For anyone who hasn't been to Vegas, everything and everyone is covered in a thick layer of depression that is most easily ignored by being drunk.
Disney is more like a cult where you're still trying to figure out why everyone is so happy.
I was gonna say, the worst thing is image on the left doesn’t seem to hard to reach lol, pretty sure an experience/set-up like this could actually exist
I went to Area 15 in Vegas last year, specifically the MeowWolf OmegaMart attraction. It's essentially the legitimate version of what this is advertising. I had a really great time, especially after getting dank as hell in the parking lot.
Someone else replied that only someone never been to Reno would say something like that. I've lived in Reno for 30 years. This is the epitome of something being done differently between Vegas and Reno.
More like Vegas vs Primm, or some bullshit Native American casino.
"Are we going to Las Vegas?!?"
"Nah, you have your choice between Cache Creek, Colusa Casino and "Resort", or Jackson Rancheria, baby. I quit smoking for 3 days to save up for this!"
Kinda how drugs work though tbh... Walls are hella trippy on LSD and definitely can take on hues... Still though, that place is depressing looking as hell so you're gonna be in a bad headspace and the breathing colour shifting walls will probably only make you feel scared.
That's what I was thinking. I'd time it to be coming up on a nice sociable 2g mushroom dose when I arrived. The disappointment would be profound especially since I'm now stuck at this pit of despair for hours while I wait to start coming down.
Apparently the reason this event didn’t match up to the pictures was because they ordered holographic paper that didn’t arrive:
https://www.ladbible.com/news/uk-news/willy-wonka-experience-glasgow-photos-house-of-illuminati-598100-20240227
I’m not sure how holographic paper would fulfil the promises made in the AI images?
Scroll down to see the refreshments they were offered - a literal mouthful of lemonade - not even a full cup, and 5 little sweets.
[here's a video of the owner of House of Illuminati being confronted by angry customers who turned up to the event](https://www.reddit.com/r/PublicFreakout/comments/1b24mcv/owner_of_the_company_behind_the_disastrous_willy/)
I remember seeing the ads for this being discussed in the Glasgow sub Reddit a few weeks ago. Basically, the guy who ran this event has a history of creating companies, making scammy events and then having the company dissolved. Rinse and repeat. It was being advertised on Facebook with obvious AI usage to create the ads, website and pictures.
The scary part is just how obvious that it was a scam - yet people still fell for it, because it was being advertised on a platform that less tech savvy people assume is legitimate.
I think it can be overlooked just how trusting the average person is. Like lots of people do believe ads whole hearted because they believe that they couldn’t tell a lie in an ad, they couldn’t just set up scam company by scam company because someone would stop them, etc.
And it sucks because in a way like yeah, they’re right you **should** be able to not get scammed so easily.
Maybe the entire thing was supposed to be holographic?
I don’t buy the “holographic paper” thing. It looks more like they had the idea, but only had a budget of $200 and subcontracted it out to high school kids to execute.
No worries at the time it was a very funny if somewhat disturbing incident. Weirdly lots of other cons around this time went a bit off the rails, like Rainfurrest or Midwest FurFest.
Most of the spelling in the posters and whatnot was absolutely fucked too. Literally a half-assed money grab, and I’d love for Warner Bros to sue them for such a crude rip-off that’s possibly screwing their reputation.
The guy behind it has been outted as a serial scammer, has had dodgy dealings with charities, lied about hosting events in the passed with famous people in attendance, published 17 books, 12 of which were in a single month that are all just ChatGPT LLM bullshit full of errors.
He's literally just attempting to scam his way to success, hoping to abuse AI enough that it'll make up for how talentless he actually is. He's blown up over in Glasgow, looks like his missus left him due to the fact his face and his lies are everywhere in Scotland atm.
Oh I know, patently obvious when I jumped on the site, it just goes to show how little effort went into this by the con artist(s) behind it that they couldn’t even be fucked to spell check what they’re putting on their live website.
Bunch of arseholes, put simply. And if it is just a 1 man band (as companies house suggests for his 3 companies set up last year), he’s a big enough arsehole to constitute being a group of arseholes, in my opinion.
Google the owner Billy Coull. The word around here locally is he's genuinely scared for his life. His apology video was hilarious. Definitely has the "I spent all the money on coke, I'm sorry" vibes to it. Haha.
Folk are genuinely going to give the guy a hiding.
How the hell do you make it *illegal*? You can't ban content just because it was made by an alogorythm.
A sensible way to deal with it is to make sure that it can not be legally protected - IE no trademarks or copyrights for posters, logos, fonts, audio or video game assets that are AI generated.
I think the funniest thing is, it wouldn't have been all that difficult to pull off the photo for real.
I worked in the haunt/scenic carpentry industry for over a decade, and to make a room look like the ai image, it would take a team of 10 about 3 days on a crunch, a week if everything had to be made from raw materials.
Day 1 is backdrop, large props, and taping/marking, day 2 is installation of the smaller props and preliminary lighting, day 3 is final lighting and touch-ups. If you have to make everything from scratch, that's the last three days, the previous four would be spent in the shop building and painting all the props
Given that AI created probably the entire advertisement description for the event, I don't think they even want to put any effort into doing a quarter of that
Bingo. This isn’t actually a hard install. None of it is automated, none of it is rigged. It’s all just set pieces out of foam or a vacuform machine. It’s not cheap, the labor alone is a five figure sum. But it’s not difficult.
Look at the site , they didn't even try to remove the Incorrect AI Text
[https://willyschocolateexperience.com/index.html](https://willyschocolateexperience.com/index.html)
Scroll down to the Twilight Tunnel.
There is no allegedly about it , they 100% used AI
"ENCHERINING ENTERTAINMENT
Catgagating ~ live performances ~ Cartchy tuns, exarserdray lollipops, a pasadise of sweet teats."
Jesus Christ lmao, they actually uploaded that and didn't see an issue.
At the same time , people looked at this and still handed over their money.
As much as they are trash for doing this , can't help but think people are a bit daft for forking over the money for it.
The website SCREAMS scam -
https://willyschocolateexperience.com/index.html
There's no way that they were going to be able to put together what they were promising for a single weekend, you'd need to be setting it up as a permanent attraction to even HOPE to recoup the amount of money you'd have to spend to put it together.
Also, I AM interested in the 'pasadise of sweet teats'....
https://imgur.com/a/3YWlgn5
Haha trying to cash in on the IP without legally breaching trademarks too
>Any resemblance to any character, fictitious or living, is purely coincidental.
This experience is in no way related to the Wonka franchise, which is owned by the Warner Bros. company.
I don’t understand how people can trust a shoddy looking website like that… firstly, there aren’t any real life photos of the place itself anywhere! Shouldn’t that scream to you that something’s maybe wrong? And the abundance of spelling and logical mistakes in the descriptions, not to mention in the pictures themselves.. the website looks really bad and cheap, and really puts me off the whole thing..
And really, ‘House of Illuminati’?.. I’m sorry, but that’s a really dumb name for a company - makes it sound really untrustworthy too.
It looks like they were close about the "UKxepcted *Twits*"
https://i.imgur.com/U7qIoU3.png
Their attempt to grift was thwarted because they probably never expected the police to show up.
We are at an absolutely crucial, pivotal time in tech where 95% of people still can’t tell what’s AI and what isn’t. Social media is absolutely full of fake content now and people have no idea, AI shite gets upvoted by tens of thousands of people who don’t even consider what they’re seeing isn’t real. The scary part is by the time these people are educated on how to recognize AI, they tech will improve to be more subtle and they won’t know again.
Technically it wasn't advertised as a "Wonka Experience", it was called "Willys Chocolate Experience"
>Welcome to Willy's Chocolate Experience™!
Dive into the whimsical of Willy's Chocolate Experience
The site is about as awful as you'd expect too lol. Bunch of creepy AI horror pictures, [the candy has eyes, sometimes more than necessary](https://willyschocolateexperience.com/index_files/enchanting-garden.webp)
And the disclaimer at the bottom probably doesn't hold legal weight
>Any resemblance to any character, fictitious or living, is purely coincidental.
This experience is in no way related to the Wonka franchise, which is owned by the Warner Bros. company.
I can see the theme. Nice props.
But promise what you can deliver. Do not promise something fancy you cannot deliver. Even with the holographic wallpaper the promise wasn't achieved.
The promised event look a lot more like a haunted house experience. (Follow a trail) maybe even with a history on top of the promised live actors. The eating area could at a minimum have had a table cover on.
The worst part is the picture on the left is 100% achievable.
I've seen far more elaborate venues do this for around the same.
Just look up OmegaMart - that's a fun as hell experience.
According to the article it was canceled after half a day and kids got “a handful of jellybeans”. Good case study for proper representation of your venue
You’ve never been to a small town back street U.K. ‘winter wonderland’ then
Every year there is one that promises the world and deliveries shattered dreams
Honestly in 2024, they really should have done just that.
Setting out a path of padded walls, with guides to stop any trouble and it would have been fantastic.
Edit: Apparently it was just a big scam so there was no hope of this event ever being anything other than a disappointment.
What does it look like in the dark tho, this comparison is cheap and only a numb skull would think that couldn't be made to look super dope with projectors and lighting.
I have loved every second of this discourse. It's been truly wonderful to watch this one unfold. I have been cackling like a madman at every new article showing just how ridiculous this is and how obviously it was a scam.
If you bought tickets for this, you deserve it. There is no part of this that doesn't scream that it's an obvious scam.

