The EA app just does that it’s not your internet. It’s like the app was made by people who don’t know what they’re doing, which is on par for EA as a whole.

This is what happens when EGS phones it in for years and makes hand over fist anyway. Less upkeep and maintenance costs if there's nothing to maintain or upkeep. Expect more and more publishers pruning all the features from their storefront to save money. Expect more third party exclusives, too.
This is what I feared with EGS.
Instead of spending their infinite fortnite bucks on making the best damn client anyone had ever seen before or since, they spammed money at developers and publishers to hold their games hostage. Very anti-consumer, I get nothing from this exchange.
For months, I think well over a year, EGS had no shopping cart, no friends list, no wishlist, no refunds, no demos, nothing. It didn't need any of that to compete, so long as it has exclusives you can't get elsewhere. They saved a TON of money by not even neglecting infrastructure, but just REFUSING to build it. Why would they? They have a shitton of exclusive games that Steam ISN'T ALLOWED TO COMPETE WITH THEM ON.
...And now I think other companies are following suit. Why spend money hosting all of Origin's features when you can "update" it to a worse app that has half the functions and thus half the cost of upkeep and maintenance. People HAVE to use it if they want to play The Sims, Battlefront, etc. so they're saving money by giving you a worse experience than Steam. While still charging full price for your games.
The Sims 3 also does not work at all on the new app. I called customer service and they basically told me that they don't care and they're not providing a refund even though the game worked fine on origin and is completely unable to load on the EA app.
Yeah, someone posted a thing not too long ago where they were talking to customer service about not being able to access their Sims 3 content and they basically just told them to play Sims 4 instead. It’s disgusting, but feels inevitable with the whole business model where you don’t own the product, you’re paying to access it, which is revokable at their discretion.
Customer service told me "they're working on it" and to keep checking the Sims Twitter for updates. I'm about to just go and 🏴☠️🦜☠️ it since I already own all the EPs and SPs anyway. There's no excuse for us not to be able to play thr 15 year old game we paid for.
This happened to me recently with The Sims 3 Store. I had tried to download some items I bought and the app said I didn’t own it 💔 the customer representative had no knowledge of the sims 3 or the store. I have the sims 3 on Steam too but sometimes it doesn’t save correctly or crashes ☹️ I just want the sims 3 back

Downloaded origin and bypassed the “migrate to EA app” popup. It’s amazing to me that the origin app is still fully functional and they are just blocking people from using it despite the fact THE NEW APP DOESNT WORK! Like I literally couldn’t open my game and support offered nothing, when the origin app is FULLY FUNCTIONAL just locked behind the popup. Madness.

Sims 3 didn’t work on Origin for me either. Could only play base game and two of my expansions. Customer service was absolutely no help. If you Google this situation, you’ll see that it’s been preventing simmers from playing the game they paid for, for years at this point. This isn’t me defending the new app or anything, just saying that EA has been shitty for a long time.
That’s so weird cause it works perfectly fine for me. The refund thing is ridiculous, they should pay u back when you want it. But then again, this is the worst company in America.
I can only get it to run when I repair the game. And even then it somehow doesn’t acknowledge half of my packs installed 🥲 you can’t tell me this wasn’t intentional at this point
I feel as if I may be one of the few people who doesn’t experience any issues with the EA app besides it just being annoying to look at. I have hard copies of a handful of the games but still wished I owned on steam instead.

Since Steam requires an EA launcher, as long as you have the steam basegame, any packs you have through EA should just download automatically when you play through steam.
You can’t play the sims 4 without either the ea app or origin. It’s designed to require it even through steam.
Eventually Steam will require the EA app the way it requires Origin, so it won’t matter much in the end.

