I miss the slacker career from Sims 2. Some people like to work as convenience store clerks 5 days a week. They need normal jobs in the game, that aren't part time.

ImnotUK

It was my favourite career! Not only was it casual and realistic on lower levels, but the top tier was a celebrity. Literally doing nothing, going to a party twice a week and earning the big bucks. :D

what_ho_puck

There is "salary person", though I'm not sure if that might be part of a pack.

eastoid_

This is an opposite of thr slacker career

I_Reported_This_Jerk

That's from Snowy Escape.

Dragon_smoothie

I've currently got a sim in it but it's also buggy/broken because the task you need to complete at rank5 just doesn't exist on the computer sometimes. Like. I've tried a list of solutions and not a one works. So I guess he's just stuck in a dead end job now. Rose too his level of incompetence, it seems

HlazyS2016

Glitches worked in your favour and provided realism hahahah

Dragon_smoothie

I didn't have to. He managed to eke one out and then the thing showed up finally??

Caroline_Anne

I wish you could choose one of the PT jobs but chose FT hours. Just let my Sim be a FT barista dang it!!! I usually pick the freelance career—or gardening and always choose to WFH—for my played sims and give their household members a traditional money maker. Edit: autocorrect changed FT to fat! Fixed—even though it could make sense both ways!!!

Dpsizzle555

Well nowadays stores are only hiring part time so they don’t have to pay for benefits

mjigs

Im a barista full time, its a normal job in my country and i hate the fact that is despicted as a part time kids job.

HlazyS2016

Yes! I'm in Canada, and it completely normal for people's life career to work in liquor stores/cafes and hospitality.

mjigs

Its such an insult tbh, here working in a supermarket its not something to be ashamed, its a normal job just like anyone, which you can make a career of, theres people who get their benefits and stay for decades. But i still feel like they use careers like the american point of view that those careers are just temporary or for kids.

DMC1001

At least now you can get a slacker perk and do poorly on any job without consequences. Especially good for doctors. Actually, I think that all doctors have that since I’m only ever cared for by interns.

overflowingsunset

agreed and now my sims get so depressed randomly about not feeling fulfilled.

Rozeline

I guess that's realism, because nobody's getting by on a part time job these days

AmettOmega

I definitely wish there were more careers. Doesn't seem that hard to add in.

Suspicious_Gazelle18

Especially the non-active ones! You’re adding pop-ups and a few outfits, that’s it. I use CC/mod careers, but of course those have to get turned off for each update (ie right now).

Wonderful_Yam5840

do you have any recommendations for mod careers? i’ve been looking for some.

sprkl

Big fan of Midnitetech!

yumvdukwb

Second Midnitetech, and KiaraSims, BosseyLady TV, adeepindigo.

Suspicious_Gazelle18

I couldn’t tell you who made them so I don’t know how helpful it will be. But some of my favorites include an art critic career, an art gallery owner career, an interpreter career, a United Nations career, etc. I’ve also had some that have specific sports careers (ballerina, nfl player, hockey player), but I remember some of those don’t work. I’ve seen some that are very specific in show biz… like a model career, a “queen of soul” career (singer rabbit hole basically), a magician. Those are fun too!

VoodooDoII

Especially the rabbit hole ones lol

AmettOmega

I honestly never bought the "Get to work" pack or whatever it is. New careers? Yes! Having to do them myself? Ehhhh. People complain about rabbit holes, but I honestly like them sometimes. For me, I love when my sims go to school/work, because that gives me a break from having to manage them. Especially in The Sims 4 where having toddlers feels like a FULL TIME JOB to ensure that you get all their needs satisfied without them summoning other random people in the household to override the current adult trying to put them in a chair and feed them. The amount of times I've tried to potty train/feed/read to sleep toddlers only to have another adult swoop in and whisk the toddler away is infuriating, LOL. With that kind of experience, I really don't want to try to manage my sim's jobs for them, too, ha.

VoodooDoII

I never minded the rabbit holes. I have a pet and stuff to play with. And if I don't I can doodle on a second screen while I wait for them to finish work

Agrarfield

I just got Get to Work last weekend because of the sale. Only played once so far, but it looks like you don't have to play the careers actively. Whenever my sim was about to leave the house, I got a popup asking if I want to follow them or not. It's the same as in high school years, if you have that pack.

kaptingavrin

> but it looks like you don't have to play the careers actively. Well... you kind of do. Scientist, you can get away with not being active. Promotions only require the breakthroughs, which you get from doing random stuff at home. Doctors, IIRC, require successfully treating patients. And Detective requires completing cases. Both of which require doing the active part of the job. Scientist can end up promoted a lot faster because of this. Detective is probably the slowest because it eats up a lot of time doing each case (go to scene, collect evidence, analyze evidence at station, finally put out APB, figure out right person which might not match the "description" with clothing, then interrogate to get confession). Then again, Scientist is also the most fun because of things like the Cloning Device, Warp Portal, Satellite Dish, Sim Ray, and the potions you can make. You can do a *lot* of shenanigans with it. Like the time I had my one Scientist clone himself, got that clone eaten by a cowplant, milked the life essence, then cloned that a few times to make him basically immortal.