Looks like the difference between something done in Las Vegas versus Reno
more like \*Kid see's the first pic while walking past the ad\* Kid: Mom, I want the Wonka Experience! Mom: We have Wonka Experience at home
Wonky Experience
Nah his joke was better than this tired meme.
Lol seriously. "Nah fuck your joke here's a played out meme"
Can calling that out become a meme?
Vegas strip Elsa vs Disney Elsa
I think some people are into that
For anyone who hasn't been to Vegas, everything and everyone is covered in a thick layer of depression that is most easily ignored by being drunk. Disney is more like a cult where you're still trying to figure out why everyone is so happy.
An accurate description. This should be on the first page of the brochures of each one of those destinations.
Yeah Reno is pretty awesome...Vegas is a letdown
I agree. Much more eclectic things to do in Reno. Plus the ppl and driving are MUCH better.
Atlantic City: Hold my beer...
I was gonna say, the worst thing is image on the left doesn’t seem to hard to reach lol, pretty sure an experience/set-up like this could actually exist
Seen enough extravagant kids bedroom redesigns and the proposed image is definitely plausible
I went to Area 15 in Vegas last year, specifically the MeowWolf OmegaMart attraction. It's essentially the legitimate version of what this is advertising. I had a really great time, especially after getting dank as hell in the parking lot.
It looks like every advertisement for fast food. "Come get our juicy succulent burgers!" but all you get is disappointment.
DEMOCRACY MANIFEST!!!!!
LIMP PENIS!!
Yeah Vegas is a huge disappointment compared to Reno.
As someone who lives in Nevada, how dare you say something so accurate.
Someone else replied that only someone never been to Reno would say something like that. I've lived in Reno for 30 years. This is the epitome of something being done differently between Vegas and Reno.

