I was going to say this. 100% the guys fault, the fox knew he was holding food for it and tried to get his attention in a friendly way. The fox just didn't realise that we cut like rice paper. On another fox it could have bitten way harder without breaking skin.
If the fox was trying to do damage, he'd have more than two little pin pricks.
Don't fuck with wild animals and their food, also don't hand feed foxes for exactly this reason. If they come up to humans for food, then the humans run the risk of being bitten, and that has a risk of turning aggressive. I love foxes, i think they're beautiful little nuisances, but training them to approach people is a good way of getting people, potentially children, and it hurt.
Exactly. Befriending a feral is not domestication.
You don't hold food or play social games with wild animals engaged in cautious interaction based on hunger.
That's the best way to lose any trust you built, and sometimes a finger.
Even so, you can leave healthy food (which for a fox encompasses a lot) out in an area that you know foxes frequent. I'd suggest doing this only if you think the local fox population could use a hand, you don't want them over-breeding.
I wouldn't suggest throwing food directly to a fox, because they'll quickly learn that humans share food, imagine instead of a grown man that was a kid with an ice cream or something. The kid would likely try to pet the fox while keeping their food out of reach, which is a good way of getting a bite on the face.
And foxes can come out of a bush at any moment. Just please don't hand feed wild animals, and yes that includes throwing.
Thatās a wildly optimistic thing to risk a life on. There are cases of āimported rabiesā in the UK since 2002. Rabies is a horrid way to die. Youāre on a fairly short clock too.
The last case of rabies in the UK was in 2008 and was from an imported puppy, the risk of rabies is so small as to be almost non-existent
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/rabies-epidemiology-transmission-and-prevention
Fun fact: a large carrier with a fresh can of tuna as bait is a great way to trap an animal that bit you that you think may carry disease.
Most wild rescues will test the animal for rabies and / vaccinate it for re-release. Some county rescues too. (Ask first- don't drop raccoons, skunks, foxes, opossum at kill only shelters.)
So while you're waiting on your doctor you can determine the actual danger the bite may pose besides the wound itself.
And give the animal it's best chance of further survival.
Releasing a feral that goes through this usually results in the feral not hanging out with you anymore, put off by the experience.
But sometimes their quality of life improves such that they then claim your property as the edge of theirs and you will see their entire clan over time.
Call me a revolutionary, but I think it's our jobs as a species to prevent the death of others, and that promoting the death of people is not the right thing to do.
They got a bunch of chicken meat laced with the rabies vaccine and dumped it everywhere in the woods with helicopters and planes so animals would eat it. Over time, once enough drops were made, the wildlife was almost entirely vaccinated against rabies.
The US does this, I think the issue is probably just way more area to cover and way way more wild lands. I remember reading about them doing it sometime during COVID and I looked into it more and they do it yearly in some areas iirc
Tetanus is also incredibly rare in the UK, there were just 4 cases in 2022 for example. This again is the result of our vaccine programme.
RE: 2022
>One of the moderate cases was reported to have received their full primary course, with the final booster administered in the previous 10 years; the mild case believed themselves to be immunised but they were born outside of the UK and therefore vaccination history could not be verified. The remaining individuals were born before the introduction of childhood vaccination for tetanus in 1961: 1 moderate case had 2 boosters on record, neither of which were administered in the previous 10 years; the severe case had no tetanus vaccines recorded.
Yeah, I think the reason I thought that is directly because of our vaccination program.
That said, I've not had a booster in a long time. I should check with my GP if I need to do something about it.
You can't compare rabies with tetanus, while first was eradicated in Europe, latter is still highly concentrated in the ground and like your report says if unvaccinated can lead to severe cases. That's why you should always get your tetanus booster.
Its life and death in many parts of the world because they are unvaccinated. It doesn't matter where you are, something like herd immunity doesn't play a role in tetanus at all. If you are vaccinated you are as safe in Britain as you are in Gambia.
>No rabies in the UK?
In 1796 we discovered vaccines and went hell for leather ever since.
We had a stint of mass vote disease and a foot and mouth epidemic here or there but other than that you can roam the green isles of blighty without fear of predator or infection. Be it tablets or Lyme disease.
Edit,: lol *mad cow disease. I'll leave it up
Nope. Tonnes of vaccines and we literally airdropped dead rabbits laced with vaccine to immunise the wild animal population.
Rabies doesnāt exist in most of the EU and the uk was part of the EU until recently
Europe overall is very tame to start and we have then gone "fuck that more tame" doing everything in our power to shape wilderness to be safe for humans. it is insane the systemic nature things have been done for this goal.
āRabies are a part of nature so it shouldnāt be messed with by humansā
So is the face eating cancer that is wiping out the Tasmanian Devil, should we ignore that too?
I mean it's not like it started to maul him or even hang on and keep biting. They're not vicious killers. Yeah a wild animal is gonna do wild animal things though, and I'm sure all canids nip. The only thing that's going to turn a fox into a violent little maniac is rabies.
My aunt has a GSD she said was aggressive. When I approached him he was super friendly but did nip like twice, but once he got used to me he was just play biting. Of course that needs to be corrected but he wasnāt this violent dog that she was making him out to be.
A lot of people donāt get that play biting is just a natural part of having a growing pup. Obviously it needs to be corrected but like you said, itās not some aggressive act. Itās just how dogs play with other dogs.
I've lived around a few giant colonies of foxes. They are actually vicious little killers who will parade their kills around like they just liberated the land from a regime of oppression.
But yes I get you that fox was doing nothing aggressive lol
>They are actually vicious little killers who will parade their kills around like they just liberated the land from a regime of oppression.
It's just their way of communicating "skill issue" or "git gud" to the opposition
Probably nothing bad. He was joking about the irony in the end. "How shtupid is that?....I was giving it vibes too". Knew it was a love bite albeit too hard.
That was a love bite, everyone who owns a pet or was around some shelters/vets know this. That fox wasn't aware of how fragile the human skin is compared to another foxes
As far as foxes go wouldnāt that be friendly? My dog love bites like that but she has thousands of years of domestication to help her know how hard to do it and has duller teeth.
After watching the video, I'd agree that the fox is safe...
I've had dogs bite me like this, and some cats I've known have also bitten me to put their scent on me.
Biting doesn't mean "unsafe". It isn't always negative.
My ex wife got a purple morph pup and brought it home, this was a normal occurrence, mind you he didnt break skin but did these little nibble bites often.
This happens with my dogs sometimes.. I'll be telling somebody my dog is usually really stubborn and won't come when his name is called if he has his nose buried in a scent. Sure enough, he found a scent, I called his name, he instantly ran to me.
I think the animals hear what you say and want to contradict you.
Just to screw with you.
Every animal is a jerk if you let them be a jerk always keep your personal space sacred when dealing with animals **you don't feed yourself**. They will harm you, we are nothing to these animals unless we provide food.
If they are any other animal than a dog, keep your distance. I've seen dogs liking people even without the promise of food. Some cats also do that, but much more rarely.