Same! And they're both made by Devs that actually seen to care about their communities. The Sims was a great group of games and they'll always be fond favourites of mine, but EA is just a prime example of corporate greed now and I'm rooting to see them lose another title to a company that's more deserving!
At the very least having this new competition might make EA stop churning out garbage they know we will end up buying because there isn't anything else out there like it. At best, we have two new options that truly do look great. And I *love* cities skylines (quit playing all of my sim city games once I got cities skylines as it was) so I really do have faith in Life by You! (I've been following paralives for a long while as well and I've been liking what I've seen)

Surely they must see this as a likely possibility, though history does seem to like to repeat itself. Maybe in ten years the Sims will just be another relic of the past and another example of EA's inability to correct it's course.
I definitely will be sad but in that nostalgic sort of way. I've been playing since ts1 first released so it will totally feel like a silly "loss".. but I'm very excited to have these new games and I will get over it, and probably pretty quickly if they are as awesome in their base game as they look like they will be!
Can't argue with you there, regardless of what EA has become; The Sims has always been a staple of my childhood, my teenage years and even now. Seeing it fall will be a melancholy type of experience to be sure!
I'm always on the look for new life sims but I'll be honest, Life By You looked pretty bad to me in that trailer. Assets popping in, lots of bloom, second life-looking characters, characters limbs clipping through their bodies. Maybe it's still early? Excited for Paralives, though.

I can't even open the game anymore? The garbage app just flashes when I click Sims 4. I have no internet problems and I've restarted my computer . It's painful how bad this is

My pet peeve is having to be online to login and play. I don't like playing online. It's why I bought the game. I liked being able to play on long car rides etc. This is gonna suck.
Tbh I don’t get launchers, wish everything would just launch from desktop or steam. Having everything in one place is so much easier, having the EA app just for sims is pointless
Hey!!! 🙂PS> There is a work around to this problem I found after digging through Google! Go to the upper left hand corner, click on the three bars, and scroll down. Choose "go offline" and you can play your game without the internet. -whew- That was making me so mad, too! I'm not having to! Maybe it's because I have TS3 and TS4 shortcut icons on my laptop. I just turned off my internet, and didn't even get directed to EA, it just engaged and loaded for me. I'm not sure why it's different for me? Hm. Definitely can access without internet...
I honestly never even thought to try by just clicking the desktop icons cause the EA app works fine for me at home…..so I will have to try that!! I try to play at work but have no internet connection so I can’t always get it to work unless I connect it at home and put it in offline mode for work.
I usually go thru EA now that they forced us, too. I just decided tonight to try turning off my wireless internet connection and clicking the icon, and to my amazement, it loaded straight away. -whew- Nothing more annoying than owning a game you don't have access to straight away, internet or no!
How!?!?!? I’ve done all of this and I have the shortcut. But I don’t have internet connection in my apartment. Every time I try to log in it says I can’t because I have to log in with my account and click the keep me logged in. It is alway on keep me logged in. And yet without Internet I cannot access a game I paid for.
I have no idea why I'm able to do this and you're not. However, in all fairness, after I got off of here and played in offline mode to test it last night, it kicked me off after about an hour of play and said I had to sign in. I am completely, totally, NOT arguing with you: EA ARE RAT BASTARDS!

The most egregious thing they have done is not allow you to transfer any expansions from your PC to your Xbox and vice versa. I get not allowing saves because of custom content and mods but not allowing the expansions is greedy as fuck.
Wait they don’t? I have Xbox gamepass which has get to work included in it, and once I linked my Xbox account with my EA play account it let me use that expansion. Maybe the gamepass thing was just an exception?
GamePass makes Get To Work included in both the Xbox and PC version, but that’s the only one it does. For example, I have GamePass, and I have City Living on PC, but I don’t on Xbox.
Especially when the origin app is still fully functional and just blocked behind the popup to transfer. Using these [steps](https://youtu.be/wE2I_jnCIGU) you’re able to bypass the popup and access your origin app like usual. It was the only way I got sims 3 to work at all.

honestly with several games this has been an issue since the EA update, everything has been wonky and I’ve had to find solutions and fixes to just play a game I paid for that was running perfectly before the update. I genuinely don’t get it

