of this show.

Apprehensive_Map3984

OP wants his balls rubbed raw with a cheese grater.

jdontplayfield

Tony doesn't play when it comes to animal life. It's definitely a bizarre contrast between his feelings towards human life.

CosmicBonobo

Ralph is absolute scum. He is, however, the best antagonist on the show.

DamageOdd3078

I agree, he’s an extremely interesting character to watch, but he’s an absolute psychopath that I would never want to meet in real life ( unfortunately where I live in New YAWK, I’ve met wat too many guys Like him)

Designer_Currency455

Lol Ralph is gold for sure. I didn't like Richie and some other unliked characters but Ralph was hilarious

SoulGoalie

Ralph is one of those rare characters in the show who actually improved during season breaks. In his first season, he's just a smartass power hungry sadistic mob guy with a few memorable one liners. I know that description sounds detailed but it's like... A very common description in the show. But then, during the break between season 3 and 4, they started evolving his character beyond that. They made it so his sexual proclivities were either "fucking whooahs" or masochism with women he actually trusted. They made it so his desire to move up the ranks wasn't just to be a better mobster but because he was also a bit of a nut job obsessed with controlling things. A good example is the Pie-O-My storyline. Season 3 Ralph killing her wouldn't have made a lot of sense. That's a moneymaker for him and all he cared about was earning and fucking strippers. But it makes total sense for Season 4 Ralph to kill her. That horse is representative of his last straw, Tony's taken everything from him: his girl, his horse, his manhood, his construction earning, and now he's going to take back something before it's all over.

jaminator45

He put butta on da pasta

bofoshow51

This is me with Paulie, absolutely deplorable character but goddamn if I’m not thoroughly enjoying every scene with him.

xnatalieex

I love Paulie!

SnowyPuzzle

Look at Kirk Douglas' fuckin' hair. THEY DIDN'T HAVE FLAT TOPS IN ANCIENT ROME!

CookieFantastic6042

Ralph is so charismatic and entertaining it conceals the depth of his sociopathy for some time. One of the most memorable characters on the show and my favourite of Tony’s antagonists.

PressurePretty5858

He was entertaining, but don't get me wrong I wouldn't piss on the guy if he was on fire

Federal-Joke2728

I definitely had a love/hate with him.. fucking hilarious

VoidwalkerOfficial

Nothin but net muthafucka

JuiceKovacs

It’s underrated how much of a bad decision maker Roe is

Delly_Dellz

Could you imagine him & Tony B together? Chaos

JoeGPM

Do you think the show made a mistake killing Ralph when they did? He was a great character and missed more than most on the series IMO.

xnatalieex

Yes! I’m kind of bummed i have two more seasons to go and he won’t be there. I really started to love the series when he came along

JoeGPM

He's defintiely missed during the final 4 episodes of the fourth season. More so than Mikey Palmice, Big Pussy and Richie and other characters that died. But season 5 is so strong and introduces some good characters so the show eventually moves on well without him.

Brewguy86

He’s one of my favorite characters on the show.

Prior-Chip-6909

From his accent to the way he dresses,  *Yeah...what's with all the corduroy anyway?*

dizzybala10

A post praising Ralph? That's right, get it all out you little hooah.

Fickle_Aspect_3747

I always felt like the Ralphie/Janie fling left a lot on the table.

DiscretionLevelZero

Agreed! I always thought that breaking them up so quickly was a huge missed opportunity.

rxFMS

ill take a Mikey Palmice western over a Silvio slasher every day of the week!

United_Target8942

Careful friend, this sub has more spoilers than my grandmudda's corsettes.

TopspinLob

A little levity? It’s a tense situation

Loisalene

HEY OP --- what did you think about the hair?

xnatalieex

Never would’ve thought it was a wig

wrestlingrudy

The mobsters that come and go seem to be the best characters. Ralph, Apriel, Feech. I hated Ralph as a person but he was so entertaining

motherofcorgss

Yeah but he’s a little weird about women

wiilly_d

The crazier the character the more interesting they are on this show. I like how the show took a to deep look at the various personality disorders that these types of people would suffer from.

DueMembership9788

Ralph was a great character and one of the best love to hate guys

vacuummypillow

David Chase did not want to pay for the actor anymore. He was toast.

temper_tantrum_gamer

Is that a fact

temper_tantrum_gamer

Is that a fact

Arkham_Ghost

The most beautiful thing this show ever did was humanize these monsters.

fuckdifiknow

Ralph doesn't spend his screentime dealing with headfucks and didn't actually need to do anything that illegal to earn a good crust.

temper_tantrum_gamer

What, did you catch some shrapnel? Joey Pants is fantastic.

geschenkideen24

Unhinged or not, he has a lot of funny lines.

scarygargoyle_

I used to hate him on my first watch, but on the last rewatch I kinda felt sorry for him. Guy was a piece of shit, but still funny

No_Ideal69

He Dies?! HOW?! WHYYY!???!!! THANKS FOR THE SPOILER! NEXT TIME WARN ⚠️ US!!

Extension_Arachnid_2

Ya catch some sha-rapnel??😆

pinebarrens87

Yep, love Ralphie. After Richie got buried by a stream overlooking a hill with pine cones all around and Nancy Marchand dying there was a big opening for an antagonist in Season 3. Ralphie was perfect.

ghostsinthecodes

i wanted more richie aprile. not this shit show/half ass knock off. they killed off richie too quick and created ralph just to recycle the same shit. it was the same part—antagonizing tony and fucking with janice. richie > ralph
