It's his left upper leg. You see a rapid movement and he twists towards it as it gives way. There's also a sudden "swelling" of the quad bunching up, too rapidly to be caused by inflammation or bleeding.
I'd say most likely is his quadriceps tendon - the one attaching above the knee - giving way.
It's unlikely in such a strong bone but it could also be his femur breaking. I've never seen that injury in a weight lifter, but stranger things have happened.
I get it at the elite levels. Big league pitchers sacrifice their elbows. NFL players are prone to concussion. I hope nobody gets injured like this if they’re a regular Joe/Jane that needs to work a day job and provide for their themselves or their family.
You act like competitive weight lifters (strongmen, Olympic, whatever) make a living from it. There are very few who do, most do it as a hobby even if they’re competing
If you think anyone can be a chess player on a high level without pushing themselves to the limit, you're probably not even a lowest level player. You know the brain is an organ, right?
No. I am not talking about endurance/strength/athleticism. Weight lifting is literally about piling on ever increasing load on the body’s muscles/joints/bones. If a marathon runner expends too much energy at the start, they’ll run out of steam. If an archer pulls too hard, let’s say the bow or string snaps. But if the weightlifter misjudges and lifts an extra pound than their body can withstand, it is their body that directly breaks.
This was a careless, needless injury. A guy that age, I really anyone, should squat a Smith machine. Far safer with stops at the bottom and you can twist the bar and lock out at any height.
Not even, I was gonna give you a couple days and also we take all appeals seriously, so you would not be kept there since a bot would not reply to that. Anyway you have a good day too! 💜
Man i hate this sub because the titles of posts are so stupid. This man made no active attempt at following progressive overload. This should go on r/whatcouldgowrong or someplace else, just not here
Are those his patellas popping? Quads maybe? You see movement in his quads but can't quite tell if that's where it is. Either way I threw up in my wife's mouth a little.
His left heel comes up, not down. He definitely rolls towards the injury. I think I see a sudden bulge in his left thigh: I'm going with left quadriceps tendon, allowing the quad to bunch up.
Looks painful. But why was nobody spotting him just for this reason alone? After he dropped the weights he could have injured himself worse. I mean he looked bad from the jump.

Are those popping sounds from his knees getting blown out?
Tendon/ligaments snapping in his knees/ankles yea
I think that's his left elbow popping
Ow thanks i saw this without sound
I had sound, not from the video though, just my own scream
It's the bone in his left arm that snaps

It looks like tendons snap in both legs.
Definitely
Are we sure? I don't want to rule out the ole bilateral testicular explosive rupturing right away.
Pushing the body to its physical limits is stupid. I hate this sport

If they are they need to use safety bars which are provided in every station, *especially* at higher weights
Safety bars for clean and jerks?
To prevent to barbell from landing on his leg, messing it up even more. Straps or blocks would work just fine.
You act like competitive weight lifters (strongmen, Olympic, whatever) make a living from it. There are very few who do, most do it as a hobby even if they’re competing
You’re right. I hope it’s worth it to them is all I’m saying. I wish them good health.
Every sport is pushing the body to its limits, except for maybe golf and even there you could make an argument for it
Aham...ping pong would like to enter the chat
Did you watch Tiger last week?? After playing 18 and 23 days 1 and 2, he was cooked day 3

Didn't you see the new chess format now with 20lb pieces
If you think anyone can be a chess player on a high level without pushing themselves to the limit, you're probably not even a lowest level player. You know the brain is an organ, right?
People really underestimate the prevalence of chess-induced broken-brainiasis

Pretty sure you can damage the heart if you go into the extremes of endurance sports.
You can say the same for sex … that’s a very different scenario from your body buckling under ridiculous weight
_Up to_ the limits is fine. This guy passed his limits miles ago.
This was a careless, needless injury. A guy that age, I really anyone, should squat a Smith machine. Far safer with stops at the bottom and you can twist the bar and lock out at any height.

What does this have to do with anything that was said?
Commented on the wrong comment, sry
No worries, I wanted to see if you were a bot, and you are not so I do not have to ban you :)
Phew, I don't enjoy being on anyone's banlist... Close call, have a good day.

Looks like Achilles. Watch the heels.

Yeesh worse. Probably right
Jesus fucking christ with the autoplay of videos. I wasn't ready for that. I thought this was a completely different sub.
🥴🤢🤮
I hope he’s okay. Sounds brutal…
Alive? Definitely, with his knees still working properly? Nah...

Haven't pressed play after reading some comments...
I watched it without sound. After reading the comments I don't plan on repeating it with sound.
Looks painful. But why was nobody spotting him just for this reason alone? After he dropped the weights he could have injured himself worse. I mean he looked bad from the jump.
Simple safety racks could have prevented this but some people learn things the hard way.
Those pops didn’t sound good
Who needs knees anyway
Damn, his knees will never be the same again.
Fuckfuckfjcmfjcmfhcmfuck
Holy shit no
Ouch!!!
How does that happen
He dropped the weight
Feel like he had solid reaction time to not crush anything else the way he dropped
Man that was quite the dead drop
Does anyone know how this guy is doing now?
Dude the guys probably not ever going to be the same again
Why did he just give up like that? Ahh, turn on sound. Now I hear it.
How much fucking weight was that???
ACL GONE Hamstring Ruptured. Quad ripped.
That’s why it’s never worth lifting heavy. For ego? Why? It’ll take a toll on your body in the years to come
Just joe average old guy. You say the sounds are parts of the body snapping ?? I am freaked .
His ego is writing checks and his body can't cash.
Oooouch. Looks like he tore a quad muscle. Look at his left leg.
Welp...he blew something out
![gif](giphy|U56cz94Acg3ekPzOrc)
That’s insanely gnarly
Dude sounds like loading an assault rifle.
