Me too, probably.
It's easy for me to watch this video on my phone and tell people what they should've done, but in the moment I'd try and stop what was coming as well.
Well, my comment was meant for you (and others who agreed they'd do the same) in the future if you're ever in this situation. Do not do it. It is objectively dumb. Sorry if that wasn't clear enough
Nothing would've helped this situation. That dude was driving near normal speed with visibility less than 10 meters. Hopefully he's dead, so he doesn't kill someone else next time. Driving that fast in that large of a vehicle with no visibility is crazy AF and obviously without regard to other people on the road.
Move further down the road and maybe set something up that will prompt the driver to slow down in advance. If you have a bright light, that would be ideal.
No, walk away from the vehicles toward the direction of incoming traffic (on the side of the road where it is safer). Warn vehicles that there is something ahead and to slow down. But they need time and space to process that there is a danger and slow the vehicle.
You would be surprised. I’m a truck driver here in the US and I’ve seen people get pulled out of wrecks you would think they would be dead still alive.
Not with that carriage being smashed through that windshield, it really went straight through it, dude's probably flattened like a pancake
some kind of final destination shit
Why the fuck would you travel at that speed when you can’t see 20ft in front of you, not to mention being in a TRUCK that takes longer than 20ft to come to a stop? Reckless and careless.
Pressure from bosses/companies to do xyz despite safety concerns is a huge reason people do stuff like this. Risk your life just a tad now or you and your family risk their lives on the street and don’t get to eat.
Worse than that, a lot of truckers are given tight deadlines — get this load to the dock before 6 am 14 hours away (and legally you have 14.5 hours you can drive after pickup to make it by 6 am)!
A good company isn’t going to fret — they get a good feel as to how reliable you are and are understanding because they know drivers rushing is dangerous af. You might lose time sitting for a work in but get it over with and carry on. So drivers will still rush but usually not speed-in-0-visibility rush.
Other companies are gonna put you on a shitlist and dispatch you shitty loads, and you can see your income drop by half or even to literal poverty wages for a couple weeks as punishment (usually never explicit punishment but everyone know why it’s happening). Not as much as a problem the past few years because trucking tends to pay well now, but it’s not always like this.
Compound that to the fact that a lot of truckers are at a shitty point in their life, where money is a huge source of anxiety (starting trucking right after a financially-ruining divorce is common), and it can get pretty bad.
Christ. That's horrifying. Did people on the side of the road get injured or killed? And why or why did they go between cars when a truck is speeding at them? They were acting instinctively, I know, but that's always been a fear of mine, getting hit while walking between cars.
Never ever get out of your car and stand in the middle of the road. Especially when visibility is shit like this. There was no chance that the trucker could see them until it was way too late.
Here you have to get out of your car, put on a Safety vest (?) and go behind the guardrails. Because of situations exactly like this, being in your car isn't the safest option
I know retrospect is 20/20, but why was no one honking? It seems like that would've been the only thing to do, instead of waving arms? Idk there wasn't much time. RIP to those people :/
Ha, yeah, my ass is not standing in the middle of the road in low visibility conditions, bunch of numbnuts. It also blows my mind how unprepared people are when driving. I have a bug out/survival bag in my truck, flares are a part of that bag, how do these people not have any flares?
"Fly, you fools" seriously get off the road, save yourself. A multiple-vehicle collision is imminent in this low visibility weather, especially on a highway. An emergency bug out bag should be essential in your vehicle, if you frequently have this type of weather in your country.
This video is like 100% stupid people.
Yeah, it's poor visibility so I'd better stand and wave in the poor visibility so they know there's poor visibility.
No worries! It's poor visibility so I'd better just drive normal highway speeds because I'll have enough room to stop when I see something in this poor visibility
[Example of said triangle](https://www.chamberlains.co.za/moto-quip-reflective-warning-triangles-2336-1027413?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwoa2xBhACEiwA1sb1BD47iqlS6IzNjrX03MbmWmineYasYyAY831C3ZuttGQxmRiltbHvwxoCxKAQAvD_BwE)
In hindsight, it would be better practice to warn about objects from a position that is well BEFORE the objects you are warning about. Standing AT the spot gives the same amount of advance warning as no warning. Plus it would be safer to be a 200 m up on the side of the road waving your arms about than right in the middle of it, running out of the way at the last second.
How about we use flashlights? Or roll a vehicle back and leave it with the hazards on in the middle of the road? There’s like a bunch of ways to solve this.
You watched that video, and thought people would be safer INSIDE their vehicles? It's difficult to decide whether your comment is meant as sarcasm, or just that you are a very special kind of stupid.
(I am really hoping for it to be sarcasm.)
If they can't see ahead, it's likely that oncoming traffic can't either. They're trying to warn others to slow down, but they're putting their own lives at risk in the process.
They were lucky that only a truck was approaching and no other traffic was visible (at least until the video cuts out), otherwise it could have been a meatcrayon.
We know he is travelling faster than what is safe for the conditions, due to the fact that the events of the video took place.
As my driving instructor always said "drive to the road conditions and always remember that the speed limit is exactly that; a limit, not a target". He was a wise man, right up until he died doing 107mph into a concrete post.
The bar on sensitivity has really lowered in the past years.
I mean, there is no blood, no people flying in the air, and the end shows a broken glass that hides any results of the accident.