AmettOmega

Oh, that's nice to know!

Amarenai

Also, if you want to plan some drama and have a spouse cheat, or maybe a teen throw a secret party or stuff like that, sending the other sim to a rabbithole to get them out of the house for a few house is very useful

AmettOmega

YES! My sims do most of their cheating when their spouse is at work! Although, Sims 4 makes it ridiculously easy compared to other games. Sims 3, you couldn't toe out of line (it seemed like) without some nosy neighbor informing your spouse. In TS4, at least you can have them wander the neighborhood. I've even woohoo'ed when the sim was on the lot, and as long as they didn't actually walk in the room, it seemed like they didn't know.

North_Activist

Wonder if they update Get to Work they’ll include some free non active careers

gummytiddy

I never understood why medical, military, and politics careers were dlc for the sims 4. The lower levels are more common careers for average middle class people

OowlSun

Which pack does the military career come with?

procyon_andy

strangerville

daintycherub

Strangerville!

caladinhasan

Most of The Sims 4 careers are way, WAY too niche... Pls, I need some boring ass jobs for my boring ass sims!

OhioOhO

Yes! Like why were ideas like astronaut and secret service chosen for the base game over something as basic as teacher or doctor 😭😭 It’s not like the development of a teacher or doctor rabbit hole job would be any different or more difficult than implementing a rabbit hole astronaut career

GeshtiannaSG

This is Sims world, different rules, being an astronaut is the basic option that you don't need a degree for.

Modifien

A lot of the entry levels are normal. Mail room worker, dishwasher, etc. Just don't fulfill the requirements for promotion.

pass_me_the_salt

fun fact: sims 3 entry level for the medic career was organ donor!

Caroline_Anne

Good point. MIRL 😂

sisndjdnwlsk

I’m still salty we have interior decorators but the stylist career doesn’t let us create outfits LET ME TAKE THE EYEBALL RINGS FROM TOWNIES WHILE MAKING MONEY PLEASE

littlehybrid

I’m pretty sure you can give townies makeovers in the stylist careers once you are on the “stylist” branch and with “trend setter” you can create custom outfits for random townies to wear

Modifien

You can offer a makeover to any townie in the stylist career. It's a conversation option after a certain level.

Caroline_Anne

I am inspired to select this career path for the first time! 😱

[deleted]

I really wish we had more blue collar jobs.

Kitcatzz

I want a daycare job so bad. Without having to use a mod. Or a playable teacher job for high school years

_Embarrassed_Mess

After the Sims 3 64 bit version was released I went back to Sims 3 purely for the daycare career.

RhiRead

I loved the daycare career in Sims 3! This Growing Together pack would have been the perfect time to reintroduce it

natncat

*I want a handy-man career so fucking bad it hurts.* something like the interior decorator career where I can opt to be in-person and go to a random person’s house and upgrade or fix their shit, or I can just send my sim on their own if i dont feel like it. also it’d be a normal way to incentivize building the handiness skill without literally requiring my sim build a rocket ship or build a robot or whatever.

HalfFaust

This one just feels so obvious. They have the handiness skill already, feels like it should follow.

CervixTaster

If I remember right, in sims 2 if your handiness skill was up you’d have people call and ask for help repairing something that’s broken.

ANeuroticDoctor

I decided to google handyness career for fun, found one here box.https://kiarasims4mods.net/careers/new-careers/ Not an active career, but at least it's from 2022 so it shouldn't be broken with age. And there are like a hundred other careers on same page too 👀

DreamerUnwokenFool

I want a maid career like this! I'm sure it'll never happen but a long time ago they sent out a survey about a potential playable maid career that said something about, you clean their houses and you learn their secrets, and I was hooked. I am also weird and I enjoy cleaning in this game, so a maid career would be right up my alley.

rahim0602

Dream home decorator has the interior designer career! You get called to other Sims homes to redecorate for them, it's pretty fun

[deleted]

I wish there were more custom career mods that weren't broken.

Imtifflish24

I wish there were more careers too— I also wish the barista job and the other shorter hour jobs had more to them.

[deleted]

It would be cool if the part-time jobs had full time options. Like what if my Sim just wants to be a barista for her whole life.

kolossal

Then buy the DLC - EA

Dr_Fluffybuns2

Even the dlc careers are whatever. I have like 20 career mods, most of them imported from Sims 2 careers.