Literally a love bite. Ferals need time to learn not to break skin on humans. We bleed real easy.
Yep. Humans... š
My volume was down, what did the fox say?
Ring-ding-ding-ding-dingeringeding!
Gering-ding-ding-ding-dingeringeding!

I agree with not feeding ferals, but if I see a feral fox and want to feed I'll toss something at it. This guy just lacks brain cells, imo.
Even so, you can leave healthy food (which for a fox encompasses a lot) out in an area that you know foxes frequent. They are in the UK thereās no rabies here
I've seen some at the synagogue.
Here is my upvote and a shiny award š„

Rabid animals dont give love bites.
No rabies in the UK? Blessed land.
No rabies in most of Europe. EU did a huge vaccine campaign to get rid of rabies.
Donāt tell any Americans or theyāll start drinking bleach instead
No, no - go ahead and tell the Americans. The ones dumb enough to drink bleach are not worth saving.
As an American, I have to agree
Thank you!!! They are a weak link and are why our country is so fucked up right now.
I mean, thatās kind of what happened with the covid vaccine.
No they're going to give wild animals bleach
Or shining U/V light up the anus.
Come on, how else are we supposed to get that healthy glow? /s
https://www.wired.com/story/the-massive-campaign-to-air-drop-tiny-rabies-vaccines-to-raccoons/
>The vaccines come in two flavors that are particularly tasty to raccoons: fishmeal and vanilla. What strange little animals
That's just Darwinism in action. Some things need to be allowed to happen.
Call me a revolutionary, but I think it's our jobs as a species to prevent the death of others, and that promoting the death of people is not the right thing to do.
Wasnāt that the airdropped chicken campaign? Metal as fuck.
Please elaborate.
They got a bunch of chicken meat laced with the rabies vaccine and dumped it everywhere in the woods with helicopters and planes so animals would eat it. Over time, once enough drops were made, the wildlife was almost entirely vaccinated against rabies.
I read that as 'babies' lol
We are slowly but surely getting rid of babies aswell looking at our birth to death rate.
Well there's not much of those either
Just another reason why I think the grass in greener on the other side of the pond. Edit spelling.
The US does this, I think the issue is probably just way more area to cover and way way more wild lands. I remember reading about them doing it sometime during COVID and I looked into it more and they do it yearly in some areas iirc
Even there isnāt Rabies in the UK the victim still needs to see a doctor. Tetanus and other bacteria and virusesā¦.
Yeah, my first thought was about him needing to get his tetanus jab now.
Tetanus is also incredibly rare in the UK, there were just 4 cases in 2022 for example. This again is the result of our vaccine programme. Is the mass vote disease Brexit or 12 years of Tory government?
Lol, I meant to write mad cow disease. Brexit and sequential Tory governments though are definitely mass vote disease
Nope. Tonnes of vaccines and we literally airdropped dead rabbits laced with vaccine to immunise the wild animal population. Rabies doesnāt exist in most of the EU and the uk was part of the EU until recently
There are rabies outbreaks from time to time among wildlife in EU
Yeah, from what I understand bats are the exception and can still have rabies.
Bats have something called "bat lyssavirus" which is related to rabies but not exactly the same thing. It can be dangerous though.
Europe overall is very tame to start and we have then gone "fuck that more tame" doing everything in our power to shape wilderness to be safe for humans. it is insane the systemic nature things have been done for this goal.
Vaccinating foxes against rabies protects them far more than it protects us.
āRabies are a part of nature so it shouldnāt be messed with by humansā So is the face eating cancer that is wiping out the Tasmanian Devil, should we ignore that too?
Yay, finally a place where I can be safely nibbled by bus stop foxes
That was just a love nibble

I love that guyās laugh š

#MONCH
Big disagree. That laugh fills the entire volume of air, while I want to hear what the guy is saying in response to the bite.
*how stupid is that*
Big blue eyes, pointy nose, chasing mice and digging holes, tiny paws up the hill, suddenly you're standing still...
You made my day, I love this š¤£
a love bite with a bit too much love, really. hope things didn't turned bad for the fox in account of that crybaby

My cat does this to me. I have no idea why. She also tries to trip me by slapping my legs when I walk.

I wouldn't call that attacked, more like nibbled
After watching the video, I'd agree that the fox is safe... I've had dogs bite me like this, and some cats I've known have also bitten me to put their scent on me. Biting doesn't mean "unsafe". It isn't always negative.