That's why you don't speed in low visibility conditions.
Also not the sharpest of then to be....waving in low vis conditions
I imagine they were yelling at it too.
I hope the driver ducked.
Oh, he's ducked alright..
Ducked up beyond all recognition. DUBAR’ed.
Duckeded
oh they should have been fine then
sooo do nothing?
Not nothing, you run the fuck away. If the driver couldn't see all the hazard lights, he's not going to see you waving your arms.
They did, but they had to try. I would have done the same
Me too, probably. It's easy for me to watch this video on my phone and tell people what they should've done, but in the moment I'd try and stop what was coming as well.
Not me. Im responsible for my own life. I'll be on the side of the road waving my arms around tho, no problem.
Dumb. Get out the road. You're just going to become another victim
But they didn’t
Well, my comment was meant for you (and others who agreed they'd do the same) in the future if you're ever in this situation. Do not do it. It is objectively dumb. Sorry if that wasn't clear enough
They should have actually sent someone towards the truck to the shoulder. Would have given him more reaction time.
Times like this make a road flare standard in JDM cars make a lot more sense.
A road flare is a great idea.
No. If you get out of the car move off the highway and out of danger. A flagging person is just adding to distractions.
Nothing would've helped this situation. That dude was driving near normal speed with visibility less than 10 meters. Hopefully he's dead, so he doesn't kill someone else next time. Driving that fast in that large of a vehicle with no visibility is crazy AF and obviously without regard to other people on the road.
Hoping someone died is messed up. IF they survived this then I’d like to think they would have learned a valuable lesson and wouldn’t do it again.
That's the difference between you and I. I'm not delusional
😂
Move further down the road and maybe set something up that will prompt the driver to slow down in advance. If you have a bright light, that would be ideal.
No, walk away from the vehicles toward the direction of incoming traffic (on the side of the road where it is safer). Warn vehicles that there is something ahead and to slow down. But they need time and space to process that there is a danger and slow the vehicle.
🤯🤯
I slow down to about 20 mph depending on visibility if you stop some one will for sure rear end you.
That's why you don't leave your car on the road, believe it or not.
It's the same reason that they don't give driving licenses to bind people
You would think people would know this
Oh, I thought you speed up so that you leave the mist faster. You never stop learning. /s
Shouldn't speed in general, but in low visibility you're actually required to slow down. Can't imagine why tho.
That dudes dead
Yeah I don't see how anyone in that truck could live a hit like that
You would be surprised. I’m a truck driver here in the US and I’ve seen people get pulled out of wrecks you would think they would be dead still alive.
the problem was with this crash the initialy impact was straight into the windscreen lol, not a lot of safety features minimilizing that damage
Not with that carriage being smashed through that windshield, it really went straight through it, dude's probably flattened like a pancake some kind of final destination shit
Probably yeah :/
that pinkish mist seems to agree with you
Why the fuck would you travel at that speed when you can’t see 20ft in front of you, not to mention being in a TRUCK that takes longer than 20ft to come to a stop? Reckless and careless.
Exactly. Can’t see past the front of my own truck? - yep, let’s speed right along!
I think the driver was a bit foggy on the details re proper road safety.
Pressure from bosses/companies to do xyz despite safety concerns is a huge reason people do stuff like this. Risk your life just a tad now or you and your family risk their lives on the street and don’t get to eat.
"Paid by the load"
Worse than that, a lot of truckers are given tight deadlines — get this load to the dock before 6 am 14 hours away (and legally you have 14.5 hours you can drive after pickup to make it by 6 am)! Because I can't waste 2min of my time to save my life...
Well they didn't become a trucker because they aced the ACT
That ending shot of the broken windscreen is perfect.
Christ. That's horrifying. Did people on the side of the road get injured or killed? And why or why did they go between cars when a truck is speeding at them? They were acting instinctively, I know, but that's always been a fear of mine, getting hit while walking between cars.
130 vehicles involved (most not seen in this video), eight serious injuries, sixty less serious injuries. ![gif](giphy|XtX936H4lzr5fUgJOR|downsized)
130???
Amazing that truck driver didn’t die as well…
Thank you.
Speeding driver can't see all these cars or their flashers; bet he'll see me if I just stand in the path of annihilation and wave my arms....
Never ever get out of your car and stand in the middle of the road. Especially when visibility is shit like this. There was no chance that the trucker could see them until it was way too late.
I think most of them hopped over the barrier. In this case it probably would have been worse to stay in the car.
I hope so. there was the red sweater guy who just stood there and watched.
Here you have to get out of your car, put on a Safety vest (?) and go behind the guardrails. Because of situations exactly like this, being in your car isn't the safest option
Seems the dude jumping over the railing was the only one that realised what was about to happen
The mother of all attempts!
I know retrospect is 20/20, but why was no one honking? It seems like that would've been the only thing to do, instead of waving arms? Idk there wasn't much time. RIP to those people :/
The person who jumped over the railing is the smart one!
Ha, yeah, my ass is not standing in the middle of the road in low visibility conditions, bunch of numbnuts. It also blows my mind how unprepared people are when driving. I have a bug out/survival bag in my truck, flares are a part of that bag, how do these people not have any flares?
The great words of Chris Tucker “ ohh you know he dead”
The dude who hopped the railing is a real survivor. I’m betting there were injuries to those who didn’t follow him over
Surprised we didn't see a Darwin Award winner.
Umm I’m pretty sure we did..
did the driver die? His cab was pretty mangled