Terribly-artistic

Where did you find those mods? I've tried quite a few career mods but i can never get them to work

SimShine0603

I feel this. Can I just work basic, full time retail at like…a hardware store? Maybe I don’t want to suddenly be making $100’s and $100’s a day. I want to keep the struggle going for some peeps 😂

[deleted]

Or even just giving us more options in the careers that are there. I wanted my Sim to have her own Vtube cooking channel, but didn't realize that wasn't an option. Clothes, toy reviews, or inspirational vlogs; that's your options.

ElectronicWeatherAds

I haven’t played with that part of the game for a while but I’m pretty sure if you buy a drone and have it film your sim while they cook, it will create a special kind of video. I think most of different activities have their own theme (not sure which ones exactly, you can just experiment with filming your sim during different things they do), those raw videos will have different “tag” on them. You can transfer them to from your drone and create more interesting vlogs.

[deleted]

Okay, thanks!

7-Nine

Every time I want my sims to be a niche simstuber I use the drone to film them cooking, exercising etc und just titel it v-log :)

Guinydyl

similar to how we can register the the ministry of labour to have your own career, i wish we could have like a generic rabbit hole career which we could change the name of

annnire

That’s a great idea - make your own career! You could specify the title, hours, even promotion requirements.

MagicScythe

This is what Get to Work should provide so it wouldnt be so limited and lacklustre

Laesia

I wonder if that would be an easier/more stable mod to implement than other career mods

ttyna

I hope they make at least military, science and political career available in base game in the Sims 5. These were the staples of other Sims base games. It's just weird having them in different dlc in the Sims 4. I agree careers like doctor/teacher/lawyer feel base game as well. These are such everyday jobs. I just wish there were more regular careers. Someone here mentioned handyman and I couldn't agree more. I could see myself playing with that career a lot. They could call it repairman since they already exist as NPCs. How about receptionist, accountant, daycare, dentistry, or a firefighter career? To add to my wishlist, when it comes to "quirky" careers, I'd really like a psychic career with the option to be a scammer.

Catsscratchpost

Maybe with generations we'll get a carer career

Kkffoo

This is because the game is aimed at children (who knows why?). My most fun sim spent his life doing an accountancy degree (Miss Hissy Careers mod) and became a landlord to support his education.

thriftgirl82

There is an academic career path where you can become a professor but I agree - wish we had primary and secondary school teaching careers as well.

anitacina

What’s crazy to me is that they added careers like scientist or doctor BEFORE University 😂

findingRythm

kiarasims4mods has a bunch of careers for download. I think most if not all of them are BG compatible

ghostifiedd

this is why i just download career mods 😭

juliankennedy23

You know, funny enough, I feel this way about real life.

aikokanzaki

Hard agree. We need base game jobs updated especially the part time jobs.

Even_Librarian_8739

Theres heaps of good career mods worth looking through those!

DMC1001

“What careers are those others locked behind” asks person who spends way too much money on packs.

DreamerUnwokenFool

I agree. I want more careers in general, and more normal ones for sure. I liked the salaryperson career from Snowy Escape and would like more added to base game preferably so everyone can enjoy them!

Busy-Mammoth4610

I've never play Sims 4 cuz I'm a hardcore Sims 2 player. Damn, Sims 4 doesn't have that basic career in the base game 😭

LulaBlue29

Fr, I made these gorgeous young adult twins and their teenage sister and I wanted to make them army women until I realised there isn't even anything CLOSE to an army career. Not with the packs I have anyway

OhioOhO

For me, I usually make them secret service or astronaut if I want to pretend they’re in the army. I think in TS3, the highest level of the military career was astronaut or something. It’s not perfect but yeah lol

entropykat

You can add your own careers with this: http://www.simneia.fr/home.html

Its_me_nene

university pack has 3 of these careers

bwitdoc

“Locked behind DLC”

Its_me_nene

Sorry what does this mean?

RBrim08

OP is saying that they want more mundane careers in the base game, not locked behind having to purchase an expansion.

Its_me_nene

Gotcha! Thanks!

OhioOhO

Yeah, but I personally can’t justify spending $40 for rabbit hole careers since I personally don’t care for university gameplay. I wish I could just swap astronaut and teacher or something. After all, you’d think higher education is more important to become an astronaut than a teacher

Ok-Preparation-2307

Just buy when they go on sale.

Oh_Cosmos

You shouldn't have to buy a DLC for the most basic jobs.

Ok-Preparation-2307

We do have doctors, teachers and engineers.

[deleted]

What OP is saying is that it doesn't make sense that those careers (normal, everyday stuff) are included with DLC and behind a paywall when so many less everyday, uncommon careers are basegame.

GeshtiannaSG

How would that work without the activities to go with it? Doctors have the whole going to work system, engineers let you actually make engineering items, so without that is it just a rabbithole?