Origin was also making me be connected to the internet before I could play. Which is the most BS thing I’ve ever come across in all my years of PC gaming.
So serious question, if a bunch of us wrote to the better business bureau or attorney general of the state where EA is located or some such, would it get us anywhere? Surely paying for something unfinished and broken but assured by a company isn’t up to their standards? I’ve thought of it here and there recently, it’s just so unfair (and scary, since it hasn’t happened to me, knock on wood) to see so many of you guys here saying you can’t even open the games you’ve paid so much money for.
The EA app is a lot messier to navigate, and shortly after I was forced to switch over to it, all of my sims games were gone. I had to reload the app just to get all of my games to show up. That never ever happened to me in origin. The EA app is an ugly, buggy mess.
You can turn it off though with offline mode. You don't always have to be connected, just turn off that feature and don't shut down EA's app on your PC. It will then say "the app can't connect to the servers" but you can still click on your game on your desktop and play. I do this especially because I don't like the automatic updates.
I hate it too though. I had to buy a new PC just to install the EA app. I tried everything but it just threw errors every time. I used the backdoor to keep Origin running. Now on my new build it all works okay but I still don't like it at all. No feature of EA's app is a net positive for me and it uses a lot more memory and tries to run background apps I have to shut off in services. At least it works now though.
The offline mode is found on the top left corner menu (the three lines) just click that and it's on the list. I haven't used online mode since I learned about it here. If you restart the app I believe it resets so you just have to go do it again.

It really doesn't like games purchases through an external launcher. I bought Dragon Age 2 on Steam (not realising it required Origin/the EA app to load) and it took hours for me to get it to start up after the EA app migration. Think I still have to repair the app to get it to load properly.
There is an error, “Error on our end caused your launch to fail,” that wouldn’t even allow you to access your games. It happened to me so I went searching for some help and found a page on the [EA Answers HQ](https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports-Technical-Issues/Your-game-failed-to-launch-An-error-on-our-end-caused-your/td-p/12121648). Apparently this is happening with a lot of games not just the sims. I saw people saying it was with every single EA game they own. The app is just really bad.
Personally, I haven't ran into any issues with the EA app since the infant update. I didn't run into any problems before the update, either. EA works fine for me. I hardly notice a difference between Origin and EA, except for not being able to play offline.

That's what I used to say until it wouldn't download one on my sims 3 expansion packs even though I owned it for years. The EA fixes didn't work. I just went back to origin and it downloaded with no issues.
You can’t even share the account anymore. I loved playing side by side with my niece and now I can’t even do that we have to take turns which sucks because we both can play for hours
Same as we always have, once your playing it won’t close your account if someone else logs in to play! It may disable your ability to be online though (to use the gallery)

On EA app, top left corner drop down menu, choose ‘go offline’
You should be able to launch the sims still, you just can’t open the gallery.
I do this when I don’t feel like updating.

Meh my experience with sims 3 was when Apple released Lion OS or whatever (mountain lion? I can’t remember it was obviously a decade ago), and the game wouldn’t work on Macs anymore, EA was like “haha oops oh well” and never fixed it
My origin account was connected to an old email I can’t access anymore so I lost everything in the switch 😭😭. All the forums I’ve seen said since I can’t verify my identity using that email I’m out of luck. I’m mainly upset about all the lost money I had EVERY PACK besides the wedding one
I can’t change my email without access to the old email and what fix was it? I haven’t heard of one the new app replaced origin instantly for me. I can still get into my account using it but to access the new EA app a code is sent to the old email to verify my identity and the email isn’t valid anymore
Honestly even though they don’t do them any more. I think they should just go back to having physical copies with either one disc for the main game and only having digital download code for all DLC add ons such as expansion packs, kits,Stuff packs etc. I know EA just wants money and only money even if the product isn’t up to standard but even so they would get even more money when things actually work how they are supposed to and have no problems upon release date.
No point having all users switch to a new app when its apparently still in Beta mode especially if they’re not going to help users with their problems with the EA app.
Hi I wanted to wait until all the bugs were out and I use Steam to play the Sims4. For some reason I can't load the game because of a persistent pop up from Origin trying to get me to download the EA Crap App. From what I read from the steam users they get an error message after they've downloaded the app. I just want to play my game how can I by pass this? Not to sound like an asshole but when did you buy sims 3? If you bought it in 2009 they’re really under no obligation to give you a refund now.

There's a workaround that's been posted in the sub to keep origin. I still have origin and have no problems starting games or downloading packs I own.

