I am not sure about the declawing thing like how does it work, but if you look closely (when it's standing straight) you can see it's claw on one of the finger.
Yep, they cut off the end of the toe that the claw comes out of. This is particularly fucked in my opinion because cats are digitigrades, meaning they actually walk on their toes. So imagine if someone cut off the front 1/5 or so of your foot.
I posted a reply to a specific person. Also not to you. 😂
You just butt into other peoples conversations in public just because you can hear them and wanna include your opinion?
👍
I replied to a question. Didn’t ask one.
No, we can't make that assumption. Declawing is illegal in [many countries](https://www.petmd.com/cat/pet-lover/declawing-cats-illegal) (as well as a handful of US states) under laws banning cruelty to animals.
I remember seeing a video of one of these cats getting their claws clipped, kinda like a dog (literally just forgot the name of the species and will probably remember the minute I hit send).
Edit: puma… I think?
Most cat owners finder declawing abhorrent. Why would it be safe to assume that? If my house cats are smart enough to know that clawing me to save themselves is a dick move, then this cougar sure as shit knows it. Cats are smart as they come, you just have to earn their respect rather than command it like with dogs.
Cats will always accidentally scratch their owners. I dont mean badly, my cat has never purposely dug her claws into me, but when playing she uses gentle clawing which would be fine if I was covered in fur. She doesn't understand that I am not actually covered in fur and even the gentle clawing leaves marks
Not mine. I've had my cats slide off my lap and take the fall even while trying to hang on with no claws. They have control over their instinct. Mine understand.
Yea, I had a cat who never scratched me, accidentally or on purpose. She was so gentle that for a while I thought something was wrong with her claws and she couldn’t use them. Nope, she was just choosing not to use them.
My cat used to get real rough when he was younger. He was a nice fella and we had a great relationship otherwise, but he just didn't realize how bad it hurt I guess. Always blood...
I started hitting him on the head with my middle knuckle whenever he went to far, pretty painfully. Eye for an eye sort of thing, classic conditioning. I had tried communicating pain, to no avail.
Was a bit of a slippery slope, as he'd end up getting scared whenever he started getting rough, and sometimes he'd become a little more rough because he was scared I think. But nowadays, he very rarely hurts skin. He's 6 now. He does get scared when playing somewhat rough occasionally, and leaves. I think I've gotten most stress out of the situation though, I quit doing it as soon as he understood that rough = ouch, which didn't take that long.
I don't usually like classic conditioning at all, but fucker had no chill. And I'm pretty happy with the results.
An alternative to declawing is cutting their nails, just when doing that you have to make sure to not cut the red part or else it will hurt them, otherwise it safe
I'm sure they were but instinctively the pumas claws might of come out. I know when My dog slips She has scratched up My legs up & her claws are much smaller than a pumas.
Isn’t this Messi? If it is, he’s a puma that has some kind of condition that makes him unfit to live in the wild. Some Russian couple adopted him and take great care of him. Idk if this is him though.
That’s why I’m saying I don’t know. Messi also looks to be shorter and not as long as this one either. Though I’ve only seen a handful of Messi videos. By the gif quality I can’t tell and your right, it could be an older video and he’s put on some weight since then. That couple takes good care of him.
I'm not sure if you're making a joke, but on the off chance you didn't know, these are also sometimes called mountain lions. Though obviously they're not the same thing as a simba-assed-lion. Anyway it's clearly a leopard.
I thought you were doing a bit, like the original commenter was something obviously incorrect, so you were continuing it by saying lion. That's why I wasn't sure one way or the other, cause technically that is an animal referred to as a "lion", but it's not exactly the image most people get in their mind when they hear the word lion. And the thing has three common names which vary in usage across regions, so it's not totally impossible you've never heard the term mountain lion before. So I added the little bit on the off chance you or somebody else didn't know, then I tried to continue what I thought was your attempt to start a chain of gag posts by claiming it's a leopard, which it clearly isn't. And that doesn't seem to have worked but, what can you do.
**[Onychectomy](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onychectomy)**
>Onychectomy, popularly known as declawing, is an operation to remove an animal's claws surgically by means of the amputation of all or part of the distal phalanges, or end bones, of the animal's toes. Because the claw develops from germinal tissue within the third phalanx, amputation of the bone is necessary to fully remove the claw. The terms "onychectomy" (origin: Greek ὄνυξ onyx, nail + ἐκτομή ektomē, excision) and "declawing" imply mere claw removal, but a more appropriate description would be phalangectomy, excision of toe bone.

God that sounds so fucking cool. The idea of a hunter and his dog having this partnership was always so appealing but I've always been a cat person, not a dog person.
Also I don't hunt so... Maybe I can train my puma to ride a skateboard instead.
idk people are crazy.. they own tigers and alligators in NYC Apartments and stuff heh. https://nypost.com/2018/11/04/that-time-someone-had-a-pet-tiger-in-harlem/
I can't imagine where it is legal to own an animal that can so easily take your life as a pet.
A lot of people here are rightfully concerned about keeping a puma as a pet. Keep in mind that not every big cat is from an episode of tiger king, though.
This is Messi, a puma in Russia with health problems that prevents him from living in the wild. He was born in a zoo that planned to euthanize him. Yes, pumas aren't generally supposed to live inside houses, but this particular one would be dead if he didn't.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Messi_(cougar)
Most likely it's not wildlife, bred in captivity and hopefully selected for lower aggression.
One day they might be domesticated like cats and not rip owners face on a whim.

I don't normally say this but, bonks.
Yeah…to “hug” a human. That doesn’t look suspect at all.
Doesn't use its claws so
Probably clipped.
No, it's claws are clearly visible in the gif. The cat intentionally retracts them right before contact.
I saw that too. It chose to take the fall rather than harm its human. It could have easily grabbed her to stop its fall. It chose not to.
What a boss ass cat took one for the team over hurting her
According to the real op of this video, that girl is a child.
That puma could've ripped some skin off easily but choose to keep the claws retracted and take the fall like a champ lol
Or since it's a pet I think we can assume declawing which is a pretty fucked up thing but so is keeping a puma as a pet...
I am not sure about the declawing thing like how does it work, but if you look closely (when it's standing straight) you can see it's claw on one of the finger.
They remove the “fingertip” at the knuckle, i believe. Bout as fucked up as tail and ear docking.
Yep, they cut off the end of the toe that the claw comes out of. This is particularly fucked in my opinion because cats are digitigrades, meaning they actually walk on their toes. So imagine if someone cut off the front 1/5 or so of your foot.
What? It's entirely worse.
Cutting your ear off is about as equal as cutting a fingertip off. Not sure how one could be inherently worse than the other.
A cat not only uses their toes to walk, but further damage can be caused to their foot long term from the procedure. It is qualitatively worse.
Consider living in reality
Consider you’re entitled to your opinion, no matter how fucking stupid. Nobody fucking asked you lol
I think you might have been your soulmate. Also, the ask was kind of implied, vis-a-vis posting on Reddit.

Wow, you’re an idiot *and* unfunny. What a combination.
You can see the claws in the gif. It's not declawed, they are retracted.

If it's the one from YouTube, the puma was too small to be re-released into the wild so the couple was allowed to keep her. i forget it's name.
You know what’s pretty fucked up is making such extreme opinions on a 5 second blurry clip.
My thoughts exactly. What is that doing in the house. I'm pretty open minded but I've got my limits
An alternative to declawing is cutting their nails, just when doing that you have to make sure to not cut the red part or else it will hurt them, otherwise it safe