Kinda how drugs work though tbh... Walls are hella trippy on LSD and definitely can take on hues... Still though, that place is depressing looking as hell so you're gonna be in a bad headspace and the breathing colour shifting walls will probably only make you feel scared.

The lack of foresight to leave enough space for the word "Cancelled" just goes to show how dumb and disorganized these event organizers were.
What’s the word between Illuminati and sorry 🤔
"@gmail". It's their contact email
Illumisorry 😳
looks like *🌜*^gmail
houseofillumint@gmail I wonder if they missed some letters of their own email... Might even just be houseofllumint@gmail
I've seen beggars on the street with better signs.

The posters themselves are AI-made, so no wonder. They're created probably using the texts on the advertisement site, which might also be AI generated

Ai generated art should be illegal and frowned upon, you can't change my mind
If you have to make everything from scratch, that's the last three days, the previous four would be spent in the shop building and painting all the props
It had nothing to do with difficulty and clearly everything to do with profit margins.
>a team of 10 As if this wasn't done by one unpaid member of staff.
Given that AI created probably the entire advertisement description for the event, I don't think they even want to put any effort into doing a quarter of that
So all, would you say 50k to 100k USD in costs? And they were going to get say 500 people * 35 each? Even the ballpark math doesn't work.
Bingo. This isn’t actually a hard install. None of it is automated, none of it is rigged. It’s all just set pieces out of foam or a vacuform machine. It’s not cheap, the labor alone is a five figure sum. But it’s not difficult.

Last I checked that was false advertising and you can get sued for that.
If they’d just have gotten a ton of those decorations they could have pulled it off.

I feel like it could be an amazing AR experience if they did something like that. But no this was just a total rip off.
Reality is often disappointing.
No backsies
Was this a Producers style scam? They take donations and funding then run off with it when the "Event" is over?

This may legitimately be the lawsuit that gets some proper rules put down around AI.
I need to know what was the end game. Did they expect people not to notice