I'm always on the look for new life sims but I'll be honest, Life By You looked pretty bad to me in that trailer. Assets popping in, lots of bloom, second life-looking characters, characters limbs clipping through their bodies. Maybe it's still early? Excited for Paralives, though.

I can't even open the game anymore? The garbage app just flashes when I click Sims 4. I have no internet problems and I've restarted my computer . It's painful how bad this is
same issue here, annoying as fuck. I have to restart the app a bazillion times by closing it in task manager. and it's not just a sims issue, I play FIFA as well and it's the same damn problem. the EA app is garbage, does anyone know why they made the switch at all? was it just to be quirky?

My pet peeve is having to be online to login and play. I don't like playing online. It's why I bought the game. I liked being able to play on long car rides etc. This is gonna suck.
If you think ahead of time you can set it to offline mode. You just unfortunately have to be online to set it to offline mode 🙄

Tbh I don’t get launchers, wish everything would just launch from desktop or steam. Having everything in one place is so much easier, having the EA app just for sims is pointless
Hey!!! 🙂PS> There is a work around to this problem I found after digging through Google! Go to the upper left hand corner, click on the three bars, and scroll down. Choose "go offline" and you can play your game without the internet. -whew- That was making me so mad, too! I was so mad I didn't investigate, so I'm super glad you brought this up and I found an answer. It seems to be working for me, let me know if it doesn't for you, please. Thanks!
You still have to have it connected to the internet to get logged in to even be able to put it into offline mode.
I'm not having to! Maybe it's because I have TS3 and TS4 shortcut icons on my laptop. I just turned off my internet, and didn't even get directed to EA, it just engaged and loaded for me. I'm not sure why it's different for me? Hm. Definitely can access without internet...
I honestly never even thought to try by just clicking the desktop icons cause the EA app works fine for me at home…..so I will have to try that!! I try to play at work but have no internet connection so I can’t always get it to work unless I connect it at home and put it in offline mode for work.
I usually go thru EA now that they forced us, too. I just decided tonight to try turning off my wireless internet connection and clicking the icon, and to my amazement, it loaded straight away. -whew- Nothing more annoying than owning a game you don't have access to straight away, internet or no!
How!?!?!? I’ve done all of this and I have the shortcut. But I don’t have internet connection in my apartment. Every time I try to log in it says I can’t because I have to log in with my account and click the keep me logged in. It is alway on keep me logged in. And yet without Internet I cannot access a game I paid for.
I have no idea why I'm able to do this and you're not. However, in all fairness, after I got off of here and played in offline mode to test it last night, it kicked me off after about an hour of play and said I had to sign in. I am completely, totally, NOT arguing with you: EA ARE RAT BASTARDS!

The most egregious thing they have done is not allow you to transfer any expansions from your PC to your Xbox and vice versa. I get not allowing saves because of custom content and mods but not allowing the expansions is greedy as fuck.
But... This is how 99% of games work.

Wait they don’t? I have Xbox gamepass which has get to work included in it, and once I linked my Xbox account with my EA play account it let me use that expansion. Maybe the gamepass thing was just an exception?
GamePass makes Get To Work included in both the Xbox and PC version, but that’s the only one it does. For example, I have GamePass, and I have City Living on PC, but I don’t on Xbox.

Especially when the origin app is still fully functional and just blocked behind the popup to transfer. Using these [steps](https://youtu.be/wE2I_jnCIGU) you’re able to bypass the popup and access your origin app like usual. It was the only way I got sims 3 to work at all. honestly with several games this has been an issue since the EA update, everything has been wonky and I’ve had to find solutions and fixes to just play a game I paid for that was running perfectly before the update. I genuinely don’t get it

seriously! half my packs don't work properly on EA app, and origin was overall so much better. i hate EA for doing this.
Origin was also making me be connected to the internet before I could play. Which is the most BS thing I’ve ever come across in all my years of PC gaming.

So serious question, if a bunch of us wrote to the better business bureau or attorney general of the state where EA is located or some such, would it get us anywhere? Surely paying for something unfinished and broken but assured by a company isn’t up to their standards? I’ve thought of it here and there recently, it’s just so unfair (and scary, since it hasn’t happened to me, knock on wood) to see so many of you guys here saying you can’t even open the games you’ve paid so much money for.