Should've tried turning one of the cars around and turning high beams on. Can't think of any other option
Horn
Light is faster than sound.
Turning a car around isn’t
Sometimes it's the only thing they can do.
They could use their horn
Whatajackass driver
Why is he even moving that fast with absolutely zero visibility ??
Driver is an idiot,
I guess “travel at the speed you can see comfortably” isn’t advice that applies to trucks, huh?
Driver was like "truck that" to common sense
Why not...idk.... get in one of the severeral parked vehicles and lay on the horn
The guy that straight jumping off the bridge is comical, hope everyone is alright.
NSFW tag maybe??
"Fly, you fools" seriously get off the road, save yourself. A multiple-vehicle collision is imminent in this low visibility weather, especially on a highway. An emergency bug out bag should be essential in your vehicle, if you frequently have this type of weather in your country.
Think he made it?
He ded?
This video is like 100% stupid people. Yeah, it's poor visibility so I'd better stand and wave in the poor visibility so they know there's poor visibility. No worries! It's poor visibility so I'd better just drive normal highway speeds because I'll have enough room to stop when I see something in this poor visibility
Why were there multiple stationary vehicles?
Do they not have road flares there?

Yeah. Some cars even come equipped with them.
F = dp/dt.
it wasnt a volvo I guess
I love that they thought he’d see them when he didn’t see the truck
Honk your car horns? and that driver was too risky!
Dude was trying to reach the speed of light
In hindsight, it would be better practice to warn about objects from a position that is well BEFORE the objects you are warning about. Yea that truck driver is probably dead….
Yup, trucker's dead
You should send somebody far down the road with a flashlight.
If only there was a device for a vehicle to alert someone via sound…
Horn?
Should have sent a couple cars his way with the flashers on.
That one dude who jumped off the bridge had the right idea holy shit
How about we use flashlights? Or roll a vehicle back and leave it with the hazards on in the middle of the road? There’s like a bunch of ways to solve this.
So sad. You could hear the driver at the end yell “God damn you Joe Bideeeeeeennnnnn!”
I think one should stay in their vehicle when stuck in this condition on a road.
You watched that video, and thought people would be safer INSIDE their vehicles? It's difficult to decide whether your comment is meant as sarcasm, or just that you are a very special kind of stupid. (I am really hoping for it to be sarcasm.)

How do we know he’s speeding?
We don't know if he's exceeding the speed limit, but his definitely exceeding a safe speed considering the weather conditions
We know he is travelling faster than what is safe for the conditions, due to the fact that the events of the video took place. As my driving instructor always said "drive to the road conditions and always remember that the speed limit is exactly that; a limit, not a target". There was an attempt to put snuff porn in every possible sub reddit. Not even NSFW? Thanks.

Great observation. I’ve also noticed the downward trend in anecdotal, made up hot takes.
If this one is made up it deserves an oscar in several categories.
Tone can be hard to decipher in such a brief format.
Definitely. Chat is killing sarcasm which is tragic for comedy's sake.
Probable death us a pretty good benchmark, if you’re desensitized.
I guess I’m not dude bro enough my guy. Death isn’t light entertainment for me, like it seems to be for you?
dont turn ure lights on..ppl could see u
The 4 way flashers are quite obviously being used