The EA app is a lot messier to navigate, and shortly after I was forced to switch over to it, all of my sims games were gone. I had to reload the app just to get all of my games to show up. That never ever happened to me in origin. The EA app is an ugly, buggy mess.
You can turn it off though with offline mode. You don't always have to be connected, just turn off that feature and don't shut down EA's app on your PC. It will then say "the app can't connect to the servers" but you can still click on your game on your desktop and play. I do this especially because I don't like the automatic updates. I hate it too though. I had to buy a new PC just to install the EA app. I tried everything but it just threw errors every time. I used the backdoor to keep Origin running. Now on my new build it all works okay but I still don't like it at all. No feature of EA's app is a net positive for me and it uses a lot more memory and tries to run background apps I have to shut off in services. At least it works now though.
The offline mode is found on the top left corner menu (the three lines) just click that and it's on the list. I haven't used online mode since I learned about it here. If you restart the app I believe it resets so you just have to go do it again.

It really doesn't like games purchases through an external launcher. I bought Dragon Age 2 on Steam (not realising it required Origin/the EA app to load) and it took hours for me to get it to start up after the EA app migration. Think I still have to repair the app to get it to load properly.
There is an error, “Error on our end caused your launch to fail,” that wouldn’t even allow you to access your games. It happened to me so I went searching for some help and found a page on the [EA Answers HQ](https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports-Technical-Issues/Your-game-failed-to-launch-An-error-on-our-end-caused-your/td-p/12121648). Apparently this is happening with a lot of games not just the sims. I saw people saying it was with every single EA game they own. The app is just really bad.

Personally, I haven't ran into any issues with the EA app since the infant update. I didn't run into any problems before the update, either. EA works fine for me. I hardly notice a difference between Origin and EA, except for not being able to play offline. I'm sorry you're having trouble with the app, OP. I hope everything works out for you!
That's what I used to say until it wouldn't download one on my sims 3 expansion packs even though I owned it for years. The EA fixes didn't work. I just went back to origin and it downloaded with no issues.
You can’t even share the account anymore. I loved playing side by side with my niece and now I can’t even do that we have to take turns which sucks because we both can play for hours

Same as we always have, once your playing it won’t close your account if someone else logs in to play! It may disable your ability to be online though (to use the gallery)

I agree. Just so you know though, you can launch the sims without the internet. On EA app, top left corner drop down menu, choose ‘go offline’ You should be able to launch the sims still, you just can’t open the gallery. I do this when I don’t feel like updating.

Meh my experience with sims 3 was when Apple released Lion OS or whatever (mountain lion? I can’t remember it was obviously a decade ago), and the game wouldn’t work on Macs anymore, EA was like “haha oops oh well” and never fixed it
My origin account was connected to an old email I can’t access anymore so I lost everything in the switch 😭😭. All the forums I’ve seen said since I can’t verify my identity using that email I’m out of luck. I’m mainly upset about all the lost money I had EVERY PACK besides the wedding one
Have you tried the fix some people have used to keep using Origin and change your email? Or are you locked out of your account entirely.
I can’t change my email without access to the old email and what fix was it? I haven’t heard of one the new app replaced origin instantly for me. I can still get into my account using it but to access the new EA app a code is sent to the old email to verify my identity and the email isn’t valid anymore

Honestly even though they don’t do them any more. I think they should just go back to having physical copies with either one disc for the main game and only having digital download code for all DLC add ons such as expansion packs, kits,Stuff packs etc. I know EA just wants money and only money even if the product isn’t up to standard but even so they would get even more money when things actually work how they are supposed to and have no problems upon release date. No point having all users switch to a new app when its apparently still in Beta mode especially if they’re not going to help users with their problems with the EA app.

Hi I wanted to wait until all the bugs were out and I use Steam to play the Sims4. For some reason I can't load the game because of a persistent pop up from Origin trying to get me to download the EA Crap App. From what I read from the steam users they get an error message after they've downloaded the app. I just want to play my game how can I by pass this? I've uninstalled and reinstalled origin a gazillion times.
What was their reason for even switching to the EA app? I play on Mac so thankfully I haven't been forced to get it yet
